The Reality of Sultan al-Awliya’s

Tolerance and Acceptance Unveiled

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

17 February 2012 Beirut, Lebanon

Jumu`ah Khutbah

O Believers! Alhamdulillah, we are still in the month of Rabi`ul Awwal, which is going to finish soon, and in it Allah (swt) has tested many of His sincere servants with tests similar to those He sent on His Prophet (s), about which the Prophet (s) said, “The Prophet who suffered the most at the hands of his people is myself.”

Sayyidina Muhammad (s) was tested with everything, but Allah (swt) compensated him by raising him higher and higher. That is why, when Rabi`al-Awwal comes, and it is the Arab Spring that is coming to change different countries around the world, and also the Prophet (s) came in Rabi` al-Awwal, the first month that changes everything around the world, the month in which he was born. When he was born reality was born, power came to change from jahiliyya to knowledge and from fear to happiness, from dunya to akhirah, and to do that the Prophet (s) went into too many difficulties.

I will mention one hadith of the Prophet (s), where he said, and it shows what many people are questioning today, why Mawlana is Sultan al-Awliya and not showing his power or showing his strength? It is because he is in seclusion; from the beginning of this month he has been in a seclusion that is raising him higher and higher, as the Prophet (s) said in one of his ahadeeth:

أشدُّ الناسِ بلاءً الأنبياءُ ثم الأمثلُ فالأمثلُ

Ash-hadu ‘n-naasu bala'an al-anbiyaa’u thumma ‘l-amthalu fa ‘l-amthal.

Those who undergo the toughest hardships are the prophets, then those similar in stature, then those similar to them (in appearance). (Sunan Tirmidhi)

The people who undergo the most affliction, problems, abuse, torture, difficulties and corruption are the anbiya, prophets. Then he said, thumma, “after prophets,” al-amthal, “the one who looks like them or who inherits from them.” And Mawlana Shaykh, may Allah give him long life, is above the station of “king,” he is Sultan! You may have many kings, but the Sultan is above them all, and one of Allah's Names that we recite is “as-Sultan.” The Prophet (s) inherits that power, so he is the one commander up to Judgment Day. Only awliyaullah are called sultans, not anyone else. It is not appropriate for anyone else to use that title. So Mawlana, as Sultan al-Awliya, is inheriting from the Prophet (s) all his difficulties and problems, and from the ignorance that was around the Prophet (s).

So when people ask, “Why doesn't Mawlana do anything (to change the situation around him)?” he can change it, but he is in real inheritance from the Prophet (s), who had most afflictions, and the prophets and the awliyaullah are their inheritors. So you might have lot of problems around you but you have to be patient with what Allah will dress you of Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes. Now Mawlana Shaykh is being dressed with all that; they are giving him (dunya) medicine, but he doesn't want medicine as he is now dressed with the Power of kun fayakoon, to say, “‘Be!’ and it will be.” And Mawlana Shaykh Nazim said in last few days that he is dressed with that tajalli of kun fayakoon in order for Mahdi (s) to appear, and before that there will be a lot of tests. And as the Prophet (s) said, “The Day of Judgment will not appear until two big groups fight each other.”

لا تقوم الساعة حتى تقتتل فئتان عظيمتان تكون بينهما مقتلة عظيمة دعواهما واحدة.

Laa taqoomu as-sa`atu hatta taqtatila fi’ataani `azheematani. Yakoonu baynahuma maqtalatun `azheematan da`waahuma waahidah.

The Hour will not appear until there will be two enormous groups fighting each other in a colossal battle and their issue is one. (Sahih Bukhari)

Here, “laa taqoom as-sa`at” means the truth will not come out until two groups will fight each other, and that is one of the big signs.

I will tell you a story and it is something from the reality of awliyaullah and Sahaabah (r). It is said that Allah sent an angel to one of his awliyaullah when he was in sajdah, and the angel said, “Allah is sending me to ask you what do you want, only ask (and you will receive it).” Today people are saying, “Is Mawlana Shaykh asking, or not asking?” You don’t know if angels might be ascending and descending to give different dresses to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim in order that he may show the reality of this story.

Continuing, the angel said (from Allah), “If you ask me to forgive all people around the world in your time, I will forgive!” And that wali, who today is Sultan al-Awliya, who is in his bed, and you don’t know how many angels, not just one, but it may be infinite numbers of angels, are coming and asking him, “What do you want?” And by Allah’s Dignity and Honor, he answered, “I didn't worship Him and become His servant except through Him.” Allah (swt) is showing the greatness of that wali by him saying, “Glory to my Lord! I didn’t worship You to ask favors from You, only I am worshipping You in my sajdah and, ‘Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides,’ (3:191) and I didn’t want anything except Him, and if you were to throw me in the Fire for Eternity, for an infinite number of years, I will never ask Him to take me out, because I’m worshipping Him for His love!” as Rabi`ah al-Adawiyyah (r) said.

Then Allah (swt) addressed all His angels, although He only sent one angel to him, saying, “O My angels! Is there anyone from among you who can say what he said after I have put him in bed and given him a long and difficult life like the life of My Prophet, Sayyidina Muhammad? Is there anyone who can handle such hardship?” They said, “O Allah! We are not able to carry your punishment.” That person didn’t even ask if he would get punishment or not, he said, “Yaa Rabbee! If You throw me in Hell, I will carry,” which means, if you throw Mawlana Shaykh in Hell, he is not going to say “no” to anyone because he loves everyone! He will say “yes” to everyone, but that person or servant must know that he might be questioned regarding his servanthood and get punished.

Then Allah (swt) said to the angels, “With My Majesty, this man is correct! He is patient because I’m blessing him with My Beautiful Name, as-Saboor,” like how Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) was patient with Nimrood’s fire and Allah (swt) saved him. When Jibra`eel (a) came to Ibrahim (a) and said, “Do you need any help?” and he said, “No.” Sayyidina Ibrahim was under the torture of Nimrood, just as awliyaullah are under torture of all people around them and from the whole dunya! Therefore, they don’t seek help except from Allah. Sayyidina Nuh (a) experienced the same. Sayyidina Adam (a) experienced the same, and he was in Paradise!

Open your eyes and ears! Are we in Paradise? We are not in Paradise. All those who are asking, “Why is Mawlana Shaykh Nazim keeping quiet on everything?” we are explaining that it is a test for awliyaullah. Allah (swt) wants to see their patience, just as Allah (swt) tested Sayyidina Adam (a) to show His servants that they have to be patient. Who did Allah (swt) send to Adam (a)--me, you? No, he sent Iblees to paradises. He allowed Iblees to enter Paradise to try to trick and provoke Sayyidina Adam (a) into doing something wrong. The first time Sayyidina Adam knew, and the second time Iblees came, he entered Paradise as a snake. How many snakes are there knocking on doors of awliyaullah and they are abalisa, many Iblees’! You find them from every side trying to push their way, and while they are hidden in the faces of human beings, inside they are abalisa. They are fake, all around the world; avoid them and do not fall in their traps. Mawlana Shaykh is not falling their traps. Awliyaullah don’t fall in their trap; they are saying, “Yaa Rabbee! I am showing respect to anyone. I am not listening to Iblees.”

There are 124,000 awliya and each wali is under a different test from Iblees and his army. Mawlana Shaykh and his followers are standing firm in face of Iblees, who is coming in the shape of human beings, animal or even a dragon, and Mawlana Shaykh is staying peaceful. Why go to hospital, especially mental hospital? Why do people go there? They have problem in their minds and their brains, in their personalities; they are psycho, bi-polar, and they want treatment. They go there, and knock at the door and enter; they don’t ask questions, and abalisa come from everywhere.

So the answer is simple: everyone comes to Prophet (s) to make ziyarah and du`a from around the world; is it correct or not? It is correct. So what is happening? Wahabis are coming to you to prevent you from making du`a, saying, “This is shirk,” and the Prophet (s) is letting them do that. Can’t the Prophet (s) change their hearts? They are believing in Allah (swt), but rejecting what the Prophet (s) came with and the Prophet (s) is leaving them and is not saying anything, as in the hadith, ya-umma al-jahl, “Ignorance is widespread.”

That is why Mawlana is keeping people around him. So around him are some who are complete Shaytan, some are half-Shaytan, some are good, some are harmful; it depends. He is letting in everyone just as Prophet (s) is letting all kinds of people to be near him, because it is a mental hospital. Just as you cannot say, “Why is the Prophet (s) letting Wahabis control (so much)?" there is wisdom in it, so don’t say, “Why is Mawlana Shaykh leaving some abalisa around?” because there is hikmah there.

So what are the characters of these abalisa? The Prophet (s) said:

آية المنافق ثلاث إذا حدث كذب وإذا وعد أخلف وإذا ائتمن خان

Ayatu ’l-munaafiq thalath: idha hadatha kadhib wa idha wa`adu akhlaf wa idha utumina khaan.

The signs of a hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, and when he makes a promise he breaks it and when he is charged with a trust he deceives. (Bukhari)

When a hypocrite speaks, he tells too many lies, and petting, caressing, as if you are caressing a devil in the form of human beings. Why (do they behave that way)? For you to keep him near you. Although you know this one is a devil, you caress him, saying, “O! You are this and you are that.” When he needs to say the truth, he lies in order to have a position, as do ministers, presidents, and kings. One time, someone asked Shaykh Nazim (q), “Mawlana, can I go into politics?” and Mawlana said, “Yes you may, but you have to be a hyena, you have to lie! Do you want to lie?”

There is too much politics going around everywhere now, especially in some areas that you are all in. Whether young or old, no one wants to say the truth; instead, they want to cover the reality of Iblees in order to show himself or herself, “Look, I am nice to you, I am good to you. Keep me around you!” You say to them, “You are with a devil! Open your eyes and ears!” but they say, “No, nevermind! As long as that devil (takes me in),” as with the Wahhabis who are always around the masjid of Prophet (s). If you become friends with them, you will be inside the masjid, even in front of the grille of Prophet (s), and you can read Fatihah there, but the Prophet (s) knows your heart.

When a hypocrite speaks he lies, and when you trust him he betrays you. How many times we trusted someone or people trusted each other and then you saw them betraying each other? It happened between friends, between leaders of countries, between relatives, brothers and sisters; conspiracies happen between many people. It happens everywhere, so you have to be very careful.

This is Islam; Islam is not just making dhikr and salawaat. How are you reading Qur`an and doing dhikr while your heart is not in it? So when you trust him, he betrays you and stabs you in the back.

The Prophet (s) said:

Do you know who the muflis (bankrupt one) is? The muflis from my Ummah is one who comes on the Day of Judgment having performed prayer, fasting, and giving zakaat. However, along with all of this, he abused this person and slandered that person, ate the wealth of this person and unlawfully spilled the blood of that person. These people will take from his good deeds. If, however, his good deeds become exhausted, then their sins will be put upon him and he will be thrown into the Fire. (Muslim)

Prophet (s) asked the Sahaabah (r), “Who is the bankrupt one?” They said, “The one with no money,” and Prophet (s) said, “No, the one with no `amal.” How many people within the Naqshbandi Tariqah or in other tariqahs make a promise and break it? The Prophet (s) said, “When a mu`min promises, he keeps his word.” How many times have we been tried? How many times we are tried as Muslims and still they stab you in the back? And how many people around Sultan al-Awliy (are like that), as we said, first the anbiya and then their images, awliyaullah, are highly afflicted.

Mawlana, I am seeing you and I am feeling with you from this minbar! I love you and I am sorry to see all these things around you, and you are patient because the Prophet (s) was patient and because you are in seclusion!

So the Prophet (s) said, idha hadatha kadhib, when the munaafiq speaks he lies, when he promises he betrays you, and third, when he is given a trust he betrays it. Even in front of you he/she prays and fasts, and comes to show you he/she is so good and shows respect to everyone, but he/she is stabbing everyone in the back! And people are fed up; around the world people cannot take it anymore. So awliyaullah are in seclusion as they want to retreat; people are stabbing their followers and they are going to seclusion to avoid this. We hope this seclusion ends quickly, inshaa-Allah, and brings Mawlana Shaykh back with power and strength.

We are not saying that all of this is going to stop. This is not going to stop! Those hypocrites are coming in the dress of human beings; they are praying and fasting, but they are hyenas. Don’t expect that this is going to change, because it a test for awliyaullah. The Prophet (s) didn’t expect that abuse and torture to stop and until last moment of his life he was abused! Awliyaullah are inheritors of the Prophet (s), so don’t (only) say, “The shaykh knows.” The shaykh knows everything, but he doesn’t do anything, because awliyaulllah are like Sayyidina Ibrahim (a): when he was thrown in the fire, he didn't ask help from Sayyidina Jibreel (a), he only said, “Allah knows my condition; I go according to Allah’s will!”

Awliyaullah look at the Preserved Tablets. They see their will not to say anything, so they keep quiet. May Allah (swt) forgive us, forgive them, and forgive every wali.
