[Ihda.] Al-Fatihah. A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Madad, yaa Sayyidee.
(Inaudible.) I forgot. Angels don’t forget, they write it…how do they do that?
Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadan hatta yardaa Sayyidina Muhammad. They changed the subject because it was a good subject.
[All recite Salaat al-Fatih.]
Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadan.
There was a very pious, sincere man, in whose time no one was able to reach his maqaam. He was law-abiding in Islam. He said, “I am going to make salawaat on Prophet (s) through the Dalaa’il al-Khayraat. When I complete it one-hundred thousand times, I will go and present it to Prophet (s).”
Who can do that? [You, Sayyidee.] Forget about me. When someone dies they forget about him, so we are dead, all of us: me, you, everyone. When you are awake, when you open your eyes, like Imam al-Ghazzali said al-mayyitu lam yamoot qalbahu, mayyit is the one whose heart and organs die and nothing of them works, but his eyes can see. That is the one who is really alive, though his body is dead. Now all of us are awake. When you go to bed and close your eyes, you sleep: that’s death. There is death and life, that is what we must look for.
I was in London,... we were arranging for HRH Prince Charles to come and speak to the community. No one knows about this, but we managed to make it a live video event with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, even though it was very difficult at that time. We asked Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) to speak from Cyprus, and we are in London to speak and he began to speak, then something happened…. Islam doesn't know if someone is high or not, it depends on one's `amal, whether they do good.
So we were in Old Trafford at Manchester United, and everyone sitting very decently, after everyone who was meant to speak had spoken, I spoke to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim [by phone] that he will be broadcast and he said, "How long do I have?"
I said, “As long as you like.”
Prince Charles had three minutes and they told us (due to royal protocol) we could not take more than three minutes, so we did that. In between, Mawlana Shaykh said to me, "What is this, what are you doing? Islam is Islam, to see the `amal of the people, not to praise each other,” because all the speakers that came before were mostly praising each other. So he turned it from praising, to (our Sufi Way of) make sure you aren't listening merely to speak; rather, listen to those who are listening through their hearts. He was able to put in their hearts what he wanted from hikmah, wisdom.
Mawlana said, “This is what we have to do. I am not happy to sit here.” That’s what struck me.
I said, “No problem to go," because Prince Charles had already left.
He said, “What are these qasaa’id, wasting time with qasidas? Who asked you to do that? It is better to take a pen and write the name of Muhammad (s), that will be enough for the whole dunya.”
Mawlana said, “Hear the story of Muhammad Talmaysani, who was the head of the whole area of Talmaysan, about when he presented to the Prophet (s) his 100,000 recitations of Dalaa’il al-Khayraat, not one time, two times, but one hundred thousand. In one minute, he was able to come to the (spiritual) presence of the Prophet (s) and say to him, “I have completed for you one hundred thousand Dalaa’il al-Khayraat.”
So remembering that story, some people come today and say, “I did 100,000 salawaat,” or one million, which is good if you do it correctly. Listen carefully: instead of doing that you can get barakah of one million salawaat!
What did the Prophet (s) say to him? “I will teach you one salaat that is equal to all salawaat of dunya and Akhirah!” Now I am teaching you, because that salaat is more beneficial than many salawaat, even Dalaa’il al-Khayraat. But what is even greater is when you mention the name “Muhammad” it is more than anything else, meaning when we say, “Yaa Muhammad!” that is heavier on the Scale than all qasaa’id, because men wrote them. Saying “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadan Rasoolullah” is heavier on the Scale because it is heavenly writing. So you are wasting your time, as you cannot compete. Although salawaat is very beneficial, it must be done properly, as Muhammad Talmaysani did.
It means that if we mention the name “Muhammad” one time, Allah (swt) will open for us all of what Dalaa’il al-Khayraat carries. Anyone who mentions his name anywhere in the world will be lifted up. So mention the name of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) as it is heavier on the Scale than any other salawaat!
And if you mention the name "Allah" it is heavier on the Scale than all of what Allah likes to hear from His Holy Names. May Allah give us the barakah of salawaat and Ism al-Jalalah, “Allah.” The best dhikrullah is “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” because it is clean, only for Allah.
May Allah bless us with that and may Allah grant shifa’a for everyone, and pray that I get shifa’a.
