A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah, nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, fee hadha 'l-masjid

أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ

Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

Alhamdulillah that in Ramadan we reached Allah’s (swt) Favors, and in Ramadan for sure people become thirsty, but Allah wants them to be thirsty so on Day of Judgment they will not be thirsty. Those who fast 17-18 hours will be favored on that day not to be thirsty. So the awliyaullah all their focus is the awraad that they give their followers in order they will not be judged and that they will not be thirsty. What I mean by ‘judged’ is Sayyidina Muhammad (s) said to Sayyida `Ayesha (r):

من حوسب عذب

(Yaa `Ayesha!) Who will be judged will be punished for sure. (Bukhari)

He mentioned “dharrah,” which is the smallest particle than can exist in this Universe. They used to measure by atoms: whatever a person does of good will be measured by an atom’s weight, but “dharrah” means smallest thing known. Now they say that quarks are smaller. So whatever of the smallest weight of goodness they have done, Allah (swt) will dress them with Heavenly dresses. So on the Day of Judgement, those who have been favored by Allah because of their good deeds in dunya, will be known through these stars of goodness. Allah will guide and dress them with maghfirah on the Day of Judgment.

I mentioned a story of Sayyidina Ibraheem ad-Dousouqi, not to waste your time by leaving your awraad because awraad he said at that time is like a candle that has been put and lit in a masjid. Awraad is like that shining candle that will give light to others and to yourself. So be like a candle, shining in the midst of darkness. He gave an example about Sayyidina Ahmad al-Badawi (q). He said that one day Sayyid Ahmad al-Badawi (q), one of the five qutbs at that time, was passing by the road and saw a Jewish man and greeted him. That man had in his hands a bunch of candles and he said, “Yaa Imam.” First, look at how he addressed Sayyidina Ahmad al-Badawi (q), he did not say “O man,” because he acknowledged he is an imam, which means there was something going in his heart. We are arrogant, we cannot say that to someone.

We don’t like “yaa Imam,” so as not to raise him up, but that man was Jewish and he said, “Yaa Imam, I have these candles to give you to put in your masjid.” He gifted six candles to Imam Ahmad al-Badawi to put in the masjid for people to see each other.

Sayyidina Ahmad al-Badawi said, “You deny our religion and you don’t like our prophet although he accepted Sayyidina Musa (a) and Sayyidina `Isa (a), and still you come with six candles to give to me for the masjid?”

He was the qutb and that man was an ordinary Jewish man; at that time the Jewish, Muslims, and Christians lived together.

The Jewish man said, “We don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow, we don’t know what will happen on the Day of Judgment. I don’t know what will happen to me or my religion, perhaps I will get a benefit for that, I might be saved from a big difficulty on Judgment Day.”

When he said that, Sayyid Ahmad al-Badawi (q) accepted the candles, while before that he questioned it, but he saw there is change in his heart towards the truth, not denying or lying, so he took the six candles, put them in the masjid, lit them in every direction around the mihrab where he taught. He gave him six candles. Now there are 6,666 ayahs in the Holy Qur'an? 6,666. Allah created Heavens and Earth in six days.

وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَق السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُ عَلَى الْمَاء

“And it is He Who created the Heavens and the Earth in six days.” (Surah Hud, 11:7)

There are 114 surahs: 1+1+4=6. “Six” has a special significance. He lit the candles and placed them in the masjid, and gave his lecture until the candles were dim and it was sunrise, and then the candles finished. He left the masjid, but his heart said, “There must be some `ibrah from the act of the Jewish person.”

Allah said in the Holy Qur'an:

إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ اللَّـهَ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ

Truly you cannot guide whom you love, rather Allah guides whom He wills. (Surat al-Qasas, 28:56)

Allah wants everyone to enter Islam regardless of their religion, because:

إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللّهِ الإِسْلاَمُُ

The religion in Allah’s view is Islam (submission to His Will). (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:19)

Wa li kulli wajhi muwalihaa. Allah made a direction for everyone, a siraat, way, tariqah, madhab, a scholar and a guide:

وَلِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ

For every nation there is a guide. (Surat Ar-Ra`d,13:7)

He made guides for everyone, because He did not want anyone to say, “Allah did not bless me with a guide.” No, there is a guide: there are the Sahaabah (r), the Messengers and the Prophets to guide the Ummah, so Ahmad al-Badawi said, “There must be something in that person's heart, let me look,” and he has the power khariqa, that can move like laser and pass through everything, and he saw that person had miraculous power within his heart, which was so enlightened he just needed little bit to become Muslim. Therefore, without looking through his spiritual power, looking only through physical power, Sayyidina Ahmad al-Badawi (q) said, “This person did a favor for us, thank you.” Then suddenly he got inspiration, “Look at him with the power I gave to you,” and awliyaullah have that kind of power. He looked and saw that from the masjid the light from the candles reached all the way to Bayt al-Ma`amoor; they were lights of guidance indicating that person had to be guided to enter Islam!

Allah (swt) gave the power to Sayyidina Ahmad al-Badawi (q) to see the Jewish man had been accepted and that he must give him Shahadah due to his favor of giving those candles to the masjid so that people may see him while he gave his talk. Then he heard a voice saying to him, “Yaa Ahmad! Good tidings! I changed that Jewish person to a Muslim because of the favor he made to the masjid.”

It is said that if someone in Ramadan lit a candle, on the Judgment Day Allah will give him ten candles from Bayt al-Ma`amoor, not physical candles but He will give him ten beautiful rainbows of lights from Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes in a donation to show His favor for one candle in Ramadan, so if you lit 30 candles you will be successful you will be given hasanaat for every 30 days times 10 so that is 300 hasanaat from inside Bayt al-Maamoor that no one knows!

Today in Mecca, when they open the Ka`bah people want to jump inside to take even a stone for barakah. What then do you think when Allah (swt) will open for you to dress you with the Lights from Bayt al-Ma`amoor, the Fourth Heaven, because of the donation to the masjid? Allah will favor you above many people because you did something great for the people who are running that masjid. He said that not only is it when someone gives a donation, here it says ‘candle,’ but that is a donation. So when someone gives a candle or donation to the masjid, at the moment of death Allah will order the Angel of Death to take ten candles from Bayt al-Ma`amoor and put them in his grave and he will benefit in Akhirah that his heart is shining with those Heavenly Lights, and not only that, Allah (swt) gives him Lights for his grave, which becomes a portion of Paradise, as the Prophet (s) said:

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّمَا القَبْرُ رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الجَنَّةِ أَوْ حُفْرَةٌ مِنْ حُفَرِ النَّارِ

In the grave is either a garden from the Gardens of Paradise or it is a ditch from the pits of Hellfire. (Sunan at-Tirmidhi)

So a donation to a masjid is like that, and haddith wa laa haraj, speak without end about the rewards given to those who give to the masjid. That Jewish person became Muslim because of the light of Imam Ahmad al-Badawi (q) heart was reflected on his heart. So I say here that some good comes from these interfaith programs they do here in the masaajid and in other countries. For those six candles that Jewish man was brought to Islam. You don’t know how many will come to Islam through interfaith by Muslims showing hospitality to non-Muslims. It will be a great benefit to all different parties, because we must pray to Allah to guide everyone. The Prophet (s) wants His Ummah to enter Paradise. For sure, these people are from Ummat an-Nabi (s): either from Ummat al-Ijaaba, those who responded to the Prophet (s) and accepted, or from Ummat ad-Da`wah, those who were called to Islam but did not accept yet. For sure the Prophet (s) wants them to turn to Islam at any moment.

These people donate grants to masaajid and give here and there like that Jewish man gave the six candles and Allah granted him Heavenly Light. If you lit a candle in Ramadan there will be a great reward for Ummat an-Nabi (s) and what is that?

Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) asked the Prophet (s) to tell us about the rewards of fasting Ramadan, if they were awake in Ramadan according to the adab of that month, with no backbiting and no cheating and no lying and all these bad manners you do in life, to take it away if they follow the adaab of Ramadan the principles, love and protocol and consideration and keeping that Ramadan yarmud adh-dhunoob, waives the sins away, He will make from every word that emerges from his mouth, ja`ala min kulli kalimat kharajat min famihi laylat al-mi`raaj bahran muwakkalan `alayhaa malaaikat laa y`alamu `addadahum illa Huwa fa idhaa jaa ramadan `alaa ummatee araa tilka al-malaaikati tahmil dhunooba ummatee wa yakoonuhaa fee [unclear] kamaa yahmil al-janaza ila maqaabir fi ‘d-dunya yaa abaa bakr.

He said, “The one who holds Ramadan with all its principles, etiquette and adab on the night that Allah when He invited me to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa on that night Allah made every word I spoke an ocean of knowledge.” Allah created a paradise especially for the words of the Prophet (s) in his heart and the words spoken without letters and without sound; the Prophet (s) was understanding with letters without sound and words with sound: without sound Allah was revealing to the heart of the Prophet (s) without writing and the Prophet (s) was understanding what Allah is sending to him.

He (s) said, “From my mouth whatever word came without letters or sound Allah created an ocean of knowledge and put on that ocean angels without numbers and when Ramadan comes I see the sins of my Ummah being carried by these angels and they throw them in that ocean and it will erase their sins completely.” It opens to their hearts from each word that he (s) spoke there and we don’t know how many words he said, from which Allah (swt) gave to the Prophet (s) oceans of knowledge that are controlled by angels and no one knows their number.

He (s) said, “When Ramadan comes, I see angels take the sins of my Ummah and throw them in those oceans and they will come clean from everything on the Day of Judgement.”

It is still Ramadan, so let us avoid putting ourselves in problems from backbiting, cheating and so forth, and try as much as possible to receive from this holy month, wherein the first ten days are rahmat, the second ten days are maghfirah and the last ten days are `itqun min an-naar.

May Allah (swt) forgive us and bless us.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
