The Importance of Remembrance of Allah

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

7 November 2014 Elizabeth, New Jersey

Jumu`ah Khutbah at MCCUC

Translated from Arabic

As-salaamu `alaykum. (Opening du`a of khutbah.)

Prophet (s) said:

Innama ‘l-`amaalu bi ’n-niyyaat.

Verily, actions are by intentions. (Bukhari and Muslim)

Verily deeds are by intention and for each person is what he intends. If anyone made Hijra, migration for Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s), then he will have what he intends and if he migrated to marry a woman or for dunya, he will have what he intended.

" إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا ، جَعَلَ لَهُ وَاعِظًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ يَأْمُرُهُ وَيَنْهَاهُ "

Idha araad-Allahu ta`ala bi-`abdin khayran ja`la lahu wa`zhan min qalbihi yaamuruhu wa yanhaahu.

If Allah (swt) wants goodness for His servant, He will make for him a guide in his heart.

(Abu Na`eem al-Ispahani in Hilyat al-Awliya fom Ahmad bin Hanbal)

That means if Allah (swt) wants good for you, He will send you a shaykh to guide you to the Path to Paradise.

The thing I fear most for my nation is a hypocrite who is eloquent in speech but is ignorant in his heart.

And Prophet (s) used to seek refuge from a hypocrite who speaks elequently and is a scholar, but his knowledge is in his mind only, not in his heart, and his heart is ignorant. Prophet (s) feared for his Ummah for that reason.

Prophet (s) said:

Two eyes will never be touched by the Fire: an eye that sheds tears out of fear of Allah and a vigilant eye that stayed awake on guard (in struggle) for the sake of Allah. (al-Haakim, Ahmad, an-Nisaa’ee)

If anyone cried even one tear for Allah (swt) he will not enter the Hellfire and anyone who stayed awake in the Way of Allah will not enter the Hellfire!

Prophet (s) said:

Spread (or say) the salaam, give food, and pray at night while people are asleep, then you will enter Paradise peacefully. (Tirmidhi)

It means first send salaam to Prophet (a) and the Messengers and Prophets (a), and if you see someone on the street give him salaam, then he continued, “and feed people.” So give salaam and invite someone to eat with you at home. And he continued, “and pray at night, when people don’t see you and you cannot be a hypocrite.”

And Prophet (s) said the fire will not touch an eye that is crying for Allah's Sake, either during the day or at night, so let us make our eyes always tearful from love of Allah (swt) and love of His Prophet (s).

(Du`a.)
