Sayyidina `Umar (r) Made a Long Distance Call

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

17 February 2024 Los Angeles, California USA

From Mawlana Shaykh Nazim's Personal Notes

A`oodhu billahi ‘s Sami` al-Aleem min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Sit as comfortably as you want to be. If you want to lay down, lay down. Be comfortable. Don’t be uptight. Don’t be tied up. Just relax. If you want to spread your legs, spread your legs. It’s fine. What’s important is what we say enters the heart. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) will allow us to understand from kalaamu ‘l-Awliya.

Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, yaa Qutb az-Zamaan, whoever that might be. Did As-haabu ‘l-Kahf have a name? In the Holy Qur’an the names of the seven As-haabu ‘l-Kahf were not mentioned, but they were Awliyaullah. Allah (swt) loved each one of them. Each one of them represented miracles of Allah (swt) being performed on them. If you have not read the chapter called, The Cave, please do so. Allah (swt) did not mention their names because names are not important. You don’t have to know a person by name. If you say, “Yaa Qutb,” he sees you. It’s not important that you know him or don’t know him by name. It’s not important if you know him by face or not. As long as you have his love in your heart, it’s enough for you. The Qutb can be anywhere. We don’t know.

Connect yourself to the Qutb or the Saint of the Time. After Rasoolullah (s), and khalifah fi ‘l-baatin, the external or outward khalifah or the inward khalifah was Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r). After that, baatin and zhaahir separated, but each one was Waliyullah. Sayyidina `Umar (r) was from among the big Awliyaullah. He showed his power. How did he show his power?

He was making khutbah on Jumu`ah day. He saw the Muslim army from 1,000 kilometers away. How? Have you ever heard of, “Yaa Sariya, al-jabal!” Why don’t the ones who deny Awliyaullah look at that Hadith? Every Hadith they don’t like, they say it is da`eef or it has no origin or isnad. How about Sayyidna `Umar (r)? How did he see the mu`mins 1,000 kilometers away, with which eyes? Why don’t people think about that? They come against Awliyaullah who are able to see from distances. Why don’t you look into that?

I checked their website a few months ago to see if they believe in this Hadith or not. They cannot deny it. The other day three Egyptians came. They said, Ikhtilaaf, “difference of opinion.” I said, “Why don’t you go read and inshaa-Allah Allah (swt) will open to you the meanings, the `ilm? Why don’t you read that Hadith that Waliyullah can see what you cannot see? Waliyullah takes care of the mu`mins when you are not able to take care of the mu`mins.”

He said, “Yaa Sariya!” Sariya (r) was the commander of that unit. He said, “Watch out, behind the mountain! That enemy is going to jump on you. Once you reach that mountain, be careful.” He did not only see them, his voice reached them! They said that they heard the voice of Sayyidina `Umar (r) from Madinah and I think they were somewhere in Jordan. His eyes reached them, his voice reached their ears. How? They deny the power of a human being supernatural. A human being can reach supernatural levels, not only with jinn. They ask, “Oh spiritual being, devil.” The jinns that come to human beings are mostly evil jinns. Good jinns don’t do that. The evil spirits come to human beings and say, “There’s this. There’s that.” Because jinn can go around and see what’s happening. They come to the man or woman who is doing that sihr and tell them.

Awliyaullah also have supernatural powers. Sayyidina `Umar’s (r) voice can reach a distance of 1,000 kilometers. Not only that but they also hear the tasbeeh of other creations. It is said and all of my words are what I have understood from the kalaam of Awliyaullah. I say what I have understood from them, nothing is from my own knowledge. Astaghfirullah. I listen, I read, I see and I understand. Alhamdulillah, Allah (swt) has given a little bit of understanding so we can understand their speech, their sayings. It’s not that, mashaa-Allah, we have reached such a high level.

It is said that when Khidr (a) and Sayyidina Musa (a) were walking together a bird came and dipped its beak into the place where the two seas meet, got up, flew and shouted. Khidr (a) asked Sayyidina Musa (a), “Do you know what he’s saying?” He said, “No.” He said, “He’s saying, ‘Your knowledge, O insaan, O human beings, from beginning to end, all your knowledge is as much as I have taken out from this sea in my beak.”

Allah (swt) confirms it in the Holy Qur’an. Asta`eedubillah.

They ask thee concerning the Spirit (of inspiration). Say: "The Spirit (cometh) by command of my Lord: of knowledge it is only a little that is communicated to you, (O men!)" [Surat al-Isra, 17:85]

“You have not been given from `ilm except a little.” Allah (swt)’s Words are from Azal, Pre-Eternity, to Abad, Post-Eternity. They do not change. He doesn’t say, “I’m sorry. Maybe you had a little bit of knowledge and now you have great knowledge,” no. No matter how much knowledge you acquire, no matter how much you read, no matter how much you listen, no matter how much inspiration comes to your heart, still your `ilm is qaleel, so little. Not only so little as we just read in Ayatu’l-Kursi, wa laa yuhituna bi shay’in min `ilmihi `illa bimaa shaa’a. “They cannot encompass or take any of the `Ilm of Allah (swt) except what He wants you to take.” Don’t be fooled that, mashaa-Allah (swt), you know so much that you come and start to argue and fight. Mashaa-Allah, what did your knowledge reach? Nothing. Allah (swt) says “qaleel.” Qaleel means, “Go and read. Go and accompany the `alim.” Go and ask Allah (swt) to open to you as He told Rasoolullah (s), “Wa qul Rabbee zidni `ilma, O my Lord, increase my knowledge.”

These three Egyptians came and one of them was maybe 20 or 25, the other one maybe 18 and they wanted a fatwa. Mashaa-Allah. I said, “Go read. Go to your masjid and get a fatwa from that imam.” Don’t waste your time and don’t waste my time arguing. Arguments do not lead to anything. You will get from the Knowledge of Allah (swt) as much as that bird is getting, a small drop. What do you do with this small drop? You extinguish the fire the devil has put in your heart. The devil has made a fire for you and he’s throwing you into that fire--the fire of hasad, jealousy, the fire of envy, the fire of hatred, the fire of enmity, the fire of stinginess. All the bad characteristics that a human being carries are the doors of Jahannam.

If you take the door of jealousy, you are in Jahannam and you are putting the one you are jealous of in Jahannam as well. If you take the door of enmity, you have entered Jahannam and its fire because you burn on your own and you are burning the one across from you. Bukhul, hiqd, hasad, hirs, shahwa, ghadab--each one of them is a door of Jahannam. If you open it, you will fall into it. Close the door of ghadab, anger, shahwa, desires, and close the door of these others, because you do not want to enter into that fire. Shaytan has set up a fire for you. He tells you, “Go hurt him. Come on, get more. Show more.” He’s showing you the doors of Jahannam.

What do you do with the drop of water or knowledge you have taken? I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) that when Nimrood set up the fire for Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) and he was going to throw him in the fire, a Waliyullah saw a small ant running with its mouth closed. That Waliyullah gave salam to that ant. The ant did not answer but continued. When he returned, he gave salam back and said, “Yaa Waliyullah! Yaa `abdAllah, O servant of my Lord! Forgive me. I had something in my mouth and I could not give you the salam back.” He asked, “What did you have in your mouth?” It said, “A drop of water.” “What were you doing with that drop of water?” “I was running to the fire of Nimrood, that tyrant, that big devil that is the agent of the great devil, Iblees.” What was it running there to do? To extinguish the fire that Iblees and his agents set up.

O human being, with the drop of knowledge that you take, work on yourself. Allah (swt) always said the ones who have believed, aamanoo wa `amiloo saaliha. Amanoo, belief, wa `amiloo saaliha, they acted with good things according to their belief.

You have to take that knowledge and apply it to yourself first, O insaan. What happens when you do that? You become like Sayyidina `Umar (r). If you continue, as he followed Rasoolullah (s), your eyes will reach what Sayyidina `Umar’s have reached. He was given permission, “Say that. Let them know that you are different from them.”

They think that, mashaa-Allah, by reading Qur’an and Hadith they have reached the level of Sahaabah (r). What did you reach? Not only have their eyes reached what you do not see, not only do their voices reach what you don’t hear but they hear creation making tasbeeh to Allah (swt). You don’t hear anything. All you hear is your iPhone ringing and your iPhone messaging and your Whatsapp and email. “You’ve got mail.”

That’s what we used to hear in the 90’s. They don’t have that anymore. We were excited to get an email. Now we don’t want to get any more emails. Most of it is spam or junk. As long as I hear I’ve got mail, I’m great. How about the tasbeeh of Creation? Do you hear that, O insaan? No. The Sahaabah (r) heard it. What did they hear?

Rasoolullah (s) was given permission to show the deniers of karamatu ‘l-Awliya, the deniers of the miracles of Awliyaullah, the powers of Awliyaullah. He gathered his Sahaabah (r) in a circle. He grabbed stones. Have you ever heard the Hadith of the hasaat? No. Wahabis, listen. Salafis, listen. I checked the website. They say it’s da`eef. They bring down anything that shows you the greatness of Rasoolullah (s) because they are hasood, jealous. Wahabis and Salafis are jealous of Rasoolullah (s) because he is high. They want to bring him down to your level. Allah (swt) says he is bashar. He is at your level but yoohaa, he has supernatural powers. Angels speak to him. Allah (swt) speaks to him directly without angels. He is able to do that. He can split the moon. He can do whatever Allah (swt) permits him to do. What can you do? All you do is eat and drink and go.

What can we say? You have to bring them down to their level. Your level is bashar, not more. But Allah (swt) has given him (s) something different. He gathered his Sahaabah and grabbed a bunch of stones. These stones were making tasbeeh. Abu Dhar al-Ghafari (r) narrated that Hadith. He said, “When Rasoolullah (s) took these stones in his hands, we heard the stones making tasbeeh as the buzzing of the bees.”

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said in the beginning when you reach that level in spirituality, you will start to hear the tasbeeh of all creation as one big buzz of bees. When you reach higher levels then you can differentiate the tasbeeh of water, the tasbeeh of trees, the tasbeeh of flowers, the tasbeeh of sand, the tasbeeh of mountains, the tasbeeh of birds. You start to differentiate, “This tasbeeh belongs to the birds. This tasbeeh belongs to the mountains.” Didn’t Sayyidina Dawud (a) make tasbeeh with mountains and birds? Why don’t you say he is bashar, only a human being? How did he make tasbeeh? He was making Dhikrullah with mountains. That means the mountains have a different Dhikrullah than other creations. Allah (swt) said:

And We certainly gave David from Us bounty. [We said], "O mountains, repeat [Our] praises with him, and the birds [as well]." And We made pliable for him iron, (Surat An-Naml, 27:15)

Mountains and birds are making tasbeeh. That means they are two distinct forms of tasbeeh or Dhikrullah for each one of them. Each creation has a different way of Dhikrullah, glorifying their Lord.

When Rasoolullah (a) grabbed these stones, they were making Dhikrullah but because Sahaaba kiraam had not reached that level to differentiate between them, they heard the buzzing of bees. Have you ever come near a beehive? What do you do over there? You collect the honey. You have to get millions of stings. Shaytan will sting you when you want to collect honey. Honey is pure. The bees are like Awliyaullah, they make sweet nectar for you from everything they have gathered. When you want to approach and take that sweet nectar from them for your shifa (...) Allah (swt) says that honey is shifa, in it is cure. A cure from Awliyaullah is a cure for the hearts. What do you cure your heart from? Jealousy, hatred, enmity, anger, lust and all the bad characteristics of human beings.

They were listening and hearing the tasbeeh as the buzzing of bees. When Rasoolullah (s) put them down, the tasbeeh disappeared. He picked them up again and put them in the hands of Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r). The Sahaabah who were present in the circle heard the dhikr in the hand of As-Siddiq (r). He is not Nabi, he is Wali and he is Siddiq. When a human being does not reach the level of prophet, he can reach the level of wilaya. Prophecy is not open to everybody. Allah (swt) has picked His prophets, but Wali is open for everyone. That door is open. What do you get at the end? You hear Dhikrullah of every Creation in the universe.

That’s what you need to reach. You need to reach that level. How do you reach that level? By being like Sayyidina `Umar (r). What was the character of Sayyidina `Umar (r) as Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) has described? He scared Shaytan. Do you scare Shaytan or Shaytan loves to come towards you? Shaytan said, “Whichever road he takes, I take the opposite road.” Sayyidina `Umar (r) used to see Shaytan and kick him away. When you put an electric wire near a mouse, every time that wire touches the mouse, the mouse runs away. It’s an experiment. They put food and every time the mouse bites that food he gets an electric shock. He never tries it again. Every time Shaytan approached Sayyidina `Umar (r), he got a shock. He said, “Forget him. If he is coming this way, I’ll go the other way.” Are you like that?

As Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) has said, :”Your first duty is to make Shaytan run away from you. If you are going a certain way, he has to go the other way. He has to leave you.” That’s the first step. If you become like that, you will reach that level that you can see, you can speak distances away and you can hear the buzzing or the tasbeeh of stones as explained in that Hadith.

He took the stones from Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq’s (r) hand and put them in the hand of Sayyidina `Umar (r). Sahaabah heard. He put them in the hands of Sayyidina `Uthman (r) and Sahaabah heard. When he put them in the hands of others, that tasbeeh was not heard anymore. That means the others had to reach higher.

Do you believe in that or not? They put these things down. That’s why we are here. We are in Tariqah, following a Pir to do what? First, to make Shaytan scared of us. Shaytan is never scared of us. We are best buddies. He waits for you when you wake up and is with you until you sleep. What better friend do you need? Which friend stays with you until midnight? No midnight, sorry, 3 a.m. Does the pub open at 10 o’clock? Let me see if anybody says “yes.” No, they usually open at midnight. Clubs open and maybe they stay up until midnight and then go party until 3 or 4 a.m. Shaytan is with you when you put your head on that pillow. When you put your head on that pillow, he tells you, “Don’t say anything. Don’t say, ‘Yaa Rabee, I have done wrong today. Forgive me.’ Don’t say, ‘Yaa Rabbee, by Your Name I am giving myself to you.’” Because when you sleep, it’s as if you died because you have no movement anymore. When you wake up, it’s like coming back on Yawm al-Qiyamah, you are waking up from sleep.

The first step is to make Shaytan scared of you. The second step is to follow the way of Awliyaullah. What is the way? It’s very simple. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) used to get many new converts. They asked, “What do we do?” He said Wahabis, Salafis and all the others load all the obligations of Islam onto a new convert. That new convert says, “I cannot carry it,” and they go away. He said, “I use one Hadith. I use one direction from Rasoolullah (s). Say, ‘Amantubillah, I believe in the Lord of Heavens,’ then be good.” Istaqimah means “be straight.” Don’t be crooked anymore. Slowly correct yourself. Slowly start to be honest, be truthful, be good, until you have reached that istiqamah, straightforwardness.

That straightforwardness will lead you to your heart. What’s in your heart? Shaytan will be your servant at that time. How is Shaytan your servant? When you are in the way of tariqah, you will hear Shaytan telling you, “Let’s do this because we can get this.” Basically he’s a flashlight for you for the bad characteristics that are in your heart. Listen to what he says. What he is saying is the flashlight that shows what lurks deep inside your dark heart. “I had this in my heart?” Because right away you wanted to do what he said.

You start cleaning your heart from all of these points that Shaytan can enter, all these idols that Shaytan can enter through, from all these statues that you have in your heart from hubbu ‘d-dunya, the love of this world and its pleasures, from following your desires. You start sorting them out one by one and getting rid of them.

Awliyaullah have said that Allah (swt) told Sayyidina Dawud (a), “Make Me a home.” Sayyidina Dawud (a) said, “Yaa Rabbee! You are not Somebody Who is in a home or in need of a home. What do you mean?” He said, “Make your heart My home.” What is that? That means if somebody else comes through, what happens? Police are coming. The alarm goes off. The woman starts telling him, “Get out of here.” The man starts telling him, “We are calling the cops.” You have an intruder. If you are the owner of the house and somebody else enters that house, your alarm tips off. You have an intruder. You lock and arm your doors so no intruder enters your heart. When Allah (swt) is telling Sayyidina Dawud (a), He is telling all of us, “Clean your hearts from anything other than Him. Make your heart My Home and secure it.” Secure it from who? Shaytan.

That’s what we need to do. We are in this Way to make our hearts a Divine Home, to make our hearts locked and secure from the entrance of evil and the devil and its agents. Are we accomplishing that? Allah (swt) knows the hearts. We cannot tell. We are not supposed to say. We are supposed to always cover up and conceal the faults of others. That is the duty of a mu`min. When you conceal the faults of others, Allah (swt) will conceal your faults on the Day of Judgment when it matters. Work on yourself. Look into your heart. Who is in your heart? Some people have dunya in their hearts, some people have Jannah, some people have Allah (swt).

It is said creation was created on three levels when they were in non-existence, three levels of spirits that would enter the bodies of human beings. The first group of spirits are ghafileen, the heedless ones. The second group is al-`aqileen, the ones who have used their minds. The third group is al-`ashiqeen, the ones who want Allah (swt). The first group, the heedless ones, are ahlu ‘d-dunya. They are the people that love this world and its pleasures. Ghafil means heedless.

The second group are the spirits that entered the bodies to worship because by worship they reach Jannah. They are in love with Jannah and what it has to offer. The third group, `ashiqeen, are the spirits that only want Allah (swt). They do not want dunya or Akhirah. They want to see the Jamal of Dhul Jalal, the Majestic One. The first spirit was the spirit of Rasoolullah (s). He was the top `ashiq, the top habeeb. He was not interested in dunya or Akhirah. He was interested in seeing the Beauty of his Lord and he got his wish. His wish is continuing. The Beauty of the Lord is unlimited. Allah (swt)’s Beauty has no limit to say, “That’s it, no more?” No, Allah (swt) says wa ladayna mazeed, “We have more for you to experience. We have more for you to taste. We have more for you to enjoy.”

A Waliyullah sent Sayyidina Abu Yazid al-Bistami (q) a message saying, “I have drank from the cup of love and I am drunk.” Sayyidina Abu Yazid al-Bistami (q) said, “Here is the one drinking from the Ocean of Love that does not end and his thirst does not end.” Not the cup of love, the Ocean of Love. These are the ones who are drinking from mahabatullah and it’s not finished, it continues. The top one is Habeebullah (s). His spirit is the first from `ashiqeen. Following him were Anbiyaullah, following them were Awliyaullah, following them were common Muslims and mu`mins. And then you have the spirits of the ones who want Jannah. They will get Jannah if they do their salah, sawm, zakat, as promised.

Then there are the ones who wanted to come to this world to enjoy the pleasures of this world. You see the Bugattis outside, you see the Maseratis outside, you see the Porsches and Ferraris outside. They’re enjoying themselves. You see the Rolexes, the jewelry, and the rocks. They’re going to change their eyes into diamonds. They shine. They’re going to come up with something, don’t worry.

There was a crash on the highway so we went through Belair. Mashaa-Allah, I didn’t know it existed. The ones who want dunya, they find it. The ones who don’t want dunya can see it and Allah (swt) is watching your heart. Is your heart moving? Is your heart stable? What is your direction? What was the direction of Rasoolullah (s) in the past month, Shahru ‘l-Rajab? He was not only seeing Belair. He was seeing Jannah and whatever was in it. He was seeing `Arsh and whatever was on it from zina. He was seeing Sidra and and whatever was on it from zeena, decorations, covering Sidra.

إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ

Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable! [Surah an-Najm, 53:16]

That huge tree that Allah (swt) has created at the end of Creation, in every moment 70,000 different zeena comes on top of it. And in another moment, another 70,000. That’s what I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q). Each one is different. What did he do? Did his heart change? Did his eyes move? You see ice cream and your eyes move. Where’s the cake? Where’s the beef today? Where’s the burgers? Did you look at the kitchen when you came in? What are they serving today? Was it worth it coming here or not? Is there kabab? Yeah, there is kabab, don’t worry. I heard they got kabab. Alhamdulillah. If your eyes are for that, enjoy. Do your `ibaadah and Allah (swt) has promised you will eat until you’re full. In Jannah they will feed you. In Jannah they will give you all the drinks you want. In Jannah they will give you all the company you want. You can have all of that. It’s for you but it’s still a creation. You have not reached the Creator.

Rasoolullah (s) said, “Yaa Rabbee! I don’t want any of this.” His eyes did not waver. He did not transcend. That means he did not change his want. So many mureeds start on this road with wanting Allah (swt) but then when they start reaching levels, they change. They start wanting dunya. Did his destination change? Did his intention change? Did his target change? Allah (swt) was testing Rasoolullah (s) not by this Bugatti and Maserati and Ferrari. He was testing him by Jannah and what it has and by others that He has created and by the inhabitants of Jannah that everybody is looking, “When I die, I get 70 Paradises with 7,000 hooris.” The ladies are the same, “I get 70,000 Jannah and 70,000 of the inhabitants of Jannah.” That’s what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for that, you will get that. Allah (swt) promised. Your pleasures will be fulfilled.

But Him, He is not a pleasure. He is not a Creation. He is different and you will never understand what He is because you have to know Him by Him. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. You can only know Allah (swt) by His Holy Names. His Holy Names reflect His Attributes. His Attributes point to Him. You enter the Ocean of Lights of His Names first. That’s, “Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.” By that you can understand your Lord, not by your imagination, not by your taste and experience of pleasures. You won’t understand God by that. Allah (swt) is something you don’t understand, don’t comprehend, unless He starts opening to you from what He wants you to experience.

Rasoolullah (s) was the top `ashiq. Follow him. Move towards your Lord. The first sign that you are on the right path is that you will hear the tasbeeh of Creation. Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) was on the right path. Sayyidina `Umar (r) was on the right path. Sayyidina `Uthman (r) was on the right path. Sayyidina `Ali (r) was on the right path. The other Sahaabah (r) were working on it because they had not heard the praising of rocks. Everything praises Allah (swt). If you have the spiritual ears, you will hear it.

That’s what we need to work on, O Wahabis, O Salafis. That starts with Dhikrullah. You make Dhikrullah until you are with Madhkur. Hattaa yasil adh-dhaakir ila ’l-Madhkur. Dhaakir is the one who is making Dhikrullah. Madhkur is the One being mentioned.

“Siri!” “Yes, master. What do you want?” Who’s that? You called Siri. Does Siri respond when you talk to her or you call to something else? Alexa. “Alexa?” “Yes.” Don’t they talk to you? If you mention them more, they reply more, until Siri becomes your better half. That’s what they want human beings to be. Do they call it humanism, when you’re half machine, half human? Transhuman, half machine and technology, your better half, because we are dumb.

They say human beings are not intelligent. They have artificial intelligence. Their boundaries are unlimited. They can graph you on any graph they want. They can make a thousand copies of you. They can make you all over the world with fake clips. You will be more famous than real YouTube. They will make you speak in a thousand languages and everybody will think that you know a thousand languages because they can translate your speech into so many different languages. They can make Obama speak in Russian. People will be surprised. Then they will make George W. Bush speak in Chinese. They will make you speak in any language. Transhumanism. When you mention Alexa, you are with Alexa. “What do you want?”

Dhaakir is with Madhkoor. The One you mention will be with you. Dhikrullah will take you to the One you are mentioning. He is with you are but you are not with Him. You are your own veil to see Allah (swt). When you get rid of that veil which is yourself then the other world opens to you. That’s what happens when people die. What happens when people die? They see the other world. Why? Because they are out of themselves. They have lost themselves. They are not with themselves anymore. They have left it. When you spiritually leave yourself, you will be with the One you mention.

Dhikrullah will take you to a state that you are absent from yourself. You don’t know yourself anymore. You don’t remember yourself anymore. You don’t remember where you were born. You cannot remember your credentials anymore. They were doing an interview with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and asking him, “Tell us your life story. Where were you born? Where did you study? What diploma did you get? Which masjid did you start with? Which shaykh did you start with?” He said, “I don’t even remember what I ate last week. You’re asking me something that happened years ago.” Look at his humbleness. He’s telling you indirectly that he does not remember himself. It’s not important.

Nowadays they ask the shuyookh who see themselves as big ones. It’s a tricky question. If you are an intelligent one, you will understand that this shaykh is not a shaykh because he boasts about himself. He remembers himself. He makes himself high. He talks about himself. I don’t want to hear your story. Tell me about Allah (swt). Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is saying, “I don’t know. All I know is that I was a Muslim to Allah (swt), now I’m a Muslim and I will try to be a Muslim until the end of my life. Nothing else.” He was not remembering himself. He was remembering that he is on the way of Sahaaba ikram, the way of Rasoolullah (s). That’s what he remembers, “I was on the way, I am on the way, I want to stay on the way. I will be on the way, inshaa-Allah.”

That’s what he said. The ones who understand can right away decipher the true one that has become absent of himself, present by his Lord and the one who is present by himself, absent by his Lord. Understand, O insaan, how you can decipher these characteristics and traits. Don’t be a dumb one. Be a smart one. Be smarter than Siri.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. Our way is that way, Dhikrullah until you are absent from yourself, only immersed in the Ocean of Allah (swt) as a fish in the water, as they have said. How does the fish survive in the water? It takes what it needs from the water and continues to live. Isn’t that how it is? If you put the fish outside, it dies in thin air. It needs the water. Water is basically haya, life, as Allah (swt) has said, “I have made from water everything alive.” Water is Eternal Life. For you to continue swimming in the Ocean of Allah (swt), you need life from Him. If you take that water in, you take what you need to survive and the rest you take out from the sides as the fish do. That’s how you continue in that ocean. If you go out into thin air without Allah (swt) by yourself, you won’t survive. That means you won’t continue in that continuous journey.

Rasoolullah (s) is continuing. You continue with him, O insaan. Be from `ashiqeen. `Ashiqeen want Allah (swt). They are not worshiping Allah (swt) for Jannah. They are not worshiping Him because they are afraid of Naar, Fire. No, they are worshiping Him because they are in love with Him. They’re drinking and their thirst is not getting any better, it’s getting more.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. May Allah (swt) keep us on the straight path, the path of Sahaaba ikraam, the path of Sayyidina `Umar (r), Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r). Open to us, yaa Rabbee, these spiritual senses that we can see by You, yaa Rabbee, we can hear by You, we can speak and reach by You, yaa Rabbee and we can walk by You, we can use our arms by You. Yaa Rabbee, be by you. Yaa Hayyu, yaa Qayyum. Hayatu ‘l-abadiyya qayyumiya. That is the maqam you want to reach, when you reach the maqam of Eternal Life and the maqam of Eternal being by Allah (swt)’s Holy Names, Al-Hayyu Al-Qayyum. It is said that this is `Ismu ‘l-Azhaam. `Ismu ‘l-Azhaam is in Allahu laa ilahi illa huwa al-Hayyu al-Qayyum. If you repeat that, you are repeating `Ismu ‘l-Azhaam.

May Allah (swt) make us from them that take the blessings and the lights of these Holy Names. By that we can know our worth. May Allah (swt) forgive us. Please forgive me if I have said anything wrong. I want to say one more story and then we’ll stop, inshaa-Allah (swt).

Sayyidina Ibrahim ibn Adham (r) was a great saint. At that time they had slaves, so he bought a slave. They used to take a slave to help him. When he bought the slave he asked, “What do you eat?” What did the slave say? “Whatever you feed me, master.” “What do you work? “Whatever you use me in, master.” “What do you want?” “Whatever you want, master. Is there a will that I have besides the will of my master.”

Ibrahim ibn Adham talked to himself. He said, “O Ibrahim, O miskeen, O poor one, you were not for your Lord one hour as this slave or servant is for you. You have to be for Allah (swt) as the slave is telling his master, “I eat what you give me. I do what you employ me in. Besides your will, I have no will.” Ibrahim ibn Adham was giving the story that that’s how you have to be with Allah (swt). “Yaa Rabbee, I eat whatever you feed me. I do whatever you ask me to do. I have no will besides Your Will.” That is the ultimate Islam, the ultimate tasleemiyya, submission to Allah (swt). If you can reach that level, you are for your master. Your master will take care of you. What does the master give the slave? He tells the slave, “This is all my property. Do what I tell you in all of it.”

Allah (swt) will tell you, “These creations are Mine but you are mutasarrif. You have been given the authority to operate in it according to My Will. You can operate in universes. That’s what you reached. Qutb Mutassarif, Qutb of the Time operates according to the Lawh al-Mahfouz, the Will of Allah , not only one Earth, in Heavens and in all Creation of Allah (swt) because he is the true servant of his master. His master has entrusted him, “I trust you in my property. You do as I want in all of it. All of it is under your control, under your command.” If you can reach that level that you say, “Yaa Rabbee, I eat what you feed me. I’m happy. Thank You.” Don’t complain, “I don’t have caviar. I don’t have filet-o-fish every night. I only have rice, rice, rice. Every day, rice. Morning, rice, evening.” Don’t say that. That is your rizq coming to you.

Say, “Yaa Rabbee, I eat what you feed me. I work whatever you employ me in. My will is nothing beside Your Will. Your Will is ongoing, O my Lord.” Allah (swt) will give you the power to operate all universes, then you can speak by Him, representing Him, “By the Name of my Lord I’m speaking. By the Name of my Lord, I’m doing. By the Name of my Lord, I’m seeing,” as Sayyidina `Umar (r) was. He was doing all of that by Allah (swt), not from himself. Understand our way and its value but try to enter it correctly with `uboodiya, servanthood, and you will be pulled through. If you enter it incorrectly as a master, not a servant, then you will be pushed back to the claws of Shaytan. You will move your heart in the way he wants. Be careful, O insaan.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. May Allah (swt) keep us on the path of Awliyaullah. The names are not important. You don’t have to call anybody by their name. Ashabu ‘l-Kahf were all Awliyaullah and Allah (swt) loved all of them. You don’t need to know the names of Awliyaullah, you just have to say rijaalAllah, O the men of Allah (swt) or the saints of Allah (swt) or the true servants of Allah (swt). They will reach you. If your heart is open, you will feel their light touching you. If your heart is not open, call them. When you call Alexa, Alexa says “yes.” If you call Waliyullah as Sayyidina Abdal Qadir al-Jilani (q) has said, “If you are in the middle of the ocean, if you are in the middle of the desert, if you are in the middle of the mountains and you say, ‘Yaa Hadrat al-Ghous,’ if you call him, he will say, ‘I am here next to you.’”

As you tell Siri, “Get me out of this 405 traffic jam,” don’t you tell Google that? Alternate route. If you follow Google Maps correctly, when it’s time it will tell you, “I found you a better route.” If you follow Awliyaullah, they will tell you, “We have a better route for you now. Let’s switch. Let’s take you another way. You’re a good one. You’re following the directions correctly but there’s a traffic jam. Shaytan is waiting for you. We’ll take you around.”

Call their name and they will reach you. If you don’t call their name, you are by yourself. Shaytan is moving freely as he likes. Most people are ahlu ‘d-dunya. Most people are in the love of this world. You can see it. Walk among people and you will understand who are the people that want the pleasures of this life and who are the people who want the pleasures of Jannah, and who are the people that want the pleasure of Allah (swt) who are Awliyaullah. I have not seen anybody yet, including myself. I’m not one of the good ones. I’m asking for Jannah. I’m from the middle group. I’m trying to be from the middle group. Don’t say I’m from Ahlu ‘l-Allah (swt). Ahlu ‘l-Allah (swt) is Sayyidina `Umar (r). If you can speak to people from 1,000 kilometers away then you are Ahlu ‘l-Allah (swt). Not by inspiration, no, they have to hear you. You have to yell in their ears.

Walk around. Go to Belair. See who are ahlu ‘d-dunya, who are Ahlu ‘l-Jannah and who are Awliyaullah. The homeless can be Awliyaullah. Be careful. You never know. Respect everybody. Be good to everybody. Be kind to everybody. That is the way. Everybody is a creation of your Master. Your Master has created them, fashioned them, designed them. No matter how low they are or how high they are, they are all the same in your eyes. They are all `abdAllah. If they drive a broken down Hyundai or they drive a top notch Lamborghini, they’re all `abdAllah. You give them the same respect. Don’t respect the rich more than you respect the poor. Be careful with that. That’s Shaytan’s trick. Be careful. Respect everybody as the servant of my Lord, as the creation of my Lord.

May Allah (swt) forgive us.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, wa bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
