O Muslims! Listen carefully! The Light of Creation that Allah (swt) created all creation from is His Light! Our pride is because of our Prophet (s)! We believe in every Prophet, but Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is the source of all Prophets from Sayyidina Adam (a) to Sayyidina `Isa (a), and all of them will come on the Day of Judgment to ask him for intercession!
Fakhrunaa bi habeebinaa al-Mustafa, our pride is in our Beloved, the Chosen One, and in the Prophets and Saints. We don't accept the pride of other nations. "Honor is for Allah and His Prophet and for the Believers." Allah gave the honor to the Prophet (s) and to those who believe in the Prophet (s). We are not with those who boast (of their connection) to the unbelievers, we are with the Prophet (s) and the pious, sincere believers!
Imagine you are in your house and put a verse of Holy Qur'an on the wall for barakah. Is that allowed? Yes it is. And is the picture of the Green Dome of Prophet (s) also not barakah? So then is it accepted to put a picture of an unbeliever among such blessed images? Therefore, we ask some believers and Muslims this question: is it allowed to put the picture of a kafir next to a picture of the Rawdah or above a picture of your Shaykh? No, it is not allowed, and those who put such a picture before or above the Shaykh's picture are like those who put that film (on YouTube, “The Innocence of Muslims”) to harm and incite Muslims. If they want to come against the Prophet (s), will they not make something similar for Shaykhs?
To get barakah, our pride is to put beautiful calligraphy of verses of Holy Qur'an on the walls of our homes, or images of the Dome or Rawdah of the Prophet (s). We don't put a crusader in front of these pictures because that is fitna and haraam, and therefore, we cannot accept that! Muslims and mu`mins in these countries are questioning us as to why a picture of a wali is under a picture of a crusader? Do you accept as a Muslim and mu’min to have the picture of your Shaykh under the picture of a crusader?
Is it possible to imagine the original Psalms of Sayyidina Dawud (a), the Old Testament of Sayyidina Musa (a), the New Testament of Sayyidina `Isa (a) without alteration, and of course the Holy Qur'an without alteration? How will the order of these books be set? Will Holy Qur'an be above the Psalms or the Pslams above the Holy Qur'an? Will the Torah be above Holy Qur'an or Holy Qur'an above the Torah? So what about the books that have now been altered? The Zaboor, Tawraat and Injeel, are now altered unacceptably. Now there is a picture a crusader prince with a cross placed on a website banner above the picture of one of the great Hanafi scholars who is a great Shaykh. Is it allowed in Islam to put such a picture above the picture of the Shaykh?
We don't accept their explanation, “the Shaykh accepted this,” because that is lying and altering his words. No way the Shaykh will accept the picture of a crusader above the picture of the Shaykh and above the Muslims! As a Muslim, can you accept putting the picture of your father beside the picture of a crusader? How could you allow and accept the picture of a crusader above the picture of your Shaykh? There is one website that claims to be affiliated with the Shaykh, and they put a picture of a crusader above the picture of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim!
Of the four Holy Books--the Psalms, Torah, New Testament and Holy Qur'an--which do you put on top? [Holy Qur'an.] So how do they put a crusader who represents the altered Injeel above the picture of Mawlana Shaykh, who not only represents Islam and Holy Qur'an, but who is hafizh of Holy Qur'an? We will never accept that website with these pictures, and whatever excuses they want to give, even when they say the Shaykh said that, we know the Shaykh will never say that, but they are pushing the Shaykh to do that! We also know the webmasters of that website and how they infiltrated Mawlana Shaykh's house! They are making confusion among the mureeds and we are asking from here that they stop playing these games! If they like the cross (crucifix), let them say they carry the cross, but do not put Mawlana Shaykh's picture with it! They are humiliating the Shaykh, the mu’mins, Muslims, and the mureeds who all love the Holy Qur'an and the Prophet (s)!
When I arrived in Singapore last week, immediately people began asking me what is that website, and when we opened it we saw the image of a crusader posted in their banner, so we called them to request they remove it, but they don't want to take it away. We are asking Mawlana Shaykh to order them to take the picture of the crusader down, or else we are going to open more and more petitions against them! [www.bit.ly/removepicture]
Wa `ibaadu 'r-rahmaan al-ladheena yamshoona `ala al-ardi hawnan wa idhaa khaatabahumu 'l-jaahiloona qaaloo salaama.
The (true) servants of The Most Merciful are those who walk humbly on the Earth and who, when the ignorant people behave insolently towards them, say, "Peace be unto you." (Surat al-Furqaan, 25:63)
Those are ignorant ones who are trying to bring the value and honor of the Shaykh down! From their ignorance they are awakening fitna by putting the picture of a crusader above the Shaykh’s picture, when Islam doesn’t even permit putting a picture of non-believer above that of a mu’min! On the Day of Judgment, what will they say to the Prophet (s) when he asks them who put that picture of a crusader above picture of a waliullah, without the knowledge of that wali?
Very simply, if they like, I can give them a way out of it: let them buy a cross, put it on their chests and say, “We are Christian," and then we will know they are Christian. But they are making fitna and:
الفتنة نائمة لعن الله من أيقظها
Al-fitnatu naa'imatan la`anallaha man ayqadahaa .
Fitna is dormant and Allah cursed the one who awoke it. (al-Rafi`ee)
What is benefit of inserting the picture of the crusader there? There is no benefit, but there is fitna, confusion. For sure, they won't want to be under Allah's Curse! “Fitna is dormant, Allah will curse who brings it up!” We leave that here. We recited the verse, “The (true) servants of The Most Merciful are those who walk humbly on the Earth and who, when the ignorant people behave insolently towards them, say, ‘Peace be unto you.” That indicates Allah likes the servant to be moving, and if the ignorant one or many of them address him, he only replies, “Peace.” We are on what we are on, and you are on what you are on; to you is your religion and to us is our religion! To us is what pleases us: we are happy with Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s) and you are happy with fitna!
The Prophet (s) said:
انما بعثت لاتمم مكارم الاخلاق
Innamaa bu`ithtu li utammimu makaarim al-akhlaaq.
I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)
So the message of the Prophet (s) was for the ummah, and he accepted it on the condition that he would be able to perfect the manners and conduct of every servant of Allah! So don't think we Muslims can depend on ourselves to perfect our conduct, as we are always involved in forbiddens and sometimes we are mixing good and wrong. We are always among Shaytan, either at war with him and sometimes with him, thumma aamanoo thumma kafaroo, sometimes believing and doing what is right and sometimes believing what is wrong and doing it. But the Prophet (s) was sent by Allah to perfect the believers' conduct, so he will do that, and they will appear as full moons on Day of Judgment!
There is no way for us to perfect our own conduct, but the Prophet (s) was able to perfect it. Also, good conduct is one of the three levels of religion. Religion is:
1) the Five Pillars;
2) the Six Pillars of Faith, and;
3) the Station of Good Conduct (Maqaam al-Ihsaan).
So the souls of the other ummahs await the Prophet (s) to perfect their conduct, and on the Day of Judgment we will appear as moons reflecting the Light of perfect conduct that Prophet (s) will perfect for us! We ask that Allah perfect it in this life, before the Next Life!
To summarize, those who are moving on earth--going to work, to the supermarket, to dhikr--if someone ignorant speaks to them, don't answer them but only say, “Salaam `alaykum. I am fasting (and therefore not speaking).” There is no need to talk, and in this way you will avoid destructive debates. This is the explanation of the `ulama.
“Servants of The Merciful,” also means the awliyaullah, those about whom Allah (swt) said:
أَلا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاء اللّهِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
Alaa inna awliyaaullaahi laa khawfun `alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon.
Behold! Verily on the friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Surah Yunus, 10:62)
They have nor fear or grief because they are dressed with those Lights and have become the stars of perfect conduct in dunya, but in Akhirah it increases for them. So in this world they become like stars and people don't know their value and speak to them as if they are ignorant, but they respond saying “salaamah,” which here means like the verse:
يَا نَارُ كُونِي بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ
Yaa naaru koonee bardan wa salaaman `alaa Ibraaheem.
O fire! Be cool and a means of peace for Abraham. (Surat al-Anbiyaa, 21:69)
So Allah (swt) made the fire cold and safe, and with salaam He opened all kinds of Stations of Perfection to Sayyidina Ibrahim (a). So when the ignorant one asks the believer a question, he causes them to be dressed with perfect conduct, even if their intent was to harm him, because he is a wali whose purpose is to return goodness to those who harm him! So from Prophet’s mercy that is dressed on the wali from this verse, good conduct is also dressed on his mureeds.
Also, Allah (swt) said about Sayyidina Khidr (a):
فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًا مِّنْ عِبَادِنَا آتَيْنَاهُ رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِندِنَا وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا عِلْمًا
Fawajadaa `abdan min `ibaadinaa aataynahu rahmatan min `indinaa wa `allamnaahu min ladunnaa `ilma.
And they found a servant from among Our servants to whom We had given mercy from Us and had taught him a (certain) knowledge. (Surah al-Kahf, 18:65)
So rahmat is from the Prophet (s) and who is on rahmat will be able to get the knowledge of heavens! Awliyaullah have inherited that station from the Prophet (s), and from Sayyidina `Isa (a), Sayyidina Khidr (a) and Sayyidina Musa (a), and from all the Prophets. So then when anyone tries to harm them, they are dressed with Maqaam al-Irshaad, the Station of Guidance, Maqaam al-`Ilm, the Station of Knowledge, and Maqaam al-Qahr, the Station of Overpowering, which awliyaullah understand is to erase all sins and overpower them.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
