You May Know Some Things,

But Many Things You Do Not Know

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

14 December 2013 Penang, Malaysia

Suhbah at Teman Keladi Mosque

Translated from Arabic

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi ta`aalaa wa barakaatuh. Alhamdulillah. …

...whomsoever Allah guides no one can lead astray and whoever Allah sends astray cannot be guided.

Fa-yudillullaahu man yashaa’ wayahdee man yashaa’ wa huwa ‘l-`Azeezu ‘l-Hakeem.

Now Allah leaves straying those whom He pleases and guides whom He pleases, and He is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom. (Surah Ibrahim, 14:4)

Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah. [...]

Before we begin speaking, as in any action we must first renew our Islam and imaan and also praise our Prophet (s). In regard to the Prophet (s), it is not possible for any human being to know his (s) value and greatness. His value to Allah is unbelievably great and no one can understand it except his Companions (r) and the Rightly Guided Caliphs (r). As for the imaams, as well as the Successors and the Successors of the Successors [...].

Imam al-Busayri (r), who was a knower of some of the secrets, said, “Everyone is taking from the Prophet (s), either in gulps from the ocean or drips from the mist.” [...] Every creation must take from the blessings of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), because Imam al-Busayri said ‘all’, kull; he means everything is taking from the Prophet (s), nothing is outside of al-kull and all things are, therefore, in need of the Prophet (s), both in this life and the Next Life. He said, Gharfan min al-bahri aw rashfan min ad-diyami, “Either they are taking in buckets from the ocean or in handfuls from the constant rain.”

Ibn `Ajeeba (r), who was from the great scholars of the ummah, said, "Knowledge is of two types: Knowledge of Papers and Knowledge of Taste."

Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami (q) said, "O my Lord, how can I come to You?"

A voice came, saying, "Leave your self and come!"

Then Sayyidina Bayazid (q) said, "How do I leave my self?"

“Leave your will and let your will be what Allah's will is for you.”

The one who does not do that is, in fact, showing shirk al-khafee, hidden shirk, for in fact, hidden shirk is to show your will in preference to Allah's will. It is necessary to purify oneself of anger, since Allah has mentioned those who put down their anger and those who forgive others. Allah does not like us to be angry; therefore, we must never let anger control us. If we prevent anger from controlling us we will be free of our selves (egos) and we will become pure, then you will begin to hear what no one can hear and see what others cannot see, as mentioned in the hadith of the Prophet (s):

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”). (Hadith Qudsi, Bukhari)

At that point, that hadith will be realized in us. Among people today there are those who can claim, “I hear what others don't hear and I see what others don’t see.” To deny that a person can do that is to deny the words of the Prophet (s)! These people are described by the Holy Qur'an as, those will .. We cannot say that is bid`a and shirk because we don't know what that man sees; we cannot say he doesn't see what we don't see. No, he is devoted to Allah (swt) and spends his entire time in His worship. Allah is the Most Merciful of the Merciful and The Generous, so He gives to whom He pleases. How can you deny your Lord's power to make that man a wali of Allah?

[...] Is there anyone more truthful than Imam Isma`il al-Bukhari (r), author of the hadith book Sahih al-Bukhari? No. Therefore, we cannot deny his vision of the Prophet (s). This is something that also applies to common Muslims, not only to Sayyidina Imam Bukhari (r). It is possible that right here, there are people who have seen the Prophet (s) in a dream.

Salaat al-Faatih

Allahumma salli `alaa sayyidinaa Muhammadini 'l-faatihi limaa ughliq, wa 'l-khaatimi limaa sabaq, naasiri 'l-haqqi bi 'l-haqq, wa 'l-haadi ilaa siraatika 'l-mustaqeem, wa `alaa aalihi haqqa qadrihi wa miqdaarihi 'l-`azheem.

O Allah, bless our liege-lord Muhammad who opened what was closed and who sealed what had gone before; he makes the truth victorious by the truth and he is the guide to Your Straight Path, and bless his Household as it befits his immense stature and splendor. (Muhammad Talmaysani)

Muhammad Talmaysani was told in a vision by the Prophet (s) to recite that salawat and that it would be as if you recited Dalaa’il al-Khayraat 100,000 times, that reciting it only one time will be equal to 800,000 times Dalail al-Khayraat, i.e. if you lived 100 years in worship you could do that. (...) the angels and the Prophet (s) said from His Lord:

أَنَا جَلِيْسُ مَنْ ذَكَرَنِي

Anaa jaleesu man dhakaranee.

I sit with him who remembers Me. (Ahmad, Bayhaqi)

“I am present with those who are remembering Me,” meaning, “I am with them, supporting them,” and that hadith begins: “Allah has angels roaming the streets seeking out the sittings of remembrance of Allah and when they find these Circles of Dhikr they sit with them and make dhikr with them.”

And there is another hadith about circles of dhikr:

"إِذَا مَرَرْتُمْ بِرِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ فَارْتَعُوا ‏"‏قَالَ وَمَا رِيَاضُ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ ‏"‏ حِلَقُ الذِّكْرِ

Idhaa marartum bi-riyaadi’l-jannati fa arta`oo. Qaaloo wa riyaadu’l-jannati? Qaala hilqu ’dh-dhikr.

Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet (s) said, “When you pass by the gardens of Paradise, avail yourselves of them." The Companions asked, "What are the gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The circles of dhikr. There are roaming angels of Allah who go about looking for the circles of dhikr, and when they find them they surround them closely." (Tirmidhi)

Any gathering like this one is a piece of Paradise and will be taking place up to Judgment Day. Who could want anything better than that His Lord is with him? Your Lord is with you as long as you are remembering Him.

Fadhkuroonee adhkurkum, w ’ashkuroo lee wa laa takfuroon.

Remember Me, I will remember you. Give thanks to Me and do not be ungrateful towards Me.

(Surat al-Baqarah, 2:152)

Alladheena yadhkuroonullaha qiyaamaan wa qu`oodaan wa `alaa junoobihim wa yattafakkaroona fee khalqi ’s-samawaati wa ’l-ard, rabbanaa maa khalaqta hadhaa baatilan subhaanaka fa qinaa `adhaba 'n-naar.

Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the Creation of the Heavens and the Earth, (saying),"Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire." (Surat Aali `Imraan, 3:191)

It is essential to ponder on Allah's Creation until you become aware of His Greatness, then that Greatness will be dressed on you and you will be able to see what others cannot see. You cannot be described in this dunya, and the tongue melts under the descriptions of such stations, which are mentioned in Holy Qur'an that “after dhikr they contemplate.” When Jibril (a) came with Surat Maryam and recited, “Kaf,” the Prophet (s) said, “`Alimtu, I know it.” And Jibril (a) recited, “Haa,” and the Prophet (s) said, “`Alimtu,” and he recited, “Yaa,” and the Prophet (s) said, “`Alimtu,” and he recited, “`Ayn,” and the Prophet (s) said, “`Alimtu,” and he recited, “Saad,” and the Prophet (s) said, “`Alimtu.” And we can understand the meaning of letters and numbers here. “Kaf, Haa, Yaa, `Ayn, Saad,” and Prophet (s) said, “I knew,” for each one.

O Mawlana! We don't pretend we are scholars.

Wa fawqa kulli dhi `ilmin `aleem.

Above every knower is a (higher) knower. (Surah Yusuf, 12:76)

“Above every knower there is a higher knower." We want only to be at the threshold of the Prophet (s), that is what we seek, that is what we ask, that is what we want!

O our Lord! You know us and our hearts. Make our Prophet with us in every moment! That is what we seek and that is what the brothers and sisters and young people seek. And who love the Prophet (s) will be under his shafa`a! That is what we want, to have the love to the Prophet (s)! Everyone will be with the one they love, so we want to be with the Prophet (s) and we ask Allah to forgive us and to renew our iman and that we raise our hands and altogether we recite:

Ash-hadu laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh.

Ash-hadu laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh.

Ash-hadu laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh.

Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Inna alladheena yuba`yoonaka innamaa yuba`yoon Allah.
