You Have to See The Maker Behind Everyone

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

Thank you for coming. Thank you for honoring us by your presence. May Allah (swt) grant you all your wishes. May Allah (swt) make you with Awliyaullah here and Hereafter. May Allah (swt) bless your families and your children and keep them at the door of Awliyaullah as well. If you have found a door of Waliyullah, take your children to that door. If you have found the door of a good `alim, take your children to that `alim. Let them know about the Hereafter. Our life is not only this world, our real life is the Hereafter. Nobody stays here. What goes with you is your `amalun salih, good deeds. What else? Your child.

Your child stays behind and prays for you. Isn’t that true? Waladun salih. So, our good `amal goes with us to the other side and waladun salih remains behind, praying for us. Alhamdulillah, Sidi Nazem prays for his father. I pray for my father. You pray for your forefathers. Everybody prays for their parents who have passed on to the other life. That is the biggest prize, the biggest ni`mah that any of us who remain in this dunya can have. Your `amal does not stop. Isn’t that what Rasoolullah (s) said? Your `amal does not stop.

After your child comes your grandchild. After your grandchild comes your great grandchild until Yawmu ‘l-Qiyamah. When they say, “Yaa Rabbee. Forgive my grandfathers and grandmothers,” does Allah (swt) specify? Does He say, “Be more precise. Which grandfather?” When you say, “Yaa Rabbee. Forgive all my forefathers, all my ancestors,” and not only that, “Yaa Rabbee, forgive whoever is related to me from my mom’s side and my dad’s side.” When you have in-laws with your relatives or your relatives, immediate family and extended family, “Yaa Rabbee, forgive everybody who has some kind of connection to me from my mom’s side and my dad’s side all the way up to Adam (a) and Eve (a).” Does Allah (swt) say, “I don’t know what you mean”?

Everybody who has relation to you, all these generations, Allah (swt) will forgive them by you saying once, “Yaa Rabbee. Forgive my ancestors.” We were taught in the Holy Qur’an, asta`eedhu billah.

Rabbana ‘ghfir lee. O our Lord. Forgive me. Wa li-walidayya, “And my parents,” wa li ‘l-mu`mineen, not only my ancestors or my kinship but all mu`mins. Do you pray that Allah (swt) forgives the mu`mins? If you don’t then your iman is deficient, naqis. Your iman will be perfect when you want for your brother what you want for yourself. Why don’t you want forgiveness for them? What do they say now? “Let them rot in Hell.” There are some Muslims who curse other Muslims. This is `alamatu ‘s-sa’ah, signs of the Hour. They curse the ones who preceded them. It’s happening.

Rather, a good Muslim, a good mu`min will say, “Whoever believed in You...” What is a mu`min? Belief, people of faith. It can be the nations that came before us. Not only are you asking forgiveness for Ummatu Muhammad (s), you are also asking forgiveness for all other nations. Wa li ‘l-mu`mineen. Allah (swt) said the people who are with Hud (a) are mu`mins.

Wa lammā jā’a amrunā najjaynā Hūdan wa-lladhīna āmanū ma‘ahu biraḥmatin minnā

So when Our decree issued, We saved Hud and those who believed with him, by (special) Grace from Ourselves: We saved them from a severe penalty. (Surah Hud, 11:58)

When Our Order came, when the time came, We saved Hud (a) and the ones who were with him, mu`mins. wa-lladhīna āmanū ma‘a, the ones who believed with him.

When you say, “Yaa Rabbee. Forgive my walidayy,” it means all of them, my forefathers, my grandfathers and grandmothers and the mu`mins from all the nations. That is the greatness of being the disciple, the follower of Rasoolullah (s). You have become Rahmatan li ‘l-`Alameen. Your du`a is a rahmah to all.

Which Muslim does that nowadays? A few. Most Muslims are not asking for their fellow Muslims, rather they are cursing those who preceded them, saying they are all on the wrong way. That’s what my brother was trying to say about the two books. Some sects say all Awliyaullah are on the wrong way and not only that, all the other nations are on the wrong way, “Let them rot in Hell.” Where is the mercy in the heart? It doesn’t exist anymore. Mā nadara fa‑huwa ka‑annahū madhhūb. We keep saying the same thing. What is rare is as if it’s extinct.

Yes, some people ask forgiveness for all mankind but some don’t. When we follow Awliyaullah and we see how they were Rahmatan li ‘l-`Alameen, a mercy to all, we try to follow that way. We don’t pick and choose who is our friend or who is our enemy. If you go back to the origin, Adam (a) and Hawa (a), we are all brothers and sisters. You have to love all of them, from any race, any country, any land, any color. We are all one big family and our father is Adam, peace be upon him and our mother is Eve, peace be upon her. We are all brothers and sisters.

You have to like for all what you like for yourself. What do you like for yourself? You like Jannah for yourself and the rest go to Jahannam? What kind of iman is that? You have to think out of the box as they say. Get out of these four corners or four walls. Break through these four walls. Ask that you become rahmah.

“Yaa Rabbee. Allow me to become rahmah, a mercy.”

“Why do you want to become a mercy, O My servant?”

“Because I want to be Your khalifah.”

Isn’t that what Allah (swt) said? I am making on earth a khalifah.” Who is the khalifah of Allah (swt) on earth, the bird, the animals, the rivers? Who is the khalifah? The angels are not the khalifah of Allah (swt) on earth. It is you. Allah (swt) said, Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. Why don’t you become an appearance for that Rahmah that Allah (swt) has bestowed on this world? Say, “Yaa Rabbee. I want to be like that too.” Where do you get that Rahmah?

Fa bimā raḥmatin min Allāhi linta lahum

It is part of the Mercy of Allah that you deal gently with them Were you severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about you: so pass over (their faults), and ask for (Allah's) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when you have taken a decision put your trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him). (Surat al-`Imran, 3:159)

In the Holy Qur’an, Allah (swt) says to Rasoolullah (s), “It is Rahmah from Me that you were soft with them.” Does that Rahmah come from Amazon, Walmart or Target? Where do you buy that Rahmah? I give it to you or you give it to me? It is Rahmah that has come from Allah (swt). When you ask, “Yaa Rabbee, give me that Rahmah,” it has to come from that Divine Presence. With that Rahmah, you become soft-hearted. You don’t pretend to be a soft-hearted one and behind walls you curse everybody you met today. It doesn’t work that way.

Wa law kunta fadhan ghalīẓal‑qalbi lanfaddū min ḥawlik. If you are harsh, if your heart is solid as a rock, rough, tough, nobody will be next to you. Everybody will run away! A Muslim is supposed to be like his Messenger, his Rasool, his Prophet. He has to have that Rahmah that nobody who comes next to him runs away from him or her. Where are we from that way? That’s why we come to Awliyaullah, to know how to fetch that Rahmah from Allah (swt). “Yaa Rabbee. What is the way to You? How can we become an appearance of that Mercy from Your Divine Presence?”

There are ways. One prophet of Allah (swt) passed by people who were making dhikrullah. He asked them, “What pushed you to make dhikrullah? Why are you gathered making dhikrullah?” They said, “We are afraid that Allah (swt) will punish us.”

He said, “You’ve done right. Continue.”

He moved along and found another set of people who were making dhikrullah. He asked them the same question, “Why are you assembled? What made you come together to make dhikrullah?”

They said, “We are asking for Allah (swt)’s rewards, thawab.”

He said, “You are on the right away. Continue.”

He came across a third group who were making dhikr and he asked them the same question, “Why are you here? What are you asking your Lord?”

They said, “We are not making dhikrullah because we are afraid of His punishment. We are not making dhikrullah because we are seeking and requesting His reward. We are making dhikrullah just to show the humility of servanthood and the Greatness of Lordship, nothing else. We are not asking for any Jannah. We are not afraid of any Jahannam. We just want to show our Lord our humbleness and servanthood to Him and we want to show our Lord that He is Greater than anything in our hearts or in our minds--the Majesty of Lordship. And to make our hearts honored by Ma`rifatullah and we are trying to make our tongues honored by mentioning His Holy Name.”

He said, “You are mutahaqqiqoon, those who will find that real Reality.”

What is that Reality? The first group were afraid of punishment so they perfected their exteriors: prayer, fasting, all of that stuff. The second group wanted Allah (swt)’s thawab so after they perfected their exteriors, they perfected their interiors because they want Jamal, they want Jannah, they want thawab. The third group perfected themselves to be ready to accept Allah (swt)’s Noor.

That is the secret of why you are a deputy of Allah (swt) on earth. Why is a human being a representative of Allah (swt) on earth? Because he has that potential to receive the Noor of Allah (swt)’s Divine Presence! Allah (swt) mentioned it in the Holy Qur’an. Asta`eedhubillah.

Can he who was dead, to whom We gave life, and a light whereby he can walk amongst men, be like him who is in the depths of darkness, from which he can never come out? Thus to those without faith their own deeds seem pleasing. (Surat al-An`am, 6:122)

Awa man kaana mayyitan. The one who was dead--all of us. We’re going to die and our hearts are dead. Fa ahyayna, “We gave him life from Us.” Wa ja’alna lahu Nooran, “We have made for him Noor.” That is what we are trying to find. We are trying to seek that Noor from Allah (swt), to receive that Noor from Him so that we can walk among people with that Light and that Life. That is the acceptance of Allah (swt)’s Noor into your heart.

What happens when His Noor comes into your heart? When the Noor comes what goes away? Darkness goes away. The darkness of you leaves and the Noor of Allah (swt) enters. You are not there anymore. You are not you anymore. What is there is Allah (swt)’s Noor that he has made for you.

The one who makes dhikr for Allah (swt), not seeking Jannah, not afraid of Jahannam, rather wanting to receive that Noor to become khalifatullah, deputy of Allah (swt), what happens to them? That Noor of Sifaatu ‘Llah enters their hearts. They receive the Noor of Hayyu ‘l-Qayyum. They receive the Noor of Life, they are alive, they are existing, they are wanting, they are `alim, they are qadir. They know. That is tasarruf. When he is able, he can become mutasarrif. Allah (swt)’s Noor will enter the hearts of the mu`mins and he doesn’t see anything else anymore. No darkness is in his heart. He doesn’t see himself or others, he sees Allah (swt)’s Noor moving, creating, taking care. That is the Rubbubiyya, Lordship that we are all trying to find out.

May Allah (swt) allow us to reach that level. How do you reach that level? You follow Awliyaullah because they reached. They became eternally alive. That is Maqamu ‘l-Qayyumiya, the Maqam of Ever-Existing, as I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (q). These are the Qutb, the Aqtab. They are Ever-Alive with the Noor of Allah (swt), with the life that Allah (swt) has granted them, with the power that Allah (swt) has granted them.

We are trying to reach that.

Don’t mix with the others who are into dunya, rather mix with those who are into Akhirah. Find the people who are making dhikrullah. There are steps. First you have to be afraid. I don’t want to have any problems in the Afterlife. That is the first step of iman.

Innā arsalnā Nūḥan ilā qawmihī an andhir qawmaka min qabli an yaʾtiyahum ʿadhābun alīm.

We sent Noah to his People (with the Command): "Warn your People before there comes to them a grievous Penalty." (Surah Nuh, 71:1)

Give the warning. Warning disciplines the self and then you give them the glad tidings and then it becomes sweet. When you leave both, you receive the Noor of Allah (swt). They have received the Noor of Allah (swt). That’s the Noor that they want to spread to all. Try to be on their way. May Allah (swt) forgive us. What else do we say? Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah.

Learn to love others. Learn to be soft to others. So when you receive that Noor, you receive that Rahmah. You are able to receive that Rahmah of Allah (swt) that He has created the world with. He created everything with His Rahmah. That is why it is, Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Two sets of Rahmah: Rahmah Dhaatiyya wa Rahmah Sifaatiyya. Allah (swt) knows best but if you want to become Rahmah to others, you have to reach that Noor of Allah (swt) first and then you can truly be a Waliyullah like the others were. They were a Rahmah to all.

Let’s learn to be kind to others, learn to be soft to others, learn to tolerate others because that’s the proper way to reach the Love of Allah (swt). When I see you, I don’t see you, I see your Creator. Who is your Designer? Who gave you the image? Who is Al-Musawwir? The One who gives soorah. Who gave the soorah of Rasoolullah (s)? Who was the Designer, the Creator? Who created him in that image? Al-Musawwir. Allah (swt)’s Holy Name, the One Who gives images, the One Who creates. Who created you? You represent whom? You represent your Maker.

Mashaa-Allah, everybody is running after, “Made in USA.” All I see is, “Made in Bangladesh. Made in Vietnam.” I never see anything made here. But if it’s made in the USA, it’s important. Who made you? YOu have to see the Maker of everyone. When you walk, you are walking with whom? Who is with you wherever you go?

Wa Huwa ma`akum ayna makuntum. He is with you wherever you are.

He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and is moreover firmly established on the Throne (of Authority). He knows what enters within the earth and what comes forth out of it, what comes down from heaven and what mounts up to it. And He is with you wheresoever you may be. And Allah sees well all that you do. (Surat al-Hadid, 57:4)

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (q) taught us that when you look at someone, if you notice the Creator with him then you respect him. “He belongs to Him. I shouldn’t offend my Lord. He’s still His servant. Maybe he’s a bad one but Allah (swt) told me to leave him alone.” If he’s a bad one, wa `arid an jahileen, “Turn your back from the ones who don’t know. Leave them.”

Hold to forgiveness; command what is right; But turn away from the ignorant. (Surat al-A`raf, 7:199)

He didn’t say, “Go fight with the jahil.” No, he’s jahil. He doesn’t know about Allah (swt) yet but you know. Who created you? Allah (swt). Him? Allah (swt). Her? Allah (swt).

When you start seeing Allah (swt)’s Work in front of you then you respect everybody because you’re respecting the Maker. What happens if someone is showing you the Mona Lisa portrait and you break it? Will the one who owns it be happy with you? Allah (swt) has built you. You are wrecking His building. He has erected you. He has given you a form. When you target someone or are harmful to someone, you are trying to destroy that building. The owner of the building will be upset with you. He will not be happy with you. That’s what we were taught. Respect everybody because you are noticing their Creator and try to be Rahmah for everyone.

The way to be a Rahmah for everyone starts with dhikrullah. That’s why we always sit down and make dhikrullah all together, asking for Allah (swt)’s Noor to enter our hearts. Others ask for dunya and Akhirah. Leave them. It’s between them and their Lord but you have to ask for Allah (swt). Say, “Yaa Rabbee. I’m worshiping You not because I’m requesting Jannah and whatever is in Jannah or I’m afraid of Jahannam and whatever is in Jahannam. I am worshiping You because You are worthy of being worshiped.” All of these Salafis say that on the minbars. Truly mean it then. Why are you running after dunya and posts and positions?

May Allah (swt) forgive us. We worship Him because we love Him. Who teaches you that love? Awliyaullah teach you that love. May Allah (swt) allow us to be on their way correctly. Ameen. Ameen. Ameen.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
