A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.
Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
“How can I become Waliyullah? How can I become Faneebillah? How can I become Baqi`billah? How can I become Ayatullah?” Leave all of that. That’s all nonsense. What you need to do is love. Allah (swt) has said in the Holy Qur’an: Yuhibbuhum wa yuhiboonahu. He loves them and they love Him.
O you who believe! If any from among you turn back from his Faith, soon will Allah produce a people whom He will love as they will love Him,- lowly with the believers, mighty against the rejecters, fighting in the way of Allah, and never afraid of the reproaches of such as find fault. That is the grace of Allah, which He will bestow on whom He pleaseth. And Allah encompasseth all, and He knoweth all things. (Surat al-Ma’idah, 5:54)
These are His elite servants. He loves them and they love Him. That’s it. You don’t need anything else. We are not on this Way to find a position. We are not on this Way to go over others. We are not on this Way to look down on others. We are not on this Way to show ourselves as special. No, that is all nonsense. That has nothing to do with Akhirah.
Akhirah is about being with Allah (swt), being with Rasoolullah (s) and being with the good ones. Learn how to love, rather than learning how to hate. Learn how to come together, rather than learning how to separate. These associations bring people together. That’s why I say, may Allah (swt) give them a long life so they can continue that.
Be muhib. You don’t have to be an elite. You don’t have to be a muqaddam. You don’t have to be a representative. You don’t have to be a shaykh or an imam. All of those titles stay in dunya. Is there an imam in Akhirah? There is no imam. Our imam is known. You’re not going to go over Rasoolullah (s) no matter how hard you try. All of these titles in dunya stay in dunya, nothing goes to Akhirah from dunya. What is in Akhirah is love. Depending on how much you love your Lord, that’s how close you’re going to be to Him. Depending on how much you love Rasoolullah (s), that’s how close you’re going to be to him. There is nothing else.
Yuhibbuhum wa yuhiboona. He loves them and they love Him. That is our Way. How do you start? By being part of this group. May Allah (swt) allow love to go around the hearts of people here because in our hearts there are other kinds of love. There are a million kinds of other loves and everybody can check their own hearts to see what they desire, what they love, what they fancy, what they dream of, what they want to be. All of this stuff is in the bottom of your heart. May Allah (swt) clear our hearts to only know Him and know the ones that loved Him.
It is said that Shaytan came to Shaykh Abu Madyan al-Ghawth (q). He was a very famous shaykh in Algeria. He was Waliyullah. One man came to him and said, “Yaa Sayyidi. What does Shaytan want from us? Why is Shaytan always after us? Why is Shaytan not leaving our side?” He was complaining to Waliyullah about Shaytan chasing him all the time. Does Shaytan chase you all the time? Even if you don’t chase him, they find you: messages, Whatsapp, emails. Whatever it is, they keep coming. You say, “O my uncle, O my brother, O my dear friend, leave me.” No, they keep coming at you. Shaytan chases every one of us from the morning to the evening and from the evening to the morning.
What did the shaykh say? He said, “Shaytan was just here complaining about you. He said, ‘O shaykh. Know that your mureeds will come and complain about me. Tell them not to touch my dunya. Allah (swt) gave me dunya. If you want part of my dunya, if you want what I own, I want to take what you own. Your life is in Akhirah. Your life is to come. Your life is in the Hereafter.’”
He was saying, “If they go after what I own here, if they go after my dunya, I will go after their Akhirah.” Isn’t that true? Whenever you go after dunya, what happens to your Akhirah? It goes away because you jump into the fire of greed, enmity, hatred, jealousy and all of these bad characteristics. When you are in dunya, hirs, hasad, huqud, shahwa, ghadab and all of that starts to attack your heart. He said, “If they want what I have, I will take what they have.” Allah (swt) promised us the Hereafter. Our Creator has promised us Jannah. If you want dunya then Shaytan is going to try to take Jannah from you.
O mu’min, don’t go too much into this dunya because the deeper you go into this dunya, the more sins you will fall into. Alhamdulillah, we did not dive too deep into this dunya. We are just swimming on top but some people have gone too deep into this dunya and what do they do to get what they want? They destroy others to get what they want. Those who have fallen into dunya, have fallen into the hands of Shaytan himself. It is said that whoever leaves dunya and its decorations will be restful and free from its tiredness and its difficulties.
Dhul Qarnayn (q), Alexander the Great was a king in Macedonia. He went all the way to India. On his conquest, he passed by a village. The people in this village were in a remote place. They only farmed the land and they were busy with obedience. Dhul Qarnayn saw the people and he said, “Send me your chief.” The chief of that village said, “I don’t need to be in the company of that king.”
Alexander the Great came to that chief and asked him one question, “How come you don’t have gold and silver in your village?”
They were not rich. How do you know if a person is rich? They have Bitcoin nowadays. What is it, kryptonite? No, cryptocurrency. I’m sorry. Crypto and bitcoin. The people of this village used to bury their dead right next to their homes. In the old times, the churches had cemeteries, the mosques had cemeteries. Why? So when you would leave the masjid or the church you could see where you were going to end up. It reminds you of death right away and you are on your best behavior. Now they don't have that.
That chief said, “There is nobody asking for dunya among us.”
“Why?”
“Because it does not fill your stomach.”
Imagine if you have ten gold bars here, can you eat them? Why are you running after it? Imagine if you have a salad here. Can you eat the salad? Yes. Whatever comes out of earth is what is beneficial to you, it’s what you need, not the gold and silver that you cannot even bite. If you want to sell it, they will ask you a hundred thousand questions. You might get in more trouble. The more money you have, the more trouble you have.
He said, nobody among us wants dunya. We bury the dead next to our homes so we can remember death. This king had two skulls next to him when he was sitting in his chair. He said, this is the skull of the king before me. He was a bad king. He was unjust to his people, crushing his people, destroying his people, ruining their lives, stealing their belongings. He was busy gathering the garbage of this world. Allah (swt) took him and he died. What remained with him were all of his bad acts.
The other skull was that of a just king. He was a compassionate one. Allah (swt) seized him as well but He put him in His Paradise and raised his levels. He grabbed the head of Alexander the Great and he said, “Which one is your head from?” Why don’t you think O big shot? Where is your head from, is it the head of the unjust one who has destroyed his people and when Allah (swt) seized him all that was left were his bad deeds or the good one that Allah (swt) put in His Jannah?
We don’t have anyone here asking for dunya because we remember death and we remember the place where we will go, either Jannah or the other way. May Allah (swt) forgive us and not send us to the other side.
Alexander the Great was very happy with the advice. He said, “Why don’t you come with me? I will give you half of my kingdom and I will make you my wazeer.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“People are your enemies because of your kingdom, your power and your wealth. People are my friends because I am content with the little I have.”
Look at that advice. If you are after dunya, you’re going to have a lot of enemies. If you’re happy with what Allah (swt) has given you, little or big, that is qanaa`. Everybody will be your friend.
Look at the big leaders, do they have friends or enemies? Why do they have enemies? Because they are after power, wealth and positions. You are after dunya. You’re going to have a lot of enemies and you will fall in the trap of Shaytan. He will take your Akhirah from you. Those who want to climb high on the ladder of power have to sacrifice their deen. They sacrifice the way to Allah (swt). They sacrifice Islam altogether. They sacrifice their own religion. They say, “We are Muslims,” and they pretend to be Muslims but when you look at their actions, it has nothing to do with Islam.
Try to be like that chief. You build friendship through contentment with what you have. You will not build friendship through jealousy. You will not build friendship through envy. You will not build friendship with your struggle to have power and wealth. Know your way, O Muslim, O mu’min. Your way is Akhirah. You are not for this dunya. You are trying to reach your level in Jannah. Leave what you don’t need. Don’t run after what you don’t need. May Allah (swt) forgive us.
I’m not going to say anymore. People might forget everything I have said but it is said that every `amal you do will ignite a spark. Do you know about flintstones? If you have a flintstone, you can ignite a spark. Every action you do, every word you speak, will ignite a spark, either a spark from the fire of Divine Love or a spark from the fire of Divine Anger. If it is an action or a word that Allah (swt) and Rasoolullah (s) like, that will ignite in your heart a fire of Muhabbatu ‘Llah that will destroy every other love you have in your heart. If you’re busy with Dhikrullah, worship, or obedience to Allah (swt), that love to Allah (swt) increases in your heart and it starts pushing away every other love.
The opposite is true also. Every time you do something that Allah (swt) does not like, that Rasoolullah (s) does not like, every action or deed or word will ignite the fire of Jahannam, Divine Anger. That fire of Jahannam destroys your akhlaqu ‘l-hamida, your good characteristics. It will destroy the moral excellence you are striving for. Every time you do a bad action, that fire in your heart will destroy your good manners.
Do you see how good mannered they are? They kick each other in the parliament. Have you ever seen people in our parliaments? Maybe not here, but did you ever see them in Majlis al-Nuwwab? Mashaa-Allah. They throw shoes.
Every bad action, every bad word ignites a fire that eats up your good manners, eats up the moral excellence that you are trying to attain. See what ignites in your heart. If it’s Muhabbatu ‘Llah then it’s going to destroy hubbu ‘d-dunya. Otherwise, the love of dunya will destroy all your good manners. Watch your actions. Watch what you say. Watch what ignites in your heart.
Astaghfirullah. I’m sorry to say but so many people out there think these are Muslims but they are truly not Muslims. They are Muslims by tongue. May Allah (swt) forgive them but they have not followed the true way and the true way is what I’m trying to explain. May Allah (swt) forgive us and keep us in Muhabbatu ‘Llah, hubb of Rasoolullah (s) and hubbu ‘l-mu’mineen, to love the good ones. If you are on that way, you will make it. If you are not on that way, may Allah (swt) guide you to that way.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
We’ll start Dhikrullah. May Allah (swt) ignite His Love in our hearts. His Love polishes every other love. Why do you need His Love? Why do you need to polish away every other love? When you polish away every other love, Allah (swt)’s Noor will enter into your heart. Affaman kaana mayyitan fa’ahyaynahu wa ja`alana lahu nooran yamshi bihi fi ‘n-nas.
Can he who was dead, to whom We gave life, and a light whereby he can walk amongst men, be like him who is in the depths of darkness, from which he can never come out? Thus to those without faith their own deeds seem pleasing. (Surat al-An’am, 6:122)
All of our hearts are dead. Allah (swt) says in the Holy Qur’an, look at the one who is dead. We gave him life and We have given him (and her) a Light. With that Light he or she is walking among people. That means the heart. It doesn’t mean that he is dead then Allah (swt) made him alive, no. It means the heart is dead. How is the heart dead? When your ego is alive, your heart is dead. When your ego is dead, your heart is alive. How do you kill your ego? By killing the desires. When you kill the desires of your ego, your heart is alive. Otherwise, the heart is dead.
Allah (swt) revives your heart that was dead and gives it life. When you polish your heart with Dhikrullah, Allah (swt) will allow that heart to take in His Noor. When Noor comes to the heart, you become the Noor of Allah (swt)’s Divine Presence. That Waliyullah becomes the Noor of His Asma wa ‘s-Sifaat. He becomes the manifestation of Allah (swt)’s Beautiful Names and Attributes. True Waliyullah, true Nabiyullah are the manifestation of Allah (swt)’s Beautiful Names and Attributes.
One Name is Al-Kareem. When Waliyulllah reach that perfection they become kareem themselves. They become raheem. They become muhsin, aliyy, hakeem. They become a manifestation of Allah (swt)’s Beautiful Names and Attributes. That’s why you polish your heart from anything other than Allah (swt), otherwise the ego is alive. If your ego is alive, your heart is dead. With Dhikrullah, with the company of good ones and following their way, all we are trying to do is to take out every love other than Allah (swt). Wa mina ‘n-naasi mayyatakhidhu min doonillahi.
Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah.: They love them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce the penalty. (Surat al-Baqarah, 2:165)
Among people there are some that take others as equal to Allah (swt). That means in your heart they are as great as Allah (swt). You love Allah (swt). Don’t you also love some other stuff? You have more that you love but I love Allah (swt) too. In your heart there are many that you love. The real believers, their love is only for Allah (swt). It is much stronger. That is what we are trying to reach. This Way is the Way of love.
[Roohama baynakum sujjada...]
That is their example in the Torah. That is in Surat al-Fath. Allah (swt) says, Muhammad Rasoolullah. “Muhammad is My Messenger.” Look at the honor. Allah (swt) Himself is saying, wa kafha billlahi shaheeda.” The first before it. Allah (swt) is enough as a Witness because we say that we witness Muhammad is Rasoolullah. Allah (swt) Himself is witnessing that “Muhammad is My Messenger and the ones with him are strong on the unbelievers.” One of the meanings of “unbelievers” is Shaytan, dunya, nafs, hawa, the ones that take you away from Allah (swt) , not only the human beings, rather other entities too.
Roohamaa‘u baynakum. They are merciful to each other. That is the sign of a real mu’min. You see them in ruku`, in sujood, asking from Allah (swt)’s Fadl, His Grace and Favors and His Pleasure. Dhalika mathaluhum fi ‘t-Tawrah. That is their example in the Torah and their example in the Bible. Allah (swt) is telling you outwardly the real mu’min is making ruku`, sujood and is merciful. That is outward.
Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah. and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. You will see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Taurat; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward. (Surat al-Fath, 48:29)
The real Jewish faith is an outward expression of perfection. Sayyidina Musa (a) came to perfect your outward appearance and outward behavior. Sayyidina `Isa (a) came to perfect your inner way, the spiritual way. Sayyidina Muhammad (s) came to perfect both. Those who did not accept `Isa (a), they have neglected their spiritual growth. They have no spiritual growth. Those who did not accept Musa (a) also neglected their physical or outward growth. They have no rules and regulations. They do as they like. “Our sins are forgiven.”
Muhammad Rasoolullah (s) perfected the outward and the inward. Their example in the Bible is like a plant that has come up and has become strong and has flowered. That is shajaratu ‘t-Tawheed. That is Laa ilaaha illa-Llah growing up in the heart.
`Isa (a) came to strengthen the faith in your heart. Musa (a) came to perfect your prostration and ruku` and your outward appearances. Rasoolullah (s) came to perfect both. Those who followed Christianity but did not follow what Musa (a) brought, they have neglected half of their religion. Those who followed Musa (a) but did not follow Isa (a) also neglected half their religion. Those who followed Rasoolullah (s), and that’s why he came at the end, have perfected all religions in your heart.
There are two ways. Inshaa-Allah we can be from that. That plant, that seed of iman is watered with obedience. When you believe in Allah (swt) and you obey His Orders, that iman will grow. That tree of iman will grow and it will flower. It will please the ones who have put that seed in your heart. Who put the seed of iman in your heart? Rasoolullah (s). Allah (swt) granted you but Rasoolullah (s) was the means. Those who have not found Rasolullah (s), have found Awliyaullah. Waliyuallah will be happy when your tree of iman is growing in your heart. Nabiyullah will be happy when the tree of iman is growing in your heart. But the kuffar will be upset and angry. Who are they? Shaytan. Wa kaana mina ‘l-kafireen.
And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith. (Surat al-Baqarah, 2:34)
Shaytan is from the kuffar. It doesn’t only mean the unbelievers, those who everybody talks about. No, the first one was Shaytan. Shaytan gets angry. When the tree of faith grows in your heart, you only make Shaytan angrier and angrier with you. That’s why he comes to you and says, “Don’t you want dunya a little bit? Leave that obedience. Leave that salah, leave that sawm. Why do you want that? Come with me.” When you go with him, your iman lessens until, God forbid, it might go away.
[Allah (swt) made lanah `alaa Shaytan.]
"And My curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgment." (Surah Saad, 38:78)
On Yawmu ‘l-Qiyamah we don’t know how Allah (swt) will manifest. He has promised and yes, His Promise is true but there are other ways. We cannot say it on camera. They will kick us out of LA. There’s shafa`ah of Rasoolullah (s). We don’t know how it’s going to work so we leave that alone. That is ghayb for us. We know what we know.
Yes, Allah (swt) promised Jahannam for those who have rejected the message or messages and He has promised Jannah for those who have accepted messages. We leave it like that. Allah (swt) knows how He is going to deal with people on the Day of Judgement. May Allah (swt) forgive us.
Make that shajaratu ‘l-iman grow in your heart. Don’t allow it to lessen, especially when you’re at work. Always run to the on-call way. I always used to run to the on-call way. They called me the “invisible resident,” nowhere to be found because I was always praying Zhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Tahajjud, Fajr, at the hospital. They never saw me. They said, “Where are you?” Invisible. I was in the room.
That iman has to grow. Don’t let it go down. May Allah (swt) forgive us. That is jihadu ‘l-akbar. May Allah (swt) forgive us. No need to spill more secrets. Astaghfirullah. Astaghfirullah. Astaghfirullah.
This is LA. There are secrets that were given by Awliyaullah about what happens on the Day of Judgement. We are not going to go too deep so that people say we are out of Islam, but it is said that on the Day of Judgment Allah (swt) will say, “I have given My verdict. These to Jannah. These to Naar.” Fair? He will say, “Yaa habeebee. I have given you the pen,” because he has the shafa`ah. “You write whomever you want to Jannah. You write whoever you want to Jahannam. You have the shafa`ah. I have given my verdict.”
That is why Rasoolullah (s) is important. He is not too important here in dunya, he’s more important in Akhirah. What do you think Rasoolullah (s) will write? We will leave it like that. We don’t have to say more or they’re going to say we have deviated. No, we are not deviants. We believe in the shafa`ah of Rasoolullah (s), shafa`atu ‘r-Rasool, Haqq. Also what Allah (swt) has promised is Haqq.
We are not big `alims or professors. We leave that to the imams but we say what we have learned from our mashaykh. Our mashaykh kept it very simple. That’s what we need to do, keep it simple. Don’t make it hard on people. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) used to say, don’t close the Door of Rahmah of Allah (swt) by restricting it. Rather, open, open, open. Make it wide. Make the Door of Mercy of the Lord of Heavens wide, from east to west. Why do you close it down? That is the Wahabi, Salafi way: everything is closed down. Why? Open Babu ‘r-Rahmah. I think it’s enough.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
I can’t say anything. She is my Lebanese country woman. She’s from Lebanon. The Lebanese women are strong.
