A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.
Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
...Divine Presence. That’s one. Your ego sets down on dunya, everything for it is the same. Your heart does not like to mention anything but Allah (swt). Whenever somebody tries to take your heart away from Dhikrullah, tell them, “Leave me alone.” Don’t we have this problem in the dergah? All of the mureeds fight with each other. What do you say? “I’m busy with Dhikrullah. I’m at dergah for Dhikrullah. Why are you taking my heart away from Dhikrullah to dhikru ‘sh-shaytan?” Don’t people fight in the dergah?
When you’re busy with Dhikrullah, what happens to your heart? “Leave me alone. I am with my Lord.” Your ego sets down on dunya. Your heart does not want to be bothered by anything other than Allah (swt). Your soul is swimming in that Love Ocean, in that Ocean of Yearning. Your Ruh is in Bahru ‘sh-Shawq wa ‘l-Mahabbah. Your heart is immersed in the remembrance of Allah (swt). Your ego has nothing to do with this dunya anymore and your Sirr, your Secret Station is busy with Shuhoodu ‘l-Haqq, it is busy witnessing Haqq, witnessing Allah (swt). That is the sign of the one whose heart has been drawn to the Divine Presence.
If somebody’s heart is busy with this dunya and the prestige and power of this dunya, his heart is busy with the Dhikr of other than Allah (swt), his soul, his Sirr is nowhere to be found in the Ocean of Love or in the witnessing of Allah (swt). That is not somebody on the way to the Divine Presence. You be the judge.
The one who is not on the way to the Divine Presence as Awliyaullah have said, al-mardood, the one who is rejected, is under the Anger of Allah (swt). How? By attaching himself or herself to this dunya and by the characters of the ego overtaking the heart. What are the characters of the ego? We mentioned seven yesterday. Hasad. That is a characteristic of the ego taking over the heart. Envy and jealousy, rancour and enmity, animosity, greed, stinginess, lust, anger and arrogance. These are seven. There are more.
Awliyaullah have counted 800 that you have to take your heart away from. Mashaa-Allah, these seven and we are not able to let go of them. How are we going to go to the 800 and let go of them? We are still at seven.
The sign of the one who is rejected is the one who has rooted himself in the prestige and fame of this world, and the power and wealth of this world and the characteristics of the ego have overtaken their heart. In their heart lies the anger, lust, jealousy, envy, enmity, animosity, greed, stinginess and especially arrogance. That is the sign of the one who is rejected. Check your heart. Be your own judge. Be the judge of yourself first. Don’t judge others, judge yourself first. Where are you from all of this? Are you maqbool, an accepted one whose heart is moving towards the Divine Presence and setting down on dunya or are you from those whose heart is entrenched in this dunya and the characteristics of the ego have taken over his heart? Check. That is your `amal that you will see on the Day of Judgement.
Wa qul `imaloo fasayara ‘l-Llahu `amalakum wa rasoolihi wa’l-mumineen..
And say: "Work (righteousness): Soon will Allah observe your work, and His Messenger, and the Believers: Soon will you be brought back to the Knower of what is hidden and what is open: then will He show you the truth of all that you did." (Surah at-Tawbah, 9:105)
Do as you like, Allah (swt) will certainly see your action. Don’t be from those who are regretful. Yaa Rabbee, I wish I had done goodness in this world. I wish I had planted goodness in this world rather than planting evil in this world.
Sayyidina Imam Suyuti (r) mentioned in his book, Ad-Durr al-manthur, the following Hadith. This is important because we have a cemetery here. Do you visit the cemetery sometimes? We do, alhamdulillah, it’s a Sunnah.
He mentioned, when a person gets out of his grave (...) how many people are there, did you count? Allah (swt) knows. I wanted to say something but we are on camera. Wahhabis wouldn’t like it so we’ll leave it alone. We’ll say it after the camera is shut off. I can tell you what I heard. There are six, seven, ten or whatever in any cemetery. When somebody gets out of his grave, he or she will find their `amal in front of them. That `amal will take on an image. The good `amal will take on a good image. The work that you did in dunya will shape itself, it will be formed into an image. If it’s a good `amal, it will be shaped into a good, excellent image. It will say, “I am your `amal.” It will be a light for you, leading you to Jannah. It will show you the way. You will find it the minute you exit your grave.
Sadaqa Rasoolullah (s) fee maa qaal aw kamaa qaal. Rasoolullah (s) said the truth. O emperors of Ethiopia, Mali, Africa, Asia, Europe, all of you will find your `amal in front of you. O you royals! The royal society of this, the royal society of that, you’re going to find your `amal in front of you when you exit your grave. The royals, non-royals, everybody.
The vice versa is true, if it was a bad `amal, it will come in the worst shape, worst image, and it will say, “I am your `amal.” It will chain you and drag you to Jahannam because it belongs there. As we said, there are seven doors of Jahannam. If you open one door, you will go through that door. This is as-salasil wa ‘l-aghlal, the chains. The bad characteristics of the go are the hooks the chain human beings. Inna ja`alna fee `anaqihim aghlala.
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ أَغْلَـٰلًا فَهِىَ إِلَى ٱلْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ
We have put yokes round their necks right up to their chins, so that their heads are forced up (and they cannot see). (Surah Yasin, 36:8)
We have made chains on their necks so they do not accept truth because of the ego’s bad characteristics. It does not accept the Heavenly Message. Your `amal will show up for you and greet you. “I am yours. Welcome. Come with me.”
“Where?”
“To Jahannam, together we go.”
“Where?”
“To Jannah, together we go.”
Plant goodness. Plant kindness. Plant tenderness. What else can you say?
Fa yaqul khayran. Rasoolullah (s) said, say good words, do good actions, otherwise don’t say anything. Jahil ones are many!
What did the Quraysh say to the people who came to see Rasoolullah (s)? They sent people to tell others, “Don’t go to his majlis. Don’t listen to him. Don’t sit with him.” Didn’t the Quraysh say that to the people who were coming to see Rasoolullah (s)? They used to put people at the street corners to tell others who were coming to see or to sit or to hear from that Holy One, from Rasoolullah (s), “Don’t go sit with him. Don’t listen to him. Never approach him.”
Why don’t you just see what they have done and compare it to what you are doing, O human being? You are becoming like the Quraysh, “Don’t go listen to him. Don’t sit in his majlis.” I’ll keep my mouth shut. There is no more to say.
Do khayr. Do good. Say good. If not, you will see it on the other side. Allah (swt) writes everything down but we all make mistakes. We all say, astaghfirullahi ‘l-`Azheem wa atoobu ilayh.
Be from those whose hearts are drawn to Allah and leave behind the dunya, prestige, fame and the bad characteristics of the ego that have entrenched our hearts. Leave that and move to Allah (swt) by heart. Dive into that ocean of love and yearning by soul and let your Secret, let that Sirr inside of you only observe Allah (swt)’s Beauty. May Allah (swt) forgive us.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
