A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta`ala al-`azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

Al-imaan, faith, is to believe in the Unseen: al-imaanu bi ‘l-ghayb huwa ahamm rukn min arkaan al-Islam, to believe without doubt, is one of the most important pillars of Islam. Allah said, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” and we say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah.” Allah said, “Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” we say “Muhammadun Rasoolullah.” Sami`na wa ata`na, if we listen and obey, what will happen? Ghufraanaka, maghfirah, rabbanaa wa ilayk al-maseer. If we really feel that we are servants of Allah (swt), we have to obey Him; you cannot claim to be a servant and not obey Him. Obedience is important!

In every `amal you have to look into whether you are acting from happiness or by force. If Allah (swt) says, “You have to pray five prayers,” then you have no choice, you have to pray the five prayers. If you don't want to pray them it’s okay, you will pray them in Hellfire, and Allah will burn you in Hellfire. Allah said, khalaqa ‘n-naar, He created Hellfire, not only for punishing but also for cleaning the servants who believed in Him but disobeyed His orders to fast, pray, pay zakaat or perform Hajj. We are responsible for every action we do and Al-imaana bi ‘l-ghayb, to believe in the Unseen is to put your stamp without asking, questioning or doubting, as Allah (swt) said:

كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ

Each one believed in Allah, His angels, His books and His messengers. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:285)

Amantu billahi wa malaa’ikatihi wa kutubihi wa rusulihi wa bi ’l-yawmi ‘l-aahkiri wa bi ‘l-qadiri khayrihi wa sharrihi min Allahi ta`ala.

I declare my belief in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Judgment, and in Destiny, both its good and evil being from Allah the Exalted. (Imaan al-Mufassal)

Amantu billah, “I believe in Allah,” finished! When you believe, you cannot do the opposite. If you believe and try to do what Allah ordered, if you had the intention but for a certain reason something happened and you did not do it, Allah will write it for you as your intention was good. Amantu billahi, “I believe in Allah” means you believe everything around you to be good, not to be bad or that you carry that badness and dirtiness, spreading it everywhere with backbiting and rumors, as Allah (swt) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِن جَاءكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَأٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَن تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ

O you who believe! If a corrupt person comes to you with something wrong, ascertain the truth unless you harm people unwittingly and afterwards become full of repentance for what you have done.

(Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:6)

O Believers! If a corrupt person comes to you with a story, check it first before spreading it and its bad smell everywhere. Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an, “Check it,” because in jaakum faasiq, only the faasiq gives false information. How are you saying “amantu billah,” and on the other hand you spread false rumors? Even if it is not false, still it is not for you to spread that rumor: you are not the one whom Allah asked to spread that rumor, there are `ulama, people who understand, awliya, prophets, there is a message, and above that is Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! You are a servant, not more, not even a servant yet as real servanthood is for Prophet (s), the Highest Servant!

Glory be to He Who transported His servant. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:1)

Allah is praising Himself to Himself, that He brought Prophet (s) to high paradises! Why did Allah take Prophet (s) to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa? There must be a reason. He took him up to His Divine Presence to know Him. Where Prophet (s) said, “amantu billah,” Allah wants to reward Prophet (s) after his seclusions in Ghaar-i-Hira and after the Prophet (s) and his community were tortured by the Quraysh, Allah wants to compensate him, so He said, “Leave them. I am taking you to the Highest Level that no one can reach because you believed in Me.” Allah wanted to show him the Reality of Tawheed.

Is Tawheed at Qaaba Qawsayni the same as in dunya? There is a big difference, no resemblance, dunya faaniya. Sayyidina Muhiyyudin ibn al-`Arabi (q) said, “Here when your mind sees something, it appears as an image, but everything in this dunya is imaginary, nothing exists here as existence is only for Allah, non-existence is for human beings.” That is why Allah, karaamatan li anbiyaaullah, forbade the Earth to eat the flesh of the anbiya, prophets, to show these are special ones. Everyone else is non-existing, but anbiyaaullah exist in dunya and Akhirah, and their `ilm is beyond dunya. That is why Allah (swt) kept their `ilm and Message to be followed, as Prophet (s) said:

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:31)

If you love `ulama follow them, they will guide you. By Prophet’s (s) disappearance from this dunya, `ilm, the Revelation stopped, but whatever `ulama learned from Hadith Prophet (s) we follow. That is why Ibn Mas`ood (r) said, “Whatever the majority of Muslims see as good, that is also good for Allah (swt), and whatever they see as bad, to Allah it is bad.”

What the Muslims consider good Allah considers good, and what they consider bad Allah considers bad. (Ahmad)

Allah will be happy when you follow anything that takes you to believe in Him and to ascend in your relationship with Prophet (s)! He will carry you to be in Ascension all your life through your hearts, as we have mentioned before, to reach ma`rifatullah.

Grandshaykh `AbdAllah (q), may Allah bless his soul, said the wisdom to say, after saying the first of the Five Pillars of Islam, which is Shahaadah: Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah, wa iqaamu ‘s-salaat. If you observe iqaamu ‘s-salaat but pray without Shahaadah, there is no benefit. First is to say, Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger.” “Grandshaykh (q) said that “I bear witness” means you are seeing something, it is not hidden. “I bear witness that Allah (swt) is the Creator.” When you say this with belief even once, Allah will dress you immediately with the tajalli of Maqaam at-Tawheed according to your capacity and level. One recitation of “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah” can move universes, because you are bearing witness.

To reach ‘ash-hadu’ is to bear witness that “I saw something.” For example, if you have an accident the judge will ask, “Are you a witness to that car accident?” You cannot say, “No, I only heard someone say there was an accident.” The judge would say, “I want a witness. Did you see the accident? No? Then I have no need for you, you are dismissed.” If if you are not able witness because you did not see, your statement is not valid.

`Ulama, awliya, anbiyaa, Ummat an-Nabi (s) and al-Umam Jami`yyan must all say, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah.” When you say it, Allah (swt) will dress you completely with the dress of Imaan, which is the principle of aamantu bi ‘l-ghayb. When you say it at the beginning of the first level, like in the famous Hadith when Jibreel (a) came to Prophet (s) and asked him about Islam, he said:

الإسلام أن تشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمدا رسول الله ، وتقيم الصلاة وتؤتي الزكاة ، وتصوم رمضان ، وتحج البيت إن استطعت إليه سبيلا

Islam is to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish the prayer, to give zakaat, to fast Ramadan, and to make the pilgrimage to the House if you are able to travel there. (Muslim)

Grandshaykh `AbdAllah (q), may Allah bless his soul, said, “You will be dressed with all this as Allah is Merciful and Generous. If you say it one time, Allah will dress you with whatever Manifestations He is dressing human beings and Earth in that moment. You will be dressed with that Shahaadah and that’s why your entire prayer is not valid if you don't recite Shahaadah in Tashahud.” After you send salutations and praises to Allah (swt), He prepares you to reach Shahaadah. You make salawaat on Prophet (s) and then on `Ibaadillah as-Saaliheen, the Sincere Servants, and then you recite, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa Rasooluh,” you moved from one level to another. Then you are able to be dressed with the tajalli of that verse, you will be able to carry it, and at the end of prayer you say, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah” and you wrap it with salawaat on Prophet (s)!

After every `amal you do, you have to immediately wrap it with salawaat on Prophet (s) before Shaytan comes and takes it away from you. That is why Awliyaullah wrap it with the Ihda at the end:

Ila sharafi ‘n-nabi salla-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam wa aalihi wa sahbihi ‘l-kiraam wa ila arwaahi ikhwaanihi min al-anbiyaa’i wa ‘l-mursaleen wa ila arwaahi ‘l-a’immati ’l-arba` wa ila arwaahi mashaykhina fi ’t-tariqati-n-Naqshbandiyyati-l-`aliyya khaassatan ila roohi imaami-t-tariqah wa ghawthi ‘l-khaliqat Khwaja Bahauddin Naqshband, Muhammad al-Uwaysi al-Bukhari, wa ila Sultanu ‘l-Awliya Shaykh Abdullah al-Fa’iz ad-Daghestani wa ila Shaykhina Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani Mu`ayyad ad-din wa saa’iri sadaatina wa ‘s-siddiqina fee jami`yy at-turooq, wa ‘l-Fatihah li ‘l-jami`, Fatihah for all the Tariqahs. To be accepted, you wrap it with the salawaat on Prophet (s).

Allah (swt) brought Prophet (s) to His Divine Presence to observe that his Ummah is saying, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah.” Allah took him to his Divine Presence and opened for him whatever He opened, only Allah knows what that is, and there He dressed Prophet (s) with the Reality of ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah. Propet (s) wants us to benefit and Allah wants us to benefit. He said, qul in kuntum tuhiboon-Allah fatabi`oonee, “If you really love Allah, follow me” in Ascension, don't run away to Shaytan. I will take you to ascend to higher levels. If you claim to love Allah then follow me: Allah will love you and when He loves you, you will find Him!”

Run (immediately) to Allah! I am a clear, open Warner from Him to you! (Surat az-Zariyat, 51:50)

Why do people run to their Lord? Because He loves them. To whom are they going to run? There is no one else to run to except Allah (swt). The Ummah and all other Nations will run to Sayyidina Muhammad (s), and Prophet and all anbiyaaullah will run to Allah (swt) with their nations, and at that moment Allah will grant Prophet (s) the power of Intercession, “Yaa Muhammad, why are you worrying? I gave you dunya and Akhirah. I judge between all My servants. Take whomever you want to go to Paradise and who you want to be punished, I will punish.” Will Prophet ask for punishment? Allah (swt) says in Holy Qur’an:

لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Now there has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves: grievous to him is your suffering; he is anxious over you, gentle and merciful to the Believers. (Surat at-Tawbah, 9:128)

He is merciful, ra’oofun, compassionate, he cares for his Ummah and for the other Nations, as well; he cares for everyone. In Arabic we say, risaala samhaa, “The message that forgives everything.” Look, if you really reach Maqaam at-Tawheed, the Station of ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah, you will inherit from Sayyidina Ibrahim (a). He was thrown in the big fire of Nimrud and Jibreel (a) came to him in a moment and said, “What can I do for you? I came to help you.” Ibrahim (a) said, “No. The One who sent you knows better what I need,” because he was witnessing, seeing: he was in Maqaam at-Tawheed being dressed with the Reality of, ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah. He knew about Islam and said:

لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَٰلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

No partner has He. With this I was commanded and I am the first of the Muslims. (Surat al-An’am, 6:163)

That’s why Imam Shafi`i said that in beginning of every prayer, both Fard and Sunnah. you have to recite what I recited just now, Awwal al-Muslimeen, “the first of Muslims,” believing in Prophet (s), knowing his grandson that is coming, believing in him. That’s why when Allah tested him Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) cried for his son Sayyidina Isma`eel (a), because he knew ahead of time that Prophet (s) is coming from Isma`eel! These are Awliya ‘l-`Azhaa’im, big Awliya: he knew that, so how could he slaughter his son, which meant to not have Prophet (s)! That’s why he was crying, not for his son as in a father-son relationship, no! He was crying because if Sayyidina Isma`eel was slaughtered, how would Prophet (s) then come do dunya? “Then We saved him by sending him a ram to slaughter.”

And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice. (Surat as-Saffat, 37:107)

He tried to put the knife on the neck of Sayyidina Isma`eel (a); that’s why he cried from within. Sayyidina Isma`eel (a) said, “Why are you crying, O my father? Allah ordered you to slaughter me, so do it, I am ready.” Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) saw Prophet (s) will come and was crying for that (potential loss). Allah saved Sayyidina Isma`eel (a) by sending ‘atiyya, a sacrifice for him, because of hi, reading Shahaadah when he was put in the fire. Allah saved him when he said, “I am rendering my matter to Allah (swt), not to you, yaa Jibreel.” So what happened? Allah (swt) ordered:

O fire! Be cool and peaceful on Ibrahim. (Surat al-Anbiyaa, 21:69)

He was in the fire and Allah said, bardan wa salaaman, “Be cool and with safety.” If He didn’t say wa salaaman, with safety, Ibrahim would have frozen from “bardan,” to be cool. He saved him because he has to carry the reality of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), to pass it to his son and from his son all the way to Sayyidina `Abdullah, the father of Prophet (s), from him to his mother. In the time of Sayyidina `Abdullah a lady was always running after him because he was handsome, he had light on his face and everywhere. Then suddenly, she stopped running after him because that light was gone. She knew that the Reality of Prophet (s) had been passed from Sayyidina `Abdullah to Sayyida Amina, `alayha ‘s-salaam wa rahmatullahi Ta’ala that night. Ahlu ‘s-Sunnah wa ‘l-Jama`ah nu’min bi dhaalik, We believe that the parents of Prophet (s) will be with him in the highest level of Paradise.

The reality of Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah, the example of Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) is that Allah dressed him with that Reality; the fire stopped and became cool and safe for him. Then Jibreel (a) went and looked at the one that depends on Allah (swt), and what he will do, like Sayyidina Ibrahim (a). One day Allah (swt) said to the angels:

Behold, your Lord said to the angels, “I will create a vicegerent on Earth." They said, “Will You place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood while we celebrate Your praises and glorify Your Holy (Name)?" He said, “Verily, I know what you know not.” (Surat al-Baqarah, 2:30)

When Allah said, “I am putting a khalifah on Earth,” the angels complained, although angels cannot complain: this is something that mufassiroon has to explain to us. Why did they complain? Awliyaullah have their meaning: Allah wants to show them, so He sent Jibreel (a) to Sayyidina Ibrahim (a), hiding himself, his reality. He saw the entire valley was full with Sayyidina Ibrahim’s flock of sheep, goats, cows, oxen, camels in that big desert. Ala maddi ‘l-basar, up to the horizon you couldn’t see the end of his flock. This is Grandshaykh’s (q) story from Hadith. Allah ordered angels to observe what is going on.

Jibreel (a) came and said, “Yaa akhee, do you live here?”

Sayyidina Ibrahim said, “Yes, I’m here.”

He said, “This is too much for you! You own all that?”

Sayyidina Ibrahim said, “I own that. You want some?”

Jibreel (a) said, “Yes, if you give me I will be happy.”

Sayyidina Ibrahim said, “Okay, I will if you say after me, ‘Subbuhun quddoos, rabbu ‘l-malaa’ikati wa ‘r-rooh. Praise Allah (swt), Allah is the Lord, Creator of angels and souls of human beings.’” [Everyone repeats after Mawlana.]

Sayyidina Jibreel said, “Subbuhun quddoos, rabbu ‘l-malaa’ikati wa ‘r-rooh.”

Say, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah,” to see the power of Shahaadah. Allah (swt) wants to dress us with that power by telling every Muslim, “You have to say it five times a day in your prayers.” You cannot pray without it; same with al-Fatihah, your prayer is not accepted if you don’t read Fatihah in your prayer. When you (pray behind the) imam, you follow the imam, that is in Abu Hanifa’s school of thought, and in Shafi`i school of thought you have to recite it. That’s why the imam keeps silent after the end of Fatihah, for people who pray behind him to complete reciting al-Fatihah.

Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) said, “Say ‘Subbuhun quddoos, rabbu ‘l-malaa’ikati wa ‘r-ruh.’ I will give you half or one third of it.“

Jibreel (a) said, “Subbuhun quddoos, rabbu ‘l-malaa’ikati wa ‘r-rooh.”

Sayyidina Ibrahim then said, “Go wherever you want to go, as far as you can reach, make a line and take whatever is on your side, whatever is on the other side I will take.”

Sayyidina Jibreel (a) with his power, with his wing, made a line and the flock moved towards him and there was a space between the two.

Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) said, “O my brother, do you want more?”

Jibreel (a) said, “Yes.”

Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) said, “Now say, ‘Subbuhun quddoos rabbuna wa rabbu ‘l-malaa’ikati wa ‘r-rooh.’”

Now it’s a higher level: the first level, rabbu ‘l-malaa’ikati wa ‘r-ruh is imaan bi ‘l-ghayb, but now it is vision, rabbuna. He knew him, to show him, “I knew you, yaa Ibrahim, ‘rabbuna, wa rabbu ‘l-malaa’ikati wa ‘r-rooh,’ our Lord, both of us here, and the Lord of angels and all the Creation.”

Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) said, “Okay, everything for you.”

He said, “Yaa Ibrahim, I am Jibreel.”

Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) said, “Jibreel or not, I don’t know. I took my share and you took yours. I took my share for Allah (swt) to be happy with me, that is what I want, so I surrender everything to Allah (swt) and I don’t put my ego in it to decide what or what not to do. What comes from Allah you follow. Allah threw me in the fire and He saved me. I didn’t want you to save me, I wanted Him to save me, although I know you can save me, that Allah sent you, but I prefer that Allah (swt) saves me by Himself.”

When we have a problem, we recite Shahaadah 100 times, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah.” That will clear any difficulties, like many salawaat and verses of Holy Qur’an. Shahaadah is very strong because it is the first level in Islam, which later leads you to al-imaanu bi ‘l-ghayb.

Jibreel (a) asked Prophet (s), “Wa ma ‘l-imaanu, yaa Rasoolullah? What is faith, yaa Rasoolullah?”

Prophet (s) said:

Faith is that you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day, and that you believe in destiny, its good and its bad. (Muslim)

Remember this wasiyah, advice, from Grandshaykh `AbdAllah and Mawlana Shaykh, may Allah bless their souls, at it will permit us to ascend, to be with Prophet (s). When we say we love them, innama al-`amaalu bi ‘n-niyaat, we are not claiming but we are trying to be good, inshaa-Allah.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
