Jumu'ah Khutbah, As-Siddiq Institute & Mosque (ASIM)
Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Rahim. In the Holy Qur'an, Allah (swt) has given an example of everything that is happening and everything that will happen. Awliyaullah are able to see that light and apply it. We ask that Allah keep us on their Way.
Sometimes a friend invites you over and it is Sunnah to accept. Allah gives you the reward of one-hundred shaheeds if you keep a Sunnah. We were invited and we went, and they were talking and said, "O, the US women's soccer team has lost" and a big discussion then took place.
Where is that loss mentioned in the Holy Qur'an? Allah said: khashiyatan absaaruhum tarhaquhum dhillat. "Their eyes are downcast and they are sorrowful and full of disgrace." O mu'min, Allah (swt) is showing you events before they occur so that you see His Book is true, and to strengthen your iman, and for others to know the Message is open, to look and take heed.
As our teachers told us:
كتاب الله فيه نبأ ما قبلكم، وخبر ما بعدكم، وحكم ما بينكم
Rasoolullah (s) said, "Allah's Book: in it is news of those who passed away, and news of what is after you, and ruling on what is among you." (Sunan at-Tirmidhi)
The imam recites every Friday from Surat al-Kahf:
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِلنَّاسِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍ
And We have certainly diversified for the people in this Qur'an from every [kind] of example. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:54)
In this Book, Allah has explained things to human beings using every kind of example. Everything is in the Holy Qur'an, but to understand it you must follow a good teacher who can teach you to decipher its codes.
So what happened to the US women's soccer team? They missed the goal post. Allah (swt) is saying in Surat al-Ma`arij:
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
The Day when they will come forth in haste from their graves, as if racing towards a goal post. (Surat al-Ma`arij, 70:43)
SubhanAllah. Allah (swt) is ordering Rasoolullah (s), "Leave them with their nonsense and falsehood."
So, I do swear by the Lord of ˹all˺ the points of sunrise and sunset that We are truly capable, to replace them with [people] better than they are, for there is nothing to prevent Us [from doing what We will]. (Surat al-Ma'arij, 70:40-41)
Allah is giving an oath 'by the Lord of the sunrises and the light it emits and by the Creator of the sunsets and the darkness it brings'. Allah (swt) is swearing an oath by Himself on Himself to Himself, innaa laa qaadiroon, "And We are indeed capable." Of what? To exchange them for a Creation that is better than them.
Today, Muslims are looking around and seeing all kinds of falsehood and nonsense everywhere, and when you see this, your heart is burning. Where do you turn at this time? To Allah (swt)! He is able to put one in place of another. He is saying: "We are not `ajiz, incapable," wa maa nahnu bi masbuqeen, "They will never take over from Us."
People today are in falsehood and preaching falsehood, because they are following their desires, hawwa. Whatever they like and want to do, they do. They are not following huda, heavenly messages.
Awliyaullah have said Rabbu 'l-mashaariq, "the Lord of every prophet", as every prophet brings light with them to take away darkness. It is not just a reference to the sun that comes out every day. People say, "O, it is the same sun.' In fact, each day is a new sun. Every day of the year, Allah (swt) makes the sun rise from a different location, a fresh one, not on autoplay. The sun says, "I rise from another position every day, following the orders of my Lord."
Can you change the angle or direction of the sunrise? No, you are powerless and useless. You pretend to have power, but if Allah (swt) takes that power you can sit and do nothing. May Allah (swt) forgive us.
So here, Allah is giving an oath by the light brought by every prophet and messenger to humanity. Then He says:
So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they meet their Day which they are promised. (Surat al-Ma`arij, 70:42)
Leave them pushing their narrative of falsehood, leave them in their baatil, wrongdoing, wa yala`boon, "and they play with something of no benefit." Allah is gathering all human beings, whether Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist, or Christian. Allah gathers them all on that Day. People are busy with nonsense, wasting their lives and lost, busy pushing falsehood, opposed to what Rasoolullah (s) and prophetic sunrises of guiding light brought to Earth. Every day, Allah shows you, "I am bringing you light, so follow it and be safe in the light." If you are in the dark, how can you arrive at your destination?
So Allah (swt) ordered Rasoolullah (s), "Leave them." Therefore, our teachers said, "Leave the quarreling of this world.' Today everyone is quarreling/fighting among families, friends, within societies and nations.
Be busy with what you are ordered by Allah (swt)! As a mu'min and Muslim you follow what you were ordered and what was brought from that sunlight. Some will be resurrected in the light of the sun, others will be resurrected in the light of the moon, some in the light of the stars. Are you going to be resurrected in deep darkness and the bad characteristics of the self? Do you think about that, O human beings?
Allah said: fa-dharhum, "Leave them," which means, "Leave them until they see the Day they were promised." Everyone will see it! What happens then?
"The Day when they will come forth in haste from their graves, as if racing towards a goal post." Nusubin is something you erect. Could you imagine such a precise description? "As if they are racing towards a goal post."
Do you see soccer players racing towards a goal post? And on Judgment Day, they are going to come out running. Where is the locker room of soccer teams? It is below the ground, and they come out of it running. Allah (swt) is giving an example of a football or soccer team coming from underground, sira`an, running to this section and that section.
That is the example of those who are on falsehood. There is also the example of the team that is in a good relationship with those who come with heavenly messages, and the example of the team of those who are not.
Eyes downcast and covered in shame: that is the Day of which they were warned. (Surat al-Ma`arij, 70:44)
They were running towards the goal posts, but at the end their heads were down. Allah (swt) is giving you your example in dunya before Akhira of those who push falsehood in dunya and their eyes will be downcast just as they were in dunya. What happened to her after playing. "Take heed, O human beings!" Allah (swt) is telling you that you are running towards goal posts, but you will be sad at the end. That is a message for those who are not on guidance, those who are following Shaytan's misguidance.
The goal post on Judgment Day is the door of Jannah! Are you going to be of the lucky ones running to the door of Jannah or those whom Allah mentioned in Surat al-Jathiya, "being on their knees not able to move."
May Allah forgive us. Take heed. Allah is showing us events on Earth to know what will happen in Heavens. If you are pushing false narratives, you will be heartbroken and disgraced, both here and there. Don't accept falsehood, Allah has sent you the Truth. If you cannot change what is wrong by hand, then at least change it in your heart.
Nowadays, keep a low profile. The matter is out of your hands, O mu'mins. You have no khalifa over you! Those who call themselves 'Ameer al-Mu'mineen' are not acceptable. What about billions of Muslims who are running after oil and wealth? Leave those who don't say 'Allah' and be with those who say 'Allah'.
And had your Lord willed, those on Earth would have believed, all of them entirely. (Surah Yunus, 10:99)
May Allah forgive us and guide us to the door of Jannah.
