When You Come to Allah (swt)’s Presence, Leave His Enemy Behind

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidee, yaa Sultan al-Awliya, madad. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi wa Mawlay. Madad, yaa RijaalAllah.

Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah, Allah, `Azeez Allah.

Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah, Allah,

Kareem Allah.

Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah, Allah, Subhaan Allah.

Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah, Allah, Sultan Allah.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. It is a humble association and gathering. I am not a teacher. Astaghfirullah. We are all here sitting at the door of Awliyaullah and who they represent. Inshaa-Allah, we can take from their Rahmah.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said wherever Awliyaullah are when they are alive, wherever they walked, or in their graves, maqams, Rahmah mercy comes on them. That’s why people love to be in their company—during their life and even after they pass away—and request to be buried among the saints, because Rahmah continuously comes down on them.

Try your best to take from the Rahmah that comes on Awliyaullah and take from that Noor. That door will open to you. If you are at their door, that Rahmah will also open to your heart. That’s why we are gathering at the doors of Awliyaullah. We come together for Dhikrullah. May Allah (swt) always keep us with them. Don’t take us away from them, yaa Rabbee. Yaa Rabbee. Make us with Your Awliya, with Your Anbiya, at the feet of Your Habeeb, Your Beloved, Sayyidina Muhammad (s).

How do you start? I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), man ahaba shay’an akthara Dhikra. It is a Hadith of Rasoolullah (s). Whoever loves something will mention it too much, loudly, in secret, among his friends, among his people. He will mention their names or that topic. Awliyaullah have said, the sign of love of Allah (swt) is saying His Name, pronouncing His Name, talking about Him, talking about His Ma`arifah, the Knowledge of Allah (swt), talking about Rasoolullah (s).

Look in your associations. What do you talk about everyday? You will understand what’s in your heart. If your time is consumed with Qu’ranu ‘l-Kareem and Hadith Sharif and kalamu ‘l-Awliya then their love is in your heart. Hubbu ‘l-Llah, Hubbu ‘r-Rasool wa Hubbu ‘l-Awliya. If the love of Allah (swt) is in your heart, you will want to talk to Him. How do you talk to Allah (swt)? You open the Qur’an. That is His Kalam. That is the munajat, intimate conversation with Allah (swt) when you read His Words. You’re talking to Him.

Before you talk to Him, you have to knock on the door and ask permission, “Yaa Rabbee. Can I enter into conversation with You? Can I enter into Your Divine Presence?” Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, when Allah (swt) opens the door for you, He will say, “Why did you bring this one with you?” Who is with you? Your ego. Your ego is a Shaytan. Allah (swt) said that Shaytan is adoo’ullah, the enemy of Allah (swt). He says, “When you come to My Presence, why do you bring My enemy with you?”

Do you bring the enemy of Allah (swt) with you when you come to His Presence? That’s why you say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Yaa Rabbee, take him away. Detach him from me. Disconnect this Shaytan from me. This Shaytan that is always jealous, hasood. They say, ummu ‘l-khata’if thalath. The mother of sins are three: hirs, hasad, and kibr. Hirs is greediness. Hasad is jealous. Kibr is pride and arrogance. When somebody is harees and wants everything for themselves, they deprive others. They take everything for themselves, “Everything is for me.” That is when they gather all the wealth of this world.

Hasad, jealousy, is also one of the mothers of sins. When somebody is hasood, what do they like? Hubbu ‘l-jaa, “I am the one to speak, not you. I am the one to sign, not you. I am the one to order, not you. How do you take my place? You shouldn’t. I am here.” That is hasad. You don’t want anybody to be number one, you are the number one. Firaun said, “All of you are okay but I am the highest amongst you.” Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said that in the time of Firaun they worshiped so many idols but he said, Anaa rabbukumu ‘l-`alaa, “I am the highest one of your idols. You can all be at the bottom but don’t quarrel with me. Don’t compete with me.” That is hasad, one of the mothers of sins. When somebody wants to be number one, what happens to the others? They’re crushed.

The other one is kibr, arrogance, pride. “All of you are nothing. I am the excellent one.” All of these, hirs, hasad and kibr. The greediness to have everything for themselves. The jealousy that they don’t want others to even be close to them or not have anything with them. The third is kibr. From that comes hubbu ‘l-maal, hubbu ‘l-jaa, hubbu ‘r-riyaasa, the love of money and wealth, the love of position and post and the love of presidency, being the boss, being number one.

If you speak too much of wealth-- “cryptocurrency, bitcoin.” You spend five hours talking about it everyday with your friends. If you speak of wealth, if you speak of who’s going to be the next high one, the post, the position and the ranks and if you speak of riyaasa, being number one, then that means your heart is consumed with hirs, hasad and kibr. That’s why you are with Shaytan and the ego.

When you have to come to Allah (swt)’s Presence, He tells you, “Leave that ego. Leave being greedy. Leave being proud and arrogant. Leave being jealous and envious. Leave all of that. Leave the ego outside and come to Me.” That’s why we say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem, when you want to enter in the Presence of Allah (swt). The first step of the Muslim is, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. There is no meaning in you reading Fatiha. There is no meaning in you reading Surat al-Baqarah. There is no meaning in you reading Surat Aali `Imran, Surat an-Nisa, Surat al-Ma’idah, Surat al-An`am, Surah al-`Araf and continuing. There is no meaning in reading any of that. There is no meaning in reading Sahih al-Bukhari if you are still befriending your ego. The ego is the partner of Shaytan in committing sins and disobedience.

Awliyaullah have said, if you say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem, by the tongue but your heart does not mean it, your heart is with Shaytan. A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Your heart is running to Shaytan, not running to Allah (swt). When you say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem, you are running to Allah (swt) from the Shaytan and his partner. Who is the partner in crime of Shaytan? The accomplice. Without an accomplice, Shaytan cannot take you anywhere. He can whisper but your ego has to be the accomplice.

You have to run to Allah (swt) from yourself, the ego. You are saying, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem, by tongue. How about your heart? Where is your heart? Your heart is thinking how to have a good time. “How can I have a good time?” Where is your, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem? That means they don’t mean it.

You say it by the tongue but your acts and your heart has to also be like your tongue, saying, “Yaa Rabbee. I don’t want to do any deed with Shaytan. I don’t want to have my heart with Shaytan. I’m running to You.” That’s where you start, O Muslim. Start with, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. All Muslims around the world, start with, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Clean your tongue from khadib and fuhhush and gheebah and all that bad stuff that the ego wants you to do. The ego loves to talk about others, loves to gossip others, loves to lie, loves to cheat. The ego loves all that bad stuff, so clean your tongue from that first and then clean your acts from evil deeds and then clean your heart from the love of this world and crushing others to get what you want.

You have to start there first, O Muslim, with, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. If you do not say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem, you’re not allowed to enter into the ocean of Qur’anu ‘l-Kareem. Fasta`eedhu billah. If you want to read Qur’anu ‘l-Kareem, if you want to go into the Ocean of love of the Divine Presence, you have to leave Shaytan and his partner, your ego, outside. Otherwise you think you’re traveling somewhere but you're just going in circles. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) used to say, they cover the eyes of a mule and make it go around and around. Why? To crush the meal and the wheat. The mule goes around and around thinking that it’s traveling.

You’re the same. Yo’ure working for this dunya. You are crushing whatever is in this dunya for the benefit of others and maybe for yourself, but you’re not going anywhere. Yo’ure going in circles. A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. You cannot blame the ones who have not taken the light of faith, the guidance of Islam, the guidance of Messengers. They don't know yet but they’ve heard and they’re still rejecting. Maybe one day they will accept. But Muslims have accepted not to accompany Shaytan.

That’s what Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said. When you accepted Islam, when you accepted iman, you accepted to separate from Shaytan. Where are you? Are you separated from Shaytan or are you conjoined twins? It’s like one body and two heads. They have one body but two heads, so conjoined twins. You and Shaytan are together, and the nafs. The heart and the ego are together. One wants to do something and the other one wants to do something else. What can you do? You need a surgeon. You need to detach, to be free.

That is the role of saints, Awliyaullah. They detach that head that is a serpent head, the ego. It is a Shaytan just like its boss, the big Shaytan. It will take you to evil acts, evil words and an evil heart. Start there. I think it’s enough. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem, 40 times a day. Forty times minimum you have to say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.

In your namaz, before Fatiha, before, Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem, in every raka`at you have to say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. According to our madhab, you say one time, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem, in the first raka`at. It is enough. But Mawlana ShaykhNazim (q) said because we are weak, Shaytan keeps coming, you have to start all over again with, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. “Yaa Rabbee. This one is coming back.” That’s why there is trouble all over the world because everybody is conjoined at the waist. They’re tied up with shayateen. There are so many shaytans. They are more than human beings.

It is said that shaytans multiply but they don’t die because Allah (swt) has given them time until Yaumu ‘l-Qiyamah. There are so many of them. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, the minute you open your door, there are 70 shaytans that attack you. He said, once you start your day, you have to say, Bismillah tawwakaltu `ala ‘Llah. Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billah. These shayateen will take the side of the road. They will not attack you.

Who remembers Allah (swt) when they’re going out? “Oh, I’m late for work. I’m late for my deal. I’m late for my closing. I’m late for my interview.” Everybody is thinking of dunya, which is normal. All of us are in this dunya, but remember Allah (swt). The more you remember Him, the more His Love will enter your heart.

May Allah (swt) allow us to enter into His Divine Presence, by leaving that Shaytan so when we enter His Door, He doesn’t say, “Why did you bring this one with you? Why don’t you leave this one and then come?” No, Muslim, non-Muslim, the human being has been conjoined at the waist with the devils of this world and they’re wreaking havoc.

Nobody cares what happens. We won’t speak about politics. May Allah (swt) forgive all of us. But detach yourself from Shaytan, O Muslim. You start first and be a role model for others. May Allah (swt) forgive us. Ameen. I think it’s enough. I don’t want to bore you with Shaytan. May Allah (swt) forgive us. Ameen, yaa Rabbee.

Yaa Rabbee, take us away from this cursed one. Make us with the blessed ones. Take us away from the cursed ones. Make us with the blessed ones. Make us follow the Sunnah of Rasoolullah (s) and the way of Awliyaullah to Your Divine Presence, by leaving that Shaytan.

Rasoolullah (s) said, “My Shaytan aslam, he accepted Islam with me.” Every human being has a Shaytan. Rasoolullah’s (s) Shaytan submitted to Allah (swt) and he accepted Rasoolullah (s) as the Messenger. He became Muslim. That’s your duty in this world, to make your ego Muslim, to make your ego love the majalis of Dhikrullah so that Allah (swt) will give it tranquility and peace. Then Allah (swt) will call it, “Okay, now come back to Me. Be one of My servants and enter into My Jannah.”

يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ

Yaa ayyatuha nafsu ‘l-mutma’inna.

(To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (you) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (Surat al-Fajr, 89:27)

O the tranquil ego! Tranquil with what? Dhikrullah.

Alaa bi Dhikrillahi tatma innu ‘l-quloob. With Dhikrullah hearts find tranquility and peace.

"Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah. for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction. (Surat ar-Ra`d, 13:28)

“O ego that is now tranquil and at peace because of Dhikrullah, now you can come to Me. Return to Me, happy, pleased and I am pleased with you. Enter with My servants.” Who are the servants of Allah (swt)? RijaalAllah are the servants of Allah (swt). “And enter My Paradise.” Once you enter into that blessed group and once you enter into Paradise, you have become like Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) who was in the middle of fire in a rose garden. Not the White House. You don’t want to be there. No, in the real rose garden. Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) was in a garden of Paradise with roses, streams and angels in the middle of fire.

Once your ego becomes tranquil with Dhikrullah, Allah (swt) calls it back, “Come back. You have reached the station of Tawheed with Dhikrullah. You deserve to enter with My servants into My Garden.” May Allah (swt) allow us to do that.

Dhikrullah kicks Shaytan away. If you want to kick Shaytan away, immerse yourself in Dhikrullah. Once your ego is Muslim and has submitted and is tranquil and at peace, then you have reached Awliyaullah. Inshaa-Allah, we can reach them very quickly.

It is said that you can reach them in one moment. You can reach that Jannah in one moment, as it happened to the magicians of Firaun. What happened to them? They saw the sign, they fell into sajdah and Allah (swt) gave them iman and showed them Jannah. That’s why when Firaun said, “I’m going to kill you, chop your leg, chop your arms, crucify you,” they said, “No, it doesn’t matter. We are returning to our Lord. All you can destroy is this life. We have submitted and believed in our Lord so He can forgive our sins. And what you have forced us to do from magic, Allah (swt) is the Ever-Lasting.”

In one sajdah those magicians reached the highest level of Tawheed. It can be quick. You can go into sajdah and you can see your position or station in Jannah. Why not? You are the closest to your Lord in sajdah. If you cannot see anything in sajdah, that means you are far away. So many veils between you and your Lord. if the closest you can get to your Lord is in sajdah, think, “What do I see in sajdah?” What do you see when you go into sajdah? I don’t see anything. Alhamdulillah. No dunya, no Akhirah, nothing. Not negative, not positive, still zero, but at least not negative.

When you are in sajdah you don’t want to dream of your next car or your next house or your next job or your next rock or your next gig. If you’re thinking of that, that means you’re in dunya. You’re closer to dunya than Allah (swt) in your sajdah. Mashaa-Allah. Great job, Muslim. Great job, O mu’min. Astaghfirullah.

Yaa Rabbee, don’t make us from them. Inshaa-Allah, when we go into sajdah, Allah (swt) will open to you whatever He wants. Allah (swt) knows best. Astaghfirullahi ‘l-`Adheem wa atubu `ilay.

By the way, Montreal was excellent. Alhamdulillah. Nizam came up. Who else came up? No, you went to Windsor. I heard the story. Mumee. Alhamdulillah, they had a good time. How were they? They were beasts, weren’t they? They were animals. Hadrah animals. Until 2 a.m., they were doing hadrah. Club Naqshbandi. Free membership. Alhamdulillah. May Allah (swt) bless the Montreal people up there. They are doing their best for Allah (swt) and His religion by following Mawlana’s teachings. May Allah (swt) support them. May Allah (swt) open for them more and more, inshaa-Allah, and for the others. Inshaa-Allah, we can do our best also for Allah (swt), for Rasoolullah (s) and for the Ummah by spreading the teachings of our shuyookh, inshaa-Allah.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
