We Know Nothing

Isha Suhbah

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi ta`ala wa barakaatuh. We will speak only for five minutes, because it is too late now.

Everything in this life has a beginning and an end. As the plane takes off at the beginning of the travel until it lands, it has an end. Our life is like that: by our mothers, it takes off after birth and goes to the age Allah (swt) has written for our souls, and it ends when it lands and we die.

No one can take even one minute of the time Allah has given us. If we think a little bit, use our minds…in Shari`ah you have to use your mind; in Tariqah you have to surrender to Allah (swt), you cannot use your mind, what Allah has written for you, you follow. Shari`ah is the constitution, the laws, so you must use your mind and obey what Allah, Prophet (s) and the scholars above you have ordered.

Look at Azhaamatullah! If we look a little into what I am about to say, we will see ourselves as very small, as nothing compared to what I am going to say. We think we are something. If Allah wants, He can take everyone away from Earth and throw us away. Can we guarantee our life? No! Everything is in Allah’s Hands.

Think about it. In the maternity ward of a hospital, you see thirty or forty newborns in their incubators near each other, with ID tags around their wrists. Many of them were born on the same day. Think! Allah (swt) sends the rooh, soul, to the womb of the mother. How many babies are born every day? Daily thousands and thousands of children are born around the world, all souls that are always in Paradise because they are innocent, they haven’t committed any sins. When Allah (swt) created the soul:

أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَىٰ

[Allah asked] “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes!” (Surat al-Araaf, 7:172)

When Allah created us on the Day of Promises, when He asked us, “Am I not your Lord?” we said, “Yes.” We are present from that time, existing. When Allah wants us to appear in dunya, He sends our souls to dunya. Where does the rooh come from?

They ask you concerning the spirit. Say, “The spirit (comes) by command of my Lord: of knowledge it is only a little that is communicated to you." (Surat al-Israa’, 17:85)

It comes from Heavens to Earth. How many millions of years is that distance? The soul can navigate by Allah’s order and come from Heavens to dunya to live that maximum cycle of a hundred years. It can navigate by itself and knows which womb will carry it. Tens or hundreds of thousands of souls come every day; Allah sends all of them to enter their mother's wombs. Not one soul makes a mistake, every soul goes to the womb it was assigned.

When the rooh comes to dunya and then finishes its life, it goes back and tells itself, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`oon. Allah (swt) owns us and we are going back.” That soul goes back. Souls come in thousands and go in thousands, and every soul knows its place. At the beginning of our cycle of life we come innocent, but when we go back we return full of sins, ma`siyya, not thinking about that.

Just as we came we will go, we won’t stay. When Allah calls, you will go. When the Angel of Death calls you, you will not see right or left, you will go straight forward, following where the sound comes from until you know your place, either in Paradise or in punishment. If you look at a person dying in his bed, you can’t see anything coming from his mouth, but in reality, the soul leaves his body and exits through the mouth but you cannot see it. What kind of energy and power did Allah give the soul so that it doesn’t appear? You cannot see it, but with it you can do everything in dunya, and without it you are dead. What kind of power did Allah give every human being? It is amazing! If we think a little bit, our minds would explode from what we see.

Allah (swt) created Creation and gave it to Ummat an-Nabi (s), to human beings. He didn’t create Creation for Himself, but rather for Prophet (s), to whom He gave the whole Ummah. Prophet (s) looks carefully at his Ummah, from the moment a soul leaves Paradise or wherever it was in the Divine Presence, then comes to dunya, completes its cycle, and finally returns. Can anyone identify from where we come and to where we will go? It is impossible!

If we don’t know where we came from or where we are going, it means our ma`rifah is zero. We struggle to find the Ma`rifatullah within us, to know about Allah. It is not a perfect struggle as we are zero, still at the beginning. We must be sure when we leave dunya that at least we fulfilled our obligations, to not be proud of ourselves or think we were great in dunya, because it doesn’t mean anything. When you are great in Akhirah means everything, because Akhirah is eternal and dunya will end.

Truly to Allah there are men whom, if they will something, He wills it.

Indeed, among the servants of Allah are those who, if they swear by Him, He will fulfill it. (Muslim)

Among the Ummah, Allah appointed Awliya to look after Ummat an-Nabi (s), to prepare and clean them and present them to Prophet (s) every night. That is why our duty is to follow Prophet (s) in every footstep: if we follow him we will be saved in both dunya and Akhirah. Lillaahi rijaalun idhaa araadu araad. To Allah, there are men who if they wish or ask for anything, Allah will give them. Those are Awliyaullah. To reach that level of “lillaahi rijaalun…” is to always attend al-suhbah al maiyaah, to be with those you know are connected to Awliyaullah, so stay with them and you will be connected.

Allah (swt) opened knowledge for Awliyaullah through which they can help Ummat an-Nabi (s) and their followers be safe. If we follow what they say we will be saved; if we don’t follow, we will be in problems. Allah gave Ummat an-Nabi (s) something that is very precious to Him and said, “Follow that!” It is something He and His angels are doing:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him with a worthy salutation. (Surat al-'Ahzaab, 33:56)

I have found Indonesia to be the best country in the world that makes salawaat on Prophet (s). Secondly, Allah gave us Majaalis adh-Dhikr, the Circles of Dhikrullah. Majlis adh-Dhikr kaffara li dhunoob, it takes dhunoob and ma`siyya away. When you then go up one more level and make salawaat on Prophet (s), you will be dressed from his Noor and he will prepare you to be in Allah's Divine Presence on the Day of Judgement! Prophet (s) said to his Sahaabah (r):

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إذا مررتم برياض الجنة فارتعوا. قالو وما رياض الجنة؟ قال "حلق الذكر"

Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet (s) said, "When you pass by the Gardens of Paradise, avail yourselves of them." The Companions asked, "What are the Gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The circles of dhikr.” (Tirmidhi)

The rawdah you will enter in dunya is like this circle of dhikr here: this is now a rawdah from Paradise and Allah is sending His mercy and blessings on the people here. He turns them into a rawdah; when the session finishes and they leave, they will return to their lives with the tajalli of Akhirah!

May Allah forgive us, aqoolu qawli hadha wa astaghfirullah al-azheem lee wa-lakum wa li-saa’ir al-mustaghfireen fa-yaa fawzan li ‘l-mustaghfireen astaghfirullah. [Du`a.]

Anyone who wants to renew his baya` may raise his hand. [Baya`.]

Al-Fatihah. Thank you for coming, inshaa-Allah we will see you next time. Wa salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
