We Have to Love All the Companions of the Prophet (s)

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

15 March 2014 Feltham, London, England

`Asr Suhbah at Manor House (2)

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

I will not be long, as there is the ziyarah of the Holy Hair of Prophet (s).

Prophet (s), Sayyidina Muhammad (s), said something important, although everything he said is important, but in this hadith, I will mention a small piece, about how much Prophet (s) loves and cares for whom he loves, because those who love him, he cares for them. And it is mentioned from `Abdullah bin Mughaffal (r):

(Fear) Allah! (Fear) Allah regarding my Companions! Do not make them objects of insults after me. Whoever loves them, it is out of love of me that he loves them, and whoever hates them, it is out of hatred for me that he hates them, and whoever harms them, he has harmed me, and whoever harms me, he has offended Allah, and whoever offends Allah, he shall soon be punished. (Tirmidhi)

“Allah Allah fee as-haabi fa man ahabbahum fa bi-hubbee ahabbahum, Allah allah fee as-haabi, Allah is the One who takes care of my Sahaabah (r). Anyone who loves them, fa bi-hubbi, He loves them because I love them, if anyone… wa man abghadahum fa bi ghadabee abghadahum, if anyone comes against them I will come against that one, wa man adhaahum faqad adhaanee, who harms them is harming me, wa man adhaahum faqad adh-Allah, anyone harms them, he is harming Allah (swt), wa man adh-Allah fa yooshiku an yaakhudhahu, and anyone who harms Allah (swt), says something not nice, it’s fa yooshik, on the verge of,” that person will lose his life and will die. It means we have to love the Sahaabah (r) of Prophet (s), all of them, laa nufarriqu bayna aahadin minhum, “We don’t differentiate between them,” as some other people differentiate and they harm.

I don’t know, didn’t they read that hadith, those who hate Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) and Sayyidina `Umar (r)? We must be very careful in loving Prophet (s) and loving his Sahaabah (r), because Allah will not be happy, and if Allah is not happy what will happen? You will disappear like the airplane (Malaysian Airlines Flight 370) disappeared! Allah (swt) loves who loves His Prophet (s) and the Sahaabah (r) of Prophet (s), so let us say we love them! Are we losing anything? Then Allah loves us! Do you love Sahaabati Rasoolillah? [Yes!] May Allah…[Naray Takbeer!...]

`an Il-Baraa` ibnu `Aazib al-Ansariyy laa yuhibbum ila mu`min laa yuhibbum ila mu`min wa laa yubghidahum illa munaafiq faman ahabbahum ahabbhu ’Llah wa man abghadahum abghadahu ’Llah.

He (s) says, `Ani ‘l-Baraa` ibnu `Aazib, “I heard Prophet (s) saying, al-Ansaar laa yuhibbum ila mu’min (al-Ansaar, those who supported Prophet (s) in Madinah) laa yuhibbuhum illa mu’min, only mu’mins love them, wa laa yabghaduhum illa munaafiq, the only one that dislikes them is a hypocrite, fa man ahabbahum ahabbhu ’Llah, and who loves them, Allah loves them, wa man abghabadahum abghadabu ’Llah, whoever hates them, Allah hates that person.”

That is for Sahaabah (r), so what do you think about the Family of Prophet (s)? How much they come against the Family of Prophet (s), not the old Khawaarij, but the new Khawaarij! Khawaarij are whom? The new Khawaarij, who are they? Say, you are afraid? [Wahhabis.] [Sudden static from the microphone.] See, they want to destroy us! You see how much Shaytan tries to…[laughter], 0f course it is a sign; for everything you have to take a sign. What about the Family of Prophet (s)? Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an:

قُل لَّا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَى

Qul laa as'alukum `alayhi ajran illa al-mawaddata fi 'l-qurba.

Say (O Muhammad), "I do not ask you for a reward except the love of my Family."

(Surat ash-Shura, 42:23)

If you hate the Sahaabah (r) Allah hates you; if you love them, Allah loves you! What do you think about the Family of Prophet (s)? If you hate them, Allah will double His Hate on you and if you love them, Allah will give you infinite rewards: fa man ahabbahum ahabbAllah, “Who loves them, Allah loves that person.” Do you love the Family of Prophet (s) or not? [Yes!] Raise your hands! Allahu Akbar, all of us! Angels, are you watching? Everyone is raising his hand that we love the Family of Prophet (s) and we love Prophet (s) and we love Khulafa Rashidoon, Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r), Sayyidina `Umar (r), Sayyidina `Uthman (r), Sayyidina `Ali (r) and all Sahaabah (r), agreed? [Agreed!] Allahu ‘l-muwafiq, inshaa-Allah.

`An Ibni `Abbas--he is the biggest Mufassir of Holy Qur’an, as when every ayah was revealed, for whatever issue it was revealed, for what incident it was revealed and what the meaning of that was, he takes out of it, subhaan-Allah--he said that Prophet (s) said:

وَلَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا مِنْ أُمَّتِي خَلِيلاً لاَتَّخَذْتُ، أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَلَكِنْ أَخِي وَصَاحِبِي

Wa law kuntu mutakhidhan khaleelan...

If I were to take a khaleel (intimate friend) I would have taken Abu Bakr, but he is my brother and my companion (in Islam). (Narrated Ibn `Abbas, Bukhari) http://www.sunnah.com/bukhari/62/8

Because Sayyidina Ibraheem (a) is Khaleel ur-Rahmaan. You can say in Arabic, Khaleelullah, “Friend of Allah (swt),” but you cannot say, Allah khaleel Ibraheem, “Allah is the Friend of Ibraheem.” Khaleel means “close friend,” like a brother, not like brothers of today that are attacking everyone, hating each other--brothers, families, children--too much problems. Sayyidina Ibraheem (a) is Khaleel ul-Rahman, you cannot say, “Allah Khaleel Ibraheem,” you can say, “Khaleel Ibraheem, Ibraheem khaleelullah.” But for Prophet (s), in the Arabic grammar you can say, Muhammad Habeebullah, and you can say, Allah Habeeb Muhammad.

So what did Prophet (s) say? “If I would have to choose a good friend, khaleel, like Ibraheem (a) to Allah (swt), I would have chosen Abu Bakr (r) for that.” To those who speak ill about Abu Bakr (r), how don’t they feel ashamed? Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r), if his imaan is put on one side of the Scale and all the sins of human beings, of ummatin nabi, on the other side, his imaan is heavier than everything on the Scale! Allah (swt) mentioned him in the Holy Qur’an:

إِذْ يَقُولُ لِصَاحِبِهِ لاَ تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللّهَ مَعَنَا

Idh yaqoolu li saahibih laa tahzan in Allaha ma`anaa

He (s) said to his companion, "Be not sad (or afraid), for surely Allah is with us."

(Surat at-Tawbah, 9:40)

“Don’t get sad, Allah is with us.” Prophet (s) said, “If I would take a khaleel, I would take Abu Bakr (r), but he is my brother, bal huwa akhi wa saahibi, he is my brother and my companion.” Look how much his level is high and all of us (more static on microphone)...these Wahhabis are not leaving us...all of us are connected to him through the Chain of the Naqshbandi Order, which goes back to whom? It goes back to Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) and Sayyidina `Ali (r): from one side Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) and from the other side Sayyidina `Ali (r). That’s why it’s called al-Silsila adh-Dha`biyya, “The Golden Chain.”

Shukran lillah, yaa Rabbee. shukran lillah, hamdan lileeku bi hamdihi, Allahu Akbar! Khalaq al-khalq fa`adama, Allahu Akbar! Khalaq al-khalq fa`adama, “He created Creation and He made it as if it is not existing!” Khalaq al-khalq, He created Creation, but one day is coming when this whole Creation will, ya`anee adama shayy, cease to exist. One day is coming when everything ceases to exist, even the Earth, even samaawaat:

yawmatu bad al-ghari al-ardh wa samaawaat.

“There will be coming a Day that the Earth will be changed to another Earth,” not what you are seeing, as Allah does not descend His Throne on something dirty, because on the Day of Judgment Allah descends to look at His servants, judging them, and He doesn’t judge them on a dirty place; it has to be pure, so a new Earth comes, that previous Earth goes, that samaawaat that you see goes, and new ones come, pure ones.

So, we go back to say that Allah (swt) tayyib wa yuhibb ut-tayyib aw yuhibb ut-tayyiboon, Allah tayyibeen, Allah tayyib, there is no translation! Tayyib means “the best, most absolute good, absolute sweet,” and He loves the absolute sweet; He doesn’t love something dirty, He loves everything clean. So when you love, love for Allah, as when you love for Allah, “For Allah’s sake I love him, for my love to my Prophet (s) I love him,” then Allah loves you. So Prophet (s) said, “If I were going to take a khaleel, I will take Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) and Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) is my brother and my Companion.”

Illa tansuroohu faqad nasarahullahu idh akhrajahulladheena kafaroo thaniyy ithnayni idh humaa fi 'l-ghaari idh yaqoolu li-saahibihi laa tahzan inna allaha ma`ana fa-anzala ’Llahu sakeenatahu `alayhi wa ayyadahu bi-junoodin lam tarawhaa wa ja`ala kalimata 'Lladheena kafaroo ’s-suflaa wa kalimatullaahi hiya al-`ulyaa w 'Llaahu `azeezun hakeem.

If you help him not, still Allah helped him when those who disbelieve drove him forth, the second of two, when they (Prophet and Abu Bakr) were in the cave and he said to his Companion, "Be not sad (or afraid), for surely Allah is with us." Then Allah sent down His sakeenah (calmness, tranquility, peace) upon him and strengthened him with forces which you saw not. (Surat at-Tawbah, 9:40)

When they were in the cave, Prophet (s) said to his friend, which is “brother,” “Don’t feel sad, Allah is with us, why are you worried? Why are you worried?”

You know the Quraysh were running after Prophet (s) to kill him, so he migrated to Madinah, so he stayed in the Cave of Thawr; you can go up, it takes two hours. Prophet (s) was leaning his head on the thigh of Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) as Prophet (s) was tired, putting his head on the leg of Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r). And Allah is able, kun fayakoon, as He took him to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa, He can take him to Madinat al-Munawarra in one step! Prophet (s) doesn’t need to go through the desert and have a guide, but this is for us to learn, that everything for us is not (like for) Prophet (s). So if Prophet (s) has to take a guide and to go in the desert, you seekers of knowledge have to get a guide, you cannot go by yourself!

When Prophet (s) was ascending, he had Sayyidina Jibreel (a) as a guide for knowledge, as where he was going up in Ascension, everything was knowledge there, ma`rifah, so although he doesn’t need a guide, because the explanation says that when he reached near Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa he reached a place where Jibreel (a) said, “I cannot continue,” and Prophet (s) went alone, reaching Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa. So the guide guides you until you reach to Prophet (s), then his job is done. So all of us are lucky because we are connected to that one who is the Companion of Prophet (s), who is the brother of Prophet (s), and we will be saved through the lineage of The Golden Chain of The Naqshbandi Sufi Orders! Many other orders have their connection through Sayyidina `Ali (r), reaching to Prophet (s), reaching to Sayydina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r).

And in another hadith, Prophet (s) said:

Were there another prophet after me, `Umar (r) will be a prophet. CITE

And these two were being attacked by Khawaarij because they hate Prophet (s) and his Sahaabah (r)!

Wa `an `Ayesha (r), Sayyidina `Ayesha said, qaala Rasoolullahi (s), said that Prophet (s) said, and look, they say women have no rights! Sayyida `Ayesha (r) was teaching Sahaabah (r) and most of the ahadeeth are from `Ayesha (r) and Umm Salama (r), of how Prophet (s) was in his house, how he deals with his children, with his family, what they heard from him; everything they take from azwaaj an-Nabi, from the wives (r) of Prophet (s). What she said that Prophet (s) said to her?

“I always feel shy from one person,” Prophet (s) said! Astahee minhu ‘l-malaa’ika, “All angels feel shy from that man and I feel shy from that one.” He was so rich, he gave Prophet (s) everything and he married one daughter of Prophet (s) and when she died, he married her sister. That is Sayyidina `Uthman (r).

And Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) is to Prophet (s) so dear, he is akhee wa saahibih, and about Sayyidina `Umar (r) he said, “If there were another prophet after me, he would have been a prophet.” And Sayyidina `Uthman (r), he feels shy from him, and of Sayyidina `Ali (r), he (s) said:

أنا مدينة العلم و علي بابه

Anaa madinatu 'l-`ilmi wa `Aliyyun baabuha.

I am the City of Knowledge and `Ali is its Door (or Gate). (al-Haakim, Tirmidhi)

Prophet (s) said about Sayyidina `Umar (r), also a very important hadith:

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: لقد كان فيما كان قبلكم من الأمم ناس محدثون، فإن يك في أمتي أحد فإنه عمر.

Laqad kaanaa feemaa kaana Qablakum min al-umami naas muhdathoon. Fa in yaku fee ummatee aahadun fa innahu `Umar.

Prophet (s) said in the previous ummah they used to do things, either they say it, relate it to people or they innovate something good: “Whoever makes something new in Islam and it is good innovation, he will receive the `ajir, Allah will reward him on the number of people that will do it until the Day of Judgment.” That’s why they say there are innovations that are bid`a hasanah, good innovation. the hadith continues, “If there will be in my ummah someone like that, he is Sayyidina `Umar (r),” because he is the first one that innovated Taraweeh in the congregation. Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `ala aali Sayyidina Muhammad.

Abu Musa al-`Ashari (r) said that Prophet (s) said:

حديث أبي موسى رضي الله عنه: أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال له: ألا أدلك على كنز من كنوز الجنة؟ قال: بلى يا رسول الله. قال: لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله.

‘Yaa Aba Musa alaa aduluka `alaa kanzin min kunoozi ’l-jannah? fa qultu, ‘balaa yaa Rasoolullah.’

“Prophet (s) said to me, ‘Yaa Aba Musa alaa aduluka kanzin min kunoozi ’l-jannah? Do you want me to show you or guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Paradise?” Do you want? [Yes!] Everyone wants. Do you want? Say “yes” louder! [Yes!!] (...) Qaal, he said, “Say, ‘laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah,’ as it is a treasure of Paradise.”

It means, “There is no power, laa hawla, and no way, wa laa quwwata,” don’t try to find ways here and there, there is only one way, Allah (swt)! Qul Allah! [Allah!] Say Allah! [ALLAH!]

Quli 'Llaah thumma wa dharhum fee khawdihim yal`aboon.

Say "Allah," then leave them to plunge in vain discourse and trifling. (Surat al-An`am, 6:91)

“And let them play as much as they like with their toys, it is not going to benefit them; what benefits them is to say, ‘Allah.’” So say “laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah!” (Everyone repeats.) Now you have a treasure in Paradise. It is a hadith in Bukhari and Muslim, muttafaqun `alayh, is there any doubt? [No!] Any doubt? [NO!]

We have mentioned before after Zhuhr one hadith that I will mention again.

`An Abi Ayyub al-Ansari (r) said that Prophet (s) said...First of all, do you like slavery? [No.] No, no one likes slavery and if you have the power or money or wealth to save slaves, can you do that? [Yes.] And how important was it to free a slave in the time of Prophet (s)? It was so huge to free someone from `uboodiyya, from being a slave to bad people, is it not? Did you read the story of Sayyidina Salman al-Farsi (r), of how much he suffered as a slave from Persia to Iraq, from Iraq to Sham, from Sham to Madinat ul-Munawarrah? He was sold from one to another, until he was finally sold by Jewish people to Arabs, and Arabs took him from Sham to Madinat ul-Munawarrah, and there they sold him to some other Jewish people. And he sold himself because he wanted to reach Madinat ul-Munawarrah, because he knew from his first teacher in Persia, who was not Muslim at that time, that the Last Prophet is coming in Madinat ul-Munawarra, “in a city between two mountains and lots of date trees.” He wanted to reach there, so he was moving as a slave and they were selling him.

Sayyidina Ayyub al-Ansari (r) said, “I served them with sincerity and loyalty even though I was a slave, because this is the slave character.” Subhaan-Allah, he was pure! Look, it is not for nothing that Prophet (s) made him from his Family (r), because he suffered for the love of Prophet (s) and his age was long, that he was able to go through all that. I recommend that you find this story on the iPad and look it up, and you will know how much he suffered.

So the hadith says, the meaning I will say first, “If you want to free four slaves from slavery from the children of Isma`eel,” to free four, if you are able to free four, do you free them or not? [Yes.] Everyone will free them. And what a simple way that Prophet (s) is giving you, something equal to freeing four from slavery. How much Allah rewards you when you free one, when you free two, when you free three, when you free four. There is no reward less than Paradise!

Prophet (s) said, “If you say this, it is as if you are freeing four slaves.” So say it, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah wahdahu laa shareekah lah lahu ‘l-mulk wa lahu ‘l-hamd yuhyee wa yumeet wa huwa `alaa kulli shay’in qadeer.” Ten times, you say it, muttafaqun `alayh, Bukhari and Muslim.

They say, “Don’t do dhikr,” or they might say, “Do dhikr, but not with number, adad, don’t do dhikr one or two, don’t count because if you count, it’s bida`!” but this hadith says, “ten times, it is as if you have freed four from slavery!” If you say it ten times, he mentioned “ten times,” the innovation here, the bida`, is that Prophet is saying a number and they say, “no numbers!” From where they brought, “Don’t make in numbers.” How many big prophets are there? Five. Is that a number? [Yes.] How many eyes do you have? [Two.] Two is a number. Everything has to be counted by numbers. (...)

Abu Hurayrah (r) narrated that Prophet (s) said:

كلمتان خفيفتان على اللسان ثقيلتان فى الميزان حبيبتان إلى الرحمن سبحان الله و بحمده سبحان الله العظيم

Kalimataan khafeefataan `ala al-lisaan thaqeelataan fi ’l-meezaan habeebataan li’r-rahmaan: SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem.

There are two words that are very easy to say, yet very heavy on the Scale, most beloved to The Merciful, “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem.”

Two sentences, they are very light on the tongue; very heavy on the Scale; this is what we need because we are sinners and our sins are very heavy, but Allah is giving us a way out. Prophet (s) is giving hadith, a way out, two words that are very light on the tongue but heavy in the Scale and when we say, “heavy in the Scale” it means heavier than your sins! Two sentences, “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem,” and some scholars add “istaghfirullah” at the end. So he (s) said, “Say that, it is so easy on the tongue and you will get your Balance, your Scale in the Day of Judgment,” that’s if you say it one time in your life is enough! What do you think if you do it a hundred times? You take your whole community with you to Paradise, all your ancestors! If we say, “SubhaanAllah wa bi-hamdihi subhaan Allahi ’l-`Azheem astaghfirullah,” Allah (swt) will forgive us, inshaa-Allah. nas’allah `azza wa jal an yanfa`ana bil-Qur’an wa bi mahabbata ’l-habeebul-Mustafa `alayhi afdalu ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaam.
