Suhbah at Habib Abbas Alsagoff Residence
Partially Translated from Arabic
Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,
nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta`ala al-`Azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.
أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ
Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)
Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een.
Alhamdulillah nastaghfiruhu wa nasta`eenuhu wa nastahdeeh wa na`oodhu bi ‘Llahi min shuroori anfusinha wa sayyi’aati a`maalina. Man yahdi ‘Llahu fa laa mudilla lah, wa man yudlil fa laa haadiya lah. Yaa rabbanaa, yaa Allah, yaa Allah, yaa Allah!
قُلِ الله ثُمَّ ذَرْهُمْ فِي خَوْضِهِمْ يَلْعَبُونَ
Say "Allah," then leave them to plunge in vain discourse and trifling. (Surat al-An`am, 6:91)
We are saying, “Yaa Allah, yaa Allah, yaa Allah!” so make us always with those who make dhikr and have shukr, and those who love al-Mustafa (s)! Alhamdulillah, this is a circle of dhikrullah. Allah (swt) mentioned adh-dhaakireen in the Holy Qur'an many times and in many different verses and He (swt) told Sayyidina Muhammad (s) in Hadith Qudsi:
أَنَا جَلِيْسُ مَنْ ذَكَرَنِي
I sit with him who remembers Me. (Hadith Qudsiyy. Ahmad, Bayhaqi)
When we remember Allah (swt) we enter into the Hadith of the Prophet (s), where he said to his Sahaabah (r), “When you enter into a Paradise of Heavens on Earth, sit there with those people.”
قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إذا مررتم برياض الجنة فارتعوا. قالو وما رياض الجنة؟ قال "حلق الذكر"
Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet (s) said: "When you pass by the Gardens of Paradise, avail yourselves of them." The Companions asked: "What are the Gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "The circles of dhikr.” (Tirmidhi)
“If you pass by the Gardens of Paradise, sit there immediately, don't run away.” The Sahaabah (r) said, “Yaa Rasoolullah (s), we only know one rawdah mim riyaad al-jannah.” The Prophet (s) said, “According to every majlis there is a rawdah according to the level of the people who are sitting there.” Alhamdulillah, we are sitting here with the Ahbaab, Lovers of the Prophet (s), and with Mawlana `Abbas. Here in this place we remember Allah and we send prayers and blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad (s), so this gathering is a garden from the Gardens of Paradise. Inshaa-Allah we hope to be with the Prophet (s) in dunya and in Akhirah, and with his noble Sahaabah (r). We say as Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:
قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat Aali-'Imraan, 3:31)
He (swt) connected love to following and connected following to love, so if you love something you follow it, and if we love the Messenger (s) then we have to follow him completely and leave forbiddens and perform the obligations. To follow the Prophet (s) is to follow what he really wants from us.
وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا
Leave what Prophet (s) forbade and take what he ordered. (Surat al-Hashr, 59:7)
Prophet (s) ordered us to do good, so we have to do what is good and leave what is bad, as Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur'an:
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَ فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَاا
By the self what shaped it! He inspired it with what it good and what is bad for it.
(Surat ash-Shams, 91:7-8)
Allah (swt) has shown us what is wrong and what is correct! The heart of every person, every servant possessing a soul has been inspired regarding what is good and what is bad, so we must do the good and leave the bad, inshaa-Allah. This gathering is a gathering of good, inshaa-Allah we will be with al-Mustafa (s) and all Awliya in dunya and Akhirah.
Wa bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
