Two Words Light on the Tongue, Heavy on the Scale

Maghrib Suhbah

[On video, suhbah starts @ 37:00.]

كلمتان خفيفتان على اللسان ثقيلتان فى الميزان حبيبتان إلى الرحمن سبحان الله و بحمده سبحان الله العظيم

There are two words that are very easy to say, yet very heavy on the Scale, most beloved to The Merciful, “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

Say, “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem”, then how much our ancestors are now happy with us because it reached them. Any salawaat on Prophet (s), any du`a, any prayer immediately reaches our ancestors and then goes by angels to Paradise, and those two words, ‘SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem’, praise be to Allah for His Generosity, for what He is giving us, praise be to Allah, the Great! Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. That ‘Allahu Akbar’ means He is The Creator and everyone else is Creation, because Allahu Akbar means that He is The Great, that we cannot compare, everyone is under Him, kullun mawjoodaat, whatever exists is beneath Him, He is The Greatest. So “Allahu Akbar” means that everyone is in need for Him, He is the Creator and we are His servants. We are professing that Allah (swt) is The Creator when we say “Allahu Akbar”. They are using that term now and twisting the meaning of it to say that it is a sign of killing.

[Adhaan sounds: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.] The adhaan came. ‘Allahu Akbar’ means everyone is under Him. We are witnessing, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah, there is no Creator except Him, ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasoolullah, we love you, yaa Muhammad (s).” We love our Prophet (s). Hayya ala salaah, how lucky the Sahaabah (r) were when the adhaan was called and they were the first ones to be in the lines to pray behind Prophet (s). How lucky they are and how unlucky we are. Allah gave them to appear with Prophet (s) and be behind him, and He gave Ummat an-Nabi (s) that even though he left dunya, they can appear in his presence.

Awliyaullah can see him (s), they speak with him. So with “Allah Akbar” we are saying that everyone is beneath Him, everyone has been created. If you really believe that and reach the level that Awliyaullah reached when they are in worship day and night, in addition to their work and their families, and the struggle in putting their desires down, and bringing the desire of Allah and his Prophet (s) up, Allah will open the veils to see Prophet (s)! And then Ummat an-Nabi (s) will be lucky, because when Awliyaullah receive the dress of mercy from Prophet (s) that mercy remains with them wherever they move and they distribute it to their followers; not like we hand out candies one-after-one, here ‘distributing’ means they are dipping their followers in Bahr ul-Qudrah, the Ocean of Power that has no beginning and no end. The power Allah controls in His Hand, He dresses on His Awliya, so wherever they go they are the spotlight and distribute His Mercy on their followers by dipping them in that ocean that has no beginning and no end! And yet, Awliyaullah are continually struggling to reach one of these limits. But whatever power Allah has given them, they are still at the beginning, no one can move to the end!

Allah brought Prophet (s) to Qaaba Qawsayni al-Adnaa and from there he moved forward and he is still moving forward, non-stop in Allah’s Oceans of Power and he dresses his Ummah, Ummatan Marhooma, the blessed Ummah: it is blessed already. Allah dressed it with His Mercy, that’s why He told us to say “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem”: when we say that Allah is happy with us, but we are not happy with ourselves because we are molding ourselves too much with this dunya. Some people go to a psychiatrist, they are sick, they see some things that normal people don’t see; what they see is completely different, so they go to a psychiatrist, because they want to be cured and they found that psychiatrists can cure them from the way they think and feel, and that is why they call them ‘abnormal’ and everyone else is ‘normal’. But in reality, we are abnormal and they are normal in their capacity, although they think they are abnormal. Using this example, Awliyaullah struggle as much as they can to reach the Reality of Existence, and people say they are abnormal because they don’t care about dunya, as in reality dunya has no more value to Allah than the wing of the mosquito.

لو كانت الدنيا تعدل عند الله جناح بعوضة ما سقى كافراً منها شربة ماء

If the value of this dunya weighed the wing of a mosquito, Allah would never give a cup of water for the unbelievers to drink. (Tirmidhi)

To Allah, the entire dunya is not equal to the wing of a mosquito, and we are fighting for it and everyone is trying to bite the foot of the other. So we need a psychiatrist, and Allah gave us His Awliyaullah as psychiatrists among the Ummah to keep them on the Right Way. If you knock on a Wali’s door he will guide you to your destiny, but if you don't knock on his door you are lost in dunya, this world.

As soon as we say “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem”, the angels are already reciting it. For example, how many people are in this room? Say a hundred people are here, and we now say “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi”, that is written for you on the number of people in this room and every one gets the benefit of reciting it a hundred times. If there were one-thousand people it is written for you a thousand times. If you say it one-hundred times at Fajr and you are five people, it is as if you recited it five-hundred times and everyone reciting will take five hundred, so it is on the number of people.

Look at how much Allah wants his servant to approach Him through these du`as! That is why Awliyaullah know these secrets, they know kalimataan khafeefataan, they want their mureeds to do that in order to benefit, but unfortunately we don't have the faith. If we believe in that a hundred percent, all our veils would be opened. Like the sick person who goes to the psychiatrist and listens to that person for two hours, but at the end gives him a tablet that we don’t know what it is made of, but he is able to adjust himself.

So all of us are busy with the desire of dunya and we are bipolar for dunya, while Awliyaullah are bipolar for Akhirah, their focus is for Akhirah. When we say ‘bipolar’ it means two extremes: one pushing this way and one pushing that way. Awliyaullah combine both in their personality and they move with them, but if you are not balanced then you struggle, one time going this way, another time pulling that way. So we need guides like doctors, to do what is good for us. Why do we go to lawyers? To guide us. Allah gave Awliyaullah to guide you to take you to the ocean, to safety, Bahr al-Amaan and Barr al-Amaan the Shore of Safety. They don't take you somewhere else.

In Surat al-Kahf, Sayyidina Khidr (a) met Sayyidina Musa (a), who asked to come with him.

قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبْرًا

Qala innaka lan tastatee`a ma`iya sabran.

(The other) said, "Verily, you will not be able to have patience with me.” (Surat al-Kahf, 18:67)

Khidr (a) said, “You cannot be patient with what I do.”

He said, “Yes, I will try. I can be patient.”

This is Sayyidina Musa (a), he was struggling, and by Allah’s Order, he wanted to follow Sayyidina Khidr (a).

So they sailed the boat and Sayyidina Khidr (s) made a hole in it to sink it. Sayyidina Musa (a) was not able to understand and he objected. So his first lesson and the condition to follow was that he would not object three times.

However, he said, “Why did you make a hole in it? We all are going to sink.”

Khidr (a) said, “There is a king on the other side of the shore seizing all boats by force and then he will not look at it because it is sinking.”

(Khidr said), “As for the boat, it belonged to certain men in dire want. They plied on the water. I wished to render it unserviceable, for there was after them a certain (evil) king who seized on every boat by force.” (Surat al-Kahf, 18:79)

So what is the interpretational meaning? Make a hole in the ego by killing it or crushing it, then the Realities will appear. So what did he do next? He killed the boy. Sayyidina Musa (a) couldn’t accept it and also Shari`ah cannot accept, but he did it by Allah's orders. It means kill yourself for Akhirah, not for dunya; we are killing ourselves for dunya. People in the Middle East or anywhere else are killing for dunya, not for Akhirah. Allah will send a king like when Sayyidina Dawood (a) killed Jaloot (Goliath) and Allah sent Taloot to be king on them. He wasn’t a prophet, Sayyidina Dawood (a) was, but Allah supported him with a king from dunya; so we need that dunya king. He is coming and when he comes, everything will settle down. Allah gave them guidance and power. We don't have that, which is why we are struggling.

Then Sayyidina Khidr (a) went to the village, asked the residents to host them, but they kicked them out. So what did they do? They built a wall. Under that wall there was a treasure and when the two orphan boys would grow up they would receive their treasure.

Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “Why did you help when they did not host you?”

Sayyidina Khidr (a) said, “I told you that you cannot go with me, because I do things you can’t understand.”

Awliyaullah do things you cannot understand, and when you try it will be a wrong understanding, as you cannot mentally grasp it, it is above us. Keep the motto from Prophet (s), Yassiru wa laa tu`assiru, “Make things easy, do not make them difficult.” Take the easy way. In this century, there are too many problems around the world. Make things easy, don't make them difficult and you will be safe. If you want to make it difficult then everything you think to do will become difficult.

Allah gave us du`as like, SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem, astaghfirullah to make it easy as He knows we cannot fulfill the requirements; we can do some, but not everything. Awliyaullah do on our behalf. The Prophet (s) took care of the Sahaabah (r) and he is taking care of the whole Ummah and the whole Creation.

As Allah dressed him with that power, on Judgment Day with one sajda by the Prophet (s) Allah will send everyone to Paradise by his Intercession, mu’min and Muslim, as mentioned in Sahih Bukhari. What will happen to the others? We don’t judge that, it is between them and Allah (swt). Look at how much Allah (swt) values and how much love He has for Prophet (s)! He molded him (s) and created him with love: he is the love! As Imam Busayri said in al-Burda, he (s) is Huwa al-Habeeb, the Beloved One; there is no other to be loved like Sayyidina Muhammad (s). Huwa al-habeebu ‘l-ladhee turja shafa`tahu. He (s) represents love, Allah created him from love! That is why Allah gave him the power of Intercession because He does everything for his sake. The Prophet (s) asked, “Ummatee, Ummatee! Yaa Rabbee, I want my Ummah!”

Min kulli hawlin mina ‘l-ahwaali muqtahimi, for every big incident, he is the one who can intercede and Allah will accept, there is no other! Awliyaullah present their followers to the Prophet (s), who presents them clean to Allah (swt). May Allah (swt) forgive and bless us.

There is now two months before the treasures of the month of Rajab, Laylat al-Israa’ wa 'l-Mi`raaj; just yesterday we were fasting Ramadan and it came again. This Ramadan we will see what is going to happen in the world. Shawwal tara al-ahwaal, in Shawwal you will see big disasters, something big is coming. Awliyaullah are trembling day and night, asking forgiveness for the Ummah. We need tablets from the psychiatrist. They gave us a du`a and it can work. So if you continue saying, “SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi subhaanAllahi ’l-`Azheem,” Paradise is waiting for you. That is why the Prophet (s) said the key of Paradise is Laa ilaaha illa-Llah.

من قال لا اله الا الله دخل الجنة

Whoever says ‘Laa ilaaha illa ’Llah’ enters Paradise.

To say “Laa ilaaha illa ’Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah” is the key to the door of Paradise. We hope Allah will give us that key to Paradise. On Judgment Day, Allah calls you to His Presence and you are shivering there and you don't know what to do. All Anbiyaa will be shivering on that day and even the Prophet (s). He will be standing, asking for forgiveness on behalf of the Ummah. Allah will call one person, which is enough to ask on behalf of everyone. He will bring the worst one, a Muslim, and order the angels to put his good and bad `amal on the Scale, his bad `amal on the left and his good `amal ton the right. His bad `amal will be heavier than his good `amal, meaning, he will be entitled to go to Hellfire. According to Prophet’s (s) Hadith, Allah will order the angels to bring his ninety-nine notebooks in which everything he did in his life is written and all of it is his sins. Meaning, he was not doing anything good in his life. But one time he said, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah”, which became heavier than all his sins.

If you say that, you are entitled to enter Paradise. If the Ummah can see and feel that, these veils will be taken away; however, we need strong belief, but because our belief is low-level, we are veiled. We are asking Allah (swt) to open these veils. Allah calls another person and put his `amal on the Scale, on the other side he saw on the Preserved Tablets, SubhaanAllah wa bihamdihi. The man says, “I am not seeing my `amal on the Scale.” The answer will come, “You cannot see, because there is already Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah and you are entitled: enter Paradise without account.”

So we have to say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah `alayha nahyaa wa `alayhaa namoot wa `alayha nalq’Allah”. Inshaa-Allah, may Allah keep this gathering. You will go but the tajalli remains and goes with you, in a masjid or house and no matter where you are, that place will become a place of safety, full of mercy. At that moment when you make dhikr, that becomes a place of mercy that you take with you, which means you turn your homes into masajid, a place of dhikrullah for yourself and your family. May Allah (swt) make everything we have into masajid: our homes, our hearts, our children, our families, and everyone else that we love.

The baraka of Awliya is so great. When I came to America August 23, 1990, I stayed in New Jersey, then went to California, and we decided to buy a zawiya, but I didn’t know how to proceed, the laws. And we agreed to buy this place. We were signing the contract and just then I noticed, what is the street address? ‘7007’, which struck me; I didn’t know until then. That is the number of Awliyaullah in the Naqshbandi Golden Chain. And also the area code is ‘313’, the number of As-haabi Badr. I didn't argue with the person and signed immediately! Also, his initials are ‘HK’. So the baraka of Awliyaullah brought us to this place with these codes, 7007 and 313.

That was in 1993. Not long ago, I received a book of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s subhahs afrom 1980 in Sri Lanka, in which he said, “I am looking forward to the future when I will put a qiblah in the American Midwest.” It is a long suhbah and this is what he said, and I came to this place in 1993; it is a place that Allah bestowed on His servant. Allah has His Ways with His servants. In 1980, Mawlana said he is seeing a qiblah in the Midwest and it happened just as he said. We signed the contract with 7007 as the house address and 313 for the telephone area code.

May Allah (swt) make more people to come. We love them, they love us and inshaa-Allah we will be together in dunya and Akhirah.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
