From Mawlana Shaykh Nazim's Personal Notes

Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.

Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, wa Mawlya. Yaa Sultan al-Awliya. Dastoor, yaa RijaalAllah. Madad.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullahi ta`ala wa barakaatuh.

Welcome again. May Allah (swt) accept your visit. Alhamdulillah, we have people from Toronto, Canada, Mexico--next to the border. It might be a cartel. May Allah (swt) accept your visit and reward you multiple times more, inshaa-Allah.

We speak from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q)’s suhbahs. He is our master, our teacher, our light, our guide--for me, for you and for humanity. Alhamdulillah, we were blessed with somebody who compiled his suhbahs and this was gifted to my father back in 1999, 25 years ago. Alhamdulillah, it got to my hands and I am reading.

Their words are true. Their words apply to every time, to every century, to every period. This suhbah was given in London on June 6, 1989. He says, this century is the century of the tyrants, the wicked ones who have gone overboard. Have you heard of Nero, Shaykh Abdallah? You never met him? There are so many like him nowadays according to our master, and it’s true. What did Nero do? He burned cities. He burned his own city.

He was a mastermind of destruction as Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is saying. Nero was a Roman emperor who burned. This century has so many like him. What is the speciality of such people? The specialty of such people like Nero who are burning the world, destroying the world, killing thousands of innocent people in vast numbers. You can call it mass killing and destruction. Rasoolullah (s) has told us and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) always repeated this one Hadith that, “After me will be khalifahs. After khalifahs will be the princes. After the princes will be the kings. After the kings will be the tyrants.”

سيكون من بعدى خلفاء ثم من بعد الخلفاء امراء ثم من بعد الامراء ملوك ثم من بعد الملوك جبابرة ثم يخرج رجل من اهل بيتى يملأ الارض عدلا كما ملئت جورا

Sayakoonu min ba`dee khulafaa’un wa min ba`d al-khulafaa’un umarraa’un wa min b`ad al-umarau mulookan wa min ba`d al-mulook jabaabira thumma yakhruju rajulun min ahli baytee yamla'u al-ard adlan kamaa muli'at jooran wa zhulma.

“There will come after me caliphs, and after caliphs will come princes, and after princes, kings, and after kings will come tyrants. Then a man comes out of my family who will fill the Earth with justice, just as it was filled with oppression.” (al-Jami` al-Saghir)

Rasoolullah (s) told us about the future. The last kings were the Ottoman kings. After the Muslim kings will come the tyrants. It started in the late 1700s. After that, the tyrants have filled the Earth. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said it started back then but it continued everywhere. In Germany tyrants ruled and killed so many people, in Italy, Spain, France, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Yugoslavia, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan, Turkey, Russia--basically the tyrants have taken over the world. That’s what we see nowadays. Everywhere there is a tyrant and that tyrant is erasing what history writes about him.

Who is going to be the judge on these tyrants? History will be the judge. They keep changing history but the true history will be judged on them and the reality and truth will not be erased. Actually, it will appear. Whatever all these tyrants around the world are doing and however they’re writing the history or the facts, events or circumstances, the truth will appear one day. They will not be able to bury it or hide it.

One prophet had a dream. It is said that the Orders of Allah (swt) come in the dreams of prophets. When a prophet is ordered to do something in a dream, he has to do it. Sayyidina `Ibrahim (a) saw in a dream that he was slaughtering his son. It was an order. This prophet saw that, “Tomorrow you will travel. When you travel tomorrow, you have to swallow the first thing you see. You have to run away from the second thing you see. You have to bury the third thing you see.” Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) is giving you an example, O tyrants and the ones who are observing what the tyrants are doing. This is a lesson from the heavenly messengers, the heavenly men. May Allah (swt) always keep us with heavenly ones, holy ones, to take from their love, mercy and light that they have for humanity.

This prophet woke up and went out of his house in the morning. The first thing he saw was a huge mountain. I also heard this story from Mawlana Shaykh Hisham one time. He was ordered to swallow the mountain. He approached the mountain and started climbing up. As he was climbing up that mountain, he noticed the mountain was shrinking and getting smaller and smaller. The higher he went, the smaller it became. When he reached a certain point, the entire mountain collapsed and became like a small cookie or a piece of bread. He took it and swallowed it. He found so much pleasure in swallowing that mountain that became like a little piece of bread.

He continued his travels. Next he found the carcass of an animal. It was stinky, rotting flesh and all the bad smell was spreading throughout the air, so he ran away from it. The third thing he saw was a jar of gold, so he buried it in the sand. Whenever he would leave, that jar would re-emerge. He would come back and bury it and then it would come out again and he would bury it again. He left it and continued.

Allah (swt) inspired him with the meaning of these three things. He said, “The first thing you came across was your anger.” When you are angry, it’s very difficult to swallow your anger. They say, “Swallow your pride.” You have to swallow your pride. When you’re angry, you become proud. You think you are like a big mountain and everything in front of you is so little that you can crush it. “I’ll come over you with my big mountain and crush you.”

The first thing pointed to your anger, O human being. It is very difficult to swallow that anger but when you are walking on the anger, trying to bring it under control, the more you bring it under control, after a while it becomes little. Have you ever tried it, O mureed? Let’s start with our mureeds. Did you ever try controlling your anger? No, including me. The teachings of our masters, the teachings of Awliyaullah, the teachings of saints to all humanity is that when you encounter anger what you have to do is you have to control it. Step over it. Try to swallow it. Because if you don’t, what happens? If you don’t control it with the power of tolerance, what will happen? It will explode as physical violence. If you don’t control your anger, it will become physical violence.

Have you ever become violent when you were angry? You have to step over it with hilm, haleem. Why you say, “Yaa Haleem, yaa Haleem, yaa Haleem”? What does it mean? We don’t know. It just sounds nice. It sounds very melodious. Everyone tries to make their melody. I hear melodies from here and there. Everybody is melodious, beautiful. Alhamdulillah, chanting. Chant but understand the meaning. What is “Haleem”? Haleem is the One Who is so tolerant, so forbearing. Forbearance. When you become angry, you control your anger. If you don’t, it will explode as physical violence and it will cause harm to you and to others. When you control that anger and you are able to swallow it, you will find pleasure.

When your ego is so angry but you’re able to control it, after a while you will find pleasure because you have not exploded in the face of your wife, your husband, or your brother. Allah (swt) protected me from me. Alhamdulillahi ‘l-ladhi hamanee min nafsee. All praise to Allah (swt) that He has protected me from my own self.

What can you do if you’re angry? “Wipe them all out.” You have to ask your Lord to protect you from yourself, O human being. Look at the teachings of saints. You don’t sit with saints, you sit with shayateen. When you sit with shaytans, they tell you to get more angry.

The second thing that he encountered was that carcass or that corpse that was rotting. He said, “That corpse signifies the slandering, backbiting, gossiping of the dead flesh.” In Qur’an al-Kareem it says if you gossip, you are eating the dead flesh of your brother.

O ye who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: And spy not on each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, ye would abhor it...But fear Allah. For Allah is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. (Surah Hujurat, 49:12)

Gossiping, making fitna between people, tattle telling, saying, “Do you know what this one said about you? Do you know what that one said about you?” You make fitna and problems between them, you gossip, you slander, you create scandals, expose secrets. These are all like that corpse, stinking flesh. The saints are telling you when you see a majlis like that, you have to run away from it. How many times do you enter your home or your friend’s home or to a party and all you do is gossip about the person who is not present or talk about the ones who are not there or reveal their secrets or slander them or backbite them? The teachings to you, O human beings and the ones who say they are mureeds, is that you do not slander others and expose their secrets.

Nowadays they plot in secret against each other, gathering intelligence, gathering information. You have succumbed into the filthiest of filth, into the dead flesh, corpse kind of stuff. May Allah (swt) forgive all of us. That’s the third.

The first is your anger. You have to step over it until you are able to swallow it. The second is don’t slander others, don’t plot against others, don’t show others in bad faith or in a bad light. The third is whenever you try to bury the truth, it will surface. No matter how much you try to bury the truth, it will surface. Yesterday I was saying, “Yaa Rabbee, what do I read today?” I opened this before I went to bed.

What is the truth? I don’t know. What is the truth? Whenever you want to bury the truth, it surfaces. I asked, “Yaa Rabbee, let me see something in a dream so I understand what the truth is.” After Fajr what I saw in the dream--I didn’t even see it in the dream. I heard while half awake, half asleep that verse in Surah Insan, asta`eedubillah:

إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ يُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَآءَهُمْ يَوْمًا ثَقِيلًا

As to these, they love the fleeting life, and put away behind them a Day (that will be) hard. (Surah Al-Insan, 76:27)

We read it every Jumu`ah in the second raka`at. Towards the end, Allah (swt) says, Wa yadharoona wa ra’ahum yawman thaqeela, “They leave behind them the thought of a very heavy day.”

A heavy day is coming where the secrets will be exposed. All the realities will surface. You think you are burying the reality nowadays here in this world, in this dunya, in this life. Allah (swt) said, “You have forgotten that there will come a day that is very heavy on you, a dreadful day, a heavy day where the reality will be exposed.” Allah (swt) will say, iqra kitaabak. It’s in Surah Isra.

ٱقْرَأْ كِتَـٰبَكَ كَفَىٰ بِنَفْسِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيبًا

(It will be said to him:) "Read thine (own) record: Sufficient is thy soul this day to make out an account against thee." (Surah al-Isra, 17:14)

“Read your own book. It is enough for you today to account for yourself.” Nobody else is going to read it. Allah (swt) will not read your book. Angels will not read your book. Your family will not read your book. Your media will not read your book. You, yourself will read your book. You will be accounting yourself by yourself. On that day you will read what you have done. Nobody else will tell you what you have down. It is all written down.

See what you have done, O insaan. That is the reality that is coming upon you. You’re headed towards that reality, the reality of that heavy day, the dreadful day, the difficult day that you will read what you have done. You cannot hide the truth at that time.

Nowadays they justify their actions with every kind of statement. You don’t know who is telling the truth. You don’t know who’s telling a lie. You just don’t know. We have all become confused. We don’t know exactly what’s happening. That day is coming where the truth will come upon everybody and they will see it. Why don’t you try to clean your scrolls? Why don’t you try to clean up your souls? Because you’re cheated by Shaytan. You sit in the majlis of Shaytan and learn that stuff. Shaytan has deceived you, telling you there is no Hereafter, telling you there is no Judgment Day, telling you there’s no day that this truth will surface.

That day is coming, so clean up your scrolls, O insaan. Clean up what you have done. Come to the way of saints. Control your anger. Second, run away from plotting against humanity. They want to destroy humanity. Third, the truth will surface so prepare yourself. Shaytan has cheated you. They say that some of the signs that Shaytan has cheated you is that you know death is coming but you don’t prepare for it. Is death going to come upon you, O tyrant? Didn’t death come upon the tyrants of this world? It came.

Shaytan cheats you when you do not remember death and you are not preparing for it. That is one. Second, when you do not think that the qabr, grave, will be your home. Why don’t you furnish it? When they rent apartments, sometimes they say it’s furnished. It’s beautiful. Yeah, everything is beautiful just for you. There is a difference between a furnished and unfurnished apartment. You don’t want to stay in an unfurnished apartment because it has no taste. Why don’t you furnish your grave with your good amal, O human? Because Shaytan has cheated you, telling you, “Don’t. There’s nothing on that side.” That is one of the signs that Shaytan has cheated humanity.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. The world has become so cruel. Isn’t it cruel what happened in Moscow? It’s cruel. Isn’t it cruel what’s happening in Ukraine? It’s cruel. Isn’t it cruel what’s happening in Palestine? It’s cruel. It’s all cruel, painful stuff and that’s because Shaytan has played with the hearts and minds of human beings.

May Allah (swt) forgive all of us. The first thing is to control your anger, O insaan. Ameen.

I remember one story and inshaa-Allah, we’ll finish here because people always go to the side of the one who has been oppressed by the oppressors. There was a guy called Hajjaj az-Zalim. I don’t know if you have ever heard of him. Hajjaj az-Zalim was a big zhaalim, oppressor. His title was, “The tyrant, the oppressor.” I think he used to be at the time of the Abbasid. Allah (swt) knows best. I’m not sure.

Hajjaj az-Zalim used to kill people for fun. He was so cruel. If you said the wrong word in front of him, you were gone. He crucified somebody on a crucifix and a Waliyullah was passing, looking. He said, “Yaa Rabbee, Your tolerance to the zhaalim has harmed the mazhloom. Your tolerance to the cruel, unjust one has harmed the weak, oppressed one,” and he left. This man slept and he saw in a dream that Judgment Day came and the Waliyullah entered into Jannah with Allah (swt)’s Rahmah. He was looking around Jannah and he looked up. He found that weak one who was crucified in the highest levels of Jannah. This saint saw in the dream the one who was killed by the zhaalim, the oppressed one that Allah (swt) has put him in the highest levels of Jannah. He heard a noise telling him that, “My tolerance and forbearance to the just ones has raised the oppressed to the highest levels.”

When you see an oppressed one, a weak one who is being punished, tortured, killed, maimed, whatever, as a Muslim you have to understand that Allah (swt) does not leave good acts, does not leave bad acts unrewarded or uncompensated. Any human being that is being oppressed and dies during that oppression, Allah (swt) has a wisdom for them that on the other side He will raise them higher up in Paradise. Not everything is bad as you see with your eyes, O human being. As a mureed, as a mu`min, as a Muslim you always have to look to the other side. Don’t be blind like the others. They only look at this world. Yes, what’s happening in this world is cruel. We say that. We are speaking about what our teachers are teaching humanity. They are teaching them, “Control your anger because it’s going to burn you and burn others.” But if it happens then you have to know that Allah (swt) has secured for these oppressed ones something much better on the other side.

Always have that strong iman in your heart, O insaan. May Allah (swt) allow us to understand the teachings of our master, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) . May Allah (swt) allow us to control that anger that has engulfed the world. If it doesn’t get controlled, there will be no worry about climate change anymore. Climate change is going to kill 1 million people in ten years. You’re going to kill 6 billion people with the press of a button. Come back to your senses, O human. They kill us with this climate change. Okay, do your best but one red button is going to take the whole world apart. You cannot breathe the air anymore. It’s finished.

May Allah (swt) forgive us and give guidance to our leaders to ensure safety and security for humanity to come to their common sense, to not listen to shayateen around them. Don’t listen to the devils around you, listen to the angelic voices which are the saints, the prophets and the holy books that have come. May Allah (swt) allow them and allow us to follow what has come from our Creator.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, wa bi hurmati ‘l-Fatihah.
