Jumu`ah Khutbah
A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.
[Opening Du`a of Khutbah.]
As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. O Muslims, Believers! We are in a place that has been blessed, as Prophet (s) mentioned in his famous Hadith:
قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إذا مررتم برياض الجنة فارتع. قالو وما رياض الجنة؟ قال "حلق الذكر"
Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet (s) said: "When you pass by the Gardens of Paradise, avail yourselves of them." The Companions asked: "What are the Gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "The circles of dhikr.” (Tirmidhi)
Allah loves His Ummah and wants to give them rewards and paradises, and we are today in a paradise remembering one of the Awliyaullah, alladheena qaala fee haqqihi `azza wa jall, whom He mentioned in the Holy Qur'an:
بَلْ أَحْيَاء عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ
No, they live, finding their sustenance provided in the Presence of their Lord. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:169)
We are in a masjid or dargah, zawiya, khaniqah of that one who is representing the Naqshbandi Sufi Order, who spread it throughout the West and East: Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani, may Allah bless his soul. He left us a Garden of Paradise here and that's why it is very important to visit and make ziyara from time to time, to remember what Allah rewarded us, as Prophet (s) said:
قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إذا مررتم برياض الجنة فارتع. قالو وما رياض الجنة؟ قال "حلق الذكر"
Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet (s) said: "When you pass by the Gardens of Paradise, avail yourselves of them." The Companions asked: "What are the Gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "The circles of dhikr.” (Tirmidhi)
He (s) said, "No, not only that. Allah is rewarding the Ummah to make dhikr in every place, wherever there are circles of dhikr because there is Manifestation of Riyaad al-Jannah. This is a circle of dhikr. We are here every week remembering Allah (swt), or in your country you are leading or expressing as followers of Mawlana Shaykh, advising others and making dhikr in a masjid, room, house or circle, and that place becomes a rawdah with Manifestations coming from Rawdat an-Nabi (s) that Allah granted us on Earth. So in every masjid around the world that does dhikrullah, try to join those people because they are in a setting of a Paradise. Allah (swt) blessed us with this Paradise where all of us can come and celebrate His remembrance.
I would like to mention that we are now in the time about which Prophet (s) spoke many Signs of the Last Days. I will mention an obvious one and people will wonder how Prophet (s) knew it 1500 years ago, and we know Allah (swt) gave him `Uloom al-Awwaleen wa ‘l-Akhireen, the Knowledges of Before and After. With that power he (s) predicted there will come a time when Islam will be lost, forgotten:
يوشك أن يأتي على الناس زمان لا يبقى من الإسلام إلا اسمه ولا يبقى من القرآن إلا رسمه ، مساجدهم عامرة وهي خراب من الهدى ، علماؤهم شر من تحت أديم السماء ، من عندهم تخرج الفتنة ، وفيهم تعود
There will come a time upon a people when nothing remains from Islam except its name, nothing from the Qur’an except the form of its letters, mosques will be built but are empty of guidance, their scholars will be the worst people beneath the sky, and chaos will emerge from them and return to them. (Bayhaqi)
Today, who knows what Islam is? People know the name ‘Islam’ but they don't know it's meaning, the Ahadeeth of Prophet (s), Islamic Fiqh or Tafseer of Qur'an, so they come against it as they only know, for example, “Islam is terrorism." Why? Because Muslims make Islam look bad by their actions. So we have to know, as Prophet said, "Nothing will be left from Islam except its name," that Islamic Fiqh will be understood by very few, a minority in the world today.
Then Prophet (s) said, “And nothing (will remain) from the Qur’an except the form of its letters (calligraphy).” From his Greatness, Sayyidina Muhammad (s) can see from far away what will happen in the future. Today what do you know about Qur'an? Many people don't read it, they only put it on the shelves. Prophet (s) said. “There will be nothing left from Qur'an except rasmuhu, to draw it. That is now happening, Qur’an calligraphy artists are everywhere, drawing various ayaat al-Qur'an and Hadith. We don't see many people memorizing or learning Qur'an.
Alhamdulillah, Allah blessed us with Awliyaullah who have guided us to the Right Way, like Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah bless his soul; they take obstacles away from the road and put us on Siraat al-Mustaqeem, as Prophet said in the Holy Hadith:
" إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا ، جَعَلَ لَهُ وَاعِظًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ يَأْمُرُهُ وَيَنْهَاهُ "
If Allah (swt) wants goodness for His servant, He will make for him a guide in his heart.
(Abu Na`eem al-Ispahani in Hilyat al-Awliya fom Ahmad bin Hanbal)
Alhamdulillah, our guide is not from within our heart but he is physical, he showed us the way, and that is more powerful than a guide within the heart only: we have someone who showed us the way from within his heart through his physical appearances! May Allah (swt) keep us on the way of Awliyaullah, keep us on the way of Rahmatan li ’l-`Alameen, Sayyidina Muhammad, alayhi afdalu ‘s-salaatu wa sallam.
And Prophet (s) said:
أصحابي كالنجوم بأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم
My Companions are like stars (on a dark night); whichever of them you follow, you will be guided.
(`Abd ibn Humayd, ad-Daraqutnee, ibn `Adiyy, ibn `Abd al-Barr,
with unsound chains but the meaning is sound.)
You will be saved, you will be guided, and all Awliyaullah are inheriting the secret of Islam, the secret of Qur'an, the secret of Hadith from Sahaabat an-Nabi (s), Ashaab an-Nabi. May Allah (swt) keep us with them, aqoolu qawli hadha wa astaghfirullah al-azheem lee wa-lakum wa li-saa’ir al-mustaghfireen fa-yaa fawzan li ‘l-mustaghfireen astaghfirullah.
“Prepare yourself” means do as much as you can of dhikrullah and `ibaadah because, as Prophet (s) said, there will come a time when everyone will wish to die before their time comes. It will be a very heavy time that he mentioned in an authentic Hadith:
Thawban (r) said the Prophet (s) said:
وإذا وضع السيف في أمتي لم يرفع عنها إلى يوم القيامة
Once the sword appears in my Ummah it will not be removed until the Day of Resurrection.
(Muslim, Tirmidhi)
Look into that Hadith: today people are showing ideo clips of their knives and swords and they are happily cutting necks of innocent people. Prophet (s) said when swords are raised within the Ummah it will be against each other, so you have to anticipate this. May Allah protect us from the fitaan that iwill happen.
عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا ، وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا ، الْقَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ ، وَالْمَاشِي فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّاعِي ، فَكَسِّرُوا قِسِيَّكُمْ وَقَطِّعُوا أَوْتَارَكُمْ وَاضْرِبُوا سُيُوفَكُمْ بِالْحِجَارَةِ ، فَإِنْ دُخِلَ يَعْنِي عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْكُمْ فَلْيَكُنْ كَخَيْرِ ابْنَيْ آدَمَ " .
Before the Hour comes, there will be a tribulation like patches of dark night. A man will get up a Believer and go to sleep an unbeliever, or will go to sleep a Believer and wake up an unbeliever. The one who sits at that time will be better than one who stands and the one standing will be better than the one walking and the one walking will be better than one running. Break your bows, cut their strings and strike your swords against stones. If someone comes to kill any of you, then be like the better of the two sons of Adam. (Narrated Abu Musa al-Ash`aree, Abu Dawud, ibn Majah)
We see from this that even you have to avoid yourself! “The one who is sitting in his dhikr area, halaqah, circle, will be saved, is better than the one who is standing, and the one watching is better than the one walking…. At that time, put down your sword and break it on the stone in order to avoid being part of that fight….”
We are peaceful Muslims, peaceful mu’min, peaceful followers of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, we only need peace and happiness in our lives and inshaa-Allah we can see Prophet (s) before the Day of Judgement, maybe on the day of our death or in dunya. May Allah forgive us.
