As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi’ l-`Aalameen wa ‘s-salaatu wa ‘s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi ‘l-mursaleen. Alhamdulillah alladhee hadaana wa maa kunnaa li-nahtadiya law laa an hadana ‘Llah. Yaa Rabbee, yaa Allah! Anta Allah al-khaaliq wa nahnu al-`ibaad fa ‘ghfir lana dhunoobana.
Dear brothers and sisters everywhere, I am sure that you are hearing us and viewing us and this is a moment of remembrance. It is not because we are clever; no, we are helpless, but it is an honor that Allah (swt) shed on us to be from Ummat an-Nabi, that is fakhruna, our pride. As much as you are closer to Allah (swt), you will never be closer than Prophet (s) and no one from Adam, from angels, from jinn, from ins, can claim they are closer than Prophet (s). As much as Prophet (s) is closer to Allah, his Nation is close with him as he mentioned. We are close because we are with Prophet (s) and that doesn't need a proof. Ahlu ’s-Sunnah know that his Nation is with him! Never is an Ummah of Prophet (s) away from Prophet (s), it’s with him
And know Allah's Messenger is in you. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:7)
W`alamoo anna feekum Rasoolullah wa `alamoo anna ma`akum `alaa al-ayah ma`akum wa feekum wa `indakum. All this point is that we are with him, he is with us, within us, among us! Here, if we say “Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah,” he (s) is with us either by looking at us or by being present, no doubt! Anyone that wants to put doubt in the heart of Ahlu ’s-Sunnah is following Shaytan, like Iblees putting doubt in Adam (a). Islam, Iman, Ihsan, Holy Qur'an, Sayyidina `Ali (r) said to the Sahaabah (r) that all of that can be summarized in one word, it's like millions of bees running to make honey and they give you one cup! All books, millions have been written to explain everything, but Sayyidina `Ali (r) said, “All the books of people don't bring anything but pain in the heart, except Holy Qur'an and Hadith.” You go to a bookstore or library and you see millions of books; Library of Congress, how many books do they have? What happiness do they bring people? Nothing. If they spend all their lives to read it all, but it doesn't bring happiness because there is a trade, we are trading with Allah (swt): do you accept to have dunya or Akhirah? Trade! If you want dunya, take it, and those who want Akhirah, take Akhirah. You cannot have both except in Prophet (s) through the verse:
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Our Lord, give us hasanah (good) in this life and good in the Next Life and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:201)
In other words, to be with Prophet (s), what is hasanah other than that? That is the best dunya, the best hasanah! Your dunya is the first step to Akhirah. Is Allah in need of our prayers? Nothing harms Him: if we pray or not, He doesn't increase or decrease as He is The Creator, ‘Allah’ (swt)!
What is that Name? Who sent that Name to the heart of Adam (a)? `Ajeeb, it encompasses all Beautiful Names and Attributes. When you say “Allah” it is as if you said the Ninety-nine Names because it contains them, and an infinite number of Names; every appearance in dunya appears by a different Name of Allah. You, he, she--all appear by different a Name. Existence without the support of one of His Beautiful Names cannot appear, a person cannot live, we are existing by Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes.
Who was the one observing that? Can any `abd observe that except Sayyidina Muhammad (s), when he reached Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adna? What is Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adna? What are those hidden words, in English? [To two bows] Two bows of an arrow, he was so near! Qawsayn is “two bows” or “less”. “Less” can be...He didn’t say, Allah left it open, so we say according to what Allah has inspired scholars and awliya, that Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adna can be less than 1 mm in our measurement, but as the Hadith says, one heavenly day is equal to a thousand or 50,000 earthly days, then that 1 mm is so big. But no doubt, the one who was diving into the shore of that ocean was Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and awliya are running after that hidden knowledge.
So they found one of Our Servants on whom We had bestowed Mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught knowledge from Our Own Presence. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:65)
What heavenly knowledge is it to kill the boy, sink the boat, build the wall (as told in Surat al-Kahf)? What was the knowledge Sayyidna Musa (a) didn't know? Did we dive in it? Awliya are stunned, astonished, they don't know what to say, all Awliya are tense with anticipation of what new knowledge is coming in Rajab, Rajabun Sharullah, starting next Friday or Saturday. Allah (swt) says:
Rajab is Allah's month, Sha`baan is my month and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah.
(Abul-Fath ibn Abi Fawaris in his `Amalee from al-Hasan)
What is ‘My month’? We read it, but what does ‘Rajabun shahrullah’ or ‘Sha`aban shar al-nabi’ or ‘Ramadan is the month of the Ummah,’ mean? All that Sayyidina `Ali (a) mentioned in one word: “Everything brings pain to the heart except one thing, everything depends on that.” The Sahaabah (r) said, “Yaa `Ali, tell us!” He said:
The head of wisdom is makhaafatullah, fear of Allah.
If there were fear in these summits and conferences they make, dunya would be in the best way, but there is no fear of Allah, everyone wants to cheat everyone else!
The signs of a hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, and when he makes a promise he breaks it, and when he is charged with a trust, he deceives. (Bukhari)
The signs of the hypocrite are three: if he speaks he lies; if he makes an oath he breaks it; if he is entrusted he betrays, finished. That is the line people are drawing in front of them. Allah called them hypocrites because they lie; anyone who lies…and the big liars are those who are not giving respect to Prophet (s)! Allah gave respect to Prophet (s)! What kind of human beings are they? Hasharat, they are worms that hide under the soil. They bring the name of Prophet (s) down! In Ahadith on Signs of the Last Days it is said nothing will be left of Islam except its name.
There will come a time upon a people when nothing remains from Islam except its name, nothing from the Qur’an except the form of its letters, mosques will be built but are empty of guidance, their scholars will be the worst people beneath the sky, and chaos will emerge from them and return to them. (Bayhaqi)
Today, what is left from Islam? Nothing, Muslims are attacking each other, but why? Because they hate Prophet (s). Those Muslims who are attacking and killing is from the hatred in their hearts, not for bringing light, they are bringing darkness! There is nothing left from Islam except its name! We don't even know how to describe Islam to non-Muslims who want to understand; they hear the name ‘Islam’ and it is becoming a monster because of that hatred some Muslims are showing. We are in the Signs of the Last Days and Awliyaullah anticipate more information in Rajab. Don't think Awliyaullah are sleeping like us; when they sleep they make sajda under the `Arsh for the whole Ummah! In every step they take, they are worried and afraid about this: nothing will be left of the Qur'an except calligraphy.
Lectures and lectures and lectures are not going to benefit, the matter is decided and nothing will be left of the Qur'an except calligraphy. Now, who is reading Qur'an, who is acting according to Qur'an? What they are proud of is calligraphy, is it not? They draw the verses, but do they know their meaning? What kind of knowledge is in every verse in Holy Qur'an? If you have makhaafatullah, fear of Allah, He will open and give diamonds to those who deserve it, and give candies to those who don't deserve the diamonds but who love Muslims. Mu'mins get the jewels. Awliyaullah are not like us, as Shaykh Tariq just said, which is 100% true, “Prophet is hayyun tarriyyun fee qabrihi, fresh, alive in his grave.”
I am alive and fresh in my grave. (Abu Dawood)
Does the Ummah now know more than Imam Suyuti? No. Scholars are not the same as previous scholars, because Prophet (s) said:
Abu Hurayrah (r) narrated that the Prophet (s) said:
لا تقوم الساعة حتى يُقبض العلم، وتكثرَ الزلازل، ويتقاربَ الزمان، وتظهرَ الفتن، ويكثرَ الهرج، وهو القتل، وحتى يكثرَ فيكم المال فيفيض
The Hour will not arise until knowledge is lifted, earthquakes are many, time contracts, chaos is manifest, killing is prevalent, and until there is so much money it spills everywhere. (Bukhari)
He (s) said scholars will die and there will be no substitute, so never think scholars today are better than the ones before, no way. Imam Suyuti said in his tafseer that Allah (swt) sends the soul of Prophet (s) to respond every time we give salawaat, meaning his soul is in his body 24 hours a day, always! Do you know why Awliyaullah cry and fear Allah (swt)? Not for themselves, but for the Ummah, because anyone who disrespects Prophet (s) and denies that he is alive in his grave will be punished in Akhirah! Allah will forgive everyone, say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” and Allah will forgive you, but He will not forgive speaking against Prophet (s)! If you speak badly about Allah, Allah will forgive you, but He doesn't like anyone to speak badly about Prophet (s) as He raised him, He gave him Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adna, He ordered angels and humans and jinn to make salawaat on him! He says that anyone who has life in his heart has the responsibility to make salawaat on him (s), even trees, stones and animals! Everyone has to make salawaat on Prophet (s) because it is ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,’ Prophet’s name is with His Name, finished! No one can subtract ‘Muhammadun Rasoolullah.’ Whatever they are explaining is going in this ear and out the other ear, one ear hears it and one ear lets it out, people aspire only to get diplomas to show others that they are fuqaha or `ulama.
Above every knower is a (higher) knower. (Surah Yusuf, 12:76)
Allah gave awliya special knowledge, but not like those before. Imam Nawawi was around 50 years old when he died and he wrote 120 titles, all of them written in volumes: ten, volumes, five volumes, twenty volumes. Where can you find `ulama like that now? Say to the one who claims he knows some `ilm that yes, he knows something, but many things are hidden from him. Allah is saying, “I did not give you except a little bit of knowledge.”
(O Mankind!) Of knowledge, only a little is communicated to you. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:85)
“A little bit” means micro, dharra. Allah (swt) is saying, “I did not give you `ilm, whatever you got from knowledge is only qaleela.” What is qaleel? Katheer means “too much”, qaleel means “too little,” that your knowledge is gone; a moment is coming in which knowledge cannot be seen anymore, wait and you will see.
So what does Allah want from us, to pray? Yes, it is our obligation, and to say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” and to keep doing sajda, but even if you made until Day of Judgement you will not give Allah His right even if you do all ‘ibaadah from Adam (a) until the end, it will not be enough to bring everyone to Paradise. We may come to Paradise only by The One Who put ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadur Rasoolullah’ on the Scale on the Day of Judgement to make it outweigh our sins. When Allah (swt) judges the Ummah, the name “Muhammad” (s) and his Intercession is enough to send the whole Ummah to Paradise. Who knows, He might send all human beings to Paradise! Allah (swt) gave him shafa'ah. Now what do you want to do? Anyone who did an atom of good will see goodness, and anyone who did an atom of bad will see badness, then Allah will say, “I judged. Now Muhammad, I am giving you shafa`ah, so do what you want.”
Awliyaullah try to dive into this knowledge, it is not easy knowledge. If you dive in the meaning of Intercession, dunya cannot carry you. What kind of Intercession, what kind of du`a will Prophet (s) make that Allah (swt) will accept? Did we think about it? What Arabic language will be given to his tongue to recite in sajda to Allah (swt) on the Day of Judgement? When Allah gives Intercession, Prophet (s) goes into sajda. What will he recite there that Allah will say, “Yaa Muhammad, raise your head and you will be given!” Allah will be happy with what the Prophet (s) mentions. What kind of du`a? It is completely different from the du`as we read. Bring all of them and it will be completely different, it will be like a drop from the ocean. All du`as the Ummah knows is like a drop from the ocean. That ocean of dua'a, that no one knows how it will open, secrets come from it that Allah will be happy with the judgement of Prophet (s) and Intercession to send people to Paradise.
Today, you have that opening of the masjid (Turkish Islamic Center in Washington DC), it was crowded and the President of Turkey was here. People pushed each other to stand near him as then they will be honored, that is what they think. What about standing near Prophet (s)? What about standing near other Prophets (a)? What about standing near Awliyaullah?
No, they live, finding their sustenance provided in the Presence of their Lord. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:169)
That ayah is not only for those in their graves, it is also for those `ulama who didn’t die yet: “ahyaa`” means their hearts are alive and diving in the Oceans of Allah’s Knowledge. When they dive in that, Allah (swt) grants them that level of happiness and gives them hayaat, life, which can be given in dunya and Akhirah. Awliyaullah are on that bridge between dunya and Akhirah and hayaat: for them, on that bridge they are living to reach Akhirah, which is full of Knowledge.
But what do we need to have for all that has been said now? We must have makhaafatullah, as Sayyidina `Ali (r) said. Today we see that Islam is only a name to people: some of them accept and some of them deny it. It’s like if you want someone to look bad, you call him “Muslim!” It is an honor for us, but it’s becoming like a monster for them. It's what the Prophet (s) said: “Nothing will be left of Islam but its name.” [Hadith cited on page 3.]
People are running after others, backbiting and making fitna for what? Look at yourself and how dirty you are! Can anyone say they are not dirty? All of us are dirty. If there is dirt on this prayer rug, you shake it, clean it, then pray on it. We are like that. We have dirt in our belief and faith, ee accumulated dirt there. How can you complain and speak bad about other people? `Alayka bi-nafsik, “Look at yourself,” clean yourself, don't speak about others!
The Sahaabah (r) asked the Prophet (s):
هل المؤمن يسرق؟ قال ربما. هل المؤمن يزني؟ قال ربما. هل المؤمن يكذب؟ قال لا.
“Does the Believer steal?” “Maybe,” he said. “Does the Believer commit adultery?” “Maybe,” he said. “Does the Believer lie? “No,” he said. (Ghazali, Ihya `Uloom ad-Din)
Why are you spreading rumors for nothing? You are making your heart dead and dirty, more and more, when you follow the weaknesses of human beings, other people that you know. There is weakness in every society and group of people. All of us are weak: no one can claim he is something, not even a president or a king. No one, in front of Allah, is anything, even Prophets, except Prophet (s), all of them need help, the help of Prophet (s). No one can claim that he is not weak, we all make mistakes and follow mistakes of others. No one is clean. When you repeat others’ mistakes (such as backbiting and spreading rumors), you take their sins on you and all your hasanaat goes to the abused person. If I say something bad about Dr Tarek, all my hasanaat go to him, and all his bad deeds come to me!
Be happy, let people speak about us! The whole world is now becoming Sufi--those who were against Sufis yesterday, are now on mimbars speaking about Sufism--they are chameleons, munaafiqeen (hypocrites). Sayyidina Abu Yazid al-Bistami (q) asked Allah (swt), “Yaa Rabbee,” when they dumped him in the garbage dump, it’s a long story, they thought he had done something wrong and the children stoned him until they thought he had died, his munajaat when they dumped him in the garbage dump was, “Yaa Rabbee, I wish you would give me my life back, and I wish they would come and kill me until I am dead, then you bring my soul back, and they come another time, and then you bring my life back, and so on in order that every time they kill me, I will make du`a for their happiness. I will take their burden.” These are Awliyaullah.
One of his miracles, in his biography, mentions once when he was in Hajj he was able to hold Baab al-multazam, he held the chain and he said, “Yaa Rabbee”, I am quoting it as Grandshaykh (q) narrated it, he said, “I am asking in my munajaat to you, to give me permission so that I can hold Iblees from running after your servants, and let everyone enjoy, I can stop them from running, stop humanity from running to the evil of Satan.” He felt power coming to him that he would be able to protect humanity from the evil of Satan.
He heard a Voice coming, “Have adab, yaa Aba Yazid, not to interfere in My Will. I let Iblees run after them. Raise your head and look at My Oceans of Mercy, My Beautiful Names ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem, I am The Merciful and I prepared that Ocean of Mercy for them. They make mistakes and say, ‘astaghfirullah’, then they will go to that Ocean of Rahmah. Don't interfere in My Will.” Today everyone is interfering in Allah's Will and doing lots of crazy things that no one can understand, thinking how to make the name of Islam good. It is not your job! Allah's Will is like that, because these are Signs of the Last Days, we are in it now, no one can run from it, as Ibn Mas`ud (r) said:
سيأتي عليكم زمان لو وجد أحدكم الموت يباع لاشتراه
A time will come upon you when if one of you finds death being sold, he will buy it.
Wherever you turn your face now there is a problem. Sayyidina Hasan (r) reported that the Prophet (s) said to his Companions (r):
أَنْتُمْ فِي زَمَانٍ مَنْ تَرَكَ عُشْرَ مَا أُمِرَ بِهِ هَلَكَ ، وَسَيَأْتِي عَلَيْكُمْ زَمَانٌ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِعُشْرِ مَا أُمِرَ بِهِ نَجَا
You are in a time when if people leave ten-percent of what they were commanded to do they will perish, but there will come a time when if people perform ten-percent of what they were commanded to do they will be saved. (Tabarani)
May Allah (swt) save us! We forgive everyone, but if anyone speaks about us in any way [that is untrue] we will not let them succeed. Awliya will cut their tongues! We are people that are supported, we are not coming from a playground! We are people that spend our lives with Awliya and scholars everywhere. Tasawwuf is to teach us good behaviour. Fiqh is to know how to pray and fast, which everyone knows, but how to change yourself into a person with good manners? Even if it [rumors] is true, would you like anyone to expose your family? Do you not think about the kind of sins you are falling in today? People are deaf, dumb and blind, they don’t know what they are saying and why, they are like:
إذا التقى المسلمان بسيفيهما، فالقاتل والمقتول في النار. فقيل: يا رسول الله هذا القاتل، فما بال المقتول؟! قال: إنه كان حريصاً على قتل صاحبه
The Prophet (s) said, “If two Muslims meet each other with swords, then the one that killed and the one that was killed are in the fire.” It was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, this is for the one that killed, but why for the one who was killed?” He said, “He was trying to kill his companion.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
So don't raise issues, that will come against you!
O you who believe! If a corrupt person comes to you with something wrong, ascertain the truth unless you harm people unwittingly and afterwards become full of repentance for what you have done.
(Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:6)
Don't put your gossip on every door! O Believers, avoid doubt!
O you who believe! Avoid much doubt as indeed some doubt is sinful, and do not spy on each other or backbite against each other. Do any of you wish to eat the dead flesh of his brother? Indeed you would hate it. Beware of Allah. Allah is The Most-Repentant, The All-Merciful. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:12)
Most of your doubts are wrong, so why do you want to burn your fingers? Should we go to mosques and Muslim schools to backbite? In that case, don't go! In general, this is what the whole Ummah is doing these days. Siblings are fighting each other and Allah (swt) doesn't like that. What is the benefit of ‘ulama? I feel bad for them because they give advice, people listen to it but then they lose it, their behavior becomes something different, so why lose it? Avoid backbiting! If your father is backbiting, say, “I don't want to listen.” If your husband is backbiting, go out. Anyone backbiting, don't listen to it or then you take the sin, because whether it is correct or wrong information, you have no right to expose anything. Allah (swt) is As-Sattar: He veils, you are exposing what Allah (swt) veiled, so why would you expose anyone? Whether it is true or false, you get punishment because you have no right to expose. Everyone, not ninety percent, but ninety-nine percent of humanity is backbiting! Awliya don't, they are the one percent. The ninety-nine percent are falling into the traps of Shaytan. How much do we have to learn?
Allah (swt) mentioned about the hypocrite:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِن جَاءكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَأٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَن تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَى مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ
O you who believe! If a corrupt person comes to you with something wrong, ascertain the truth unless you harm people unwittingly and afterwards become full of repentance for what you have done. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:6)
He called him ‘fasiq,’ who exposes things and spreads rumors, the lowest bad person. He didn't say, ‘in jaa'akum rajulun,’ He said, ‘If he comes to you with any gossip he is a faasiq, so stop him, fa-tabayyinoo, check it.’
If you don't want to stop it, check it before you make any decisions. This is what Allah (swt) is saying. That's why Sayyidina `Ali (r) said, “Everything is based one point: makhaafatullah, fear of Allah.”
They are ruining the name of Islam by killing. I saw one with a tree saw and two people handcuffed, someone was holding their heads, and he cut off their heads with the saw. How do they do that? What religion is that? Those people are proud of themselves, but still backbiters are even worse, they are the lowest, because their fitna is like poison. A snake entered Paradise and whispered in Adam’s (a) mind. There are snakes that entered communities to poison them about others. Even if you made their lives happy and easy, and advised them for many years, for no reason they backbite you, your family and children, and they are proud of that! They are in the lowest place in Hellfire because the Prophet (s) said, “The Believer does not lie.” When you listen to that gossip, you are also a liar because you are listening to lies, so don't listen!
He says to his Companion, “Don’t be sad for, indeed, Allah is with us.” (Surat at-Tawbah, 9:40
We say, “We are with Allah (swt).” Whenever you have a problem leave it for Akhirah, don't argue with it, because Allah (swt) when he punishes, He punishes everyone, we want to run away from the punishment.
Once Sayyidina Musa (a) asked Allah (swt) to show him His Justice. Allah (swt) said, “Go to a certain place and stay there, you will see My Justice.”
Musa (a) prayed and then sat. A blind man came, prayed two raka'ats and left, but dropped his wallet, his money. After a while another man came, stopped his horse and rested a little, and then he saw the wallet and thought, “To whom should I give it?” and he took it. A third man came and prayed two raka’ats. The first one came back to find his wallet, but the man who had taken it was gone; instead he found the third man sitting there and he said, “You took my wallet!”
That man answered, “No, I didn’t see any wallet!”
The first man again accused him, “You took it!” and then he killed him.
Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “This is not justice!” Allah (swt) said, “Yaa Musa (a), the one who wrongly killed that one whom he thought took the wallet, an innocent man, I rendered the punishment to him.” Allah's judgement is in different ways.
Musa (a) said to Him, “Why when You punish someone do You punish the whole village? You send hurricanes and earthquakes and You destroy all of it.
He said, “Yaa Musa, go to the jungle and I will show you.” Allah (swt) ordered ants to go on his leg and Allah (swt) ordered one of them to bite him, then Musa (a) pressed and killed all the ants. He heard a voice, “Yaa Musa (a), what happened, why did you kill all of them?” He replied, “It was painful, I had to squeeze my leg to get the pain to go away.” Allah’s justice is swift, and He replied, “It is the same as you killing all of the ants! For one person who does wrong, I take everyone.” That’s why Prophet (s) asked Allah not to punish people by fire, earthquake or drowning. Allah said, “I will punish Ummat an-Nabi.
by keeping them continuously fighting each other.”
May Allah (swt) forgive us and may Allah turn the coming holy days of Rajabun Shahrullah, the month of Allah; Sha`ban, the month of Prophet (s); and Ramadan, the month of the Ummah, these three months barakah for all Muslims around the world and guide those who like us as well as those who hate and belittle the Prophet (s). I don’t understand it, Awliyaullah are stunned by it, astonished, why their hearts are so sore against Prophet (s). May Allah forgive us.
Bi hurmati ‘l-habeeb bi hurmati ‘l-Fatihah.
