A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,
nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.
Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een.
Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin ‘il-faatihi limaa ughliqa wa 'l-khaatimi limaa sabaqa wa 'n-naasiri 'l-haqqi bi 'l-haqqi wa 'l-haadi ilaa siraatika 'l-mustaqeema sall 'Llahu `alayhi wa `alaa aalihi wa-ashaabihi haqqa qadrihi wa miqdaarihi 'l-`azheem.
Glory be to The One Who does not die! All of us are on the way to death, wa inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`oon, and may Allah (swt) grant us to be carried to the blessed grave of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) (after our death). We hope that Allah (swt) will move us through his angels from where we have been buried to be near the Prophet (s) where he is buried in dunya, in Barzakh and in Akhirah.
We have to take signs and we have to learn lessons from what happened around us. Today I was coming to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and they said, “Someone died.” And who was that one? Who never thinks that he will die? He was a pious person. Everyone thinks that he is going to live forever and everyone wishes to live forever, but no one is going to live forever. So this person who might feel that he is the strong one, the powerful one, never can the Angel of Death come to him.
وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ
Wa maa tadree nafsun bi ayyi ardin tamoot.
And no soul perceives in what land it will die. (Surat Luqmaan, 31:34)
No one knows where he or she is going to be buried, and this is a big responsibility and you don't know who is going to pray on you Salaat al-Janaza. But from rahmatillah, wherever you die, Allah (swt) arranges angels that Grandshaykh `AbdAllah, may Allah bless his soul, was always asking, “Yaa Rabbee! Grant my followers that wherever they die to be moved to Damascus, Sham.” And wherever they die, angels pray Salaat al-Janaza on them and carry that janaza to Jabal Qasiyoun or near the Family of the Prophet (s), where they are buried in Sham; all Naqshbandis have been moved there.
It is said that Muslims will bite on their fingers and regret if they didn't have space to be buried in Sham, Damascus, due to missing the heavenly manifestation that is coming down 24 hours a day in Damascus, because of fadaa'ilu ash-shaam laa ta`ud wa laa tuhsaa, the favors that Allah gave to the people of Sham and to Sham itself have no limit and cannot be counted. And the Prophet (s) has mentioned more than 100 hadith on the importance of Sham, because in Sham the Family of the Prophet (s) was buried and Sham is where `Arsh ar-Rahman will be located on Yawm al-Mahshar, the Day of Resurrection, where Allah will judge between people; that will be in Sham.
Allah (swt) will expand that area to cover the whole universe if necessary and that land will expand to include everyone inside it! So anyone who has one handspan that he can put his feet in Sham in dunya, he will be in Akhirah under the tajalli of Sham that Allah (swt) sends every twenty-four hours, on Sham. Anyone having even one handspan piece of land there will be dressed with the anwaar, Divine Lights of Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes.
Du`a al-awliya mustajaab, the du`a of awliyaullah is accepted by Allah (swt), and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said to me one time, “Cyprus is considered part of Sham and the tajalli of Sham is also the same coming down in Cyprus.” Therefore, whoever is in Cyprus is as if he is in Sham, and the same lights and tajalli descend on Cyprus as in Sham.
One time Sultan al-Awliya, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), told me that the manifestation, the tajalli that comes down on Sham, with the du`a of awliyaullah Allah (swt) accepts, as He said:
ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ
Idoo`nee astajib lakum.
Call on Me, I will answer you. (Surah Ghafir, 40:60)
It means, “Whatever du`a you make I accept.” So say, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasooluh.” Is He accepting or not? Inshaa-Allah, He accepts with saying, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasooluh.” How would He not accept? And He is The One Who ordered, “Come and ask,” and “Come, I am accepting,” “Come to the Garden of Paradise, I am putting you there.”
So from Sham, part of that tajalli comes to Cyprus. Why? Because Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) made munajaat: he begged, he approached the Prophet's presence to take that du`a to the Divine Presence, to Allah's Presence, and that turns Cyprus on the same tajalli that comes on Sham as long as he is here. If he leaves, it goes where he goes. If he leaves to Sham, it is from there originally, but as long as he is here, that tajalli is here. And why? He said that he knew ahead of time that there are going to be problems in Damascus and no one could stay there, so he requested that tajalli of Sham to be here so that everyone who is coming here from every part of the world can benefit from it. He requested that in order that everyone coming here who cannot go to Sham now will be dressed as if he is in Sham, and when he goes back after his visit, he is carrying that tajalli, that manifestation, and wherever he goes and people see him, he will be a reflection of those tajalli on that person and from that person to another person!
Awliyaullah put a light that cannot be extinguished, it cannot be put down. So that light is in the hearts of their followers. Every wali has his own light that Allah gives to him and there are 124,000 awliya and we believe our shaykh is Sultan al-Awliya and some other people, other groups different than Naqshbandi, feel their shaykh is Sultan al-Awliya. We respect them, as the awliyaullah respect each other. We are speaking here about Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani, may Allah grant him long life, and his request was, “Any mureed that comes to me and sits for 24 hours, it is enough to carry the tajalli of Sham, and when he leaves he will carry that and it will be reflected, just as in a hall with many mirrors, you see hundreds or thousands of reflections of yourself.
المؤمن مرآة أخيه
Al-mu’min mi'rraat akheehi.
The believer is the mirror of his brother (or sister).
So everything is reflected in you; they use the power of reflection that goes at the speed of light, 300,000 kilometers per second, and that goes out from you and it moves to other people. Don't think that is too much, there is even more! And the proof of that is very simple. Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) is in Baghdad, and although he is in Baghdad, in every part of the world there are Qadiri followers. How does that noor reach them? The light of Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) is sent from him to all his mureeds. And similarly in the Naqshbandi Order, as the Qadiri Order, how do you see these Naqshbandi followers in the Far East and in every part of the world, if that light is not moving? How do you find these Naqshbandis from Indonesia?
I will tell you a story and you will be amazed. There were 95 centers, and I just spoke with Gibril Haddad, who said that there are now over 134 centers, so correct your information. And the story was, I was supposed to go with the previous vice president of Indonesia to visit Aceh. It was 25th December, how many years ago? In 2004. I was supposed to go with him in his airplane to Aceh as there was a problem between the government and separatists, and before we were going, he said, “We were invited to a wedding.” Do you remember the wedding of Budi, and I was sitting at the table with the vice president and he received a call? This was before 25th December. There was a negotiation going on between the separatists and the government in Sweden and a phone call came; they had refused to sign and there was a problem and he told me immediately there is this problem.
I told him, “Tell him it is coming to my heart from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) to say this, ‘Recite seven times Surat Yaseen and inshaa-Allah that will work.’”
He immediately called his people in Sweden and told them stop everything and recite seven Surat Yaseen and five minutes later the separatists came and signed the agreement! Two or three days later, he was supposed to go to Aceh and wanted me to join him.
I said, “No, I cannot join you, I am going to Singapore.”
He said, “No, no, you cannot go! I will take your passport (jokingly),” and he said, “If you are not going, I am not going,” and he canceled his trip. I went to Singapore and he stayed home, and that day the tsunami hit Aceh!
I said, “Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) doesn't allow me to go to Aceh with you. You go if you want to.” He said, “No, if you don't go, I don't go.”
I said, “I am going to Singapore because in my heart, Mawlana rejects me to go there.”
And why have I brought that story? I never brought that story before, but to show that the reflection of himaya reaches even the Far East. The power of awliyaullah like Sultan al-Awliya, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani (q) can reach far away! He is not just sitting here, but his power and his connection is to each mureeds with the power he is taking from the Prophet (s)! With it he can reach everyone!
For all awliyaullah, there is no limitation on their power, so he saved me. First, he told me through my heart, “Tell him to recite Surah Yaseen.” Do you believe he told his whole delegation to leave what they were doing and come together and sit and recite seven Surah Yaseen? That is not easy for a vice president to sit and listen to a nobody. And Mawlana stopped the war and he saved me from the tsunami, and he is in the presence of the Prophet (s)! And Allah honored them, the Prophet (s) honored them; when they say something, Allah honors them and the Prophet (s) honors them.
There was one place in Aceh where they were doing Naqshbandi dhikr and there was one person there who is representing Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), and the whole city was underwater, the event that everyone saw on TV, and that one masjid was not underwater, and that is the one where they are doing the Naqshbandi dhikr. (Allahu Akbar!) You saw that masjid on TV? Yes, the wooden one [Masjid Bayt ar-Rahman]. Because they were doing Naqshbandi dhikr there and mentioning the name of the Prophet (s) and the Naqshbandi silsila, and that structure is still there. And the Naqshbandis there, none of them died. Did you know that? We began dhikr in that masjid in Aceh. SubhaanAllah!
Awliyaullah, how far their power reaches? This is a reflection of their power. You see them here, but how many different reflections do they send everywhere? We have to take ibra from their power.
So we began this lecture with the mention of the person who thinks he will never die. No one can think that. No, that person thinks so. Everyone of you know him, and you are all in need of him, the gravedigger, and he puts the body inside and he is outside it. Hafar al-quboor, the gravedigger thinks he is not going to die. This is an example for us, not that he is a bad person; no, he is helping people, but you can take a sign.
So I asked, “How old is he?” I thought he might be 80, 90, 70, because always the gravedigger is that age.
They said, “No, he is 45 and he had two graves to dig and he died.” Today he died, inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`oon. So everything goes back to Allah. And the Prophet (s) said, “Adnoo shayaateenakum - exhaust your shaytans!” We will explain this tomorrow.
Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatiha.
