Laylat al-Raghayb
Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-'Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu 'alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa 'alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma'een.
Alhamdulillah al-ladhee sharafanaa bi Rajab mubarak. Allah has blessed us with the month of Rajab and we hope He will open for us to be blessed in Sha`baan. We are asking and requesting that Allah in these three months opens for us from what He opened to all Awliyaullah and from there to the Prophet (s).
The tongue is helpless and speechless, it cannot express what is inside the heart, so the poet to express writes poetry, but there is another poetry that works on the heart: how Awliyaullah attracted people to them. This is an important night, it is the night of Jumu`ah, Thursday evening, when the Prophet (s) passed from his father to his mother. If that had not happened, there would be no religion (Islam), but Allah wants as He said in Holy Qur’an:
إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللّهِ الإِسْلاَمُُ
The religion in Allah’s view is Islam (submission to His Will). (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:19)
He wanted Islam to be known and to act upon it and we ask Allah to keep us on the way of Shari`ah and on the way of Tariqah and on the way of Haqiqah, and on the way of Ma`rifah and on the way of Azheema, to keep us going on the right highway, not taking the exits. We are celebrating that event of the heavenly appearance of the Prophet (s) being given to his mother Amina, `alayha ‘s-salaam, to bring him to dunya. She was the waseela, what a great honor! She carried the Most Perfect; actually, there is no ‘most perfect,’ he (s) is The Perfect One, everyone else is on their levels. Allah blessed her to carry that appearance of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and chose her from among all His Creation, and she was the best of Creation for that ‘job’. May Allah bless us from what she has been blessed. Anta Sami`ana, Anta Nadhiroona adhkhilnaa yaa Rabbee fee bahri habeebika Mustafa O Allah! You are hearing us and seeing us and listening to us! Take us into the ocean of Your Prophet (s) to dive in it in dunya and in Akhirah, to dive in Jannah.
Why we are coming here? There is no business here, only here is a place where we sit together and make dhikrullah, especially on this night. We are happy, yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah, and you know all of us sitting here one by one, by name and age, and what we are doing, and you (s) present everyone clean in the Divine Presence!
وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ
My Mercy embraces all things. (Surat al-A`raaf, 7:156)
The Mercy is Sayyidina Muammad (s)! It means he has encompassed everything, wa rahmatee wasi`at kulla shay, “My Mercy contained every thing.” Every atom, everyone, every place, every environment, Allah's Mercy is coming and going to every small particle seen or not seen. Allah’s Rahmah is reaching them by His order. Yaa Sayyidi, yaa Rasoolullah! nasal'Allahu an taj`alana `ala attareeqa as-saheeha fa la tarudana khaibeen. warhamna bi rahmatika nahnoo `ibaad ajizeen la narju minna khayr an-Nabi (s), Saahib al-Khayrat wa huwa Abu ‘l-Qasim alladhee yuqassim al-khayraat! Prophet (s) is The Divider who divides to everyone what they deserve. Allah called him Abu ‘l-Qasim, after one of his children; Abu ‘l-Qasim is the father of the One Who Divides everything to people.
Allah (swt) said in the time of Sayyidina Musa (a) when he was going to Tur Sina (Mount Sinai), his neighbor said to him, “You are Kaleemullah, you speak to Allah always, so when you reach there ask from Him, ‘My neighbor needs love to You, yaa Allah.’” He considered his love was nothing, he wanted divine love, as he said, ‘Mahaabatullah.’ “When you go there, don't forget me.”
Sayyidina Musa (a) went to Tur Sina to speak with His Lord; how he speaks we don't know, but Allah sends a message and he receives the answer. He asked many question for himself and Bani Isra’eel, and he received many answers. When he left without asking on behalf of his neighbor, Allah called to him, “Yaa `abdee, O My servant! What about the question your neighbor asked, to send him Mahaabatullah? Don't you feel bad that you neglected to get an answer for him when you came all this way to speak with Me?”
Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “Yaa Rabbee, I forgot.”
He is a Nabi (s) and he forgot, although Prophet (s) never forgot anything; however, Iraadatullah. It is Allah’s Will for this story to benefit us and everything that happened in Islam is to benefit Muslims and the Ummah, all Creation.
Allah said, “What did he ask you?” Look how He is so patient with Sayyidina Musa (as), as-Saboor, Allah is The Most Patient, asking and listening to him.
Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “Yaa Rabbee, I apologize.”
Sayyidina Musa had departed, so Allah (swt) said, “You can tell me from where you are (no need to return up the mountain).” That came to his heart from Revelations.
Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “Yaa Rabbee, that person wants dharra min al-imaan, he chose the smallest thing possible,” an atom, epsilon or quark; in Arabic, ‘dharrah’ is the small ant you cannot see with your eyes, but they are a complete animal with eyes, mouth, teeth, head and abdomen. “He is asking that You send him the smallest possible dharrah of iman, faith.”
Allah revealed to him, “I sent that to him, let him enjoy. I love My servants who ask Me.”
If you ask Him in such holy nights Allah will give, and if we ask Him in other nights Allah will give. So ask Him always, be persistent, ask and ask, and ask, even you don't get an answer, continue to ask, because He said, “Ask Me, I will respond to you!”
ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ
Call on Me, I will answer you. (Surah Ghafir, 40:60)
So Sayyidina Musa (a) knocked on his neighbor’s door, but no one answered; again he knocked and no one answered, then he pushed the door open and entered. He saw the man in a state that no one can understand.
He said, “Yaa Rabbee, what did you do to him?”
Allah said, “Yaa Sayyidina Musa (a), he asked one dharrah min al-imaan, which was too much for him. I only gave him dharrah of the dharrah,” which means no microscope of today, even digital, can find it. “I gave him that one. Tell him!”
He said, “Yaa Rabb, how can I tell him? He is sitting like that, raising his hands. I push hi--no answer!”
Allah said, “Yaa Musa, if you stay pushing him from now to the end of the world he is not going to answer, he is in Bahru ‘l-Imaan, the Ocean of Faith, and what I gave him is a dharrah of a dharrah of faith! He will never respond until the Day of Judgment, so leave him alone.”
That is why when Allah wants to send, all of us will be running in the jungle. This is dunya, which also has its job to do, what Allah wants it to do it is doing, so don't object on many things in your life. So when he asked that, Allah pulled him from dunya and put him in the heavenly Ocean of Mercy that has been blessed, that no one can enter it but the Prophet (s), huwa ‘l-Qaasim.
That is not easy. Allah wants everyone to get benefit so He sends, but in a way that He gives something in dunya but 99.9999% He leaves for Akhirah. Don't say, “I am not getting anything.” No! He said, wa rahmatee wasi`at kulla shay. People say, “I am making du`a and not getting this job and that, I have difficulty.” Yes, but look what He is going to give you in Akhirah, and don't say, “I did not get, I made du`a and there is no response.” Id`oonee astajib lakum. Id`oonee, “Invite Me”, Allah is saying in the Holy Qur’an, id`oonee is also “invite”, Arabs know, it means, “Don't leave me behind, let me be the first.”
Sayyidina Ya`qoob (a) was punished, astaghfirullah, feeling that heavy affliction that he lost his son Yusuf (a), because of what? Because he did not make a da`wah for Allah (swt). Do you understand what is ‘da`wah’? To invite his Lord, to “invite”. We are inviting Allah's Mercy. There are two meanings here: d`wah is as you said, to invite people, but the other da`wah is to present an invitation to come to you. Id`oonee, “Invite Me to your heart.” Sayyidina Ya`qoob (a) invited his son Yusuf to his heart. Allah doesn’t care for anything. He said to Sayyidina Ya`qoob (a), “That is because you put two inside your heart, while your heart is for one, for Me only, not anyone else! You put Yusuf there.”
So Allah sent Yusuf away: for thirty-seven years he was in prison and afterward, during seven years of drought he did not see his father, so for forty-four years Allah did not return his son to him.
Look at the level of iman Allah gave to Sayyidina Musa’s neighbor, that he made him dive in the Ocean of Faith, and look at our iman. That neighbor completely did not care for dunya; his body was here but his soul was in Paradise, and therefore, he was not going to respond. Some people come with their children who are diagnosed with a new interpretation of Autism. Their tongues are frozen from speaking because Allah gave them some kind of knowledge (that must not be revealed). They live in families around the world to spread His Mercy everywhere. Those children will be rewarded in Akhirah, because they were like that in dunya. So we are like that, all of us are (spiritually) autistic, no exceptions.
Sayyidina Musa, Sayyidina Ya`qoob and all prophets (alayhimu ‘s-salaam) knew that Reality and that is why the Prophet (s) said:
عن ابى سعيد الخدرى ادم فمن دونه تحت لوائى يوم القيامة ولا فخر
Adam (and who is below Adam) will be under my flag, under my shafa`ah on the Day of Judgment, and I say it without pride. (Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)
So you have to invite, to welcome someone. Who is the best to welcome? Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! Is it not appropriate to call him in this night? Of course! Is it not appropriate to understand that Allah said in Holy Qur'an:
قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat Aali-'Imraan, 3:31)
The Du`a of Rajab explains what we have already said and inspires that first we must know Allah is Merciful, and He is The Forgiver, Who forgives if He wants, which is one of the highest levels. Also, He will punish everyone if He wants, not because He loves punishment, but to bring people back on the right track, as Allah (swt) said, “We don’t send the ayahs of Holy Qur'an except to make people fearful.”
َمَا نُرْسِلُ بِالآيَاتِ إِلاَّ تَخْوِيفًا
We only send the Signs by way of terror (and warning from evil). (Surat al-Israa, 17:59)
Grandshaykh `AbdAllah, may Allah bless his soul, said in the Holy Qur’an every word that mentions punishment, as soon as we read it Allah will throw the punishment away, because Holy Qur'an is Allah’s Ancient Words.
There was a thief, burglar in the time of Prophet (s) who didn’t spare anyone from his evil doing, he came against everyone. All year he went on the tracks, hid himself behind trees and rocks, and when people came he robbed them. He became known as the worst person in the entire community. He was very clever, bus as we said, Allah’s Mercy is vast.
One day after many years of this, Jibreel (a) came to Prophet (s) and said, “Allah sends His salaam to you and said to tell you that a big Wali died today, and He wants you to wash him, dress him in the kaffan (shroud), pray on him and bury him.”
Sayyidina Abu Bakr Sideeq (r) asked, “Who is that Wali?”
Prophet (s) said, “Yaa Abu Bakr, that one who is stealing and fighting!”
Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) said, “An evildoer became a Wali?”
Prophet (s) said, “Like you, I am astonished, but this is Allah’s Order and I am happy for Allah’s Mercy! Let’s see what happened.” ”
There was no response until Wahiyy came. That thief had done all kinds of bad things.
As they were walking, Abu Bakr (r) saw the Prophet (s) walking on his tiptoes and said, “I have never seen you walking like this!”
Prophet (s) said, “Yaa Abu Bakr, there is no place to even put your finger as so many angels are filling the place! They are with that funeral!”
When Allah wants a thing, who can say no? He makes the bad one a good one, is it not? Qadir Muqtadir, yaa Allah! The Prophet (s) asked the Sahaabah (r) about that Wali and they said he had one daughter who lived with him, who cooked and served him.
He (s) said, “Call his daughter.” They called her and she came and Prophet (s), who asked her, “Can you tell us about your father?”
She said, “Yaa Rasoolullah! He was the biggest burglar, he did all bad things and didn’t spare anyone from harm.”
Prophet (s) said, “Did he do anything special?
She said, “There is a trunk in the house and when Rajab came he closed the whole house, he did not allow anyone to enter or exit for thirty day because, he said, “This is Rajabullah and I am khalwah, seclusion. He prayed day and night and made a specific du`a ”
Prophet (s) said, “Where is that du`a? Bring it.”
When she brought the du`a to Prophet (s), he took it, kissed it, and read it. Don’t say that Prophet (s) doesn’t know how to read and write! There is a big meaning there! Ummiyy has another meaning--how does he possess `Uloom al-Awwaleen wa ’l-Akhireen, the Knowledges of Before and After, if he doesn’t know how to read and write? How did Jibreel (a) say to him, “Iqra! Read!” if he doesn’t know how to read and write? He (s) is described as ‘ummiyy’ due to taraadu`an, humbleness, for no one to say that he is something high. He always preferred to hide himself.
She brought the du`a and we are going to read it tonight, following in the footsteps of Prophet (s), and we hope all those who are watching and listening to us, that all of us are under the banner of Rahmata ‘n-Nabi (s). I am from Ahlu ’s-Sunnah wa ’l-Jama`ah and I like to say that Prophet (s) is our savior, because he is the one that will take us to Allah’s Divine Presence on the Day of Judgement, after he intercedes on our behalf! Prophet (s) and every Sahaabi (r) read that du`a and it went from generation to generation until it reached everywhere and became a famous. After dhikrullah we will read it and then we make ziyaarah.
So if anyone asks you, be happy with the mercy Allah has sent on us: He sent Prophet (s). When someone completes his homework correctly and gets a ‘A’, he will be happy and jumping with joy because he did well, and both the teacher and student are happy. Allah is happy if we make one salawaat on Prophet (s). It will be corrected...how will it be corrected, is there mistake in it? No. It will be corrected because when the `abd says it, it is not pure because we have soup of sins and when it is coming from your mouth it has to pass through your body, so angels will either take it or throw it back on you, depending on the smell it comes out with, a nice smell or a bad smell. And just now, sorry to say it but Mawlana Shaykh Nazim just ordered me to say that anyone who smokes cigarettes, their every breath has a bad smell, and that is wrong and not accepted. Kulloo makroohin yuqtal aw kullo madhroohin yuqtal! Everything that harms must be eliminated. After 1400 years of the Prophet’s Message, now they are listening and telling people cigarettes are not good. In any case, how to protect the salawaat when it comes out? Every salawaat you make has a taste, a color, a level, a brain, and it understands what mercy Allah will dress you with, because you are sending it on Prophet (s):
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
(O Muhammad!) We have sent you not except as a Mercy for all the Worlds. (Surat al-Anbiyaa, 21:107)
“What We dressed you with, O Muhammad, We are dressing on those who make salawaat on you.” It means according to the tajalli of that moment you make salawaat, it has its own environment, its own gardens or rewards, and the second moment is a different time with a different tajalli. So when you recite salawaat on Prophet (s):
من صلى علي مرة صلى الله عليه بها عشرا
Whoever prays on me one time, Allah prays on him ten times. (Muslim)
This means Allah will raise you from that moment you made salawaat as if you made ten salawaat and every salawaat has its own level, its own reward and secret, and similarly the next salawaat has different level, taste, belief and knowledge. Awliyaullah see from the student’s mouth what kind of salawaat they are reciting and how it’s coming out. Don’t think they are blind! We are blind, they are not blind. So aktharoo salawaat, make salawaat on Prophet (s) as much as you can.
We cannot continue much longer as it is very late. May Allah bless us and all listeners and viewers. Inshaa-Allah we can touch on this important subject next time as it reveals a lot of secrets that Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) revealed in his time to many people. May Allah (swt) reveal more and more in every moment and send us mercy in every moment from the mercy of Prophet (s)!
Bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
This notebook of Grandshaykh `AbdAllah’s (q) is more than sixty years old years and it the Du`a of the Saint of Rajab. [Khatm al-Khawajagan.]
From the secret knowledge of Awliyaullah, Grandshaykh `AbdAllah and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said in this time, recently--not before--that Allah opened rahmah especially for the Ummah of Prophet(s), and from that mercy Awliyaullah were told that anyone who stands facing Qiblah praying any prayer and says, “Allahu Akbar!” when he enter the prayer, it is as if he performed Hajj. When you pray one prayer it is as if you performed one Hajj, and for five prayers a day Allah is rewarding Ummat an-Nabi with five Hajj. Allah opened that Tajalli to Ummatun an-Nabi (s) and when you perform Hajj all your sins disappear and you are newly born with no sins. So when you pray your five prayers, you will get five Hajj every day. That is very important for us to know that through Rahmat an-Nabi (s), Allah forgave us all our sins, as Prophet (s) said in Hadith Qudsi:
أَنَا جَلِيْسُ مَنْ ذَكَرَنِي
[Allah said to the Prophet], I sit with him who remembers Me. (Hadith Qudsi. Ahmad, Bayhaqi)
How will Allah sit with a dirty person? He will clean him and take away sins, to be a perfect, enlightened one. May Allah (swt) gaze at all of us and forgive us.
Bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
