Zhuhr Suhbah

A'oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Salaam 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-'Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu 'alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa 'alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma'een.

We say, “Alhamdulillah al-ladhee hadaanaa li ’l-islaam wa maa kunna li nahtadee law laa hadaanallah. Who made us Muslim?

Man is born upon fitra (innocence), but his parents make him a Jew, a Christian or a Magian. (Bukhari, Muslim)

Children have the light of Islam in their hearts and their parents either make them Jew or Christian or Zoroastrian. Already he is born on innocence on the light of imaan and slowly, slowly the light is covered by negative reflections of the parents and those who are around. The eye can destroy everything. When you look with a jealous or shirk eye, the child will be affected within the womb or even outside,as scientists have found there is an effect from the people around it.

Why does the baby cry when it is born? Because in the womb they see the DNA, what is written for them. Some babies are born with their eyes open. Allah’s Mercy is equal, He is just to everyone. When the child comes out he sees what kind of difficulty he is going to encounter. In the womb there are three zhulumat, seclusions that are completely separate from the parents’ action, when the baby receives that Tajalli of Rahmatullah to create him and bring him to life. For no other reason than to know Allah:

كنت كنزا مخفياً فأحببت أن أعرف فخلقت الخل

I was a Hidden Treasure (and) I wanted to be known, so I created Creation. (Hadith Qudsi)

That is why the shaykh will try to put the mureed in seclusion, in order to know his limits.

Who knows his self knows his Lord.

Who knows himself? You knew yourself, the child knows himself. Babies are in seclusion in the womb of their mothers where they can see what no one can see, hear what no one can hear. They are in that small house for nine months, which is why Awliya are ordered for seclusion for nine months. It is not easy; some are ordered for five years or more. Forty days is difficult, so what about six months?

In Rajab we are ordered to enter into seclusion for forty days up to Sha`aban, to know our blueprints, for what we have been created. That connects the time of your birth to the seclusion and that is the discovery time. As a child discovers herself in the womb of the mother, so the mureed discovers the self in seclusion, “And who knows himself knows his Lord.” Those are treasures you must discover. It depends on Allah's Mercy, our actions are what is wrong.

And Allah gave us many important days during the year. For what? To have mercy on us:

وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا لِلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ وَيُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَـاةَ وَالَّذِينَ هُم بِآيَاتِنَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

My mercy embraces all things, therefore I shall ordain it for those who ward off (evil) and pay the poor due, and those who believe Our Revelations. (Surat al-A`raaf, 7:156).

“My mercy encompasses all things.” That is why Iblees asked Sayyidina Musa (a), “Am I under that mercy? I am shay (a thing).” Allah cursed Iblees in the Holy Qur’an so we have to curse him, no doubt. We have to learn that Iblees asked Allah and Allah answered him, he asked Allah to let him live until Judgment Day and Allah allowed him. After ma`asiyya, the sin, how was he able to speak and how was he able to go speak to Sayyidina Adam (a)? How did he enter Paradise? He knows the way in and the way out. Two-thousand years before Sayyidina Adam (a) was created by Allah Iblees worshiped and made sajda in these huge Paradises. He was the head of the Angels, he knew the truth and came against it. He knew that the Prophet (s) is going to get Maqaam al-Mahmood but when the order came to do sajda he disobeyed. But he was in Paradise. When he was kicked out he came back and whispered to Sayyidina Adam (a) to disobey. How did he get into Paradise after being thrown out? There is a secret there. How did he get in?

“Who knows himself knows his Lord...” Khwaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q), one of the shaykhs of the Golden Naqshbandi Chain and also a mureed in other Tariqahs, had a mureed who was fed up with himself. One night then mureed started having inspirations and began to blame himself why he was in such doubt. It was the night of Laylat al-Qadr and Khwaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) had prayed Salaat al-`Isha with his mureeds and everyone had gone home to observe the Awraad. Usually they would close the mosque after `Isha but the mureed stayed in the mosque by himself. He spoke to himself, lamenting he’d done so many things wrong and did not obey or observe the shaykh's orders, saying, “If I am not correct with in I am saying, my marriage is not valid!”

That was a big weight he put on himself, but he was so sure he was the worst among the mureeds, that he was contagious and others affected by him, and that why the shaykh sent him to the forest and the desert away from the rest. This was a teaching from the shaykh. As he was saying this, he heard his shaykh laughing! Sayyidina Khwaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) hid himself in the masjid in order to hear the mureed, knowing what he would say. When the mureed said he was the worst of human beings with such certainty, `Ayn al-Yaqeen, `Ilm al-Yaqeen, Haqq al-Yaqeen, the Rawhanniyyat of Prophet (s) appeared and told the shaykh, “Give him his Trust.” The shaykh is responsible to keep your Trust clean and the day you get it is confirmation you are going in the right direction.

Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) said, “Yaa waladee!”

The mureed answered, “Sayyidi, you are here? What can I do for you?”

The shaykh (q) said, “I came here for you, because you came here for Allah; you acknowledged yourself to be the worst, like when Sayyidina Bayazid al-Bistami (q) accepted to become a dump for human beings.”

There is a saying of Grandshaykh (q) that carries a lot of wisdom: “Without mureeds the shaykh is not worth a penny,” laa yusaawi shay’, the shaykh is in need of his followers. Not only are they in need of him, he is in need of them. If they are not there, to whom is he going to speak, to the wall? Also, Awliyaullah are strict in not giving themselves excuses.

Don’t praise yourself. (Surat an-Najm, 53:32)

When you wake up to pray Fajr, say to yourself, “I am wrong.” That is why when you open your eyes the first thing you say is tajdeed al-imaan, to revive your faith, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah” and before you sleep say, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah.’

Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) called him, “Approach, I have good tidings for you and don't be afraid. Sit on your knees and connect your knees to my knees.” Khwaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) was turning his Shahaadah finger and with that finger he was sending light like a laser into the heart of the mureed, opening for him the Six Realities: Haqiqat al-Jazbah, Reality of Attraction; Haqiqat al-Fayd, Reality of Downpouring; Haqiqat at-Tawajjuh, Reality of Focusing; Haqiqat at-Tawassul, Reality of Intercession; Haqiqat al-Irshad, Reality of Guidance; Haqiqat at-Tayy, the Reality of Scrolling. These Six Realities are in everyone's heart and your shaykh wants you to know these Realities are yours.

As the secrets went into his heart, the mureed was whirling, rising up and going down, like Sayyidina Jalaluddin Rumi (q). How was he whirling? The shaykh was raising his mureeds up to his level and they were whirling in the air above the ground. That is how he used to whirl, not like today when they are on the ground and don't rise even one millimeter. Before, Sayyidina Jalaluddin ar-Rumi (q) was rising up.

When the shaykh moved his finger, he put Haqiqat al-Jazbah into his heart, and with that power wherever you go in any city or country people are attracted to you. That knowledge is not from books or notes. As the Prophet (s) is in Ascension, he is sending to the heart of the mureeds.

The mureed said to his shaykh, “Is this in Tariqah? I did not know such nice things were in Tariqah.” Why the use of the Shahaadah finger? Because that is the finger for asserting Kalimat at-Tawheed and ‘laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ is the key to Paradise.

Whoever says ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ enters Paradise.

We say now, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah.”

The shaykh said to him, “This is not from me, this is only what is already in your heart.”

This is planted in the heart of every child before birth, when some are veiled and others are not. As soon as you enter this world, the veil blocks those powers you have unless Allah opens it for you:

" إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا ، جَعَلَ لَهُ وَاعِظًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ يَأْمُرُهُ وَيَنْهَاهُ "

If Allah (swt) wants goodness for His servant, He will make for him a guide in his heart.

(Abu Na`eem al-Ispahani in Hilyat al-Awliya from Ahmad bin Hanbal)

So he said, “This is all within you and what Allah granted to each `abd regardless of what they do, not what I grant from my own secrets.” Awliya open some secrets to their followers and others they do not. Those to whom they shaykh opens secrets then know their Reality. When babies are born, Allah's orders them to come out to dunya and they don't want to, so they begin to cry for losing the purity of the mother’s womb.

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an, “Read! Yaa Muhammad!” Maa ana bi qaari, “I am not a storyteller; do you want to me read from what You have given me? What part should I read?”

Read in the Name of your Lord Who created. He created man from a blood clot. Read, “Your Lord is Most Generous.” (Surat al-Alaq, 96:1-3)

“What do You want me to read?”

“Iqra bismi rabbika ‘lladhee khalaq, Read in the Name of Your Lord Who created.”

At the moment Allah (swt) created Creation, Prophet (s) knew all about it! Allah is telling him to read from that secret, Iqra wa rabbuka ‘l-akram, Allah is more Generous and will give you more, “Read and I will give you continuously, non-stop, but read.”

“What am I going to read?”

“Read from `Uloom al-Awwaleen wa ‘l-Akhireen.”

Iqra bismi rabbika ‘lladhee khalaq, Allah opened from the secret of Creation, sirr al-khalq, for Prophet to see the greatness of Allah on His Creation.

Khalaq al-insaana min `alaq, He created human beings from a small clot, and what happened, it became a universe! Look at people from a clot smaller than an atom, that egg and sperm is microscopic, can anyone here see it? In a microscope they look very big; there are billions of sperms to one egg and from that Allah creates Creation.

Truly the creation of the Heavens and the Earth is greater than the Creation of Man. (Surat Ghafir, 40:57)

Allah said in the Holy Qur’an that the Creation of Heaven and Earth is greater than the Creation of human beings, which means we are nothing. Allah is creating Creation continuously as He is Khaaliq for all times, not stopping for one second. The Khaaliq is The One Who continuously creates. All these secrets are known to the six realities in your heart that are embedded there, that the shaykh will enable you to pull them out. Some can and some cannot, it is a struggle. We have to struggle.

Those who believe, then reject faith, then believe (again) and (again) reject faith, and go on increasing in unbelief, Allah will not forgive them nor guide them on the Way. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:137)

One day we are on imaan and next day on ma`asiyya, not shirk here, but kafaroo bi-ni`amillah. Muslims are Muslims, so one day they pray well, fast well, and don't backbite anyone, read Holy Qur'an, read their awraad, make salawaat, and so on.

Those who have Haqiqat al-Jazbah attract people and they become like a spotlight, wherever they go people come. Who is guiding them? Allah is sending them to that shaykh or wali, “Go to that sincere servant of Mine,” and they go. One time Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) was on the minbar giving the khutbah and he read Surat al-Fatihah and, according to the madhhab of Imam ash-Shaafi'i, we read Fatihah for every du'a, so he read Fatihah again and again, and also made the group read it, for him and them to get the barakah. Then he said, “This tafseer is for common people,” and he read the Fatihah and said, “This tafseer is for `ulama,” and it went from common people to `ulama, because:

وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِي عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ

Above every knower is a (higher) knower. (Surah Yusuf, 12:76)

Above every `alim is another `alim; it will never end. Then he again read Surat al-Fatihah and said, “This is for Awliya’ullah.” Then he read Surat al-Fatihah and said, “This only for the one behind the pillar of the masjid; no one will understand but him.”

Grandshaykh (q) asked, is there one Maaliki Yawmi ‘d-Deen, Owner of the Day of Judgement or infinite numbers of them? Is there only one judgement? For Awliyaullah there is a new Judgment Day and new Creation every moment! From `Ism al-Khaaliq, Allah also ends Creations: our Creation is one of them, and Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is the prophet of all of them, who knows their secret that will be opened on Judgment Day!

Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) expressed to his followers...Awliyaullah look at everything with subtlety, even the most delicate matter they bring it out.

You alone we worship and You alone we call for help. (Surat al-Fatihah, 1:5)

Iyyaaka to whom? I don’t know, we don't know the meaning. Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) asked. Awliyaullah can communicate, their souls are free, they are in Barzakh and move by Allah orders; Allah did not make their graves a prison, their grave is open for them as piece of Paradise.

All these notes we are reviewing is to show Allah's Mercy. In the levels of Haqiqat al-Jazbah, Haqiqat al-Fayd, Haqiqat al-Tawajjahu, the wali can direct his followers even if he is in China! When he makes tawajjuh, he directs his energy towards his mureed, who can hear him and see him. There is one shaykh in Syria, Shaykh Ahmad Haroun, who has a lot of karamah, miracles. In the Naqshbandi Order you are not allowed to show direct miracles, although indirect miracles are okay, because Naqshbandi Awliyaullah don't want you to praise your ego by showing off your power. In other Tariqahs miracles are allowed, and at that time Shaykh Ahmad Haroun was in Shaam sitting with his mureeds in Bab Touma, a Christian-Muslim neighborhood where they didn’t fight, although now there is war.

Someone said, “Yaa shaykh, my son is so sick and there is no one to take care of him except one specialist in Aleppo, 500 miles away.”

He said, “Ok, no problem. We will call him.” He took out his belt from his pants, put it to his ear and said, “Allo!” and the doctor answered and everyone heard that! That is a true story. Shaykh Ahmad Haroun is very famous; it was only 60 -70 years ago.

That doctor said, “I am coming immediately!”

He took a car, and in four hours was in Damascus, knocking on the shaykh’s door. How did he hear him and know him? That is tawajjuh. Why do they accept Chinese telepathy but not Awliya telepathy, I don't understand. Someone said he went to China and was praying in the big mosque on a Friday and he put a turban, so it was easy to identity him.

The Imam came to him and said, “From where?”

He said, “From America.”

He said, “Why are you wearing this?”

He said, “My shaykh said to wear it and it is Sunnah.”

Turbans are the crowns of the Arabs. (Daylami)

Man a`azzaha a`azzahu ‘Llah wa man wada`aha wada`ahu ‘Llah, whoever put the turban down, Allah will put him down; who wears it will be raised by Allah. That’s why every man and boy must put a turban or at least a hat, not only expecting women to be covered and leaving the men not covered. Did any of the Sahaabah say the Prophet had an uncovered head? No, he was covering, hayaa’an min Allah. To put something on your head is to declare your servanthood, your sajda, that you are under the Dome of Reality.

So the imam said, “That turban is special, it is wrapped in a different way.”

He said, “Yes, my shaykh wraps that way and I am doing it like him.”

He said, “Who is your shaykh?”

He said, “Shaykh Nazim.”

The imam took out something from his wallet and said, “Is this his picture?”

He said, “Yes.”

He said, “He is my shaykh. He came to me in a dream and since then I took bay'a and am following him. Whichever foreigner comes to the mosque, I recognize him by his turban.”

The turban is the crown of Arabs, which they wore it until recently, but now they forgot. Now many scholars put it off, wearing tie and suit. There is no shyness in religion. When you go to work you can wear normal clothes, not ‘normal’ but abnormal clothes, the tie and suit. When you go to the masjid though, I see in some masaajid they put the `imamah and throw the tie in the garbage. So one person in California whom I know very well, whose name I won’t mention, an `alim from the square-headed ones, was on the minbar and I looked at him in surprise, as he said something on the minbar that was not right: “If Muhammad comes in these days, he will wear jeans.” If an `aalim who leads Jumu`ah says that, what do you expect?

Allah with His Mercy has given different months in the year to Ummat an-Nabi (s) like Rajab, Shaa`ban, Ramadan, Muharram, Dhu ‘l-Hijjah, Safar al-Khayr, Rabi` al-Awwal, in which some nights are very important. Why did He give them that? These are treasures that He kept with Him and gave to Prophet (s) at Qaaba Qawsayni Aw Adna to keep for the Ummah until Judgment Day. These are Rahmatullah which bring you back to yawma waladatka ummuk, the day your mother gave birth to you. If you observe these sacred nights that are so special, and especially today, which is 27th Ramadan, the Day of Qadr, as Prophet (s) said to look for Laylat al-Qadr on odd nights between the 21st and 29th, about which Allah (swt) said:

لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ

The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. (Surat al-Qadr, 97:3)

Laylat al-Qadr is mentioned in Holy Qur’an three times and in Arabic it is spelled with nine letters.

Behold, We sent it down on the Night of Power, and what shall teach you what is the Night of Power? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months! In it the angels and the soul descend upon every command by the permission of their Lord. Peace it is, until the rising of dawn. (Surat al-Qadr, 97:1-5)

The value is the number ‘27’. ‘Salaamun hiya hatta matla`il-Fajr’ is the fourth mention of Laylat al-Qadr. There will be no shooting stars that night, as Allah mentioned, salaamun hiya hatta matla'il-fajr. In this verse ‘hiya’ refers to Laylat al-Qadr and it is comprised of two letters, for a total of 29 letters, the number of letters in the Arabic alphabet. It means every constellation in these 29 days is something special, and Allah knows best how to show Mercy to us!

Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
