The Prophet (s) Will Perfect and Complete Your Good Manners

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

9 February 2013 Rolling Meadows, Illinois

20th Annual Mawlid an-Nabi (s) at Meadows Club (2)

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Alhamdulillahi rabbi ‘l-`alameen w ’as-salaatu w ’as-salaam `alaa sayyid al-mursaleen. Alhamdulillahi ‘Lladhee ja`alnaa min ummati’n-Nabi al-Mustafaa (s)...

O brothers and sisters! It is a pleasure for me to be here tonight to celebrate Prophet’s (s) birthday. Too many speakers around the world are celebrating throughout the year the Prophet’s (s) birthday almost every day and it is not something we control, it is in the Hands of Heavens. The Prophet’s birthday is not only on Earth, it is on every planet around the world in all the Heavens from the first through to the seventh to the ninth, to infinite numbers of Heavens. And the Prophet’s (s) birthday is celebrated in the Divine Presence, as Allah (swt) said:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

Inna-Llaaha wa malaa'ikatahu yusalloona `alaa 'n-nabiyy, yaa ayyuha ’Lladheena aamanoo salloo `alayhi wa sallimoo tasleema.

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him him with a worthy salutation. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:56)

Before I continue, I don’t know how much time I have, but really no one can explain or express his feelings to the Prophet (s); it is something very difficult to speak about and express the feelings to Sayyidina Muhammad (s). But I see something not extraordinary, but something we need to improve in the community we have tonight. In England, this year we did many celebrations of Milad an-Nabi (s) and the Pakistanis there are not like here, there the community is strong, but here I am feeling no energy. [Naray takbeer! Naray risalah!] I don’t know why we are sleeping here! We have to energize ourselves. Let me hear someone here say, “Naray takbeer!” Continue, why did you stop!

Mawlana (a guest), is it not correct? They said, “You have to speak.” What do I have to speak? There are mashaa-Allah speakers here who can speak about the importance of Prophet (s) and the celebration of the Prophet (s). I was thinking what I was going to say and what Allah (swt) gave to Sayyidina Muhammad (s) that He did not give to anyone. It is very simple. What did the Prophet (s) say Allah created first? It is the Light of the Prophet (s), it is the Light of Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! And after the creation of his Light, Allah created all other Creations. We don’t want to go into that hadith, it is a long hadith, but when Allah want to create Creation He took the Light of the Prophet (s) and put it in Bahr al-Qudra, the Ocean of Energy or Ocean of Power, and it was turning and turning in that ocean.

You know in physics, when something turns like a turbine it creates energy, so when the Light of the Prophet (s) was turning and turning, Allah created from that Light all Creation, not only dunya. Dunya is finishing, it is ending, dunya is going and what is not going is important. From the Light of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), Allah created Heavens and Earth, He created this universe from the Light of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), from that Light in which Prophet (s) is dressed. If you carry a book don’t you know what is in the book? If you wrote a book don’t you know what is in it? This Creation is being created from the Light of Prophet (s), so does he not know what is in his Light? That is why he said, “I have been informed, `Uloom al-Awwaleen wa ‘l-Akhireen, I know the Knowledge of Before and the Knowledge of After.” Say, “Naray takbeer!” [Naray takbeer! Naray risalah!]

So by this light, this spotlight that we can see here, if there is no light you cannot see us. This light is producing power and energy and that energy that Allah (swt) made from the Bahr al-Qudrah is turning and still turning there, and still Creation is coming from it as Allah is al-Khaaliq and Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is the Messenger to all Creations from beginning to no end!

So who can speak of the Prophet (s)? Look at his miracles. In the early morning he would eat seven dates and one cup of milk every day. He never stopped that and the Sahaabah asked about this, and he said, “This mixture of dates and milk produces power to the brain to think well and it takes the poison from the body.” So the Sahaabah used to eat seven dates and milk. Recently, about six or seven years ago, scientists tried to see why the Prophet (s) said that, so they took the seven dates and one cup of milk and put it in an artificial stomach with all the enzymes and acid that is in the stomach and it began to work. Suddenly a blue light was coming from the center of the stomach to the brain that they were able to see. [Subhaan-Allah! Naray takbeer...] Say more, more! Allahu Akbar! Yaa `Ali Haydari! Jeevay jeevay! Murshid jeevay! So they saw the mixture bringing a blue light to the brain and found that light is increasing intelligence in the brain and found that the rest of mixture was going between the skin and muscles, where the poison usually goes from the liver and lives in between the skin and muscles, and that it was killing the poison!

That is 1400 years ago; the Prophet (s) knew what scientists did not know until 1400 years later. This is one of the Prophet’s (s) scientific miracles. What can we say about this? Who was able to do that? No one. And he said in his hadith:

حياتي خير لكم تحدثون ويحدث لكم ، فإذا أنا مت كانت وفاتي خيرا لكم ، تعرض علي أعمالكم فان رأيت خيرا حمدت الله تعالى وإن رأيت شرا استغفرت لكم

Hayaatee khayrun lakum tuhadithoona wa yuhdatha lakum fa idhaa anaa mitt kaana wafaatee khayran lakum. Tu`radu `alayya `amalakum fa in ra’aitu khayran hamadt 'allah ta`ala wa in ra’itu sharran astaghfarta lakum.

My life is good for you as you will relate from me and it will be related to you, and when I die my passing will be better for you. (Meaning, “My death is better for you than my life, because then I can pray for you.”) I observe your deeds. If I find good I thank Allah, and if I see bad, I ask forgiveness for you. (al-Bazzaar in his Musnad)

The Prophet (s) sees the action of his ummah and if he sees good he thanks Allah, and if not he asks forgiveness for them. Okay, did we think a little bit about the meaning of that hadith? And we are all clever to say, “He is haazir, naazhir, hearing and seeing,” he is present and he is hearing and he is seeing! For a normal person, if he can see what other people cannot see, what of Prophet (s)? Prophet (s) said:

Man `ada lee waliyan aadhantahu bi ’l-harb wa maa taqarraba ilayya `abdee bi-shayyin ahabba ilayya mimmaa aftaradtu `alayhi wa maa yazaalu `abdee yataqarabu ilayya bi’ n-nawaafil hatta uhibbah. Fa idhaa ahbaabtahu kuntu sama`uhulladhee yasma`u bihi wa basarahulladhee yubsiru bihi, wa yadahulladhee yabtishu bihaa wa rijlahullatee yamshee bihaa.

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”). (Hadith Qudsi, Bukhari)

If that is for a normal person, then what about Prophet (s)? Look at the difference, “I observe the `amal of my ummah.” How can he observe the `amal of his ummah? How many are in his ummah? In a moment, the Prophet (s) can see everyone of the ummah and what they are doing, and that is the meaning of “haazhir and naazhir,” and not one overlaps the other with their names and what they are doing! He can see everyone separately with their names and what they are doing, and he asks Allah for forgiveness on each one’s behalf! [Naray takbeer!...] Yaa Rasoolullah! Yaa `Ali! Yaa Ghawthiya! Zindabad! Allahu Akbar, that is good! I am preparing them for you (speakers to follow)!

Where did we arrive? So he (s) can see the whole ummah in the same moment. Can we see in one moment more than one person? Sayyidina Muhammad (s) can see us, he knows everything about us. O Muslims! Don’t underestimate his powers, as Allah (swt) said:

مَرَجَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌ لَّا يَبْغِيَانِ

Maraj al-bahrayni yaltaqiyaani baynahumaa barzakhun laa yabghiyaan.

He let forth the two seas so that they meet together. Between them is a barrier that they do not transgress. (Surat al-Rahman, 55:19)

When did He say that? Min al-Azal, it is from Pre-Eternity, but when was Holy Qur'an revealed? Fourteen-hundred years ago. And Allah (swt) said, Maraj al-bahrayni yaltaqiyaan, “He made the two oceans meet together and between them baynahumaa, is a quarantine,” that one ocean cannot come into another ocean; they cannot be assimilated to each other, one is separated from the other. Now the scientists found that the two oceans, the Mediterranean and Atlantic, or any two oceans, when they meet there is a quarantine between them that fish go into for forty days to adapt themselves to the other ocean, then they can move to the Atlantic or to the Mediterranean. [Naray takbeer!...] Allahu Akbar! Yaa Rasoolullah! Yaa `Ali!

How did the Prophet (s) know that and observe that? `Allama al-qur’an. Jibreel (a) was coming to the Prophet (s) with revelation of Surah Maryam and he said, “Kaaf,” the Prophet (s) said, “`Alimtu,” and he said, “Haa,” “`Alimtu,” “`Ayn,” “`Alimtu,” “Saad,” “`Alimtu,” and the Prophet (s) said “`Alimtu,” and he said, “I say to you, and you say, ‘`Alimtu,’, you know!” So he knew all the knowledge of the Holy Qur`an, he knew every letter of Holy Qur'an! Kaaf is a letter, Haa is a letter, `Ayn is a letter, Saad is a letter, but it is not a letter that we can understand, but the Prophet (s) can understand the oceans of meanings on every letter of Holy Qur'an. There is no restriction and limitation on the meanings of every letter of Holy Qur’an.

Alif is a letter and at the same time is a word! If it was only a letter, would it have a meaning? It cannot carry a meaning if it is a letter, but if it is a word it can carry a meaning. So `ulama al-Ummah put many meanings for al-huroof al-muqata`at, the (mystical) letters (that precede some surahs of Holy Qur’an, such as) Alif. Laam. Meem and Haa. Meem. `Ayn. Seen. Saad and Qaaf. Haa. Yaa. `Ayn. Saad. Every letter has meaning that no one knows except the Prophet (s), but he gave everything to the ummah, he didn’t keep it for himself, so it means the ummah can understand these hidden knowledges!

In the Hadith Qudsi I just mentioned, “My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, his tongue that he can speak with,” it means these meanings will be poured in your heart, but you have to be a good person, and what is a good person? That is a person who does salawaat without stopping, as he is imitating angels. Allah (s) said to all angels:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

Inna-Llaaha wa malaa'ikatahu yusalloona `ala 'n-nabiyy, yaa ayyuha ’Lladheena aamanoo salloo `alayhi wa sallimoo tasleema.

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him him with a worthy salutation. (Surat al-'Ahzaab, 33:56)

What are these angels? How many are they? There is no limitation, as He said “all of them.” All of the angels are making salawaat: those He created and those He is creating now and those He will create in the future are all making salawaat on the Prophet (s)! Let us think a little bit. These angels, are they millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions, a billion or trillion, a quadrillion? No, there are more, and all of them are doing salawaat on the Prophet (s) non-stop! What kind of darood do you think they are making on the Prophet (s)? Just now (a mureed) asked me which darood we have to read and I asked, which darood are the angels reciting? Do you think all these billions and trillions of angels are making the same darood? No way, or then (to think so) you would be limiting Allah’s Greatness. No, each angel is making a special darood for himself alone, different than all others, and if we say they are repeating then we are limiting Allah’s Power, and each salawaat they make must be different than the previous salawaat as it is not a copy machine, each is unique. So in every moment, every angel is doing salawaat on Prophet (s) and in the next moment it is a different salawaat and in next moment is a different salawaat. Billions and billions and billions of angels... think, what kind of power from these endless salawaat are dressing Sayyidina Muhammad (s)?

O People! Say, “SubhaanAllah, alhamdulillah wa laa ilaaha illa-Llah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa ‘l-azaamatu lillah wa ‘l-`izzatu lillahi wa li rasoolihi wa li ‘l-mu’mineen!

O Believers! The celebration we are doing for the Prophet (s) is an imitation of the celebration of the Prophet (s) that is being made every day in every moment in Paradise! What do you think of the angels’ darood, is it not a celebration? To make a darood is a celebration of Prophet’s birthday! If we are making darood, we are imitating Whom? [The angels.] Angels and Whom? Allah (swt), as He says:

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Qul in kuntum tuhibboona 'Llaaha fattabi`oonee yuhbibkumullaahu wa yaghfir lakum dhunoobakum w 'Allaahu Ghafooru 'r-Raheem.

Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat Aali-'Imraan, 3:31)

“If you really love Allah, follow Muhammad (s)!” We are following by doing darood on him, imitational darood of the original darood up in Heavens. We are imitating. We will get the same blessings of that which the angels are praying on the Prophet (s) and Allah is dressing him, with which in turn he is dressing his ummah!

O Mu’mins! It is not easy to speak of the Prophet (s). Look at the Moon, can we all see the Moon at the same time, all the people in a country? There is a 24 hour difference in time between here and far countries, but everyone sees the Moon. You see the Moon and the Moon sees you! Who is the Moon? It is Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! The Moon is Muhammad (s), siraajan muneera, he is the Light that reflects on everyone, and he can see everyone. That Light can reach you in the same moment everywhere. Don’t think that it is too much for Prophet (s) to see everyone in the same moment, all of you together at the same time! Look at the power of the Prophet (s). We can see that spotlight (above the stage) all at the same time, so if we are able to reach the level where he spoke of in the Hadith Qudsi, “As long as My Servant approaches Me, I will be the ears with which he hears, and eyes with which he sees,” then we will see the Light of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) shining on this room! Don’t think he is away, he is present! Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah, yaa Shafi`i al-Mudhnibeen!

I am giving scientific examples as many of the youth here are studying physics, engineering, chemistry or whatever they are studying. Let us take the second (unit of a minute). Scientists said, “Let us see how many fractions of a second we can find in time. (Time consists of hours, minutes and seconds, and we know that an hour has 60 minutes and one minute is 60 seconds.) Can we go down more from the second and if we do, what will happen?” So they began to break the second down, less and less, until it reached 10-22 (10-minus-22), which is 22 zeros after the decimal point and then a one. That is the smallest fraction of a second, 22 zeros and then one; it cannot even be seen as it is smaller than an atom, smaller than the micron, smaller than anything! Time collapsed, there was no more time because from the beginning time is imaginary, the Fourth Dimension is imaginary. The three dimensions you can see, but you cannot see the Fourth Dimension because Allah did not give you the eyes to see it, but if Allah gives you the eyes to see, then you can see the Fourth Dimension. So time collapsed, no more time. What happened? Everything turned into energy, taaqaah. And we know taaqaah, an-noor is taaqaah, the light is the energy. So with that source of energy, the light, we can do everything. With light, energy, you can move a one ton bar of iron using a crane or an engine with electricity running it, with taaqaah in it. So Allah dressed the Prophet (s) with Bahr al-Qudra, the Ocean of Taaqaah, the Ocean of Power, that through him (s) everything is shining and through him everything appeared and we can see everything.

O Muslims! I will not take too much time. We are happy to say that three years in a row in England, with the help of our friends in the Pakistani community, we were able to celebrate the Prophet’s birthday on the exact day of 12th of Rabi` al-Awwal in the Houses of Parliament, in the House of Commons, with many different ministers and MPs. For the third time! That is not simple, to be able to go inside and do the Mawlid of the Prophet (s). That is something that, inshaa-Allah, is going to go everywhere around the world. When I first came here in 1991, there were very few people doing celebrations of the Prophet (s). Now every mosque is running to do that, for whatever reason they are doing it. Some began to turn from Salafi to Sufi and for some it is the money they are getting. Okay, take money, but do it and don’t keep quiet!

May Allah forgive us and bless us and keep us and bless this ummah! There are heavy days coming, difficult days and we are not in an easy time, we are in difficult times. Keep to yourself. And the Prophet (s) said one thing that we must keep:

انما بعثت لاتمم مكارم الاخلاق

Innamaa bu`ithtu li utammimu makaarim al-akhlaaq.

I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)

“All your worship is for you, but I was sent to complete and perfect your manners and behavior.” There are mawlanas here. The Prophet (s) said, innama bu`ithtu li utammima makaarim al-akhlaaq, he gave a decision that he is going to complete the manners of his ummah and their good behavior, the moral excellence and the Station of Ihsaan, and to complete it. He didn’t complete us, still we have bad manners: we fight with each other, we are angry with each other and we are jealous of each other, so what does that hadith mean? It means that Muhammad (s) Sayyid ar-Rasool, took a decision on himself that, “You will not die without being perfected in good manners!” Prophet (s) is taking responsibility for that! [Naray takbeer!...] Allahu Akbar! That means that no Muslim, no mu’min will leave dunya without seeing the Prophet (s) completing his good manners and behavior for him. He took on this responsibility in front of Allah (swt), as he says, innamaa bu`ithtu, “I have been sent,” which means, “Allah has sent me to complete your manners!” No one will leave this dunya without good manners on the day of his soul going out of his body except that he will meet the Prophet (s) and will be perfected. If you don’t reach in dunya, you will reach it when you die. That is what Prophet (s) has mentioned in that hadith, and there are many about his rahmah. There is no time (to mention more), I have to stop now. May Allah forgive us, may Allah bless us.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Naray takbeer... Naray Haydari, Naray Siddiq, Naray Farooq, Naray Usmani!
