وَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ

W ’asbir li-hukmi rabbika fa-innaka bi `ayooninaa wa sabbih bi-hamdi rabbika heena taqoom.

Now await in patience the command of your Lord, for verily you are Our eyes, and celebrate the praises of your Lord when you stand. (Surah Al-Tur, 52:48)

This means, “Any movement you make, We are watching you.” (The observation is) from Him. For the servant it is not proper to say, “You are my eyes.” How do you say it?

Guest: Fa innaka bi `ayooninaa means that Allah says to the Prophet (s), “You are My eyes and whoever looks at you it is as if he is looking at Me.”

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: This interpretation is not correct, it means, “He is Allah and you are under observation.”

Guest: So it means the Prophet (s) is under the observation of Allah, without doubt, and all his works, his breath and everything are under His divinely observation. When we look at the Prophet (s) it is as if we are looking at the Divine Light, the Divine Eyes in the movements of the Prophet (s).

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: It is not possible for even an atom to be without the observation of al-Haqq as every atom has its own special name and its own special glorification towards its Lord of Honor and Might. You pointed at a possible meaning and Allah knows best. What is other than Allah that is you? You [O Muhammad] are the one who is seen in the mirror of the Truth. Everything is seen in your mirror. If it was not for the mirror, then nothing would appear in existence. No one could bear that. Subhaanahu wa ta’ala.
