A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.
May Allah (swt) increase them. Inshaa-Allah, more weddings, more nikkahs, more happiness to the Ummah of Rasoolullah (s), to our community. Rasoolullah’s (s) Sunnah is nikkah, so follow the Sunnah of Rasoolullah (s). When you’re able to, make yourself a family, get yourself a home, start a family, teach them the way of Rasoolullah (s).
If you succeed, they are your retirement fund for Akhirah. If your child prays for you, if your grandchild prays for you, if any of your offspring pray for you, you have gained the best. Your `amal continues in Akhirah. May Allah (swt) bless the wedding that was done yesterday. May Allah (swt) give the bride and the groom long lives, good `amal, good children, plentiful rizq, and happiness and compassion between each other. The ones who are not married yet, may Allah (swt) open a way for them. The ones who are married, may Allah (swt) give them more patience, for men and for women. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) gives patience for both.
[Hajjah Naziha: Who is going to be more patient?]
That is the test.
Wa ja`alna ba`dhakum li ba`din fitnatan atasbiroon.
And the apostles whom We sent before you [O Muhammad] were all (men) who ate food and walked through the streets: We have made some of you as a trial for others: will you have patience? for Allah is One Who sees (all things). ( Surat al-Furqan, 25:20)
You are a trial for your fellow human being. You are a trial for each other. Allah (swt) is saying, atasbiroon, are you patient? Wa kaana Rabbuka baseera. Allah (swt) is certainly Ever-Watchful.
The patient one will have very high levels in Jannah. Allah (swt) will give them thawab bi hisaab, reward without accounting. Innama yuwafa ‘s-sabiroona ajrahum bi ghayri hisab.
Say: "O My servants who believe! Fear your Lord, good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is Allah's earth! those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!" (Surat az-Zumar, 39:10)
Sabir will be given their reward without accounting. May Allah (swt) make us from the patient ones and the grateful ones. Sabr and Shukr. Sabr in difficulties for Allah (swt)’s opening, His victory to come through and gratitude and thankfulness in ni`mah, favors and blessings so it continues. If you do not tie up the ni`mah with shukr, it goes away. Tie up the ni`mah that is bestowed upon you by thanking Allah (swt). He has a promise.
If you thank Me, I will increase. If you don’t thank Me, be careful. Allah (swt) might take that ni`mah from you.
And remember! your Lord caused to be declared (publicly): "If you are grateful, I will increase My (favours) unto you; But if you show ingratitude, truly My punishment is terrible indeed." (Surah Ibrahim, 14:7)
If you have something you love, something you like, something you enjoy, something you like to see happening and it happens, say, “Yaa Rabbee, thank you.” More of it will happen. If you have a difficulty, if there’s a hardship, if there is an affliction that has come upon you, your family, your community, upon your loved ones, be patient. If you’re not patient, ask power from Allah (swt).
Don’t say, “Give me more patience.” Say, Allahumma qawwi d`afee fee ridaak. “Yaa Rabbee. I am weak. Strengthen my weakness in what pleases You.” If you say, “Give me more patience,” He will load more on you. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said that. Don’t ask for patience directly, ask for strengthening the weakness you have. “Yaa Rabbee. I am weak. Strengthen my weakness in what pleases You.” Allah (swt) will allow you to carry the hardship that is coming through and you will gain the reward of the patient one. The patient one will be in the highest levels of Jannah, men and women.
There was one woman who looked at her husband and she laughed. The husband asked, “Why are you laughing?” He said, “I looked at you and saw that you were thanking Allah (swt) for having a lady like me. You are from Ahlu ’l-Jannah because you are from Ahlu ’sh-Shukr. I looked at myself and I looked at you and I also smiled because Allah (swt) also promised Jannah for Ahlu ’s-Sabr, the patient one. You were thankful. You’re from the people of Paradise. I was patient with you. I am from the people of Paradise.”
Sabr and shukr. One time the wife is patient and the husband is thankful. One time the husband is patient and the wife is thankful. May Allah (swt) allow us to be from both sides, from Ahlu ’sh-shukr and Ahlu ’s-sabr. May Allah (swt) allow us to have power to carry that burden if it comes but we ask that Allah (swt) take it away. That is why whenever you see a difficulty you say, Allahumma `afina, “Yaa Rabbee. Free me from this. Don’t test me with this. Don’t try me with this. From Your endless favors, don’t test me with this.” Because you cannot carry some hardships, some difficulties, that might change your heart against Allah (swt) instead of being with Allah (swt). May Allah (swt) forgive all of us.
Shaytan appeared to Sayyidina Yahya (a), the son of Zakariyya (a) and he said, “I want to give you some advice.” Sayyidina Yahya (a) said, “You are lying. You will never give me sincere advice but tell me something about the Children of Adam.”
Iblees said, “To us the Children of Adam are of three categories. The first one is the most difficult for us.”
What is in your heart, O mu’min, O Muslim? We had a one hour interview on, “What is tariqah?” Mashaa-Allah, we have Qadiris, Chishtis, Naqshbandis, Shadhilis. We have different turuq. What is tariqah? Tariqah is the way that you secure or achieve qalbun saleem. Allah (swt) does not accept anyone except the one who comes to Him with qalbun saleem, a purified heart, a pure heart. The turuq are the ways to purify that heart from whatever is inside of it. What’s in it? Why did Allah (swt) say in Surah Baqarah, fee quloobihim marad, in their hearts lies a disease?
In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: And grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves). (Surat al-Baqarah, 2:10)
What disease? Heart disease, clogged arteries, valves that don’t work, irregular rhythm? Physical? It’s not physical, it’s spiritual. What kind of disease is that?
Allah (swt) said, come to Me with qalbun saleem. Allah (swt) will ask every human being on Judgement Day, “Didn’t I tell you to come to My Presence with a pure heart? I sent you the manual. The heavenly message continues the prescription for a pure heart. Why didn’t you follow My advice and come to Me with a purified heart? Your heart contained a disease. I told you.” What is that disease? They ask about tariqah. Tariqah is to purify your heart from that disease. There is a disease in the heart. What is it? Temptation? Iblees is in the hearts of everyone. The temptations that he throws into your ears, hearts and beings is ongoing.
Sayyidina Yahya (a) said, “Tell me about the Children of Adam.”
Iblees said, “There are three categories. The first one is the most difficult one. We approach them and tempt them to do something wrong and when we control them to do that something wrong, they run to istighfaar and tawba. They run to Allah (swt) seeking forgiveness and repentance and they ruin everything we have achieved from them. We work on them and work on them and finally get them to do the temptations that they carry in their hearts.”
Do you have any temptation? Yes, you do. Do you have any desires roaming? What temptations are roaming in your heart today? What temptations did you receive from Iblees today? What desires roamed in your heart today? Many. He said, “We throw this waswasa in their hearts, get them to do it and they run to their Lord. They run to their Beloved. They say, ‘Yaa Rabbee. I’m asking for forgiveness. Please forgive me. Tawbah. I repent.’ They ruin everything we have done. But we come back to them again. When we get them to do what we want, again they go back to Allah (swt).” In Surat al-Isra, Allah (swt) says, asta`eedhu billah: Wa in `udtum `udna.
If you return, We return. If you return for forgiveness, We return with giving you forgiveness.
It may be that your Lord may (yet) show Mercy unto you; but if you revert (to your sins), We shall revert (to Our punishments): And we have made Hell a prison for those who reject (all Faith). (Surat al-Isra, 17:8)
“They keep going to Allah (swt) every time we tempt them to do something wrong. These ones are the hardest. We are continuously tired of running after them. We don’t despair but we never really achieve what we really want from them.” That is the first group of Bani Adam. That is us, the mu’min, the believer, the ones who know they have done a mistake, that they have wronged themselves and others. They run to their Lord, “O our Lord, we repent from that bad doing. Please forgive us and make us not do it again.” When you ask tawbah from Allah (swt), He will protect you from not doing it again. His Wisdom is Infinite and He knows best. He forgives.
He said, “The second group is like the ball in the hands of your children. We play with them like your children play with the ball. We grab it and play with it. They do everything we want. They go in any direction we throw them. They have surrendered themselves to us. We guide them to whatever we want, as you guide the sheep to wherever you want it to go.” Isn’t that happening nowadays? They are in the hands of the devil. He moves them however he wishes. They have surrendered themselves to him. They say, “He sold his soul to the devil.”
Alhamdulillah, we are not from that group. Try not to be from that. That is why you say, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Allah (swt) has given you that weapon of prayer, “Yaa Rabbee. Shelter me from the accursed devil. I don’t want to be in his hands like the ball in the hands of my children, they do whatever they want with it.”
He said, “The third group is people like you. Allah (swt) has protected them. We have no power over them.” This is the group that Allah (swt) has said in the Holy Qur’an:
Inna `ibaadi laysa laka `alayhim sultan.
"For over My servants no authority shall you have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow you." (Surat al-Hijr, 15:42)
My servants, you have no power over them. He said, `ibaadee, servants. Why don’t you be from them? Shaytan has no power over them, no power of temptations, no power of desires. That is the group of Anbiya that Allah (swt) has granted them infallibility. He can never approach them with any kind of sin. Allah (swt) has given Awliyaullah hifz, He protects them.
The first group is us. We fall into mistakes and ask for forgiveness. The second group, he has them as a ball, he moves them anywhere he wants. The third group are the infallible ones who commit no sins. These are prophets, messengers and those who followed their way a hundred percent.
Sayyidina Yahya (a) asked Iblees, “Did you get anything from me?”
“No, except one time. You prepared food for yourself. I approached you and I made that food appealing to you. I told you, ‘Eat more. Eat more. Eat more.’”
Mashaa-Allah, I see some people fill one plate and then go for a second, a third and a fourth and then they go to the banquet. Eat as much as you want. He said, “I made that food appealing to you and you ate more than you intended and you slept that night.”
Paradise doesn’t accept dirty stuff. Paradise is only for clean people, clean things. There is no dirtiness in Paradise. He said, “Because you did that you slept that night and did not wake up for your prayer as you usually do.”
Does that happen to you? Did you notice sometimes that you say, “Oh, how come I didn’t wake up for Tahajjud today?” Alhamdulillah, they wake up for Fajr but how about the night prayer? You used to do it. What happened? Rasoolullah (s) said, don’t be like that man who used to wake up for night prayers and then he quit. If you start it, don’t quit. Shaytan comes to you through the halal, “It’s okay. Eat. It’s halal. It’s permissible, mubah. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s not haram.” If he cannot catch you through the small sin or the grand sin, he comes to you through the mubah and halal. “Eat, no problem. It’s halal.” Mashaa-Allah. It’s a da’wah. It’s a feast.
He said, “I approached you one time with that and you slept that night.”
He said, “I promise you from now on I will never ever fill my stomach anymore.”
Sayyidina Yahya (a) humbled himself down. Do you notice that subtlety? Iblees said, “I cannot deceive people like you.” Anyone other than Yahya (a) would have felt kibr. “Mashaa-Allah, a saint like you, I can never deceive you.”
“Of course, I’m a big Wali. You can never deceive me.”
That is kibr. That is arrogance. That is pride. Shaytan approaches you through every trick and trap in the book. If he appeared to you and he said, “Mashaa-Allah. I can never approach you. You have so much aura around you. You have so much energy around you. Mashaa-Allah, people see you as a moving cloud of light.” Do you like it? Yes, you do. Of course. I have been practicing that. Yahya (a) humbled himself down. He did not say, “Yes, I am infallible. Yes, you cannot approach me.” He said, “Did you get me?” When he got him, he said, “I will never do it again.”
Even Yahya (a) made himself a regular person that Shaytan got him and he repented. He made tawbah. He made istighfaar. Nabiyullah, the son of Nabiyullah. They are the greatest men that were ever created. Anbiya. They were created with a specialty that they are able to see Heavens and earth. You only see earth. We never see the Heavens. There are two kinds of specialties. One speciality is they are towards Malakoot. Allah (swt) created that ability to receive. You cannot make that ability within yourself if it’s not there, if Allah (swt) has not ordained it.
Yahya (a) put himself all the way down like an ordinary person. Look at his humbleness. Be a humble one. Don’t say, “Shaytan doesn’t approach me. Mashaa-Allah, I have become a big shaykh of the tariqah, a big `alim at Al-Azhar.” Kibr has taken the hearts of everyone and that is the marad as well. That is also the sickness and disease and the illness in the heart of every `alim and non-`alim, every Wali and non-Wali, of course the pretend Wali. The real Wali has none of that in his heart. His heart is saleem. His heart contains none of that because that is how he tempts you, “Yes, you are a great one.” He blows in you and you think that you are a big one.
Sayyidina Yahya (a) is giving advice to humanity. All of us are from the first group. We will make mistakes but the best of the ones who make mistakes are those who repent and never go back to it. We are from that.
The second group, you see them. He is moving them around the world as he likes. Shaytan is moving the hearts that he captured as he likes. The third group are the infallible ones, the prophets and saints and still they humbled themselves down. They don’t see themselves as special. Don’t see yourself special, rather always humble yourself down. Sayyidina Yusuf (a) said: Wa maa ubarri'u nafsi. I will never ever say my ego is a great one, a free one, a sinless one. Inna ‘n-nafsa la ammasratan bi ‘s-soow.
"Nor do I absolve my own self (of blame): the (human) soul is certainly prone to evil, unless my Lord do bestow His Mercy: but surely my Lord is Oft- forgiving, Most Merciful." (Surah Yusuf, 12:53)
This is the Qur'an. Allah (swt) is teaching you what Nabiyullah has said. Illa ma Rahima Rabbee. Except the ones that Allah (swt) sends the Rahmah and blessings upon that.
That is what we ask. We ask for Rahmah. “Yaa Rabbee. We are running to you for Your Love, for Your Mercy, for Your acceptance.” We are like little kids running here and there but they always run to their parents when they hurt themselves. We run to Allah (swt) when we hurt ourselves spiritually. Whatever you have made of worship, don’t break it. Allah (swt) has said in the Holy Qur’an: Kallatee naqaḍat ghazlaha min baʿdi quwwah.
And be not like a woman who breaks into untwisted strands the yarn which she has spun, after it has become strong. Nor take your oaths to practise deception between yourselves, lest one party should be more numerous than another: for Allah will test you by this; and on the Day of Judgment He will certainly make clear to you (the truth of) that wherein you disagree. (Surat an-Nahl, 16:92)
There was a crazy woman in Mecca. She knit whatever she knit and then out of her craziness, she breaks down everything that she knit. The same thing with the mu’min, with the people of tariqah. You are building up your mi`raj to Allah (swt). Your prayer is mi`raj. Your worship is mi`raj. You are building up your levels until you break them yourself. He said, “Don’t be like that one.”
Don’t take Shaytan as your friend. Don’t take your temptations and desires as your friends. They are not your friends. They will destroy you spiritually. They won’t destroy you physically but sometimes they also destroy you physically. They destroy you spiritually. Your heart is destroyed.
Always run to Allah (swt). Come to His dhikr. Come to His Remembrance. Come to His worship. Follow the way of Anbiya. Follow the way of Awliya and always humble yourself down. Blame yourself for what you have done wrong and ask Allah (swt) to cover you with His Mercy. Don’t boast. Don’t walk with pride and arrogance, “Mashaa-Allah, “I am the peer of the tariqah now.” May Allah (swt) forgive all of us. May Allah (swt) keep us in the presence of Awliyaullah.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
