A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.
Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,
nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa al-`Azheem fee haadha 'l-masjid.
Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)
Salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen wa ‘s-salaatu wa ‘s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi ‘l-mursaleen Sayyidina Muhammad (s) wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajmaeen. A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billahi ‘l-`Aliyyi ‘l-`Azheem wa ufawwidu amree illa-Llah inna Allaha baseerun bi ‘l-`ibaad.
Every time we have to remind each other to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (s) by saying as Grandshaykh said, may Allah bless his soul, always he begins his subhat, whether half-an-hour or three hours or five hours long, by reciting:
أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ
Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)
And he said many times and I never heard it from anyone except him; it is from his secrets that he inherited because:
العلماء ورثة الانبياء
Al-`ulama warathat al-anbiyaa,
Scholars are the inheritors of prophets.
The scholars, not meaning scholars who know this of fiqh or hadith or language or tafseer, but `ulama to whom Allah granted spiritual knowledge:
وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا عِلْمًا
Wa `allamnaahu min ladunna `ilma.
And whom We had taught knowledge from Our Own Presence. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:65)
“We have taught them from Our Heavenly Knowledge,” that kind of `ilm, that kind of heavenly knowledge: `Uloom al-Awwaleen wa ‘l-Akhireen, that `ulama inherited from prophets. Grandshaykh (q) said, “I receive that inspiration from Prophet (s) to my heart. Why do we begin with ‘Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum’? At every moment, every verse of Holy Qur'an that is read has its own specialty or its own criteria or its own secrets, and every moment you read a verse or you pass across a verse of Holy Qur'an, that verse carries you: the power that comes with that verse of Holy Qur'an carries the person reciting it.”
So he said, “When we say ‘atee`oollah,’ it means the person reciting that will be dressed with the whole obedience to Allah (swt) at that moment, and that is from rahmatullah. And if you recite ‘at`ee ar-rasool’ you will be dressed with the obedience of the Prophet (s) to Allah (swt), and from that obedience, Allah will dress you from the dress of Prophet (s). And if you recite ‘wa ooli ‘l-amri minkum,’ Allah will dress you from those who are your guides; whatever they have been dressed you will be dressed at that moment. Each time you recite ‘atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum’ the person reciting and those present will be dressed with obedience to Allah and obedience to Prophet and obedience of ooli ‘l-amr in another manner, each time in a different way than the previous one!”
And as we said before, Allah is not copying each time, not all of them are from a copying machine, He does not need a copying machine as Allah gives endless oceans from His Knowledge. And we will go through this hadith; it is long, but we have to be careful as there are treasures in reciting hadith of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and there are treasures in every dhikrullah and there are treasures in reciting every verse of Holy Qur'an! In this hadith, it is necessary for every Muslim to memorize it. It is a very honorable, high-level hadith from Ibn Musayyib (r). [See entire hadith at end.]
Kharaj `ana Rasoolullahi (s) wa nahnu fee safwatin bi ’l-madeena fa qaama `alaynaa fa qaal, innee ra’aytu al-baarihatu shayun `ajaban. raaytu rajulan min ummatee aataahu malak al-mawt li-yaqbia roohahu fa jaa'ahu birrahu bi waalidayhi fa-radda malak al-mawt `anhu.
One day the Prophet (s) came across us and we were in Madinat al-Munawwarah and the Prophet (s) passed by us, and when he saw us he stood among us and said…(what do you think the Prophet (s) was going to say? Everyone wants to listen!) He said, “Yesterday I saw something that attracted me and made me astonished: I saw the Angel of Death is coming to take the soul of a man. As soon as the Angel of Death came to take his soul, immediately facing the Angel of Death came that man’s sincerity to his father and mother.
As Allah (swt) mentioned in Holy Qur'an:
Wa qadaa rabbuka alaa ta`budoo illa iyyaahu wabi ‘l-walidayni ihsaanan imma yablughanna `indaka al-kibara ahaduhuma aw kilaahuma falaa taqul lahuma uffin wa laa tanharhuma wa qul lahuma qawlan kareeman.
Allah has decreed not to worship anyone except Me and be nice with your mother and father. Whether one or both of them attain old age in their life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. (Surat al-Israa, 17:23)
Allah (swt) made it an obligation. Allah has written in His Book not to worship anyone besides Him and to be good to your parents and don’t say “oof” to them; don’t scold them, don't say to them, “You are old school, we are in the 21st century! We know better than you.” Do they say like that? “You are old-fashioned, old school!” Ay, you are ‘old school’, not them! [Allah is saying,] “Don't say to them ‘oof.’” How many of us say oof to our parents? That means, “I am not happy with what you are saying.”
So that man to whom the Angel of Death was coming to take his soul, immediately his piety and sincerity to his parents came and intervened with the Angel of Death and prevented him to take his soul; Allah gave him back his soul, He didn't take it! Say Allahu Akbar! [Allahu Akbar!] Look, to say to your father and mother something nice, Allah is happy. To say to them something not nice, Allah is not happy. Allah makes your piety and sincerity take a picture full that stands before Malak al-Mawt, the Angel of Death, to prevent him from taking your soul; it comes like an image and looks like you and is full of `ibaadah because it has come with sincerity and piety. For sincere people, Allah (swt) said:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ اتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَكُونُواْ مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Yaa ayyuhalladheena aamanoo 'ttaqoollaah wa koonoo ma` as-saadiqeen.
O you who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are pious (in word and deed).
(Surat at-Tawbah, 9:119)
“O believers! Be sincere with Allah, be pious, wa koonoo ma` as-saadiqeen, Be with the trustworthy ones.” It means if you are following that ayat and you be with the trustworthy ones, then you are guided well and when you are guided well you will be dressed and immediately when that Angel of Death came, that picture came out and it looked like him and that sincerity and piety to his parents came and prohibited the Angel of Death to take his soul. Allahu Akbar! It pushed Malak al-Mawt away!
[Hadith continues.]
ra’aytu rajulan min ummatee qad basata `alayhi `adhaab al-qabr fa-jaahu wudooahu fastanqadhahu min dhaalik.
I saw a man from my ummah whom the punishment of the grave overtook, then his wudu came and freed him from the punishment.
When they put the deceased person in the grave, if he has sins or something bad that grave will press on him and constrain him; he cannot move anymore and it pressures him. Look, this big stone they put over you when someone is dead, they put a slab or a piece of stone, that will press him when everyone goes, that `adhaab al-qabr will press him or there come snakes or comes fire. May Allah save us from that!
Immediately, as that grave wants to press and crush him, that person's ablution came and interceded for him and stopped the grave from pressing him. So that means we have to keep our ablution always and Allah (swt) made us to do our ablution five times a day or ten times a day. When you do prayer, you make ablution at least five times a day. So look how much the ablution can clean a human being and can stop the punishment of the grave! So keep your wudu always, as much as you can, as it can save you from everything, especially from punishment of the grave! The punishment of the grave is dangerous, it is not easy.
When the Earth is shaken to her (utmost) convulsion and the Earth throws up her burdens (from within). (Surat al-Zalzalah, 99:1-2)
“When the Earth shakes, when Allah makes dunya shake,” it means everything will be demolished with its final earthquake and everything inside will come out and everything outside, buildings, will go inside. Allahu Akbar! That is like the grave: a grave shakes you, pressing you, and wudu comes and saves you, saying, “No, no way, stop!” Wastanqadhahu, it doesn’t allow the grave to crush or press on him!
Wa ra’aytu rajulan min ummatee qad ihtawashat-hu ’sh-shayaateen fa jaa'ahu dhikrullaahi `azza wa jall fa khalasahum min baynihim.
.
I saw a man from my nation that all these shaytans were coming around him and trying to take him and possess him.
Too many people today say, “I have Shaytan and I have black magic, I have this and that.” So what happened here?
Immediately his dhikrullah came and saved him from the hands of devils.
Prophet (s) said:
"إِذَا مَرَرْتُمْ بِرِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ فَارْتَعُوا "قَالَ وَمَا رِيَاضُ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ " حِلَقُ الذِّكْرِ
Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet (s) said,"When you pass by the gardens of Paradise, avail yourselves of them." The Companions asked, "What are the gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The circles of dhikr." (Tirmidhi)
“This Paradise in dunya, Jannah, sit in it.” They said, “What is that Paradise, yaa Rasoolullah?” He said, “The circles of dhikr.” And this is now a gathering of dhikrullah, so it is a Garden of Paradise, and people who are sitting here now are in Paradise. So dhikrullah chased away shayateen.
Wa ra’aytu rajulan min ummatee qad ihtawashat-hu malaaikatu ‘l-`adhaab fa ja’at-hu salaatuhu fastanqadhat-hu min aydeehim,
I saw a man from my nation whom the Angels of Punishment are pulling to punishment, and his prayers came and saved that person from the hands of the Angels of Punishment.
Wa ra’aytu rajulan min ummatee yaltahithu `atashan kullamaa warada hawdin muni`a minhu fa jaa’a siyaamuhu fa saqaahu wa rawaahu.
I saw a man from my nation is very thirsty, the Fire is burning him and he is thirsty, and he is always chased away from drinking water when he tries to quench his thirst, then his fast of Ramadan comes and saves him and quenches his thirst with the water.
So are you fasting Ramadan? Don’t worry, Ramadan will come to you in your grave. Would you like Ramadan to come to your grave? [Yes.] Ameen.
Wa ra’aytu rajulan min ummatee wa ’n-nabiyoon qu`ood halqa halqa. Kullamaa danaa li-halaqatin turidahu. Fa jaa’ahu ightisaaluhu min al-janaaba fa akhadahu biyadihi fa qa`adahu ilaa jambee.
I saw a man from my ummah and I saw many prophets sitting in circles. Whenever he comes to a circle of these prophets, he has been chased away, immediately comes his shower that he takes.
Not the western style of shower. Can I say it? Laa hayaat fi ’d-deen, “There is no shyness in religion.” The western shower is that they take shower before they sleep with each other, husband and wife, not after, and after they do what they do they don't take shower; this is a western shower. And for Muslims there are two ways: either you take a shower before you do or you take before and after. Did you understand or I repeat? Why are you laughing? This is Shari`ah; how do you want to learn Shari`ah? The western shower they take before sleeping with each other, that is not accepted. When you ask why they say, “We are sweating.” Okay, take it after because you sweat then, but they say, “No, (we shower) only one time.”
So the Prophet (s) saw one of the members of his nation who is trying to join the circles of prophets and every time he is chased away. Then his taking of shower from greater impurities (ghusl), “comes and takes him by the hand and makes him to sit beside me (s).” So that means take showers. I know many people don't take showers. Yes, look at their faces. They say, “Later in the evening when I come from work.” They are in a hurry [after intimate relations] and they go and they don't think that if they die without a shower they will go to Hellfire. So what they have to do? They must take a shower and many people don't take showers.
Wa ra’aytu rajulan min ummatee bayna yadayhi zhulma, wa min khalfihi zhulma, wa `an yameenihi zhulma, wa an yasaarihi zhulma, wa min tahtihi zhulma, wa min fawqihi zhulma, wa huwa tahayyarun feehaa, fa jaa'ahu hajjahu wa `umratuhu fastakhrajat min zhulmatahu wa ad-khalahu fi ’n-noor.
I saw a man or woman from my nation that in front of him was darkness, on top of him was darkness, behind him was darkness, all over darkness and he is confused. What to do? Whenever he wants to move forward that zhulma comes in front of him, so immediately at that moment his Hajj and `Umrah come and save him and dress him with noor, and takes him out of darkness and puts him in light.
Anyone who did not go for Hajj or `Umrah, raise his hand. Allahu Akbar, too many. Go for Hajj or `Umrah, inshaa-Allah. Fatihah that Allah makes it easy for you to go.
Wa ra'aytu rajulan min ummatee yataqee bi yadihi wahja ’n-naari wa sharara fa jaa`at sadaqatuhu fa saarat sitratun baynahu wa bayna ‘n-naar.
I saw a man from my nation, my ummah and he is trying to stop with his hand the flame of fire which is coming on him, but he cannot, still the flame is coming, and at that moment his donation, his sadaqa comes immediately and it becomes like sitra, a shield, between him and Hellfire.
Wa ra'aytu rajulan min ummatee yukalimu ‘l-mu’mineena walaa yukalimoonahu. fa jaa’at silatuhu li rehmihee fa qaalat yaa ma`shara ‘l-muslimeen innahu kaana wasoolan li rahmihi fa kalamoohu,
I saw a man from my nation who speaks with people and the people do not speak with him, he speaks with the believers and they don't speak with him, and his establishing of blood relations, (because it is an obligation in Islam to visit those who are blood relations), and that good relationship of the womb comes and saves him.
Look how much Allah gave honor to the womb of women and still they say they have no rights. What rights? You have more rights! In that hadith they are coming to you and that is the relationship of the womb; where is that from? From the mother. So that womb relations comes and tells the believers, “O mu’mins, that man was always establishing relations with his family and so speak to him,” so at that moment, the believers greet him and shake his hands and speak to him.
That is a very strong hadith (hasanan jiddan) and is in book by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziya, student of ibn Taymiyya. We are quoting from them in order not to say, “O this is hadith da`eef!” Hadhaa hadeethun hasanan jiddan.
May Allah (swt) forgive us. We will continue that hadith next time.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

This particular hadith is mentioned in Dr. `Umar Ashqar's (the former student of Albani, also well known for his care and knowledge in ahadith amongst his students) book, `Alam al-Jinn wa ’sh-Shayaateen. Also, from the book, Al-Waabil as-Sayyib min al-Kalim at-Tayyib, by Ibn Qayyim, he quotes the following hadith. This hadith was complied from At-Tabarani (al-Kabir) [39/25], as stated in this book (1998, published by Dar Kotub Al-Ilmiyah).
This hadith has the grade of hasan jadidan (very good) and is the topic of a book by Al-Hafizh Abu Musa Al-Madee, as stated by Ibn Qayyim, entitled, Targheeb Al-Khasal Al-Munjiyya wa Tarheeb min Al-Khalil al-Murdiyya, in which the author went into greater detail about a dream that Prophet Muhammad (s) had seen. It is said that ibn Taymiyyah honored this hadith quite highly.
On the authority of Sayyid ibn Musayyib (r), who heard from Abdur-rahman ibn Samura ibn Jundab (r), who said that the Prophet (s) came out one day towards them. "We were in Madinah and he (s) stood up and said:
‘I have seen wonders last night.
‘I have seen a man from my ummah and the Angel of Death came to take his soul, and his kindness towards his parents came and pushed the Angel of Death away from him.
‘I saw a man from my ummah whom the punishment of the grave overtook, then his wudu came and freed him from the punishment.
‘I saw a man of my ummah whom the devils overwhelmed, then his remembrance of Allah came to him and pushed the devils away from him.
'I saw a man of my ummah who was losing his breath due to extreme thirst. Every time he came close to a pool he is turned away, then his fasting Ramadhan came to him and gave him to drink, which quenched his thirst.
'I saw a man of my ummah whom I had seen with the prophets sitting down in circles, and if he were to come near to one he was turned away, then his ghusl from janaba took him by the hand and put him next to the Prophet Muhammad (s).
'I saw a man of my ummah in front of whom was darkness from all directions (behind, on the sides, below, above, etc.), and he was confused, then his performing Hajj and Umrah came along and took him from the darkness and put him in noor.
'I saw a man of my ummah with his hand avoiding the heat and spark of Hellfire, then his charity came along and became a barrier between him and the naar. Also, this charity shaded his head.
'I saw a man of my ummah trying to talk to the believers, but they do not speak to him, then his enjoining the ties of kinship came along and said, “Oh Muslims, he was fulfilling the ties of kinship, so talk to him.” So, the believers starting talking to him and shook hands with him, and he shook hands with them.
'I saw a man of my ummah whom the angels of Hellfire (az-Zabannya) overwhelmed him. His enjoining the good and forbidding the evil came along and freed him from their hands and put him with the angels of mercy.
'I saw a man of my ummah kneeling on his knees, and between him and Allah (swt), there is a veil, then his good manners (husna khoolq) came and took him by his hand and put him in the company of Allah (swt).
'I saw a man of my ummah whose book went to his left hand, then his fear of Allah came along and took his book from his left hand and put it in his right hand.
'I saw a man of my ummah whose scale was light, then his young children, who passed away during their youth, came and made his scale heavy.
'I saw a man of my ummah standing on the edge of Hellfire, then his hopes in Allah (swt) freed him from that, and he proceeded away from Hellfire.
'I saw a man of my ummah who went to Hellfire, then his tear from crying out of the fear of Allah and freed him from that.
'I saw a man of my ummah standing on the Siraat (over Hellfire), shaking like a leaf that shakes during a severe storm, then his husna dhan in Allah (thinking good in Allah) came along and calmed his fear down, so he proceeded.
'I saw a man of my ummah crawling on his stomach over the Siraat, and sometimes he was crawling in this fashion, and sometimes he was hanging, then his salaat on the Prophet (s) came along and helped him to stand up on his feet, and saved him.
'I saw a man of my ummah who was at the gates of Jannah, but the gates closed before him, then his shahaadah ('laa ilaaha illa-Llah') came along and opened the gates for him and put him in Jannah.’”
