The Hadith that Every Muslim Must Know (Part 2)

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

12 April 2014   Burton, Michigan

Suhbah at As-Siddiq Mosque

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

?????????? ?????? ???????????? ?????????? ????????? ???????? ???????

Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

Every `amal you do is according to the intention. I am not a teacher, I am not more educated than you, I am standing at our shuyookh’s door since I was young and they tried, because our mind, the brain, is in this shape and there are doctors here [who can verify], and everything is connected to a small chip at the bottom. Is this correct, doctor? That is the memory, so small that engineers up to today cannot make one like that. My chip is broken now, so [there is] no replacement and no hope except for support of awliyaullah.

So if we look at `azhaamtullah, punishment of Allah (swt), it would be impossible to do anything. That is why Prophet (s) said:

???? ??????? ???????

Innama ‘l-`amaalu bi ’n-niyyaat.

Every action is according to (its) intention. (Bukhari)

Every `amal is according to the niyyah, according to your intention.” For example, you intended to go for Hajj and you were not able to go for some reason and you died before doing it. What is your situation before Allah? You are asked, “Did you do Hajj?” “Yes, yaa Rabb, my intention was to do it.It will be rewarded to you, written for you as a good `amal because you had good intention, although you did not do it. Do everything with a good niyyah, with good intention for your parents, relatives, neighbors, for your community. Don't be munaafiq, don't say good words for people to hear and on the other hand you are stabbing them!

That is why Prophet (s) explained there are two kind of niyyah:

???? ??????? ??????? , ????? ??? ???? ?? ??? , ??? ???? ????? ??? ???? ?????? , ?????? ??? ???? ?????? , ??? ???? ????? ????? ?????? ?? ????? ?????? , ?????? ??? ?? ???? ????

Verily actions are by intentions, and for every person is what he intended. So the one whose emigration was to Allah and His Messenger, then his emigration was to Allah and His Messenger, and the one whose emigration was for the world to gain from it, or a woman to marry him, then his emigration was to what he made it. (Bukhari and Muslim)

So if your intention is only dunya, you will find and see where dunya will take them on the Day of Judgment. If your intention is Allah and His Prophet (s), then you will find Allah and His Prophet and be there in their Presence. So if your intention is dunya, then you will find dunya in Akhirah and if your intention is Allah and His Prophet (s), you are going to find Allah and His Prophet in Akhirah. There is nothing else. So let us say to ourselves, “O my self! You are playing with me. I want Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s), but you are telling me ‘dunya and dunya’. Which is better, Allah and His Prophet (s) or dunya? Allah and His Prophet (s), and Akhirah is the Right Way!

I mentioned last time a long hadith; we mentioned half of it, from Al-Waabil as-Sayyib min al-Kalaam at-Tayyib, a book written by ibn Qayyim al-Jawziya (r) and he was a student of ibn Taymiyya. I read that to mention all that they (Wahhabis) wrote in their `ilm, their fiqh, but today they are ignoring it and it is their own materials. And ibn Qayyim said this hadith is hassan jiddan, a very strong hadith. That is why before we come to the hadith we have to be ready; to be ready is to remember Allah (swt) in every action you do, because He said:

????????????? ???????????? ???????????? ??? ????? ???????????

Fadhkuroonee adhkurkum, w ’ashkuroo lee wa laa takfuroon.

Remember Me, I will remember you. Give thanks to Me and do not be ungrateful towards Me.

(Surat al-Baqarah, 2:152)

Remember Me,” He did not say “remember Me one hour a day,” but it means, “Remember Me when you wake up, that I gave you your soul back which I took when you were sleeping and returned it; I took all but one part, which I left in your body then I gave it back.” Because the person sleeping is like dead person. If Allah takes that soul away, if you put one dead and one alive next to each other, both sleeping, what do you see? Either you see two dead or you think both are alive, but in reality one is dead one is alive, so don’t be dead, be alive with dhikrullah! Nothing makes you alive except dhikrullah. So He said, “Idhkuroonee, mention Me,” not just “remember Me” only.  “Idhkuroonee, Mention only Me, don’t put someone else there, don’t put your ego there! I am The One to be mentioned. I am The One that every servant is obedient to Me. I am The One Who controls Maalik al-Mulk, the whole Kingdom is in My hands! I am The One Who owns you. Mention Me and remember Me, that I can make the whole world disappear like I made the airplane to disappear! Thirty days now and they cannot find the airplane (Flight MH370) with all they have, and they say they went to the moon but they cannot find the airplane? How did they go to the moon? If Allah wants, everything happens.

Sayyidina Muhammad (s) went to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa, beyond the universe! Whenever I remember Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa I become drunk to think, how it happened? That Greatness that Allah (swt) gave to Sayyidina Muhammad (s) to be in Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa, and we are here fighting with each other! Like a plane that they cannot find, can you find yourself? Inshaa-Allah. If you have a ring and you throw it in a desert, can you find it? In [laws of] statistics, there might be a possibility in finding the ring, so then you might find it. In [laws of] probability, you can find the ring, it is very difficult but you can; you might be able to find a ring in a desert, but you are not able to find yourself! You are unable to know the pride and arrogance and the bad desires of the self, that is more difficult. That is why sainthood doesn't come easy.

You have here,mashaa-Allah, a doctor on the right and a doctor on the left and this one, if you go to him and say, “I am sick,” he says, “Do a CAT scan, MRI, X-ray.” Why? “Because I am unable to find the disease without that X-ray.” He is unable to confirm the diagnosis without that. Now they go for MRIs, which is deeper to detect everything there, but no one can detect the self. The self what is dressing you, they cannot detect; they can detect everything in the body, but they cannot detect the self! Only Allah (swt) knows you:

???????? ????? ?????????  ????????????? ?????????? ????????????

Wa nafsin wa maa sawwaaha fa alhamahaa fujuoorahaa wa taqwaahaa.

By the Soul and the proportion and order given to it and its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right.

 (Surat al-Shams, 91:7,8)

The self and He made it in the Right Way. [Adhan] Allahu akbar! Aammanaa wa saddaqnaa.

What do you want better than that? SubhaanAllah. Wa nafsin wa maa sawwaaha , “The self and how He designed it, and informed the self, inspired the self with what is good and what is bad.” So the self knows what is good and what is bad. Why the self is not teaching us what is good and what is bad? You cannot! Of course, the bad desires are stopping it. That is why you need a doctor to find your sickness. And even that doctor has to have an MRI, magnetic resonance image. What does it give you? “Image” not the reality! It gives you an idea. So you need these doctors; you have to stand at their thresholds and their doors in order they open for us their guidance in order to go straightforward. That is why they tell you, “Follow the hadith of Prophet (s), follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (s),” if you really want the truth and you love Allah (swt):

???? ??? ??????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???????????? ?????? ?????????? ?????? ??????????? ???????? ??????? ????????

Qul in kuntum tuhibboona 'Llaaha fattabi`oonee yuhbibkumullaahu wa yaghfir lakum dhunoobakum w 'Allaahu Ghafooru 'r-Raheem.

Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:31)

Allah said it in Holy Qur’an. So they tell you to find a way and you have to remember to mention The One Who designed you. Who can give you the understanding of the ego, of your desires, of your self but The One who created it? Wa nafsin wa maa sawwaahaa, He fixed it and designed it and inspired it with what is good and what is bad; it means Allah gave you a knowledge of what is good and what is bad. So you need a guide to tell you, these doctors, these shuyookh who do “Heavenly MRIs,” if we can say that, to find the problem. Then they tell you what you have to take of medicine and of awraad; there is nothing different. What are the awraad? Dhikrullah? Fadhkuroonee adhkurkum, “When you remember Me and love Me, I will remember you.” When Allah says, “I love you and remember you.” If Allah says, “I love you,” is it like the way we remember Him? No way! When Allah (swt) says, I will remember you and I will love you, because when you remember Me it means you love Me.”

So you wake up in your life in the morning and what do you do? You drink, [Mawlana opens a water bottle] with no wudu, no “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem,” nothing! Some take cigarettes and smoking is the first thing they do in the morning, no prayers! So our duty is...when Allah says, “I remember you,” it means He is dressing you with the knowledge to know yourself!

?? ??? ???? ??? ??? ???

Man `arafa nafsahu faqad `arafa rabbah.

Who knows his self knows his Lord.

The hadith is saying, “Who knows himself verily knows His Creator.” It means Allah gave you a way to know yourself! Why are you not using it? What is the way that Allah gave you to know yourself?

???? ???? ??? ?? ????? ????? ???

Tafakkarru sa`atin khayrun min `ibaadati saba`een sannah.

To remember Allah (swt) (contemplate or meditate) for one hour is better than seventy years of worship.

It means to sit and meditate even for five minutes is better than seventy years of voluntary worship, that Allah will reward to you more than seventy years of voluntary worship. Allahu Akbar! That is beyond our minds! From one side He says, “Know yourself and you will know your Lord,” and how to know yourself? To meditate or contemplate for one hour is equivalent to worship of seventy years. So if you make meditation for five minutes, sit facing the qiblah, connect yourself to the one you love, Sayyidina Muhammad (s), and then to Ka`abatullah, from Prophet (s) to Ka`aba, there you will be rewarded, that five minutes is more than seventy years of voluntary worship, and ten minutes is 140 years, and for a hundered minutes you will get reward of 70,000 years. Allahu Akbar! And you are living in your life on average seventy years, and you are living seventy years in five minutes of meditation; you did seventy years’ worth of rewards by Allah (swt). When He says, “Remember Me! I will remember you in My Presence and My Presence is not like your presence,” your presence is an imitation, like children playing, but when Allah remembers us in His Divine Presence, in His Association, there is no comparison!

So when you get this level, fadhkuroonee adhkurkum, Remember Me and I will remember you,” as soon as you remember Him, Allah, all your sins are gone as Allah doesn’t like dirtiness. When you say “Allah,” every sin on you will be erased, because Allah is looking at you at that time, is making dhikr, fadhkuroonee adhkurkum, “Remember Me and I will remember you, I mention you, introducing you, ‘This is My servant, look after him.’” His mentioning is not like ours! He does not look at something dirty, it must be clean, so everything on you will be dissolved, will disappear, and you appear in a pure form, pure appearance, the appearance of Heavens, and slowly, slowly you are increasing, increasing.

That is how awliyaullah reach, through dhikrullah. So when you are in that level and being dressed with it, dressed with what? We don’t know. Allah dresses you from His `Azhama, His Greatness, you cannot compare it to anything, you cannot imagine it as it is beyond our thinking. It takes us where? How much He rewards us, how much He manifests His tajalli of Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes we don't know, but what we know is that He says, “If you make meditation, I give you seventy years of rewards. I mention you and clean you as I don't look at something dirty. I make you pure and subtle and put a heavenly dress on you. Then what do you have to do? Washkuroo lee, Thank Me, that I am giving you this.

When someone gives you a gift, what do you do? You thank him; not only that, you run after him day and night thanking him to show your appreciation for what he gave! And if he gave you this much, you praise him this much, or if He gave you that much, you have to praise Him more.

Look how Allah (swt) is teaching His servants humbleness:

????? ??????? ????? ??????? : ????? ?????? ????? ??????? ??? ??????? ?????? ????? ??????????? ? ???? ????????? ??? ???????? ?????????? ??? ??????? ? ?????? ????????? ??? ?????? ?????????? ??? ?????? ?????? ??????? ? ?????? ????????? ??????? ??????? ??????????? ???????? ???????? ? ?????? ????????? ??????? ???????? ??????????? ???????? ?????? ? ?????? ???????? ??????? ???????? ??????????? " .

Allah the Praised and Glorified said: “I am as My servant thinks I am. I am with him when he mentions Me. If he mentions Me to himself, I mention him to Myself, and if he mentions Me in an assembly, I mention him in an assembly better than it, and if he draws near to Me a hand’s span, I draw near to him an arm’s length, and if he draws near to Me an arm’s length, I draw near to him a fathom’s length, and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running!”

 (Narrated Abu Hurayrah, Hadith Qudsi)

Allah is teaching us, “Anyone who comes to Me by one hand, I will come to him by one arm! Anyone who comes to Me walking, I come to him running.” Allahu Akbar! So what is He saying, “After I give you all this I need only one thing: thank Me!”

????????????? ???????????? ???????????? ??? ????? ???????????

Fadhkuroonee adhkurkum, washkuroo lee wa laa takfuroon.

Remember Me, I will remember you. Give thanks to Me and do not be ungrateful towards Me.

(Surat al-Baqarah, 2:152)

“Thank me and don't be ungrateful.” Here, wa laa takfuroon is not as they mentioned in some translations as ‘disbelief,’ but it is “to be ungrateful.” In Arabic, not every mention of kufr’ means leaving Islam; here it means “denying My Favors, to be ungrateful of what I gave you; don't be ungrateful.” Ishkuroo lee, “Thank Me and don't be ungrateful to what I gave you.”

O Muslims! I will read a little bit of this hadith and then we will stop. We mentioned them last time. I think `Ali has to put them behind each other. He will put this one in sequence.[1]

On the authority of Sa`eed ibn al-Musayyib (r), who heard from Abdur-Rahman ibn Samura ibn Jundab (r), who said that the Prophet (s) came out one day towards them. "We were in Madinah and he (s) stood up and said:

‘I have seen wonders last night.
