The Enduring Advice of Sayyidina Muhammad (s)

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

5 December 2014 Burton, Michigan

Jumu`ah Khutbah at As-Siddiq Mosque

As-salaamu `alaykum. O Muslims, believers!

Hold fast to Allah's rope and do not separate. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:103)

That means Allah wants us to unite and called us Ummah an-Nabi (s) in singular, not plural, not “different nations”.

You are the best of Nations evolved for Mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong and believing in Allah. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:110)

“You are the best of Ummahs that came to humanity because you call for good and prohibit what is bad.” So in this verse, Allah wants us to be together; He doesn't like us to segregate, but to be together and He wants to show the relationship from mu'min to mu'min and from Muslim to Muslim, not pulling the carpet from under others but all of us together following the rope of Allah (swt), which is Prophet (s)! It means to follow Islam, Allah (swt) wants us to be one hand, not separating. This masjid is a strong building, and the believers are like that; you have to part of that, a huge building tied together. Therefore, the whole Ummah has to agree on issues.

What is permitted is clear and what is forbidden is clear. (Narrated An-Numan bin Bashir, Tirmidhi)

Allah showed you the halaal and haraam, so try to apply it

The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body: when any limb of it aches the whole body aches because of sleeplessness and fever.

(Narrated Nu'man bin Bashir, Bukhari and Muslim)

The example of believers is that there is mercy between them, when they are together they're like a body: if one part of the body is sick the whole body is sick. The Muslims are part of each other. when they see something wrong they try to teach others to avoid it, and when they are together, they hold together, like the body: if one part is sick the whole body is sick. Sometimes you have a pimple somewhere and it changes the temperature and the whole body can get sick from one sore, a bite. It means don't let Shaytan attack you or the whole body might get sick.

Allah (swt) said He doesn't want us to fight. Abu Hurayrah (r) narrated that the Prophet (s) said:

Do not envy one another, and do not inflate prices for one another, and do not hate one another, and do not turn away from one another, and do not undercut one another in trade, but (rather) be slaves of Allah and brothers (amongst yourselves). A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim: he does not oppress him, nor does he fail him, nor does he lie to him, nor does he hold him in contempt. Taqwa (piety) is right here [and he pointed to his chest three times]. It is evil enough for a man to hold his brother Muslim in contempt. The whole of a Muslim is inviolable for another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honor.” (Muslim)

Laa tahaasadoo, don't get jealous from one another. Today we are all getting jealous, thinking, “Why did he get that position? Why is he there?” Don't get jealous because that sickness is there and that cursed one will throw jealoust and envy in you!

Say: I seek refuge with the Lord and Cherisher of Mankind, The King (or Ruler) of Mankind, The Allah (for judge) of Mankind, From the mischief of the Whisperer (of Evil), who withdraws (after his whisper), (The same) who whispers into the hearts of Mankind, Among Jinns and among men. (Surat an-Naas: 144, 1-6)

Prophet (s) said don't listen to what Shaytan whispers in your ears, then there will be no way to let the hasad enter your heart. Also, do not compete in raising prices to sell something, try to make the prices reasonable; and don't get angry with each other, don't hate each other. There is hatred among Muslims in the Middle East, although Allah (sat) said, “Don't hate each other.” It means listen to the advice of others, at least no hate will increase in your heart even if you don't like it. And don't turn your back against your brother. And, O servants of Allah, be brothers and sisters! The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim, he doesn't oppress him. Today there is too much oppression everywhere, leaders to leaders, countries to countries, leaders over their citizens.

Prophet (s) said 1400 years ago, “Don't try to compete with each other in selling or don't drop your price or raise your price, to tease your neighbor.”

O Muslims! Be brothers and sisters. The Muslim is a brother of the Muslim, which means you cannot oppress him by words or by any means, not in any way! Even if someone might talk bad about him, don't oppress your brother because if that is not true, it will be doubtful and Prophet (s) didn't like doubting.

O you who have believed! Avoid much (negative) assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin.

(Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:12)

Avoid too much doubting as many rumors are false, so don't oppress each other (by spreading gossip and rumors). Today people oppress everyone and countries oppress their citizens. Don’t make someone look bad, don't humiliate them, nor families, nor countries, nor your Muslim brother! Then Allah is happy with you and if you don't do this, taqwa is here, and he put his hand on his heart.

Taqwa, sincerity is when you veil the mistakes of your sister and brother and when they do something good, you promote it and don't get jealous. Everything that a Muslim carries, such as the blood in his body, is haraam [for anyone to abuse]. You can't kill him and take out the blood, you can't steal from him! What is happening today with Muslims, are they fighting each other? From far east to far west killing is happening! That is why Prophet (s) said:

Among the Signs of the Last Days there will be days when too much ignorance will come to the hearts of people and knowledge will be lifted up and in these days there will be too much fear and too much killing.

(Abdullah ibn Mas`ood, Bukhari and Muslim)

To steal your money is haraam, yet they go into the homes and take the money and ladies, and throw out the men and children; they are beheading. Who gave you that permission? Prophet (s) prohibited the burning of people when you're fighting [a war], but they are burning people alive, to put them to death they burn them! All these hadiths are muttafaqun `alayh, Bukhari and Muslim agreed on them.

Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales. Do not look for other's faults. Do not spy on one another and do not practice overpricing. (Narrated Abu Hurayrah, Muslim)

This is a big warning from Prophet (s) about doubting people, because you might accuse your brother of what he didn't do and cause problems in the community, the masjid, etc. Doubting is at the top of the list of lying, to lie in your speech, and all these speeches are lies. You fabricate stories; do not fabricate stories, don’t lie and don't spy on each other; don't check what they are doing, don't compete. Allah (swt) doesn't like people to compete except in worshipping. Today in the Gulf they build high rises, then to compete the others build even taller high-rises, that is what is happening today. Compete in worshipping Allah! That is why Allah doesn't like any of us to be alone, He wants us to be united. May Allah keep us united under the rope of Allah, keep us as one hand.
