Urs of Khwaja Nizamuddin Awliya (q)

Man yahdihi ‘Llahu fa-laa mudilla lahu wa man yudlil fa laa haadiya lah. Alhamdulillahi ‘Lladhee hadaanaa li ’l-islaami wa maa kunnaa la-nahtadi law laa an hadaana ‘Llah. Ayyuha l-muslimoon, ayyuha l-mu’minoon, ayyuha l-haadiroon, as-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

I have been asked to say some words and in a short time, but what I have to say and whatever anyone says about Khwaja Nizamuddin Awliya (q) is not giving the right to that big wali. You can put words together as much as you like, but in reality he deserves more. I read something about him and found a similarity between him and my shaykh, may Allah bless their souls. He did not have any money but charity and he would give out whatever came to his hand and more. People were astonished that from where does he get that money, because he gave more than he ever got. When Allah gives, He gives. When Allah loves someone, He gives him everything. I will quote one ayah of the Holy Qur’an about those saints whom Allah made happy in their lives to always make dhikrullah, remembering their Lord Who created them. Allah says in the Holy Qur'an:

بَلْ أَحْيَاء عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ

No, they live, finding their sustenance provided in the Presence of their Lord.

(Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:169)

They are alive in their graves, in the Divine Presence provided. Allah provides them when they are in their graves. He made them alive according to that ayah in the Holy Qur’an, although they are in their graves. Their graves have become a paradise. They are the ones living and we are dead, because we do not know ourselves. It is said:

Who knows himself knows his Lord.

All of us know something, but our knowledge is not perfect. Those awliyaullah have perfection in their knowledge, so they know their limits, but we do not. Allah (swt) gave them that power so that they can guide their followers to the right way. Shaykh Nizamuddin (q) is not an ordinary person, he was able to his nation, all of his followers on his shoulders. Who is alive and who is dead? The dead cannot move in the grave and cannot call people or ask them to visit, because they are dead. However, we are seeing the opposite; all kinds of people: Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and all other beliefs are coming and visiting him. Who is alive? Him or us? Who is visiting us? Can we call people in hundreds, thousands or millions? In his grave, he is able to call millions to come visit him from all over the world, he has that power! What do you think when he was alive, what kind of power he had? It must be some kind of extraordinary power that we don’t know, but we know from the hadith of the Prophet (s) that Allah said:

عبدي اطعني أجعلك ربانيا تقول لشيئ كن فيكون

My slave! Obey Me and I will make you Rabbaani, Lordly, so you say to something “Be!” and it will be (exist). (Hadith Qudsi)

“O My servant, obey Me. If you obey Me, I will make you lordly. I will make you to have power from the Divine Presence to say to something ‘Be!’ and it will be.” Those who came to look at his face, he reflected his power from his face to make them awliyaullah, without any tiredness from them! They get that level, because they can give them that reflection of knowledge and light directly to their hearts. Min al-qalbi ilaa l-qalbi sabeela. It is said that what Allah (swt) poured into the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) he poured into the heart of Siddiq (r). Whatever Allah has given of knowledge to the Prophet (s), from that knowledge (not all), was poured into the heart of Sayyidina Abu Bakr Siddiq (r). Awliyaullah can pour into the hearts without you running after it, they will give to you, and they will give you without any requirements, such as going through universities to get knowledge. It was not like this in the previous days. Awliyaullah were able to convert people from ignorance to knowledge only by looking at them with their eyes!

The cousin of the Prophet (s) who was very dear to him, Sayyidina Quthum Ibn `Abbas (r), was sent to Central Asia in order to teach them about Islam, and I believe Khwaja Nizamuddin (q) has visited that area. Quthum Ibn `Abbas (r) didn’t know the language of Central Asia, but he was bringing thousands of people into Islam without knowing their language. Anyone who saw him and looked into his eyes was attracted and turned to Islam. That reality that Allah has put into the hearts of sincere and pious people makes them to be like a magnet, they can attract you. This is Sultan al-Awliya, if we can say that, Khwaja Nizamuddin (q) was also able to attract people by looking into their eyes. Allah gave us eyes to reflect images, to see what you cannot see and to hear what you cannot hear; he was of that type. I am mostly quoting from the Holy Qur’an to show that the power of these awliya is alive, they are not dead.

In a Hadith Qudsiyy recorded in Sahih Bukhari, the Prophet (s) said that Allah (swt) said:

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”).

“I will be his eyes that he can see with, I will be his tongue that he can speak with, I will be his hands that he can change things with, I will be his feet that he walks with.” As long as you approach Him, and the condition is that you must approach Allah (swt), He will give you everything, He will give you hearing that people cannot hear. Now what you and I hear is worldly hearing; when I say something you hear it and vice versa. These are worldly things, but Allah (swt) will give you Divinely Hearing power and then you will hear angels, you will hear knowledge, you will hear awliya.

If we bring a TV here, it shows you a picture and sound. How does such a small screen see and hear? And what Allah created and put in our hearts, we are not able to hear and see, like a screen is. A small screen is able to pick up electromagnetic waves and turn them into video and audio. Our hearts that Allah has created and gave us that power, are not able to see and hear? These awliya are able to see and hear, they have screens and sound systems in their heart, they have a system of power so that they may reach anywhere. Now the technology is digital, before that it was analog, and tomorrow after digital, it will become super digital. Then you will be able to see more.

That is a creation of human beings, what about the creation of Allah (swt)? Does Allah give less or more? We have to open our mind. The Prophet (s) said it 1400 years ago, “As long as you go by voluntary worship to love Allah, not by obligations, as you must do the obligations whether you like it or not, but voluntary worshipness is to love people, to love Allah (swt) and the Prophet (s). That was the secret that Khwaja Nizamuddin (q) was using: the power of love. Allah is saying to people, “O people! Approach Me, I will love you. When I love you, I will give things to hear that no one can hear, I will make you to see things what others do not see, I will make you to speak even without knowledge.” That is why a Bedouin came to the Prophet (s) and asked:

A Bedouin came to the Prophet (s) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (s)! When will the Hour be established?" The Prophet (s) said, "What have you prepared for it?" The Bedouin said, "I have not prepared anything for it, except that I love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet (s) said, "You will be with those whom you love!" (Narrated Anas Ibn Malik, Bukhari)

“Tell me about the Day of Judgement?” The Prophet (s) said, “It is a long travel, what did you prepare for that day?” What have all of us prepared? Are you fasting and praying? Yes, but these are obligations, you must perform them. These are laws, just like you have to follow the laws of your country. What are you doing voluntarily without anyone asking you? What are you doing to help people? So the Bedouin asked this question and the Prophet (s) said, “This is a long travel, what have you prepared for it?” And this famous saying the Bedouin answered, “It is not that I am doing much praying and fasting, but I love you Rasoolullah (s), I love Allah (swt), I love the Sahaabah (r), I love all of humanity, I love everyone. That is the ticket I prepared.” And what did the Prophet (s) say?

Each person will be resurrected with the one he loves. (Tirmidhi)

“You will be with the one you love.” If you love Allah, you will be in the Divine Presence, if you love the Prophet (s) you will be with him. If you love your family, you will be with them. If you love your wali, Khwaja Nizamuddin Awliya (q), you will be with him on the Day of Judgement.

That is why on my last visit, I asked at his grave, “Are you going to intercede for us? We have come a long way, thousands and thousands of kilometers or miles, here to see you.” By the way, he is not here, this is just a grave. He is somewhere else, Allah knows where. “Are you going to intercede for us, are you going to support us on the Day of Judgement?” That is what we want, we are coming here because of your love. We are loving you, we need you to intercede for all of us, we need you to help us.”

When on that Day there will be no help in between Allah’s Hands, when He calls us for judgement, you have to be very careful. Allah gave the Prophet (s) the power to intercede for us and the Prophet (s) gives awliyaullah from his power to intercede for their followers and the Ummah.

I was looking at the grave and saw non-Muslims, not Indian, Hindu or Buddhist, but Europeans or Americans coming to visit him. What do you think will happen to them on the Day of Judgement? Is it not the responsibility of Khwaja Nizamuddin Awliya (q)? If someone comes to your door, you don’t close it. Awliyaullah open their door. So what are you going to do with these Europeans or Westerners who are visiting you, leave them behind? No way! Allah (swt) gave them power, in order for them to turn these people to lovers of Allah and lovers of the Prophet (s) and to lovers of awliyaullah. This is what we believe and this is his 800th anniversary. May Allah (swt) make it more and more and give him more and more in order that we will benefit. He doesn’t benefit, he is giving what he has to us and dressing us. He doesn’t benefit except he will be happy in front of Allah (swt) that he brought some people to his garden. This is his small garden here tonight and if we go outside, the biggest garden is there, but here is his private garden about which the Prophet (s) is happy and said:

إذا مررتم برياض الجنة فارتع. قالو وما رياض الجنة؟ قال "حلق الذكر

"When you pass by the Gardens of Paradise, avail yourselves of them." The Companions asked: "What are the Gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "The circles of dhikr.” (Tirmidhi)

Prophet (s) said to his Sahaabah (r) and it applies to everyone, “If you pass by the gardens of Heavens in dunya, sit there.” The Sahaabah (r) asked, “What are the gardens Heavens?” He said, “These circles where they remember Allah, the Prophet (s) and awliyaullah.” According to that hadith, this place is a piece of Heaven now. Allah’s Name is being mentioned and remembered, we are remembering the Prophet (s) and awliyaullah. So be happy, don’t be sad, this life is ending. Everyone has an end. The one who is happy with his Lord, will succeed. The one who is happy with his Prophet (s), will succeed. The one happy with these awliyaullah, will succeed. May Allah forgive us.As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.Bi hurmati ‘l-habib bi hurmati ‘l-Fatihah.
