Supplication: Day of Arafat

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

26 May 2026 Fenton, Michigan USA

What do they do at Arafat? Dhikr, remembrance of Allah (swt).

Dastoor, yaa Sayyidee, madad.

Ad-Dhikr wa ‘l-fikar. Did you go to Hajj? What did you do at Arafat? Did you chat with your buddies? If you did that, you lost. In Arafat you are busy with Dhikrullah through prayers, du`a, Qur’an, Darood shareef. You are busy with the remembrance of Allah (swt) and busy with reflection, contemplation on your past life, your present life, your future life, reflecting upon the signs of Allah (swt). Ad-Dhikr wa ‘l-fikar.

Who is more on your mind on Arafat? Allah (swt). Who is less on your mind? Dunya. If you are still talking about dunya while you are on Arafat, look at what you’re wearing. What are you wearing? Ihram. What is ihram? It is detachment from worldly luxuries, pleasures, and status. Do you have a crown? Do you put your medal on the towel? It is detachment. If you are on Arafat and still remembering dunya, look at your ihram. You have left behind status. Does anybody know if you’re a president when you go to Hajj with the towels on you, with the ihram? Does anybody recognize if you are the CEO of whichever corporation? Does anybody know that you’re a billionaire? Does anybody know that you’re a prince? Does anybody know that you’re an `alim? Does anybody know that you’re anything?

You have detached. You have left behind status. You have left behind wealth. You have left behind luxuries. What do you have on you? Simple towels. On Arafat what becomes bigger in your heart is who? Allah (swt). When you say, “Yaa Rabbee. I am intending to go to Hajj,” what do you say? When you put the ihraam on, you have to bring, labbayk Allahumma labbayk. You have to say it. What does that mean? “I am for You.” What does that mean? You have corrected your intentions. You have corrected your focus. You have corrected your heart. Allah (swt) wants you to correct your focus and attention and intention and heart all the time so that you say, “Yaa Rabbee. I am here at Your service, for You.”

Allah (swt) has become greater in your heart. Do you have an iPhone or an iPad? I have no idea what they do now on Arafat. “We have to read off the screens.” Okay, read off the screens but you are there for Dhikrullah, for tafakkur, for remembering Allah (swt) and you are shunning everything else. You are letting go. Your intention has been corrected. You refocused, recalibrated to make Allah (swt) your main focus on Arafat. Dhikrullah, tafakkur upon the signs of Allah (swt) makes Allah (swt) closer and bigger in your heart.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ

Yaa ayyuha ‘l-muddaththir, qum fa andhir wa Rabbaka fakkabir.

O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! Arise and deliver thy warning! And thy Lord do thou magnify! (Surat al-Muddaththir, 74:1-3)

If you want to come to Allah (swt), you have to magnify your Lord in your heart. You have to make Allah (swt) take over your heart. Rasoolullah (s) covered himself. Spiritually we are covered with the darknesses of the ego. They left their ego behind as well. Detachment from the social rank, the social status and the ego. No more of that. Wa Rabbaka fakkabir.

You want to come to Me, you have to magnify the Presence of your Lord in your heart. What happens when you do that? You have glorified His Greatness more and more in your heart. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) indicated the following verse.

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ

Wa thiyabaka fa tahhir.

And thy garments keep free from stain! (Surat al-Muddaththir, 74:4)

When Allah (swt) becomes everything in your heart then your clothes are clean. Not only your outer garments. Yes, they have to be clean but rather, the inner state, the inner garment, the heart. The purification of the heart does not happen if you do not magnify your Lord in your heart. If you still keep the dunya status in your heart, if you still keep the worldly status and luxuries, everything that relates to this world in your heart, you are not purified. You have not reached the tahaarah of the clothes. Wa Rabbaka fakkabir. Magnify your Lord. Bring takbeeraat. Remember His Greatness. Glorify His Greatness within you. Wa thiyaabaka fa tahhir. Clean up your inner garment, clean up the heart.

Purification of the heart is only through Dhikrullah, not through the `ilm. Yes, you have to take `ilm but unfortunately so many people take the `ilm to make their egos higher. That is not purification, rather they are putting water on the weed. What happens when you water weeds? They become bigger. `Ilm is something different. People nowadays take `ilm not to benefit from it, not to cleanse their heart, rather to make their hearts more impure.

On Arafat you have to be continuously in Dhikrullah, in prayers, in du`a, in reciting Qur’an the whole day and tafakkur. What happens when you do that? Ma`rifah, you know your Lord. Ma`rifatullah. What happens when you know more about your Lord? You start cleaning your heart from everything that is impure. May Allah (swt) forgive us. May Allah (swt) allow us to be from those who spend not only Arafah but all their days in purification of the heart. How do you do that? Wa Rabbaka fakkabir. Magnify your Lord in your heart. Magnify His Greatness in your heart. Exalt Him higher and higher. Glorify Him higher and higher. Make tasbeeh and tahlil. Mention Him more and more until it takes over all your heart. What happens when your heart is pure? What is in the following verse.

وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ

Wa ‘l-rujza fahjur

And all abomination shun! (Surat al-Muddaththir, 74:5)

Shun any kind of uncleanliness. Shun any kind of evil. When your heart is pure, automatically it shuns Shaytan. Anyone who has Shaytan in their heart, know that they have not purified their heart yet because they have not glorified their Lord yet.

What is after Arafat? Muzdalifah. That is the heart. That is al-mahsharu ‘l-haraam. Mahshar means the place you feel, where you are inspired. Yes, Muzdalifah is physically present but Awliyaullah have explained that mahsharu ‘l-haraam is your heart. When you have magnified your Lord and exalted Him as He is worthy, your heart becomes purified. You start receiving from Allah (swt)’s Mercy. What do you do after Muzdalifah? You shun Shaytan. Three verses.

Wa Rabbaka fakkabir. Magnify your Lord, exalt Him, praise Him. Bring tasbeeh and tahlil to Him. Take everything out of your heart except Him. When that happens, your heart will be purified, mahsharu ‘l-haraam. Allah (swt) will send inspirations. He will send from His Mercy and His Knowledge to your heart. That is a heart that is full of knowledge and love. That is the heart that has polished itself with Dhikrullah and has become full of knowledge and love. After Muzdalifah, wa ‘l-rujza fahjur. You go to Jamarat and you throw the rocks. I am done with you. There you go. I have shunned you. Do that.

They ask, “How do we get a purified heart?” Dhikr, du`a. May Allah (swt) make us from the Dhaakireen. Yaumu ‘l-`Arafah is a reminder that every day of yours has to be Yaumu ‘l-`Arafah. Every day of yours has to be full of adhkaar. My uncle, Shaykh Adnan (r), put these adhkaar and I remember them from when I was small. A thousand times, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah, a thousand times, astaghfirullah, two thousand times salawat shareef, a hundred times Laa ilaaha illa-Llah wahdahu la shareeka lahu to the end, a hundred times Laa ilaaha illa-Llah al-Maliku ‘l-Haqqu ‘l-Mubeen to the end. These are all adhkaar. You have to do them every day. Why don’t you do them everyday? Why do you wait from year to year to do a certain adkhaar? We are lazy. We have no appetite to be with Allah (swt).

The one who has gone to Arafat and completed his Hajj has three qualities. The first is love for Allah (swt). That love is not in our hearts anymore. We have love for something else. TikTok, bank accounts, corvettes, beaches, whatever. They had love for Allah (swt), intimacy with the remembrance of Allah (swt). They spend all their days over there remembering Allah (swt).

Lastly, a pure heart that Allah (swt) is asking you for. The one who has gone for Hajj is coming back with that inner state of a pure heart. The intimacy with his Lord has increased, love to his Lord has increased. That’s how you should be everyday.

What is the sign of iman or the banner of faith? Dhikrullah. If you make Dhikrullah, that is testimony that you have erected the banner of iman in your heart. That is proof that you’re not a hypocrite. That is also a fortress against Shaytan. The last one, Ḥirzun mina an-Naar. That will be protection from Hellfire. Spend all your days in Dhikrullah, not only Yaumu ‘l-`Arafah. “We have certain awraad today, let’s do them.” How about yesterday? Did you do anything? “Shaykh, I was busy.” How about tomorrow? “Tomorrow we have breakfast then we have Fun Fest.”

O insaan, Dhikrullah. Love your Lord, be intimate with His Remembrance and purify your heart by magnifying Him. Wa Rabbaka fakkabir. May Allah (swt) allow us to reach that purity. When you reach purity, you’re accepted. You’re not accepted if you don’t have qalbun saleem. Nobody can come here with his children, his wealth, his status, or his social rank. You can only come here with a pure heart. “Purify your heart and come to Me.” That is one of the meanings of Hajj and Umrah as well.

These are the manaasik that Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) has done and he has shown the way to reach that qalbun saleem. It is in his story that Allah (swt) says:

يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ

Yauma la yanf’u maalu wa la banoon.

"The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail. (Surah ash-Shu`arah, 26:88)

On that day when you come to Me your children are of no benefit to you, your wealth is of no benefit to you except if you come to Me with a pure heart. That was in the story of Ibrahim (a). Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) showed you purification of the heart. What happens after Arafat and Muzdalifah? You go down the next morning to Mina and slaughter your ego. Once you slaughter your ego, you also kill its partner, Shaytan at the Jamarat. Understand the spiritual meanings of these manaasik. It is not only physical. Yes, the good deeds are there. Allah (swt) will reward you but there are inner states that you have to achieve. It all starts with: wa Rabbaka fakkabir. That’s why Rasoolullah (s) taught us to bring takbeerat. Sahaabah kiraam taught us how to bring takbeeraat. Your way starts when Allah (swt) becomes bigger in your heart, when Allah (swt) becomes bigger than anything else in your eyes and in your mind.

That is the beginning of reaching that pure heart that is acceptable with Allah (swt), otherwise, no. If you are a big `alim but still dunya is higher and bigger in your heart and Allah (swt) has a little space in your heart, you are still not on the right path. That’s why we say, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Laa ilaaha illa-Llah. Yaa Rabbee we are coming to You with Tawheed. You are certainly the Greatest in our minds, in our eyes, ears, hearts. You are the Greatest for us. Yaa Rabbee, we are coming with, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa lillahi ‘l-hamd. Thank you, yaa Rabbee, that You have shown us the way.

Don’t be fooled by this world. Don’t have desires and greed for this world. Be like the Hajji. He took his crown off, he took his medals off, he took his bank accounts off. Still they take the credit cards and everything but you have to have nothing on you except that simple, humble cloth. No status. You want to come to Me, shun dunya. Don’t go after dunya. If you are still after dunya, you are not in spiritual ihraam. That’s why Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, I will show you Rabbu l-Ka`bah. Not “show you,” it means, “I will take you to Rabbu ‘l-Ka`bah. I will take you to the Lord of Ka`bah, spiritually.” May Allah (swt) forgive us.

We have missed the road. We have missed our opportunity. All we do is run into each other. Nobody is running to Allah (swt). Maybe a few are but most of us have lost the way. May Allah (swt) forgive us. He is Forgiving. He is Ghafooru ‘r-Raheem. He is Shakoor. It means He gives you so much for little. That’s why it came to my heart to say, yaa Shakoor, yaa Shakoor. Yaa Rabbee, we have only worshiped You this much out of our lives but You are Shakoor, You give so much for the little. You appreciate what was given from `ibaadah. That’s where we run to, to that Holy Name. Yaa Rabbee, we have done little. You reward us according to what befits You. You are Kareem. Treat us befitting that karam not befitting our `ibaadah. That is one hour out of 24 hours if you add them all together.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. My message is, wa Rabbaka fakkabir. Glorify you Lord. Magnify your Lord to such an extent that nothing in your heart remains except Him. Everything else becomes secondary or not even there. Allah (swt) is enough for you. May Allah (swt) allow us to be with the good ones, the pure ones, al-kumman. Ask to be with the perfect ones. Ask not to be with the imperfect ones. If you are with the imperfect ones, you are still not on the right road. Find the perfect ones and stick to them. They are our mashaayikh, our grandshaykhs. May Allah (swt) allow us to be with them, with that Holy Silsila of grandshaykhs.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
