They don’t know that the minute you enter into Islam, you will find thousands of friends instantly. Where? In the House of God, in the association of Dhikrullah. We went to DC. There were so many new people who we never saw before. How many firstcomers were there? Many? Were they old? They were young first comers, never been there before. The minute you said “salam” to them and they said, “Wa `alaykum as-salam,” you felt that bond. They are smiling, you are smiling. They are hugging you, you are hugging them. Did they pay you to do that? Did they arrange for that? Who arranged that? Al-Jami`, The Gatherer. One of the Holy Name of Allah (swt) is The Gatherer, The One Who brings people together.
Alhamdulillah. We are blessed to be part of the association of Awliyaullah, to be part of the Ummah of Rasoolullah (s). We are blessed to be part of the good servants. May Allah (swt) guide the bad servants to goodness. We are trying to be among the good servants of Allah (swt). Therefore, we say, a`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
Laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billahi 'l-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem.
Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, Qutbu ‘l-Mutassarif. Madad, yaa Sultan al-Awliya. Shay`anillah, yaa RijaalAllah.
We traveled. Why do you travel? Da`wa. I’m making da`wa. What did Allah (swt) say? They make da`wa and they travel around and you never know their intentions. Is it truly for Allah (swt) or is there something in there that is other than Allah (swt)? Allah (swt) knows the hearts. We cannot judge. We cannot say who is doing what. Why did I travel? Why did we make these events? Da`wa to Allah (swt), inviting people to Allah (swt). Why do you get upset if people don’t accept your invitation? Why don’t you say, “This is from Allah (swt). Whoever comes is destined to come. Whoever doesn’t come is not destined to come.”
What did Allah (swt) say in the Holy Qur'an? Today I was reading Surah Hud. Asta`eedhubillah.
Innama yastajeebu ‘l-ladhina yasma`oon wa ‘l-mawta yab`athuhumAllahu.
Those who listen (in truth), be sure, will accept: as to the dead, Allah will raise them up; then will they be turned unto Him. (Surat al-An’am, 6:36)
The one who will accept your invitation to iman. “O Shaykh. You’re going around doing what?” I’m doing da`wa. Why are you fighting with people when they don’t accept what you are telling them? Why are you debating with them? You invite them. To what? To iman. Who accepts the invitation, who responds to the invitation? Allah (swt) tells you. Innama yastajeeb. The one who makes ijaaba. Ijaaba means they respond to what you’re calling them for or to. You are calling them to something. Those who respond are those who are hearing. Hearing what? Awliyaullah have said, sama’u faham wa taddabur, the hearing of understanding, the hearing of remembering, the hearing of analyzing, the hearing of contemplating. Those who lend the ear to understand, the people who lend the ear to hear and analyze what they are hearing are the ones who will respond to what you’re calling them to. That is sama`u faham. Faham means “understanding.”
The ayah continues, wa ‘l-mawta, and the dead. Allah (swt) says the dead ones who have no hearing. The dead don’t see or hear. That’s what we see in front of us. The physical senses are out. They hear people visiting the cemetery but that’s something different. We are talking about the body. When the body is dead, there is no hearing anymore, no seeing anymore, no tasting anymore, no senses anymore.
Allah (swt) is saying there are two groups of people. When you invite people to iman, when you’re making da`wa, Allah (swt) tells you the ones who will respond to you are those who are lending you an ear to understand what you’re saying. Everybody who lends an ear to understand the Heavenly Message, will believe in the Heavenly Message because it’s the truth. There is no way around it. It calls for the Creator to be recognized. They say, “Yes, there should be a Creator.” It calls for the Messenger, the Holy One who came with the rewards that God is promising. We say, “Yes, God is able to reward the good work and God is able to punish the bad work.” It’s common sense.
People who will accept, who will respond to the da`wa that you’re making, to the invitation that you’re making are the ones who lend an ear of understanding. The dead means they have no hearing. They do not lend the ear to understand. Allah (swt) will take care of them. He will give them back life and bring them in front of Him later on.
You pay attention to the ones who respond because they understand what you are saying. Those who don’t come or don’t care, leave them. Don’t fight with them. Don’t debate with them. They set up debate shops. Why are you debating with them?
Wa aṭīʿū ’Llāha wa aṭīʿū ’r-Rasūla wa ’ḥdharū, fa-in tawallaytum faʿlamū annamā ʿalā Rasūlinā ’l-balāghu ’l-mubīn.
Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and beware (of evil): if ye do turn back, know ye that it is Our Messenger's duty to proclaim (the message) in the clearest manner. (Surat al-Ma’idah, 5:92)
If they say “no,” if they reject the message, Our Messenger is only supposed to deliver the message. That’s about it. They set up debate shops. I didn’t watch them but I can see that they are ready to eat each other, quarreling. Do they call it the Speaker’s Corner? Somebody has a Bible, another one has a Qur’an, another one has whatever it is and they are calling people to God with anger. How are they going to come? Give them the message of kindness and love. If you accept the message, you will find one thousand friends instantly. Is that possible? Yeah, it’s possible. We went to DC and all these newcomers became our friends. We ate together, we prayed together, we laughed together, we exchanged phone numbers. Networking. Linked in. We said we would see each other again. Instantly friends came in. You made friends.
Give that invitation to have instant friends and family. Do you want friends to help you? Come to our association. Do you want families to love you? Come to our association. Do you want to be part of a big family? Come to our association. If you want to be part of a community, come to our association of dhikr--any association, not only Naqshbandis, any association of turuq and outside of turuq, just regular masajid. You will find instant friends and families ready to help you, ready to take you in with a good heart.
Don’t take advantage of these good hearts. That’s your problem. Some of them come in to take advantage of others. You don’t need them. But you stay quiet because Allah (swt) is seeing the intentions. If the intentions are good, Allah (swt) will reward. If the intentions are bad, Allah (swt) will never allow that one to succeed.
Falammā alqaw qāla Mūsā mā ji'tum bihi ’s-siḥru, inna ’Llāha sayubṭiluh; inna ’Llāha lā yuṣliḥu ʿamala ’l-mufsidīn.
When they had had their throw, Moses said: "What ye have brought is sorcery: Allah will surely make it of no effect: for Allah prospereth not the work of those who make mischief. (Surah Yunus, 10:81)
Allah (swt) will never allow the work of the corrupt to be completed. They come with bad intentions. They say, “Let me enter into this association and network and see what I can do around.” They have come with an intention other than Allah (swt). They have come with the intention of dunya. They continue but Allah (swt) will never make their intention or their `amal complete. Somewhere, some place it will stop. May Allah (swt) make us from the true ones.
We have come together for the love of Allah (swt). We want to be here for the love of Allah (swt). We want to be over there for the love of Allah (swt), nothing else. May Allah (swt) make us from them.
I thank the DC crowd that opened spaces for people to come in and be friends and family. I also thank the Dallas crowd, the New York crowd is coming next, the UK and Scotland crowd in the summer. Everybody opened venues for what? For people to come in and find families and friends, to get out of their depression, to get out of their loneliness, to get into good ways and out of bad ways. That’s what Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (q) used to do. All of these gangsters in England at the street corners, he brought all of them in! Who brought them in? The people of the north, who brought you into tariqah? But you are ungrateful! They call them nankhar, the one who is ungrateful for the goodness that was done to them. He collected you off the street corners and made you something. He made you have hope.
That’s the role of Awliyaullah. They go to the street corners to those who want to kill themselves with drugs and anything else. They collect them and bring them where? To the masajid. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) did the same thing. Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (q) did the same thing. He collected these souls that were about to perish physically and spiritually and brought them into the houses of worship, the houses of God. Both of them opened houses of God, houses of Allah (swt), masajid. For what? To collect these hopeless beings who have no families and no friends. Why is there a homeless epidemic everywhere? Because they have no friends or families. They are cut off. Nobody wants to take care of them except Awliyaullah. They find them and they make an instant family for them. They take them in.
Why don’t you do that? Instead of going over people, why don’t you find the people who need help and truly help them? Invite them to your home. Invite them to the masjid. Take care of their needs. That is true Awliyaullah. The Awliyaullah is not the one who goes on the top and rules over others. The true Awliyaullah is the one who finds lost souls and lost beings under bridges and street corners ready to kill themselves. He offers them instant family and instant friends and they find hope and they continue. I can count some people that went through the same ordeal. I was one of them but I wasn’t under a bridge, alhamdulillah. You were under a bridge. [“I was living in a cave.] He was living in a cave. He’s Ashabu ‘l-Kahf, even better.
Mawlana (q) collected the lost ones, the ones that society dropped, governments dropped, systems dropped. They are all in Philadelphia. Go under the bridges and see, in LA and San Francisco. That’s what Awliyaullah have done. Mawlana (q) has done such things here. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) has done such things in Europe. Others have done such things in Asia and Africa. That’s the true work of Awliyaullah.
Come to the association of dhikr, O hopeless one. You will find instant hope and instant love and mercy. May Allah (swt) allow us to always be in the presence of Awliyaullah, always to feed off that Ocean of Love, to drink from that Fountain of Mercy that they offer that is coming straight from Rasoolullah (s) and he is receiving it from Min ladun Hakeemin `Aleem, the Divine Presence. May Allah (swt) allow us to always be at their service. Ameen.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
