a'udhu billahi min 'ash-shaytaani 'r-rajeem
bismillahi 'r-rahmani 'r-raheem
Nawaytu'l-arba`een, nawaytu'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu'l-khalwah, nawaytu'l-riyaadah, nawaytu's-salook, nawaytu'l-`uzlah lillahi ta`ala fee hadha'l-masjid
Ati` Allah wa ati` ar-rasula wa uli 'l-amri minkum
We mentioned the visitor that came to visit Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه, Ubaydullah al-Amawi, he was very important scholar. And in this scholar we look at nadhar al-murshid, the importance of the sight of the master, the teacher in this story. And how much shaykh will pour into your heart when you are submitting. When you are not submitting you are still like children like kindergarten. The more you shout at them the more they rebel. And these children characteristics are in all of us is, in as you all are raised children. That rebellious nature in us to rebel against anything you see: you cannot accept any order that comes to you, you want to do what you want to do. That is why in the army they teach you discipline. You don’t like the order given to you by the commander you can, but you have to execute the order. Then you can go to your room and shout, and shout and until you explode; who cares?
But without submission, you must listen and obey, sami`na wa ata`na ghufranak rabbana wa ilaykal-maseer - we hear and we obey, your forgiveness we seek O our Lord and to you is the journeying.
What comes after obedience, then forgiveness comes. When you listen and obey Allah, then forgiveness comes. When you listen and obey the Prophet (s) then forgiveness comes, as Allah said, man `ata ar-rasul faqad ata`Allah - Who obeys the Prophet in fact obeys Allah. When you obey your teacher, then ma`rifat will come and heavenly knowledge will be poured in your heart. So importance is to come with submission, not with questions; don’t come with questions, like Abdur Raheem al-Maghribi did. He came as if to tell Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه, "I know about this level of wali and this level and this level and this level: four levels of knowledge." And Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه said "no" for each one. (It means:) "Don’t come to me and teach me with your knowledge. Submit."
So this one, Ubaydullah al-Amawi, was coming with submission. When Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّهwas sitting with his students, all of them were giving their heart to the shaykh, all sitting with discipline. Each one sits in his assigned place; you cannot sit in the place of someone else; they know where to sit, without it being written. Might be you sit 20, 30 years and someone comes in one day and he gets what the one who came for 30 years did not yet receive. Now this one never came to Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه and now on the date 21 Muharram 510 AH he came. As soon as he entered, usually they go to their place and sit, they don’t talk. This one foreigner entered and sat at the end, and Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه said, "Come sit in the middle," because he came believing he is weak and helpless. Don’t object and say in your heart, because our heart is always criticizing. (Mawlana teases one murid.) You are sleepy a little bit. So now your heart is saying to you, "Sleep, sleep, sleep!" It is better, nawm adh-dhalim `ibadah,"Sleeping of an oppressor is worship."
So don’t criticize and complain if the shaykh calls a new one, "Come sit with me." Don’t say, "O, I am with shaykh 50 years, 30 years and I can't sit near him." You don’t know the hearts. They know the hearts.
So that shaykh, Ubaydullah al-Amawi, was called to sit in the middle and Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه said, "Ya Ubaydullah! You tell me what kind of inspiration came to your heart now?" He wants to teach everyone. With one person he can teach everyone, and he wants that person to say in public, that with 25 years of sitting with awliyaullah, still he is in need of Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani's قدس سرّه vision, or sight, as we said. He said, "Ya Sayyidee, since 25 years I am struggling, trying to make all kinds of efforts that could be done from a weak, helpless servant. Trying, enabling myself to be able to reach knowledge about ma`rifatullah, to know my Lord. I am trying and struggling. My aim is to know my Lord."
Look, one time, came and asked that Sayyidina Ahmad Al-Badawi was asking he didn’t say, "O my Lord, give me ma`rifatullah!" He said, "O my Lord open for me your Divine Presence." Look ego differs from one to one. This one saying "Open to me ma`rifatullah!" but Sayyidina Ahmad Al-Badawi who was also a big `alim, he said, "O my Lord, open to me your Divine Presence."
When Allah sent to him a person, saying to him, "do you want the key, O Ahmad?" he says, "No I want the key from the Keymaker." He was asking the Divine Presence. Like those today they want to go directly. Can you go visit president directly? So he left him 6 months. No key.
This one said to Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه that "I am trying 25 years and I am struggling and I am weak servant coming to your door. I am struggling in order to reach something. I am not saying I want to reach everything. So I came to your association thinking to myself, ataffakaru `ajaaban, I was thinking with astonishment. Can I receive from Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه something that takes me to my goal that I am seeking? Ilahee anta maqsoodee wa ridaaka matloobee, O my Lord, you are my aim, when you are my aim it means I am seeking your pleasure that you are happy with me. So I was thinking Sayyidee that my aim to be fulfilled and I reach Allah's pleasure. That is why I was thinking when I was sitting in this association and you we conducting the dhikr, can I reach that?"
One wrestler came to great Grandshaykh seeking. He is a wrestler coming to the shaykh, saying “Shaykh!” Showing no respect for teacher, nor for shaykh. (It means:) "You, me. You are shaykh and I am shaykh. You are shaykh and I am wrestler."
You see these boxers? They are like ego fighters. They are like two roosters. They do this in many countries. Where? Egypt I know. They bet on the roosters. And in Mexico, South America. They put on both roosters black magic. That is why when you have black magic you have to slaughter a rooster and drop that blood on ground; then that magic will go. So with that black magic they fight. One to kill the other. So to get rid of black magic, slaughter a rooster and let that blood run and insha'Allah with that cure, Allah will cure you of black magic. He was not asking for the ego. If he was asking for ego, Allah will tell him, "I will not open the door for you."
So he said, "Can I receive in this association ma`rifatullah?" and the shaykh was looking and seeing his heart and seeing it clean, just like the wrestler coming to great Grandshaykh. And coming and saying with his hat cocked sideways, carrying a knife, a gun, a dagger. And he said, "Shaykh I want tariqah! If you don’t give tariqah..." He has a machine gun. So the shaykh looked at his heart and found it clean. And you know the story. But we summarize it quickly.
So shaykh said you want tariqah. Ok, stay here tonight, as Shaykh was in seclusion in the mountains. "And you stay here and next morning we will see." So he was happy, he slept, rest and then in morning coming, "I want tariqah, Shaykh!"
What tariqah? So all tariqah is based on one thing. Not on knowledge. You have to do obligations, prayer and fasting. But that is not the basis to receive spiritual dress by reading or through books. It is something within you that you have to clean it. It is within you; you have to throw it out of yourself. If you are angry you cannot receive tariqah. Angry on anything. You have to be calm, patient. Your wife shouts at you, open one ear, close one ear. You shout at your wife, she has to open both ear and close both ear.
Deaf (person) never fights as he never hears anything. If someone is deaf, his other side, wife or husband, doesn't hear anything. Wife or husband what to fight for, (he is) not hearing anything. If you are deaf you are not hearing dunya problems. Always you are with akhira.
You are not hearing. So why to have problem.
Now they teach (the) deaf language: finger language. They were resting before now to make them fight.
So he said, "Tomorrow go downtown and you will find someone carrying on his shoulders meat, a butcher. Go from the back and slap him on his neck. But you are a wrestler, with all your power slap him and come to me."
That wrestler was thinking, "O masha'Allah tariqah is very nice, slapping people, and beating people, I want to take from long time this tariqah." So he went, found that person and slapped that person. That person look at him angry but he continued on his way. If someone slaps you, what you do? You beat him up.
So cutting the story short, next day, he was angry. He wants to fight, but that person didn’t respond. So he came and told the Shaykh. He said, "Ok come next day and go and find someone carrying intestines and stomachs of sheep. Go and slap him." So next day he found that one and slapped him and all the intestines and sheep stomachs came on his head. He became angry because this one didn’t show anger, but was laughing.
Then 3rd day, (he told the Shaykh what had happened with the second beating) and he said, "Go and find that one who is an old man and break your stick on him." And he did that and the man came running and said, "O forgive me, don’t come against me on the Day of Judgement as I injured your hand when you beat me."
He came to the Shaykh and he said, "Ok, first one is new in tariqah and still has ego. The second one, did not show anger but laughed, which means he is saying, "I know my Shaykh you are sending him to me. But the third, no anger, he has achieved submission."
So anger is the problem. With anger you stay in your place; you never achieve anything.
Like a tornado, the eye is where it can make the worst damage. The anger of nature is in that eye of the tornado, that is what can make that damage. That is the movement of jinn. You see that on equator, these areas where jinn are moving and mostly in Malaysia and all around the globe on the equator you see most of that. These big tornadoes you see in documentaries. On the outside it is less dangerous. The eye is the most dangerous part. The anger of the first one is less dangerous than the second one. Less dangerous, but if you find someone not in tariqah and go downtown and slap him. Try it tomorrow and see what will happen. 911 will come for you immediately.
So Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani's قدس سرّه said to him,"Ya waladee. Allah sent you here to fulfill your aim. It is written in the Day of Promises that at that moment I was observing in the Preserved Tablets that you're coming at that moment and that day I was waiting for you."
He revealed it to him, Not like the first one (Abdur-Raheem al-Maghribi), he was asking questions, questions, questions. "And Ya waladee the first you need is to take anger from your heart. And you achieved that."
Aand that scholar for 25 years achieved to throw anger from himself. He followed the hadith "man `arafa nafsahu faqad `arafa rabbahu - who knows himself knows his Lord," and he was going from one teacher to another to understand about himself or herself. Today no one wants to learn about himself they want to learn about the other partner. They can't go along with the other because they say, "that one does not understand me." Do you understand yourself first? If you understand yourself you will understand the whole community.
It is difficult. It is one key. If you have code for ATM card, if you miss one digit you cannot open. So one digit, you missing not understanding you cannot open yourself. That is why he said, "man `arafa nafsahu faqad `arafa rabbah - whoe nows himself knows his Lord. The one who opened all the digits of the password. They call them hackers. What do they do? They hack the computer and pull the information. There are spiritual hackers. You have to be very professional spiritual to hack the heart to get the password. Awliya say you don’t have to go so far, we give it to you. Take anger out of heart.
You know on airplanes they give you something to put in your ears not to hear anything. Put in your ear, earplugs. You said airplugs. Sorry he said airplugs. Put in your ear, you don’t hear anything. That is why we said "Deaf people, deaf people can receive - they don’t hear anything."
Don’t listen. Don't go where there is gossiping in order to listen. One word, one word from that person and you fight.
So Sayyidina Shaykh Abdul Khaliq Ghujdawani قدس سرّه said, "Take away anger. You Ubaydullah, you took away anger. Come I can give you. I am the one who can take from you all kinds of bad characteristics. Kun `ala raha - Be relaxed. You came to the source and I am the one who will fill you with all kinds of altaaf, subtleties, and all good characteristics and all gifts and rewards that could be given to a servant of Allah and I can tell you the moment that your heart begins to receive these characteristics or behavior or subtleties or rewards the first moment your heart begin to receive it since 25 years. Because since 25 years you began to ask for it and they begin to pour in, but some digits are missing there. And I will show you how to enter into marifat'ullah - knowing about Allah SWT."
