Stay Away from Sinners to Save Yourself from Punishment!

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

23 March 2013 Burton, Michigan

Maghrib Suhbah at As-Siddiq Mosque

Allahumma salli 'alaa Sayyidina Muhammad hatta yardaa Sayyidina Muhammad (s). Inshaa-Allah, a short suhbat.

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

We have to obey, but as much as we must obey with our weaknesses, we struggle because it is not easy; we are not going to say it is easy, no. All of us fall into mistakes and we fall into sins. I will tell you even if some people sitting here--and we are sitting here--and these people are backbiting someone or spreading false information, we who are here will be affected by their negative energy and we will be under the heavy bombardment of Allah (swt) on those people because it will hit us, because when Allah (swt) sends punishment, He sends it on everyone. So whoever is there is going to get it, because when punishment comes it comes on everyone!

Hadeethu Umm Salamata (ra) qaalat: sami`tu rasoolullahi (sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam) yaqool: idhaa zhaharat al-ma`asiyy fee umattee `amahum bi-`adhabin min `indahu. fa-qulta lahum: Ya Rasoolullahi! Amaa feehim yawmaidhin unaasin saalihoon? Qaala: balaa. Qultu: kayfa yasna`oo bi-oolaa’ika? Qaala: yaseebahum maa asaab an-naas. Thummua yaseeroona ila maghfirtun min Allahi wa ridwaan.

The Mother of the Believers, Umm Salama (r) said, “I heard the Prophet (s) say: ‘If sins appeared openly in my nation, then Allah (swt) will drown them with punishment directly from Himself.’ So I said to him (s), ‘O Prophet of Allah! Will it come on the good ones?”

The Prophet (s) said, “Even though revenge comes on bad ones, the ones who are good will also be affected and then they will be taken to Paradise.”

adnoo shayaateenakum bi qawli la ilaha ill ‘Llah Muhammad rasoolullah fa inna ’sh-shayaateen yadna bihaa kamaa yadnaa ahadakum ba`eerihi bi-kathrati rakoobati wa shayla ahmaalahu `alayh.

The Prophet (s) said, “Exhaust your shaytans by saying la ilaha illa allah Muhammadu rasulullah. For verily the devils get exhausted by it just as one of your camels gets exhausted by excessive riding and putting a crippling load on it.”

The Prophet (s) said, “Exhaust your Shaytan by saying, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah,’” because Shaytan doesn't want you to say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” and whatever orders come under Laa ilaaha illa-Llah, he always wants us to be under shirk. When we attack him, we don't need guns or machine guns, but just say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah.” This is not easy, but when bombardment comes it is also not easy. When we see people sitting and backbiting, what is our duty? It is our duty to go and to say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” and, “Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” and go, because this is fire.

When you go to a blacksmith, what happens? He is hitting on burning iron and hitting to make something and some sparks will come on you and burn you, so run! Where to go? Go to the perfumery. You might get a sparkle of perfume and you might begin to smell nice, so go to Riyaad al-Jinaan or Riyaad al-Jannah.

Qaala Rasoolullah (s), idhaa marartum bi-riyaada ’l-jannatu farta`oo. Qaaloo: wa maa riyaadu ’l-jannah? Qaala: Hilaq adh-dhikr.

Anas bin Malik (r) related a hadith that the Prophet (s) said, “If you pass by the Gardens of Jannah, sit there and graze.” They asked, “What are the Gardens of Paradise?” The Prophet (s) replied, “The circles of dhikr.” (Tirmidhi)

They asked the Prophet (s), “What are Riyaad al-Jannah, the Gardens of Paradise?” and he said, “The circles of dhikr, hilaq adh-dhikr; those bring you blessings and circles of wrong-doing will bring you fire.”

Who is the one who threw away Adam and Eve from Paradise? There is someone who threw them away after they were in Riyaad al-Jannah, when they were thrown out to the World of Miseries! Don't think this is not a world of miseries; even if you have all the wealth of dunya, it is a dunya of miseries. If we were in Paradise, would it not be better? That is why it is mentioned as daar al-balaa, the world of pain and problems and afflictions, the world of wounds; it is a world that have a lot of problems. Do you have problems? Yes. Can anyone say, “I have no problems,” except those young ones have no problems. Any word you say, there is a problem in it. Even if you say to your wife, “I love you,” there is a problem as you have to give her something after it. If she says, “I love you,” there is a problem, about anything! Therefore, it is better as Sayyidina `Ali (r) said, “Zip your lips!” The one who doesn't talk, no one will ask him anything and he will be free.

Grandshaykh (q), who was given his amaanaat from his shaykh, Shaykh Sharafuddin ad-Daghestani (q), and who been given khilaafah, inheriting from the Prophet (s), tried as much as he can to cover himself in order that no one will know he is a wali. And now today, you are not a wali and you are trying by force to make yourself a wali on everyone! Why do they do that? We have to ask, we have a psychiatrist here. It is because of love of leadership, they want to hold the chair, so we fight for the chair and we don't deserve it! Grandshaykh (q) refused to get the secret of irshaad as he didn't want anyone to know about (his station). That is why in his village they don't know him except as “Hajji `AbdAllah,” and I have his cane today that they sent from his village, on which is written “Hajji `AbdAllah,” as they don't want to be involved in masaa'ib ad-dunya so they are hiding. He said, “All sins are big problems,” and ma`asiyya, big sins, such as to disobey Allah, what do big sins create for you? No one through history was saved if he does sins; he is not saved. There is not anyone through history that was safe from punishment, only those were saved due to their obedience and anyone who was not obedient was not saved.

What kind of things took Iblees out of Paradise? He was in Paradise making sajda, `uboodiyya, worshipping all the time, and one act of disobedience took him out of Paradise to dunya. He wanted a partner and he took Sayyidina Adam (a), and Sayyidina Adam (a) listened to him one time and was taken out of Paradise for one sin! How many sins we are doing every day? In every movement there is a sin! la`anahullah, Allah kicked Iblees out and made his face the worst of images, aqbah as-soor; if you look at him, Heavens and Earth are scared from his ugly face! Sometimes they put on the news people with swollen eyes and you are scared to look at their face. No one on Earth and no one in Heavens can look at his face.

The vessel of Sayyidina Nuh (a), until water reached the top of mountains, who is the one who threw on `Ad and Thamood, where previously they were the best of cities in their time? Who is the one who opened the Earth and took Qaroon inside it? He was richest man on Earth and he carried the keys of his treasures by camel loads, for just the keys of his jewel treasures!

In the hadith of Umm Salama (r) said the Prophet (s) said, “Allah’s punishment will come when sins have been exposed.” If you do a sin you hide it, but when sins appear in public they are proud of it, to show all kinds of pictures on Facebook. Anyone who opens Facebook or Twitter or Youtube to see what is there is cursed by Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s)! They say they brought social networks, but it is not; rather it is a social-disaster work, it is a social-devil work, as Iblees played with it! Today everyone has Facebook, Twitter and Google accounts. Do you think they are only watching something good or they are watching something not good?

Inna nafsa an la-ammaaratan bi ‘s-soow.

The (human) soul is certainly prone to evil. (12:53)

The self is always ordering evil, so we are bringing into our homes all kinds of badness. So the Prophet (s) said, “If sins appeared openly in my nation, then Allah (swt) will drown them with punishment directly from Himself.”

Today are we not under punishment? You work, you work, you work, but you don't cover your bills. Is this not punishment? You work day and night and at the end you are not able to pay for your home and that is a punishment. They take you home and don't give you money, and taxes, taxes.

Umm Salama (r) said to the Blessed Prophet (s), “Are there not pious people innocent among them?”

He said, “Yes, there are.” And she said, “What will Allah (swt) do with these pious people among them?” And the Prophet (s) said, “They will be under the same affliction; whatever comes on people comes on the pious people and then the others go to Hellfire, but the pious ones will go to Paradise.”

So any sitting and any meeting in which you try to discuss and try to backbite in front of shuyookh that are awliyaullah, when you tell them stories about your brothers and sisters, stories that are not correct and mocking them, the shuyookh will smile at you, but you are going to be under their punishment on Judgment Day! On the day you go to the grave, you will be asked!

O Muslims! Believers! We have to be very careful not to be in a community filled with bad people, as we will then be punished with them. If you want to be punished for something you didn't do, sit in a group of bad people, then you will be punished!

Yooshik an yaatee `alaa’n-naasi zamaan laa yabqaa min al-islaami illa ismuhu wa laa yabqaa min al-quraana illah rasmahu, masaajidahum `aamiratan wa hiya al-kharaab min al-hudaa. `ulamaa’oohum sharrun man tahta adeema as-samaa min `indahum takhruj al-fitnatu wa feehim ta`ood.

Ali (r) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s) said, “A time will come in the near future when there will be nothing left of Islam except its name and there will be nothing left of the Qur’an except its words (meaning the Qur’an would not be understood and followed). Their mosques will be full, but will be empty of guidance. Their `ulama will be the worst creatures under the Heaven. Discord will rise from them and will come right back to them.

(Ibn `Adiyy in his Kaamil, al-Bayhaqi in Shu`b al-Imaan)

“There will come upon the people a time in which there will remain nothing of Islam but its name.” (Ibn `Abi ad-Dunya) Today how many--we are not going to say there are not people who are real Muslims, but there are many who are not real Muslims--gave Islam a bad name? That is why people mention the name of Islam but they hate Islam, because of the actions of its people. And there will remain nothing from Holy Qur’an except its drawing of its letters. Their masjids in that time will be full; you go in their mosques and they are full of circles that are teaching, but they are deviated from the truth and they are like ruins in terms of guidance, so instead of guiding the people they are full of misguidance, no guidance. Their `ulama are the worst that can be under the skies or Heavens and on Earth; from their `ulama comes forth the fitna, and now all the fitna is coming from `ulama, (who are saying,) “This is haraam, shirk, bida`!” Now the scholars are fighting each other in Egypt and from them comes forth the fitna and to them it will return!

O People! Be careful as today we are in a time where either we will go to the blacksmith and get some sparks of fire or we will go to a perfumery, getting some nice smell. Choose what you want!

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
