Simply Islam
(Suhbah begins on video at 1:01:19)
As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. Yaa Sayyidee, Yaa Rasoolullah! [Mawlana weeps.] Yaa Sayyidee! Yaa Rasoolullah! Yaa Shafi`ee al-Mudhnibeen! Yaa Mutahhir quloobana!
Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah! Madad.
Our Muslim brothers and sisters! This dunya is faaniya. How ever much you run at the end, you are going to leave everything and return to the real home, not to the house that we know, not to the palace that we know, not to the apartment we know, but to the grave that we don’t know! What kind of Manifestation is going to come, is it going to be rahmah, mercy, or is it going to be `adhaab, punishment? That is what we have to be concerned about, that is what Islam is, to remember the Akhirah, not to remember the dunya.
Our Offerings to Prophet (s) Go Directly to Him and Are Immediately Rewarded
Prophet (s) said, “If you know what I know, you would have smiled or laughed in your life very little, and would have cried a lot.”
Law t`alamoona maa `alam la-dahaktum qaleelan wa la-bakaytum katheeran.
If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much. (Bukhari and Muslim)
“If you know what I know you will smile a little, but on the other hand you will cry a lot,” meaning tears will flow from your eyes. That qasaa’id that all of you are presenting here tonight goes directly to Prophet (s): there is no hijab, no veils as anything for love of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is immediately rewarded and accepted! For anything else there is a question mark.
Our Goal is to Love Prophet (s) with All Our Heart
In this life every daughter, every girl has a father and every boy has a father and every mother has a father and every father has a mother. All of us have sentiments, we feel like the Sahaabah (r) felt in the Prophet’s presence! [Mawlana weeps] and everyone must feel what the Sahaabah (r) felt in the presence of Prophet (s). For example, how Hassaan bin Thaabit (r), the great poet, showed his love to Prophet (s), and how the Bedouin came to Prophet (s) and asked him about the Last Days, and Prophet (s) said, “Yaa `Arabi! O Bedouin, what you have prepared for that long Day?”
A Bedouin came to the Prophet (s) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (s)! When will The Hour be established?" The Prophet (s) said, "Wailaka (Woe to you). What have you prepared for it?" The Bedouin said, "I have not prepared anything for it, except that I love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet (s) said, "You will be with those whom you love!" (Narrated Annas, Bukhari)
In a different narration of this hadith the Bedouin said, laa min kathrat as-salaatin wa laa min kathrat as-siyaam wa laakin hubbullahi wa hubbuka yaa Rasoolullah, “Not because I am fasting too much or praying too much, no, not because of that. I am asking because I love you, I don’t want to be separated from you. I want to be with you in dunya and in Akhirah.” This is a goal of Muslims, to be with the Prophet (s), who gave a ticket to the Bedouin and to every Muslim inshaa-Allah when he said::
يحشر المرء مع من أحب
Yuhshar al-maruw ma` man ahab.
Each person will be resurrected with the one he loves.
So the major goal is love and love of the Prophet (s) is the target. You can love whom you like, but the most important love is to the Prophet (s). You can love your parents, your children or yourself, but the real love is to Sayyidina Muhammad (s). And look at the greatest love that Prophet (s) showed that Bedouin when he said, “Don't worry! You love me so you will be with me.” So these qasaa’id show love of Prophet (s) and he accepts it, bother from those reciting and those listening. May he accept from all of us.
Examples of the Greatest, Truest Love Allah Gave to Human Beings
But to see the greatest love that Allah (swt) has put in a human being is of course in Prophet (s), but other than Prophet (s), in who else has Allah put the greatest love that no one can imagine? It is a lady whom if you give her dunya and Akhirah she will not be happy, she is only happy for love. That lady that served Prophet (s) day and night, every moment checking on him, “Is he good, is he okay? He is coming from outside fighting unbelievers in the desert, is he good? Is he alright?” She was all the time thinking of Prophet (s), she could not sleep without checking on him, she could not eat without seeing him physically when he was present, and when he was not present she saw him through her heart.
That lady was so upset when Prophet (s) was sick and she pleaded, “Yaa Rabbee! This is the Prophet, the Messenger (s), how can he be sick? Yaa Rabbee, keep him with us!” She was always thinking what to do to make Prophet (s) be refreshed, to feel good, and she didn't leave anything, she tried everything possible to make him laugh and smile in the last days of his life. One day she found him very sick and she knew that he was going to die.[Mawlana weeps.] She cried and cried, and Prophet (s) looked at her and said, “Come to me.” She came and hugged and kissed him, and he hugged and kissed her and said, “O great daughter, Fatima! Don’t cry as you are going to follow me soon.”
Sayyida `Ayesha (r) narrated that in his fatal illness the Prophet (s) called his daughter Fatima (r) and told her a secret because of which she started weeping. Then he called her and told her another secret, and she started laughing. When I asked her about that, she replied, "The Prophet (s) told me that he would die from his fatal illness and so I wept, but then he secretly told me that from among his family I would be the first to join him and so I laughed." (Bukhari)
“Don’t cry, you are going to follow me soon!” No one is happy with death, but she was happy to die when Prophet (s) said to her, “You are going to die soon and follow me.” She was smiling as if you gave her soul back, you gave her back all that she desired, you gave her that she would be with Prophet (s) as soon as possible! She was so happy, and Sayyida A`yesha (r) was looking and didn’t know what Prophet (s) whispered in the ear of Fatima (r), which she kept to herself and after six months she passed away, but before that she told Sayyida A`yesha (r) the story.
That love is a real love and Awliyaullah, with all their greatness and their love and sincerity to Prophet (s) still cannot reach the love of Fatima (r) to her father. Great Awliya, the Salaateen al-Awliya, the Sultans of Awliya, the Masters of Awliya, and even the Sahaabah (r), no one can reach the love of Fatima (r) for her father and the love of Prophet (s) for his daugher! She is the mother of two Masters of Paradise, Hasan (r) and Husayn (r), these two grandchildren of Prophet (s)!
The Reality of Why We are in Dunya
We are forgetting the main reason we are in dunya: to see Allah’s Greatness through His Creation, as that is why He created Creation or else why create it? He is the Creator, He is Allah (swt) and we are His servants. He created us because He wants to show us the greatness of love, but instead we are loving ourselves, we are loving our dunya, we are hating each other, speaking about each other, saying all things that shouold never be said, and for what? Backbiting each other for what? For what? What is the benefit? There is no benefit! Benefit is when Prophet (s) mentioned, at-taqwaa hahuna, “Taqwa, which means True Faith, is here, it is in the heart..
The piety is here, the piety is here (pointing towards his chest). (Narrated Abu Hurayrah, Muslim)
This is what Prophet (s) wants from us, that’s why Allah sent him (s) as His Messenger, to perfect our behavior! All this Message is to behave well, to be loved by Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s). Look, everything in this dunya works, everything is in movement: your body moves, your whole system is moving, and on what? On some orders that come from the brain through vibrations. These vibrations make you move and think and make the heart work, and make your personality. If you fix these to be strong and commanding for dunya you are losing, but if you use these strong vibrations for Akhirah you are winning! These qasaa’id move the people, who are full of vibrations of the people who wrote them and also vibrations of the reciters, the singers who sing them in a very nice melody.
Respecting Holy Qur’an, Reciting it Melodiously and the Power We Take from Reading It
Abu Musa al-Ash`ari (r) was reciting Qur’an in a very melodious voice and he didn’t know that Prophet (s) was behind him. Like today we say `Abdul Basit (of Egypt) is one of the best reciters of Qur’an, but there is no comparison of Sayyidina Abu Musa al-Ash`ari (r) with any reciter in dunya! He is from As-haab an-Nabi (s), he recited in a way that we did not hear. The Sahaabah (r) did not hear the Qur’an recited except from Prophet (s), who heard the Qur’an from the Divine Presence and from Jibreel (a). The Sahaabah (r) did not know what Prophet (s) heard, how he received the Revelation, with what sound. We are hearing today, but we did not hear the Sahaabah (r), the Sahaabah heard themselves, a`imma were hearing the imams now today, the muqri. The reality of the melody was presented by Abu Musa al-Ash`ari (r) and when he was reciting in a very nice way and Prophet (s) was listening, when he saw Prophet (s) he said, “Yaa Rasoolullah! If I had known you were there, I would have put all my effort to make it more melodious!” That is respect and love to Holy Qur’an, to read it with a sweet voice with more melody.
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (r) narrated that Abu Musa (r) said that the Prophet (s) was once walking along with the Mother of the Believers, `Ayesha (r), and as they passed by his house, they heard him reciting the Qur’an. The Prophet (s) and Sayyida `Ayesha (r) stopped by the wall of his house and they listened for a while before they continued on their way home. The next morning, Abu Musa (r) came to see the Prophet (s), who said to him, “O Abu Musa! I was walking last night with `Ayesha (r) and when we reached your house we heard you reciting the Qur’an, so we stopped and listened for a while to your recital.” Abu Musa (r) replied, “O blessed Prophet of Allah (s)! I wish I had known you were there, for I would have enriched my voice and improved my recital.” (Ahmad)
I see some people put the Holy Qur’an on the floor when they are sitting, waiting to pray; in Madinat al-Munawarra or in Mecca or in the masjid they put the Qur’an on the floor when it is Allah’s Words, it is not human beings words! Everything shows our level of love for it. In poetry or verses, or reading Qur’an or Hadith, the vibrations have a tone of that love so the mind and the heart can understand it [and respond]. As much as you force your mind to drop dunya and look for Akhirah, these vibrations become like angelic movements which are accepted and loved by Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s).
O Muslims! This event tonight has touched all of our hearts and I felt the presence of Awliya and the presence of Prophet (s)! It is really a rare event, not regarding the number of people, but I am referring to the Tajalliyaat, the Divine Manifestation of Allah (swt) on this association! This is a Garden of Paradise, everyone is now sitting in a Garden of Paradise, every one of us is not sitting on this small square cross-legged or on your knees, no! You are sitting in a Garden of Paradise that is written for all of you from East to West! You cannot limit it, it is not limited by distance as Heavenly distances have no beginning or end! That is why we mentioned that Hadith of Prophet (s) when we started:
"إِذَا مَرَرْتُمْ بِرِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ فَارْتَعُوا "قَالَ وَمَا رِيَاضُ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ " حِلَقُ الذِّكْرِ
Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet (s) said: "When you pass by the Gardens of Paradise, avail yourselves of them." The Companions asked: "What are the Gardens of Paradise, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "The circles of dhikr." (Tirmidhi)
“If you pass by the Gardens of Paradise, sit in them.” ‘Gardens’ he said in plural (not ‘garden’), and that means so many, not just one. They asked, “Yaa Rasoolullah, wa maa Riyaadh al-Jannah? What are these Gardens of Heaven on Earth?” Prophet (s) said, “Hilaq adh-Dhikr, the Circles of Dhikrullah.”
This is a rawdah now, not like Prophet’s Rawdah in Madinah, but it is an imitation of the Rawdah and Allah blesses those sitting in it, anywhere, in a home, a masjid, a hall; wherever people are sitting and remembering Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s) becomes a circle of dhikr, of the Gardens of Heavens!
The Unlimited Power of Sacred Readings and Recitations
So make all your days Gardens of Heavens by sitting and remembering Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s), sit and read the awraad that the shuyukh given you of recitations. If you miss them try to do them the next day, if you cannot do them try to do at least the minimum daily and Allah (swt) will be happy with you. Don’t leave reading Qur’an or it will come against you on the Day of Judgement as is the Ancient Words of Allah and every letter has a meaning and a light that can enlighten you when you are looking at the words in Holy Qur’an; these words can speak to you and tell you secrets of their meanings!
Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, said that each letter has at least 24,000 oceans of knowledge that never end, so when you read every letter, when you look at them, for example, if you look and at the same time I look at ‘Alif’, you will get 24,000 oceans of knowledge and I will get 24,000 oceans of knowledge, and each ocean is different from another, they are not the same; what is for you is for you, what is for me is for me. Then you will look at the next letter and you will get another 24,000 oceans of knowledge written for you. If you are not a wali that can carry that Manifestation, it will be given to you in your lifetime or in the seven breaths when you are passing away, and Allah (swt) will dress you with these recitations, these meanings and oceans! If you read another time, “Alif. Laam. Meem” you will get another 24,000 oceans of knowledge that are different from the first time, and it will continue like that. Allah has the treasures and His treasures never end, just as His Beautiful Names and Attributes will never end, so take, take high! When you make du`a ask for something so high! Ask, “Yaa Rabbee! Put me with Prophet (s)!” Go very high up in your du`a: Allahumma ’ghfir lee! Allahumma arhamnee! Allahumma ’ghfir li’l-haadireen wa’l-ghaibeen wa li’l-Muslimeen wa li’l-mu’mineen wa’l-mu’minaat to everyone!” and Allah will accept! He likes people who are persistent in their du`as, not someone who makes one du`a and then says, “O! Allah didn’t accept, I’m not going to continue.” No, do more, ask more, don’t stop, do more!
May Allah give us the barakah, the blessings of this night. It is a blessed day and a blessed night, a Friday, although it’s in the evening now, but Allah Kareem to give us the Tajalli of this day. That will be enough, may Allah bless you all and inshaa-Allah we see you tomorrow.
Bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
