Mawlid and Suhbah at Simply Islam
As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,
nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta`ala al-`Azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.
Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.
Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)
Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleen Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een.
When one is left thirsty in a desert, what does he need? When you quench your thirst, what happens? You are relaxed. I observed what they were reciting; they are thirsty. [Mawlana weeps.]
Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolallah, yaa Rahmatan lil-`Aalameen, yaa Shafee`i ’l-mudhnibeen laa makhraja wa laa malja’a illa ilayka yaa Sayyidee fa laa tukhayyib rajaa’ana yaa Sayyidee yaa Rasoolallah unzhur `alayna bi nazhrat al-mahabbah, bi nazhrat al-`ishq, wa bi nazhrat al-maghfirah
The Sahaabah (r) were looking at Prophet (s), but we are lost, the Ummah is lost, everyone is standing for politics. Leave politics, it’s not our business, leave it to politicians, it’s their business! Our business is how to behave ourselves and to prepare for the Day of Judgement. `Ulama must stand up and notify the Ummah about good manners, good character, good behavior and how to live in peace. May Allah quench our thirst from the love of Prophet (s)!
The one reciting that qaseedah, Khayr al-bariyya, “uhdeeka hubbee, salaata rabbee, I give you my love as a gift,” was searching for his love to Prophet (s) and we are searching for love for our desires. No one is thinking about Akhirah. Alhamdulillah, Muslims and non-Muslims are always asking for something to quench their thirst. Non-Muslims who want to quench their thirst must have have faith in Prophet (s), that is the issue. They say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” but not “Muhammadun Rasoolullah.” They say, “There is a God,” they believe in Allah (swt), but it is not enough if they don’t want to say, “Muhammadun Rasoolullah.” Prophet (s) said:
Each person will be resurrected with the one he loves. (Tabarani)
Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah! We love you! You are the one who is saving us, you are the one to whom Allah (swt) gave Intercession. Ishfa` lana `ind al-mawla ’l-`azheem, ishfa` lana `ind Allah `azza wa Jall, yaa Rasoolallah, yaa Rahmatan lil-`Aalameen! [Mawlana weeps.]
We don’t know where to begin and where to end, but we are on the route. Like packages that are shipped via a specific route and people receive them, one day we are going to get our package. We hope our package will be Allah’s forgiveness of our sins. Everyone is carrying a package on their shoulder, on their back, and if it is a good package you will be happy, but if it is a bad package you are going to be sad. Everything is weighed, wa wada`a ‘l-mizaan, Allah has put the Scale and He is charging everyone.
He raised the sky and placed the balance. (Surat ar-Rahman, 55:7)
Whoever says ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ enters Paradise. (At-Tabarani in his Awsat and his Kabeer)
When Muslims say “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah” they enter Paradise. Yaa Rabbee, inna ‘l-jannata wa ‘l-akhirata bi rahmatika, yaa Allah! May Allah (swt) grant us Jannah, today here in dunya and in Akhirah! We are helpless, we have no power. Life is moving: one is going, one is coming, then it’s going to end. According to scientists, many planets are not there anymore. You can still see their light coming, even though they are dead, but in reality those stars don’t exist. They go forth, it is the Day of Resurrection for them as for every star there is a Day of Resurrection. We don’t know which Creation Allah is creating and putting it there, because Allah (swt) is Huwa al-Khaliq, He is the Creator. Every moment there is a Creation that comes and goes. This is our understanding; deeper than that we don’t know. Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur’an:
وَسَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا مِّنْهُ
He made subservient to you everything that is in the Heavens and everything that is in the Earth.
(Surat al-Jaathiyah, 45:13)
Allah has put under your order whatever is in Heavens and on Earth, so which Heaven? The good Heaven, inshaa-Allah the best Heaven, with Awliyaullah and Prophet (s).
Those on whom is the Grace of Allah: the Prophets, the Sincere (lovers of truth), the Witnesses (who testify), and the Righteous (who do good). Ah! What a beautiful fellowship! (Surat an-Nisa, 4:69)
Let us audit ourselves and ask, how many times have we missed our prayers? Some people who missed a lot of prayers, how can they repay them, they’re gone! How many people don’t fast and they cannot make up those missed fasting days, they’re gone! How much zakaat we didn’t pay, now it’s gone! How many times Allah (swt) asked us to make Hajj and some people never did? So the bad deeds and missed opportunities written in our books are full. We are afraid not to pay income tax, of being audited by the government, but we are not afraid of what will happen on the Day of Judgement! I wonder, what am I going to say when Allah calls me, as Prophet (s) said to Sayyida `Ayesha (r), “Yaa `Ayesha, make du`a that Allah (swt) will not judge you.”
(Yaa `Ayesha!) Who will be judged will be punished for sure. (Bukhari)
The one who is judged, for sure will be sent to punishment, because there is nothing hidden from Allah (swt). Angels are writing everything, but He said, “Repent and I will forgive you.” So we must repent every day, which is far better bthan watching videos or TV. Cry, try to make your eyes shed tears, khawfan min Allah `azza wa jall, fear Allah (swt)! It is said from the eye of a mu’min , one tear shed in love of Allah (swt) and the Prophet (s) will distinguish Hellfire by erasing his sins. Alhamdulillah, these recitations soften hearts, which is why it is recommended to praise Prophet (s) and glorify Allah (swt) as often as possible. Allah (swt) praised His Prophet (s), so what about us?
Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him with a worthy salutation. (Surat al-'Ahzaab, 33:56)
Everyone knows this ayah. Why is Allah (swt) asking us to praise Prophet (s), do we need to be asked? It means there is something behind it. Islam is based on Prophet (s): if there is no Prophet (s) there is no Islam. Allah willed Prophet (s) to bring the Message in the best way that Allah liked, because He (swt) inspired Prophet and prepared him, so to show his greatness, He (swt) raised him up to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa. What did He give him there? No one knows. Allah is The Creator, wahdahu laa shareeka lah. Prophet (s) is the Best Servant, also laa shareeka lah in his character, behavior and personality. We are followers of Prophet (s) and Allah said, “If you love My Prophet, I will love you.”
Also, Prophet (s) is sad for his Ummah. On the nights of Israa and `Arafah, he (s) raised his hands, asking Allah (swt) to forgive the Ummah, with Sayyidina Abu Bakr, Sayyidina `Umar and other Sahaabah (r) around him, and Allah immediately accepted and said, “I forgave them all, except one I will not forgive: zhaalim bi nafsihi aw ghayrihi, the one who oppressed himself or others.” Nafsihi: you oppress yourself by following Shaytan and your desires, by not following Allah’s orders and by not praising Prophet (s). Ghayrihi is to oppress others, you backbite and slander them.
O those who believe! Stay away from suspicion. Indeed some suspicion is sin. Do not spy on each other and do not backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? No, you would hate it. Fear Allah for He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:12)
“Would you like to eat the raw flesh of your living brother? You would be disgusted!” That is az-zhaalim. Allah said, “There is no way I am forgiving the zhaalim.” From of his love for his Ummah, Prophet (s) became sad as wants their benefit, zhaalim or not. We want to take revenge from the zhaalim who oppressed us and our family, but Prophet (s) was sad, he didn’t want a zhaalim in his Ummah to not be forgiven.
Allah said, “You are sad today in this world that caused so much bloodshed.”
Prophet (s) is sad, Awliyaullah are sad, scholars are sad, governments are sad: no one knows what to do. If we don’t change ourselves, who will? The government doesn’t know what is inside everyone; Allah (swt) knows, Prophet (s) knows, Awliya and scholars know. Prophet (s) said, “Yaa Rabbee, forgive them!” Allah (swt) looked at his reaction, then Prophet (s) began to smile, then laugh, showing all his teeth! Sayyidina Abu Bakr and Sayyidina `Umar (r) were stunned that one minute Prophet (s) was so sad and then laughing.
They asked, “Yaa Rasoolullah, what happened? Just now you were so sad.”
Prophet (s) said, “Allah said, ‘For your sake, I will also forgive the zhaalim.’ At that moment I laughed, because I saw Iblees running away, throwing dirt on his head, tormented that he failed to trap Ummat an-Nabi (s).”
It means this Ummah is marhoomah, forgiven. We hope we are not zhaalim as they may have a rough time, but in the end Allah will forgive them with Prophet’s intercession. We ask Allah (swt) to forgive us.
Prophet (s) showed his sadness and how much he loves his Ummah; we cannot describe how much. As you said, love makes miracles: Prophet’s love for his Ummah made the miracle that Allah (swt) forgave the zhaalim. We cannot question why, it is the Hadith of Prophet (s) and what concerns us is that it happened because of Prophet (s). So what do we have to show Prophet (s) for that favor?
Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, said, “If you make salawaat standing in the Muwaajahah Shareefah in Madinatu ‘l-Munawwara facing Prophet (s) and make salawaat from the time of Adam (a) until the Day of Judgement, still you cannot give Prophet (s) what he is due!” It means you cannot imagine it; what he gave is incomparable! Also, all your salawaat is nothing compared to the salawaat Allah (swt) sends on Prophet (s) with His angels, and all of them are ordered to make salawaat on Prophet (s). Inna-Llaaha wa malaa'ikatahu, jami`an, Allah and all His angels are making salawaat. (33:56)
When Prophet (s) showed mahabbah, love to his Ummah, Allah showed His praisings from His Prophet (s). Love makes miracles, of course! It makes us go to Paradise, that is the biggest miracle! What do you want better than that? The miracle of love in dunya is not going to work. You can love Prophet (s), yes, and Allah (swt) is forgiving the whole Ummah for a du`a from Prophet (s) asking for Intercession at `Arafah. You don’t forgive if you don’t benefit. What benefit does Allah have? He doesn’t need anything. What did Prophet (s) benefit? He doesn’t need that, but with all our sins he loves us. Out of their love, compassion and emotion, these reciters and authors of poems are praising and glorifying Allah (swt) and praising Prophet (s), because they tasted the beauty and sweetness that we are not tasting! They compose poetry from a taste within themselves, inspirations, because they are diving in the ocean of Prophet (s).
The Sahaabah (r) quenched their thirst with Prophet (s) and when he was leaving dunya, they cried. Allah (swt) said:
Surely We have given you a manifest victory so that Allah may forgive you your former and latter sins, and complete His blessing upon you, and guide you on a Straight Path, and that Allah may help you with a Mighty Help. (Surat al-Fath, 48:1-3)
By time! Indeed Man is in loss, except those who believe, do good works and enjoin each other to truth and patience. (Surat al-`Asr, 103:1-3)
Allah is giving an oath by al-`asr, which is time, a century, or a period of years, or as explained by scholars as Salat al-`Asr, the prayer between Zhuhr and Maghrib, or between `Isha and Fajr, or between Fajr and Zhuhr; all are `asr. The other scholarly interpretation is that `asr is one-hundred years. Tafseer Surat al-`Asr in Ruh al-Bayan states Allah (swt) is giving an oath on the lifespan of Prophet (s), the most valuable life. One salawaat on the Scale is heavier than all good deeds of the entire Ummah, so out of love Allah (swt) gave an oath on the life of Prophet (s) that, “O my Sahaabah (r), Allah wants you to know that. O Ummah you are also going to live in the precious time of the Prophet (s),” and the Sahaabah (r) did that. We didn’t do that, we are asking and yearning for that, even to feel the presence of the Prophet (s) for one second!
Allah is saying, Wa ‘l-`asri inna ‘l-insaana la fee khusr, “By the life of Prophet,” or, “by Salaat al-`Asr, human beings are losing except those who are Believers.” Believers in what? To say, “Laa ilaaha illallah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” that’s it, Believers in Allah and His Prophet (s), the Creator and His Servant. Illa ‘lladeena aamanoo, “Those who believe.” So when you are a Believer, you want to show your love to the one who offered you that faith in Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s). The Du`a of Intercession: illa ‘lladeena aamanoo, we are Believers according to what Allah likes, wa `amiloo ‘s-saalihaat, and they do good things. If we don’t do `amiloo ‘s-saalihaat we are losers. Wa tawaasaw bi ‘l-haqq, and between them they build their relationship on Reality, on Haqq, on Truth: not cheating, deceiving, or saying, “This one,” and then saying the opposite to others to placate them. Don’t lie and playing games. Illa ‘lladeena aamanoo wa `amiloo ‘s-saalihaati wa tawaasaw bi ‘l-haqq wa tawaasaw bi ‘s-sabr, so they have to be patient; if we are patient we can do everything Allah (swt) likes from us.
Allah is giving an oath on the life of the Prophet (s), because it is the most valuable life. That is why He said in Holy Qur’an, “You are claiming you love Allah, so follow His Beloved.”
Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat Aali-'Imraan, 3:31)
If you are really saying you love Allah, follow Prophet (s)! Allah didn’t say, “For Allah,” rather, for mahabbah. “He is My Servant and you are his servant, so follow him then I will accept all of you.” Yuhbibkumu ‘Llah, “When you follow me with your `amal, your love, it makes miracles. “You’ll be happy, yuhbibkumu ‘Llah.” When Prophet (s) has certified you are following him as Allah ordered, in kuntum tuhiboona Llah fa-’ttabi`oonee, if you follow correctly Allah loves you, Prophet (s) loves you, yuhbibkumu ‘Llah, then what happens? Kun fayakun, He will open your heart and give you what you want. He will make you a Wali.
Behold! Verily on the Friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Surah Yunus, 10:62)
My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”). (Hadith Qudsiyy, Bukhari)
One after another, all these miracles will come true, but they require real mahabbah. That is why he said, Yuhsharu ma` man ahabb, that no one is considered a Believer until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.
You are not able to perfect your faith until you want for your Muslim brother what you want for yourself. (Bukhari)
Today, who loves their brother? Today brothers fight with each other and with their sister, their wife, their mother, and everything is becoming a soup, so Allah (swt) is showing us the way: “Don’t try to come to Me directly, come to Muhammad (s), ittabi`ooh, ni`ma ‘l-ittibaa`.”
Anyone that claims he is a real `alim is responsible to show us the right way, and if he is not showing us it means there is some mistake there, some problems. `Ulama must show their love to the Ummah because we are weak servants; we try to do as much as we can, but it is`Ulama’s responsibility to teach us and Allah will ask them on the Day of Judgement.
Those on whom is the Grace of Allah: the Prophets, the Sincere (lovers of truth), the Witnesses (who testify), and the Righteous (who do good). Ah! What a beautiful fellowship! (Surat an-Nisa, 4:69)
Siddiqeen are the Awliyaullah: first it is Prophets, then Awliyaullah, then Shuhaada, then Saaliheen. The Shuhaada will be asked first, is it not? Based on Hadith, they will go to Paradise, Allah (swt) will call the shaheed...this is not fabricated, it is mentioned by Muslim and Tirmidhi:
إن أول الناس يقضى يوم القيامة عليه رجل استشهد، فأُتى به، فعرَّفه نعمه فعرفها، قال: فما عملت فيها؟ قال: قاتلت فيك حتى استشهدت، قال: كذبت، ولكنك قاتلت لأن يقال جريء، فقد قيل، ثم أمر به فسحب على وجهه حتى ألقي في النار
The first of people to be judged on the Day of Resurrection is the man who claimed to be a martyr. He will be brought forth and told the blessings [of being a martyr]. Allah (swt) will ask, “What did you do for them?” He will say, “I fought for Your sake.” Allah (swt) will say, “You lie! You fought so that you would be called a martyr and it has been said.” Then He will give His command and the man will be dragged on his face and thrown into the fire.” (Muslim, Tirmidhi)
Allah will ask the shaheed, “What did you do for Me?” Allah shows him all these favors that he wants to give to a shaheed, “What did you do to get these rewards?”
“I made jihad fee sabilillah and died for You.”
Allah will say, “You are a liar, kadhibt! You didn’t do that for Me, you did that for people to say, ‘he died a shaheed,’ for recognition. O My angels, he is a liar, take him to Hellfire!”
Today suicide bombers make videos before they die. Prophet (s), who is as-Saadiq al-Masdooq, the Trustworthy One, described it: the shaheed only wants recognition of his family, his name and associates because he was brainwashed, he didn’t do it for Allah. So what happens to the shaheed? He goes to Hellfire. The real shaheed is when there is war, and there is no real war now, it’s only for power. This is what is happening now, bloodshed for chairs, which is not shaheed.
Prophet (s) described the shaheed in that Hadith, that Allah asks, “What did you do for these rewards I give the shaheed? Go to Hellfire.” There is more explanation and an inside interpretation, but this is for shaheed. So what happened in that category of cheating and self recognition? This is riya`, arrogance, showing off, which are not accepted in Islam. Martyrdom is not for a government or yourself. You believe in a group of people comes from Heaven to Earth wearing black, killing and spreading bloodshed everywhere, so you kill innocent people for what? You will be asked to account for every person you killed! All suicide bombers will be punished and not allowed to leave this dunya except they will be killed over and over again in various ways!
The second (category) Allah will call is the `alim. We are not `alim, we are jahil, ignorant people. Our position is to make Allah and His Prophet (s) happy with us. He calls the `alim and says, “This is the reward I give to an `alim. What did you do to deserve this?”
That one will say, “O Allah! I did my best, I made Tahfeez al-Qur’an, I studied Holy Qur’an and Shari`ah, Maqaam al-Ihsaan.”
I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)
No one is touching on that subject, only on the First and Second Pillars of Imaan, half or a quarter of the Third Pillar, although they have to put more stress on the Makaarimu ‘l-Akhlaaq, because it will bring people back to the core of Islam, but they are not. They first emphasize the Five Pillars of Islam, the Six Pillars of Imaan, but they forgot about Ihsaan. May Allah bring their attention back. These Ahadeeth Prophet (s) says Ahadith are not dead, they are living and they by reciting them they clean those who fall under these categories. So now when you are reciting and explaining that Hadith it is alive and takes that heaviness from you and throws it away, Allah takes it away. One Hadith is enough for you to enter Paradise, because when you recite it you are believing in Allah (swt) and in Prophet (s), so there is tremendous rahmah in mentioning these Ahadeeth.
Allah will ask the `alim, “What did you do for Me?”
He will say, “I taught them Shari`ah and Ahadeeth.”
Allah will say, “No, kadhibt, you lied.”
Not every scholar speaks on Ahadeeth of Prophet (s). Those who fall under this category are very well-known scholars, but scholars who know nothing are helpless, like us.
Allah will ask, “What did you do for Me?”
“I taught.”
Allah will say, “No, you did it for yourself, to get money for your `amal! You were trained in My Shari`ah, My Constitution, the Sacred Law. You cannot trade with what I said.”
You studied the Qur’an and, therefore, you are responsible. If you claim to be `alim, there is no ajar in teaching; you can get wahban, a grant, a gift from someone to you, but you cannot sell or trade Islam, it is not to be sold. Some `Ulama are not selling, Allah gave them muhsineen, sponsors, and they are happy. In Tahfeez al-Qur’an, traditionally they accept anyone who comes, even if they don’t have money. I don’t know how it works today in some countries, are they also paid or not? In any case, Allah says to the angels, “Take him to Hellfire.”
Then Allah will call the muhsin, generous one, and say, “You were generous in dunya, you gave money for schools and masaajid.”
“Yes, yaa Rabbee. I did it for You.”
Allah will say, “No, you are lying, you did it for yourself. How many masaajid did you put your name on? Instead of My Name it is your name; instead of My Beloved Muhammad’s (s) name it is your name.”
In wealthy countries it is written on a plaque ‘al-Kabir so-and-so’, ‘this muhsin so-and-so built this masjid’. It is good to support a mosque, but this is the Hadith of Prophet (s) for us, `Ulama and martyrs to pay attention, this is not something that we are mentioning to humiliate them, no, astaghfirullah.
Remind, for reminding benefits the Believers. (Surat adh-Dhaariyat, 51:55)
Remind ourselves and remind them: don’t claim something, address everything to Allah (swt). For a masjid you cannot put the name of the builder, you must put the name of Allah (swt) outside and inside.
So Allah will send him to Hellfire. What will happen there? Allah knows. For sure he is from `Ummat an-Nabi (s) so Allah will forgive him. As we mentioned in the Hadith before of Laylat ‘l-Arafah, Allah will forgive the zhaalim, so if a zhaalim is forgiven, it means everyone will be forgiven. On the Day of Resurrection, when Allah calls Prophet (s) and he makes sajda and du`a for his Ummah, Allah will forgive them. Allah will give one-third at the beginning, and then the second one-third and then the last one-third, except for one, and then He will forgive him. So Ummat an-Nabi is Ummat Marhooma, the forgiven Ummah. We love our Prophet (s), salloo `alayh. Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad. [Everyone recites Salaat al-Faatih.]
Salaat al-Faatih, Salutation of the Victor
Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin ‘il-faatihi limaa ughliqa wa 'l-khaatimi limaa sabaqa wa 'n-naasiri 'l-haqqi bi 'l-haqqi wa 'l-haadi ilaa siraatika 'l-mustaqeema wa `alaa aalihi haqqa qadrihi wa miqdaarihi 'l-`azheem.
O Allah! Bless our Master Muhammad (s), who opened what was closed and who is the Seal of what went before, he who makes the Truth victorious by the Truth, the guide to Your Straight Path, and bless his Household as is due his immense position and grandeur.
This is enough for you! If you are saying it with a clean heart, it will take you to Paradise, because it is very heavy on the Scale. Any kind of salawaat is heavy on the Scale, it will make our hasanaat heavy and our sayyi`at light, as if they are not there and send us to Paradise.
As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
Thank you very much, may Allah bless you.
