Seven Witnesses Observing You

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

20 September 2024 Burton, Michigan USA

As-Siddiq Institute & Mosque (ASIM)

Jumu`ah Khutbah

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

O mu’mins, O believers! One more day we have approached the Divine Presence. May Allah (swt) make us from those for whom the doors of the Divine Presence open. May Allah (swt) allow us to be in His Presence. What’s the point of this life if it weren't for reaching that Eternal Love? Why are we here? Everyday you get up and do what? You rage on the highway, you storm your way into your office, you harass people on the phone and the same thing starts again in the afternoon. You storm out of the office, you harass people on the phone and you rage on the road and come back home and watch the news.

That is pathetic. If that is your life, is it worth living? Life is not for that. Everyday you have to say, “Yaa Rabbee! Am I closer to you or not? Yaa Rabbee! Is my iman getting better or not? Am I learning more about You or not?” That’s what you need to do in this world. Don’t think that you’re going to live for years, no. Everyday that comes through, say, “Yaa Rabbee! I am closer to You. I have lost one more day out of my life in this world, inshaa-Allah, I have done good in it and I’m closer to You.”

You have to love to be closer to Allah (swt). You have to love that you are on your way out of this lower world to the upper worlds. But the ones who feel like that are very few. “Alhamdulillah, for another day. Yaa Rabbee, thank you. You have given us the opportunity to worship You on this day.” Why do you worship? Why did Allah (swt) tell you, “Do this and do that”? Does He need your worship? Does the Lord Almighty need you to make Him bigger? Does the Lord Almighty feel deprived if nobody praises Him? “Nobody is praising Me. What should I do?” Allah (swt) is Al-Hameed, from Pre-Eternal to Post-Eternal He is the Praised One. He is always praised.

All the angels of the skies, all the people and creatures on earth, are not worth anything in front of the Grandeur of Allah (swt). If you think that they can add something to Him, you are mistaken. Why is Allah (swt) asking you, “Pray for Me”? So you can get closer to Him. The only way that you can communicate with Him, the only way that you can establish--what do they say about these aliens? “Let’s establish contact.” The only way you can establish contact with Allah (swt) is through what He has shown you what to do. He told you, “Come in front of Me. Read Fatiha. Read a surah or Ikhlas or whatever you read. Say, ‘Subhaana Rabbee ‘l-Azheem. Subhaana Rabbee ‘l-`Alaa.’ Do these little things here and there and that’s how you get in contact with Me. That’s how you get in My Presence.”

“You are giving yourself up from the world outside. You are giving yourself up from the worries of the office and the worries of the dunya and the worries of the news and the worries of anything that’s happening around you and coming to Me to make contact.” That’s why you worship. All of the worship that you do is to make you closer to Allah (swt), nothing else. If you think that Allah (swt) needs your prayers and fasting, you’re wrong. It’s for you. It is the way to get closer to Him.

The more you do, the more love you have in your heart. If you are not receiving love in your heart, you are not on the right way. You are not doing salah. You are not do siyam. You are not doing the fasting and the praying and the charity that Allah (swt) has ordered correctly. All of that has to build up love in your heart towards Him. If it’s not then you have to work on it.

Understand why you are here. “Yaa Rabbee, thank you. One more day closer to You. One more day closer to Your Presence. One more day closer to me being in Your Divine Presence, receiving my scroll, receiving my deeds.” May Allah (swt) forgive us on that day, conceal our faults and multiply our good deeds, whatever it is. Because on that day, Allah (swt) is going to make you surprised.

“The news. The news.” Everybody spins their stories and spins their news and their opinions any way they want. Both are lying and nobody can say which one is lying. Who is lying? Nobody knows. Facts, actions, deeds, whatever it is, nobody knows. Your Lord, Allah (swt), is going to make something tell its news that you can never refute. You will be shocked. Allah (swt) said, asta`eedhu billah:

يَوْمَئِذٍ تُحَدِّثُ أَخْبَارَهَا

Yawma’idhin tuhaddithu akhbaaraha.

On that Day will she declare her tidings. (Surat az-Zalzalah, 99:4)

On that Day, she will tell her news. Who is “she”? Who will tell your news? O Ali! O Hasan! O Omar! O John! O Bill! O Jack! Who’s going to tell you the news? Who’s going to say what you have done on its back and what you have done when you were stepping on it? The earth! Allah (swt) says:

Idhaa zulzalti ‘l-ardu zilzaalahaa.

When the earth is shaken to her (utmost) convulsion. (Surat az-Zalzalah, 99:1)

The earth. There will come a day when it will have a final shake. It wants to shake you off its back. As I heard from my master, the earth is waiting for permission from Allah (swt): “Yaa Rabbee! Give me permission so that I can shake them off my back. All of those coming against You, all those coming against the truth or the ones coming against prophets and messengers, just give me one chance. I want to dust them off my back.”

It’s going to happen. That is the zalzala. That is one big earthquake. Who told us that? CNN, Fox News? Nabi is the one who tells you about the future. Everybody else just assumes or predicts. The ones who have said the truth about the future are the messengers and prophets. That is why they are called “nabi.” He tells you the naba’, the news you don’t know. There will come a day when the earth itself, this earth that you are walking upon, on the Day of Judgement the earth will testify. It will be brought as a witness. For what? Yawma’idhin tuhaddithu akhbaarahaa.

On that day it will tell the news of what was done on its back, good or bad. A person can argue with another person but how can you argue with the earth? Insaan will say:

Wa qaala ‘l-insaanu maa lahaa.

And man cries (distressed): 'What is the matter with her?' (Surat az-Zalzalah, 99:3)

The human being will say, “What happened to this earth? What happened to it that it’s testifying everything that was done on its back?” On that Day, there is no lying, there is no spinning, there are no assumptions or predictions. Everything that you have done is wide open, O human!

The ones who come to the masjid, the mu’mins--leave the others. May Allah (swt) guide them. If they are not guided, what can you do? You cannot guide them. Allah (swt) guides whomever He likes and whomever He wants. If the guidance was in our hands, Rasoolullah (s) would have guided his uncle, Abu Talib. If the guidance was in the hand of any human being, it would have been in the hand of Rasoolullah (s) to guide the ones he liked, the ones he loved. He couldn’t. Allah (swt) told him, “I guide people.”

Alhamdulillah, we are guided. Understand that you are guided. Don’t fall into the idiotic current. I don’t want to say bad words. Don’t fall for what they are telling you. Don’t fall for their lies. Leave them. That’s like a rip current, it takes you inside. It will drown you in dunya. They are people of dunya. You are not people of dunya. You are people of Akhirah. You have believed in Allah (swt), your Creator. You have believed in the Messenger who has come.

He is telling you, the earth will testify against you, whether good or evil. That place, “maqan” as they say, the area, will testify. Places will testify, “Yaa Rabbee. This one was obedient to You here. Yaa Rabbee. This one did a good thing here. This one said a good thing here.” In other places they will say, “Yaa Rabbee. This one made zina here. I was present.” They hide in rooms. What rooms do you hide in? The earth that you are on, the bed that you are on, the desk you are on is on earth. That place will say, “Yaa Rabbee. This man/woman has done zina here. This man drank here. This man disobeyed you here. This man has done this here.” The earth will testify against you. O Muslim, understand! Leave the others but you are the ones who have accepted Islam. You have accepted iman.

Read the Qur’an. Yawma’idhin tuhaddithu. It will tell, akhbar. Mashaa-Allah, everybody is into akhbar. Akhbaru ‘l-`Arabiyya. Akhbaru ‘l-Jazeera. I don’t know what. The news by Jazeera. The news by `Arabiyya. The news by CNN. The news by Pakistan, India or whatever. The earth will have its time to say its news and on that Day the ones who have done bad will say, “Yaa Rabbee. Send me to the fire so I don’t see this happening to me,” the exposure of the ugly things they have done in front of everybody. You cannot lie at that time, it’s finished. At that time they will close up your mouth.

Yawma nakhtimu `alaa afwaahihim wa tukallimoona aydihim wa tashhadu arjuluhum bimaa kaanoo yaksiboon.

That Day shall We set a seal on their mouths. But their hands will speak to us, and their feet bear witness, to all that they did. (Surah Ya-Sin, 36:65)

We will seal their mouths. They cannot say anything. O Muslim! Understand. May Allah (swt) allow us to understand. That Day is coming. What do you do? Rasoolullah (s) came to tell you what to do. He told his Sahaabah (r), wherever you go, even if you are out in the wilderness, the mountains, the desert or wherever you are, and it’s time for prayer, call the adhan. “Why? Nobody’s here. Who’s going to come to pray with me?” Call the adhan because any jinn that hears it, any human that hears it, any tree that hears it, any rock that hears it, will testify for you on the Day of Judgement.

If you are by yourself, call the adhan. If you are by yourself, do Dhikr. If you are by yourself, do tilaawah. The walls of this masjid will testify, “Yaa Rabbee. I testify that this man made Dhikr for You here.” The trees will say, “Yaa Rabbee. I heard this man calling Your Name here.” Increase your good witnesses. Be in Dhikrullah, be in tilaawatu ‘l-Qur’an, be in salah as much as you can because Rasoolullah (s) is telling you that these things will testify for you.

As they testify for you, they will testify against you. “Yaa Rabbee. We were with him and he did this and that.” It is said that Allah (swt) has put seven witnesses that are always with you, watching you and they will testify against you or for you. What are they? The first is makaan, the place. The second is time. Whatever you do in every hour is sealed off in a box and it goes to Yaumu ‘l-Qiyamah to be opened in the Meezaan. At the end of the day whatever you have said will be sealed off and will be sent for you to see it on the Day of Judgment.

First, the place is witness for you or against you, O Muslim! Time is a witness for you or against you. What else? Lisaan. Allah (swt) said:

On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to their actions. (Surat al-Noor, 24:24)

Your tongue will witness what you have done. You will not control it anymore, it will talk. Their tongues will speak. Place will speak. Time will speak. Your tongue will speak. What else will speak? Arkaan, as Awliyaullah have explained. Arkaan are your pillars: the arms and the legs. That is five. Your hands will testify. In Surah Yasin, Wa tukallimoona aydihim wa tashhaddu arjuluhum.

That Day shall We set a seal on their mouths. But their hands will speak to us, and their feet bear witness, to all that they did. (Surah Ya-Sin, 36:65)

Their hands will speak to Us. Their legs will testify. Do you believe that? You do. You’re a mu’min. If you are not a mu’min, there’s no point. You can do whatever you want. But you are a mu’min and you believe your hands will testify, your legs will testify, your tongue will testify, the place will testify and the time will testify. That’s five.

What else? The angels on your right and on your left will testify. That’s six. What else? Al-malakan wa ‘d-deewan. The two angels and the book.

Hadha kitaabuna yantiqu `alaykum bi ‘l-Haqq.

"This Our Record speaks about you with truth: For We were wont to put on Record all that ye did." (Surat al-Jathiya, 45:29)

This is our book. It will speak against you or for you with Truth. There are seven things. O Muslim! Don’t think that Allah (swt) is not watching you. Allah (swt) is watching you through you. Who are you? You are by Him. Do you think Allah (swt) is absent? You are up by Allah’s (swt) Noor, Allah (swt)’s Power. Allahu nooru ‘s-samawati wa ‘l-ard.

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things. (Surat al-Nour, 24:35)

Allah (swt) is the Light of the Heavens and earth. What does it mean? The Heavens are standing by Allah (swt)’s Noor. The earth is standing by Allah (swt)’s Noor. Without His Noor, they are not standing, they are gone. You are the same. You are up by Allah (swt)’s Noor. Allah (swt) is within you by His Noor. Allah (swt) is around you by His `Ilm. You are nothing outside of the Ocean of Allah (swt)’s Qudra, Power and Light. Do you think you’re independent or out of Him or out of where He is?

There is no place that Allah (swt) is not there. What does that mean? Everything is where Allah (swt) is. We say it like that to understand. Even to say that is also wrong. You cannot talk about Allah (swt) by your imagination, but you are up by Him, O insaan. He is watching you through you. Rasoolullah (s) is telling you to do Dhikr wherever you are, read Qur’an wherever you are. That will be for you on the Day of Judgment.

Don’t think that the earth will not tell its news. The earth will have its chance. It will have its news briefing. Everybody runs to the news briefing. Nobody is concerned about the briefing of the world against the inhabitants of the world. Allah (swt) will allow that to happen. That is on Yaumu ‘l-Qiyamah.

Wa akhrajati ‘l-ardu athqaalahaa.

And the earth throws up her burdens (from within). (Surah Az-Zalzalah, 99:2)

And the earth will throw out whatever is in it. What is in the earth? The treasures, the gold and the dead. First the gold will come out. Wa qalal insaanu maalaha. Insaan will say, “What’s happening to the earth?” It is said that the killer will come and look at the gold and say, “For this I have killed.” The one who cuts his kinship, the one that takes his family or his friends or his neighbors as enemies will say, “For this I have cut my kinship ties.” The thief, the burglar, the cheater, the liar will say, “For this I stole.” All three of them will look at it and leave it and go because it doesn’t matter anymore.

That is the bait of Shaytan, O human being. He baits you mostly with maal, wealth, and nisa, women, like this guy from North Carolina who we just heard about. That’s your bait. If you follow messengers, you understand. A mu’min is never deceived by gold.

By men whom neither traffic nor merchandise can divert from the Remembrance of Allah, nor from regular Prayer, nor from the practice of regular Charity: Their (only) fear is for the Day when hearts and eyes will be transformed (in a world wholly new). (Surat Al-Noor, 24:37)

A mu’min can never be deceived by wealth. A mu’min can never be deceived by women or the opposite, but we say “women” so people understand. A mu’min can never be deceived by these things to leave his deen, to leave the honor he will receive on the Day of Judgement. He knows Allah (swt) is watching. Wa ma ta’maloona min amalin illa kuna alaykum shuhooda.

In whatever business thou mayest be, and whatever portion thou mayest be reciting from the Qur'an,- and whatever deed you (mankind) may be doing,- We are witnesses thereof when ye are deeply engrossed therein. Nor is hidden from thy Lord (so much as) the weight of an atom on the earth or in heaven. And not the least and not the greatest of these things but are recorded in a clear record. (Surah Yunus 10:61)

“Whatever `amal, deed, you do, We are witnesses upon it.” That is why the Muslim is always--not scared, because you shouldn’t be scared of Allah (swt). He doesn’t want to disappoint his Lord. That's what you need to do, not be scared of Him. He is not a monster. He is a Loving One like your father, for example. He gets mad at you but you know that he loves you. He gets mad at you just because he wants to protect you from yourself. That’s how you should see Allah (swt). That’s how you should see Rasoolullah (s). They are not monsters. They are not mad at you. They’re not there to hurt you, rather they are out there to save you and protect you. Take heed, O insaan!

I will finish here but just so you know that Rasoolullah (s) is Ra’ufun Raheem. He is kind, tender and merciful and worries about his Ummah. It is narrated in the books of Awliyaullah that Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (r) said, Archangel Jibril came to Rasoolullah (s) and said, inna rabbaka yuqriyuka ’s-salam. “Allah (swt) is sending salam to you and He is asking why you are struck with sorrow and grief.” Allah (swt) knows. He said, “I am worrying about my Ummah on Yawmu ‘l-Qiyamah.” Rasoolullah (s) sees Yawmu ‘l-Qiyamah. His iman is so high that it’s not only in his mind when he wants to remember it. Basically he is seeing it in front of him.

Kallaa law ta`lamoona `ilma ’l-yaqeen.

Nay, were ye to know with certainty of mind, (ye would beware!) (Surah at-Takathur 102:5)

Latarwunna ‘l-jaheem

Ye shall certainly see Hell-Fire! (Surat at-Takathur, 102:6)

If your knowledge is certain, you will see Jaheem, Hellfire in front of you. This is for Awliyaullah and Anbiyaullah. They always see it because they have reached that yaqeen. We are still struggling to reach iman. They have reached yaqeen. He asked, “Why are you sad?” He said, “I am sad about my Ummah on Yawmu ‘l-Qiyamah. How will they be?” It is said that he took him to a cemetery of Bani Salamah. He struck his right wing on a grave and said, qum bi idhnillah. “Rise by the permission of Allah (swt).” That man stood up full of light saying, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah (s). Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen, finally,” because he’s going to get his rewards. Then he said, “Go back,” and he went back.

With the other wing, he struck another grave. A man came out with his face darkened, the darkness of evil, bad deeds and character. He said, “O my heavy heart, O my sorrow and grief.” He is struck with sorrow and grief. He is down in the dumps. Why? Because he has done the worst that he can do. He said, “Yaa Rasoolullah (s). That is how they are going to come back on the Day of Judgement. As they died, they will come out.”

So, try to die on, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah.” You never know when you’re going to die. How do you know which is your moment? You never know. As you die, you will be resurrected, so make sure you are always on the path of, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah, always on the path of, Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen which is the beginning of the Holy Qur’an. Allah (swt) started the Holy Qur’an with hamd, praises and thanks to Allah (swt). Yaa Rabbee, thank You. That’s how you start your way to Him, by thanking Him because when you say “thank you,” He will give you mercy. That’s why you say, “Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-Alameen.” What’s the verse behind it? Ar-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem. If you say, “Alhamdulillah,” Allah (swt) is promising you two mercies: the mercy of dunya and the mercy of Akhirah. And then you say, “Maaliki Yawmi ‘d-Deen,” because that is your end.

He’s not telling you so many things. He is just telling, “Start with praising Me. I will give you My Mercy because there is Yawmu ‘d-Deen.” Three verses are enough for you, O insaan. If you don’t know the Holy Qur’an, if you don’t read the books that are behind people’s backs on shelves but know these three verses, it’s enough for you.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. Always been on the lookout. Allah (swt) is watching. Rasoolullah (s) is watching. He said, tu`radu `alayya `amalu Ummati.

On me is exhibited the `amal, deeds of my Ummah. Rasoolullah (s) is watching you too, so do your best. If you know you’re being watched, you are very good. In China, everybody knows that they’re watched so everybody is on their best behavior. Why? Social credit score. If you’re not good, you don’t get good things. If you’re good, you can do whatever you want. Take it as an example.

They ask, “Why are we suffering?” Maybe your social score is not great in front of Allah (swt), O Muslim. Two hundred years ago you started degrading your Prophet and so many followed suite. It has spread throughout the whole Islamic world how to demean the Prophet, how to put him down as a regular person like you and me. How is he a regular person like you and me? That is the siffah of the munafiq, the hypocrite. The hypocrite said:

They say, "If we return to Medina, surely the more honorable (element) will expel therefrom the meaner." But honor belongs to Allah and His Messenger, and to the Believers; but the Hypocrites know not. (Surat al-Munafiqun 63:8)

When I return to Madinah, the highest honored one will kick out from Madinah the lowest one. That was the munafiq, Ibn Abi Salul. He said, “When I return to Madinah, the most honored one,” as he thinks of himself, the hypocrite, head of the hypocrites, ra’eesu ‘l-munafiqeen. It is in Surat al-Munafiqoon.

Not, “Laa ya`lamoon.” meaning they don’t know. Rather, they read but they don’t understand. For 250 years they’ve been reading but they don’t understand. Why did you degrade and demean your Prophet?! Know what’s happening to you.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. Honor your Prophet. Know that he is `Azeez. If you say that he is `Azeez, you have taken the siffah, character, of a mu’min. If you say, “He is only like me and you,” you are ذليل (dhaleel) somebody following your desires and running after dunya. How can he be like you? You can say any word for the king, the prince, president or prime minister [in order] to give you some sweet stuff. They change their tongues as they like. Whatever was baatil for them 50 years ago, now is okay. You could not say “Mawlid” 50 years ago? What changed? Does Haqq change? Does the truth change? The truth never changes. Truth is truth from one million years ago and it is truth now. Why did you say it’s wrong 50 years ago and now it’s okay? That means you change your tongue.

May Allah (swt) forgive us. I think it’s enough. It’s too much information and there is no need for that. Pray in the best way you can in front of your Lord and send your prayers and blessings the best way you can to Rasoolullah (s). Ask for forgiveness. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen Ar-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem Maliki Yawmi ‘d-Deen. It is enough for you.

May Allah (swt) forgive us.
