Zhuhr Suhbah

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta'ala al-`Azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een.

An `abd, servant, is subject to a master and, therefore, must accept he is `aajiz, helpless. A man or a woman who has a master is ready for testing in daily life, but all of us are servants of Allah (swt): He is our Master, our Creator, and we have to do what He wants, not what we want, and what He wants is known.

I have only created jinn and men so they may worship Me. No sustenance do I require of them, nor do I require they should feed Me. (Surat adh-Dhariyat, 51:56-57)

Allah says, “I provide for them.” Our only duty is to be in `Uboodiyya, the spiritual Level of Servanthood; then Allah will provide and it is not necessary for us to worry. Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is The Most Perfect Servant, as Allah said, “Glory be to Me!”

Glory be to He Who transported His servant. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:1)

We are His `abd, and Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is The Perfect `Abd, whom Allah took to the Divine Presence in Israa` and Mi`raaj. Other than that, we are either `abdu ‘r-Rahman or `abdu ’sh-Shaytan, you choose, both ways are open to you. Who can claim we are doing enough to be called ‘`abd’? We are not `abd, we are `ubayd, tasagheer `abd, the most diminished `abd, going down seven levels to the lowest form, the least ‘abd that cannot raise his head and say, “I am `Abdullah.”

Just now it came to my mind to mention Haroon ar-Rasheed (q), a wali who is buried in Sham. In his time, they mostly womanized and drank wine, and a respected person narrated what happened with him. One night at his palace he was drunk, totally not good, and he needed to make wudu and ghusl. As he sat on the palace dome watching the stars, he heard someone knocking, but when he looked no one was there.

Finally, when he woke up he saw a man and said, “What are you doing on my dome?”

The man said, “Oh, I’m sorry. I lost my camel.”

Stunned, Haroon ar-Rasheed said, “You are checking for your camel up here on the dome?”

The man said, “Yes, as there is possibility I will find my camel on your dome; however, in your state, there is no possibility you will find Allah (swt).”

Haroon ar-Rasheed immediately took a shower, cleaned up, and directed himself towards Allah. We are all intoxicated by dunya; everyone is drunk on what they are doing. If you are balancing between dunya and Akhirah, that is okay, but if you forget about Akhirah and only think about dunya, Awliya teach us to as Prophet (s) taught his Sahaabah (r): leave dunya and run for Akhirah. When that man said, “You will never find Allah (swt) in your current situation,” Haroon ar-Rasheed was afraid! The Perfect One, Whom Allah called His ‘`abd’, is Prophet (s). Laa shareeka lahu, Allah has no shareek in Creation and Prophet has no shareek in his servanthood, as Allah mentioned in Surat al-Israa’:

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلاً مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ

مِنْ آيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ البَصِيرُ

Glory be to He Who transported His servant by night from the Inviolable House of Worship (at Mecca) to the Remote House of Worship (at Jerusalem), the environs of which We had blessed so that We might show him some of Our symbols, for verily He Alone is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:1)

“Praise be to Allah (swt) who took His Messenger on a journey from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa,” and showed him everything in dunya, then took him to Akhirah! Allah (swt) says:

Run to Allah (from all that is false and evil)! (Surat adh-Dhaariyaat, 51:50)

If you want to run to Allah (swt) without a vehicle, it is impossible. Allah gave a vehicle to Prophet (s), who gave a vehicle to the Ummah: follow his footsteps, which is not too much. To say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah” is the foundation on which everyone can build. To acknowledge in your heart, your thoughts, with every cell of your body, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” we cannot do that as we have not reached the level of `Uboodiyya, we are in a soup, mixed with our sins and good deeds. So when we say “laa ilaaha illa-Llah” it is only by tongue. Is it complete? No. Allah likes it to be completed.

When you say “laa ilaaha illa-Llah” you are mentioning Allah's Name, then He will mention your name. We need the remembrance that comes from Allah to us. We remember Him in every moment but it is not pure. Allah will create for you a breath to make it pure; Allah will give you a breath in and a breath out, it enters with all hasanaat, with a nice smell, and it goes out with the poison that you have in your body. When you say “laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” Allah will create angels on the numbers of cells in your body. To say “laa ilaaha illa-Llah” is Miftah al-Jannah, the Key to Paradise.

Allah (swt) orders us:

قُلِ الله ثُمَّ ذَرْهُمْ فِي خَوْضِهِمْ يَلْعَبُونَ

Say "Allah," then leave them to plunge in vain discourse and trifling. (Surat al-An`am, 6:91)

Think with what Allah (swt) will reward you: whatever you think there is more above it! If He gives you “x,” “y” will be exponentially more, beyond any limit. In the body, there is a harmonic sound that angels hear, but with dhikrullah you will begin to hear it. That is why Allah (swt) said He will give you heavenly hearing and vision:

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees…. (Hadith Qudsi, Bukhari)

Don't think it is too much for Allah, it is nothing, it is by kun faya koon! “That is what I give to My servants who recognize I am The Creator and that Muhammad is My servant. That is what I want from them, then I give them whatever I want.” Allah does not put anything in a safe, His safes are open; take whatever you want!

Today they speak about al-bee’a, clean environment, but your body is already polluted by Shaytan. According to Awliyaullah, when Allah created human beings He granted them a lifespan of 137 years. All previous prophets had longer lives, but Ummat an-Nabi (s) has an average life of 70 years. We don't see anyone reach 137 years because our bad `amal eat from our lifespan.

We ask Allah (swt), inshaa-Allah it is a moment of acceptance, I was just coming and sitting with `Ali Husain and we were speaking. I came with a heavy load on me, something happened. So I was sitting and it crossed my mind, “Why not recite Imam Shafi’s du`a?” I will read it.

Du`a Imam Shafi`i

Yaa man yugheeth al wara min ba`di maa qanatoo,

irham abeedan akuffa ‘dh-dhulla qad basatu,

Wa-’stamtaroo ghaythaka ‘l-maʿhooda fa-’sqihim

ghaythan yureehim ridan ma shaabaha sakhatu,

inna ‘l-bahaaima adha ‘l-jadba martaʿuha,

wa-’t-tayru asbaha li-’l-hasbaa’i yaltaqitu,

fa-aa`mil al-kull bi-’l-fadli ‘lladhee alifoo,

yaa ʿaadilan laa yuraa fee hukmihi shatatu,

fa anta akramu mas'oolin tamuddu lahu

Yada ‘l-usaati wa-in jaaroo wa-in qanatoo.

O He Who aids Mankind when they despair!

Have mercy on servants, remove their lowliness, they have been flattened!

Bring down Your promised rain to water them,

To show them contentment that never resembled wrath.

Indeed, the animals’ pastures have become barren,

And the birds have started collecting pebbles.

So treat everyone with the generosity they are fond of,

O Just One, in Whose Rule excess is not seen,

For You are The Most Noble, responsible, reaching to

the hand of the disobedient, whether they are unjust or whether they despair.

Imam Shafi`i is asking Allah, yaa man yughieeh al-wara ba`di maa qanatoo, “O You, Who waters the Earth (or your body) with raham.” The du`a is for rain; when you have drought read that du`a and rain will come. When I was sitting with them speaking before the suhbat about something, it was as if Sayyidina Imam ash-Shafi`i spiritually passed (through the majlis), which was a sign to recite his du`a. So I recited part of the du`a and then we heard heavy rain for two minutes, not more. This is a sign that inshaa-Allah this `alam, world ma al-hayaat, the water of life that Sayyidina Dhul Qarnayn and Sayyidina Khidr (a) sought will bring life back to those who have problems in their hearts and inshaa-Allah, with that du`a Allah will take away all problems.

Suddenly, as soon as we finished reading the du`a the rain came; you don't know when Allah (swt) will accept. Our duty is to make du`a and the angels’ duty is to distribute Allah's rewards and treasures on us. Allah likes us to call on Him and for us to do what He wants from us, but we are not calling on Him. In general the whole Ummah is not focusing on what Allah has told us though Prophet (s), although it is our obligation to take what Prophet gives us:

وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُ

Leave what Prophet forbade and take what he ordered. (Surat al-Hashr, 59:7)

He (s) said, “When the time of fitna comes stay at home, don't listen to gossips, because Shaytan is free.” Now Shaytan is free, he can go everywhere. If you want to protect yourself then cover yourself and do dhikrullah. You will feel happiness and your problems will be resolved, because this is of the experiences of Awliyaullah with the dhikr of ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah’. In seclusion you can recite laa ilaaha illa-Llah from one-hundred times with no limit up: you can recite it 100,000, 500,000, 1 million times, or whatever you can reach. Similarly, with the Dhikr al-Jalala, reciting “Allah, Allah”, you can go up without a limit, you go up in that ascension.

From the dhikr of the Awliyaullah and of those from the Ummah that follow them, from Lafzh al-Jalala, Allah will create and assign a special angel. In a vision that angel is like a green bird sitting on a heavenly dome making dhikrullah. That dome is the Dome of Rizq, al-rizq al-ma`nawi wa rizq al-mantee ad-dunyawee, the spiritual dome and the dunya dome (the physical provision) which is to have good food and good things, together with rizq al-ma`nawi which is recitation to rejuvenate the soul and the body, through which Allah rejuvenated Sayyidina Zakariyya (a) and his wife to have a child, Yahya (a). Awliyaullah say that when you make dhikrullah, Allah will create an angel from from that tasbeeh. If you again recite tasbeeh a moment later, Allah will create an angel different from the first one that will make tasbeeh to Allah (swt) on your behalf .

Allah will ask that angel, “I like the pure breath I created from that tasbeeh. What does my `abd want?”

The angel will say, “He wants to make tasbeeh to You.”

Allah will say, “What do you like for that `abd, O My angel?”

It will say, “Your `abd has praised You, yaa Rabbee! I ask You to honor him and purify him from every sin he commits from this moment to the Day of Judgement.”

The tasbeeh you made once, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” will continue asking Allah non-stop for you to be purified and rejuvenated, like Sayyidina Zakariyya (a).

Then Allah will ask His angel, “What do you want for him?”

The angel will answer, “He is Your sincere `abd, saying Shahaadah. I want his happiness in dunya.”

What kind of happiness? It is not happiness sitting and speaking with each other; no, it is when Allah forgives all the sins of his ancestors going all the way back to Adam (a), to write them as utaqa ‘r-rahmah from that moment to the Day of Judgment. Such is the benefit of one breath uttering Sultan adh-Dhikrullah. Some Awliyaullah were able to complete Sultan adh-Dhikr once, some twice and some up to nine times. We will leave how to recite with Sultan adh-Dhikr for next time.

“Yaa Rabbee! I want You, from Your Generosity, to forgive all his ancestors as he is making tawheed on their behalf.” Allah will say, “You will get what you want,” and Allah (swt) will, if He wishes, forgive not only him but the whole Ummah. Allah forgave the whole Ummah of Prophet (s) and all other Ummahs for (the sake of) one person, Sayyidina Muhammad (s), Allah has already forgiven us, “You were the best best Ummah that has been sent.” He didn’t use the present tense, but rather the past tense:

كُنتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ تَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ

You were the best of Nations evolved for Mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong and believing in Allah. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:110)

Finished! What is better than, “You were the best Ummah sent to humanity.” What must we do in return? We must put our head on the ground in sajda and ask forgiveness from that moment to our last moment! That is why Awliyaullah ask their followers to say “Astaghfirullah“ five-hundred times every day, astaghfirullah on everything we did wrong from the time of the Day of Promises until the present day, and another five-hundred times astaghfirullah from today until the Day of Judgement, to protect us from Shaytan. Allah is looking after us but we are not looking after Him with `uboodiyyah. Our duty is to remember that He is the Lord to be worshipped and no one else, not ourselves or anyone else! May Allah bless us with barakat an-Nabi (s).

Allah (swt) will do that, “I forgave all of them, all his grandparents and ancestors, and they are in My Paradise.” That is for one, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” and the beautiful breath coming from our mouths with, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” will say on our behalf, “O our Lord, that is something small for Your Greatness, You can give more!” Arabic 34:45 Hadhaa shayun yaseer bin nismati bi karaamik.

Allah will say, “What more do you want?”

That tasbeeh angel will reply, “Change all his bad `amal to hasanaat, and whoever is with him or her, for their `amal to be changed from bad too good.” That is for one breath in the presence of Allah (swt) on your behalf, what about two breaths? You cannot limit what Awliyaullah say, they go very quick, they go high, they don't shoot low, they always aim high. When Awliyaullah have visions… Allahu Akbar! [Sound of rain that begins to pour. Mawlana recites du`a of Imam Shafi`i.]

Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad wa `alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad. Be happy! Enjoy yourself with rahmatullah, and this rahmah also comes by rain. It is double rahmah. I am speaking to the viewers, be happy! There is nothing to take in this dunya, you are leaving and going, as Sayyidina `Ali (r) karam-Allahu wajha wa `alayhi ’s-salaam, said and we follow, `amal li dunyaka ka annaka ta`ayshu abadan wa `amal li akhiratika kama tamootu ghadan, “Do for this life as if you will live forever and do for Akhirah as if you will die tomorrow.”:

اعمل لدنياك كأنك تعيش أبدا واعمل لآخرتك كأنك تموت غدا

Work for this life as if you will live forever and work for the next life as if you will die tomorrow.

It means that you will do your best because you know you are dying tomorrow, you are leaving dunya by force. Don’t leave it by force, leave it with happiness. Be happy, Allah will forgive us, but do your prayers and obligations and whatever Allah has mentioned in the Holy Qur’an and Prophet (s) has mentioned in Holy Hadith.

The breath will say, “Yaa Rabbee! I have to ask You, the breath you created me from, I ask You not only to forgive his and his ancestors’ sins but for anyone that sat, prayed, fasted or ate with him to be with us.” Allah will say, “I give you that also.” That is for one breath; you will become richer than dunya and Akhirah, dunya will become nothing. Dunya does not weigh the wing of a mosquito to Allah (swt), the wing of a mosquito is more valuable than the whole dunya.

If the value of this dunya weighed the wing of a mosquito, Allah would never give a cup of water for the unbelievers to drink. (Tirmidhi)

Allah created dunya and did not look at it. Alhamdulillahi’ ladhee khalaqa’ l-khalq min `adamin thumma `adamahu. “Praise be to The One Who created Creation from non-Existence then made it non-existent.” Allah created Creation from nothing: He did not combine two things, as Dr. Nour mentioned in his subhah two days ago. When you combine anything, you build your own invention from something and say, “I created this.” You used what is already exists, you didn’t create from nothing. Your DNA, genes and cells already exist on a foundation, which is important. Allah created everything from nothing: in less than the blink of an eye everything appeared! With His divine wisdom and will, from His Beautiful Name “al-Khaliq” He creates everything. The divine secret came from one Sacred Name and Allah (swt) created this dunya. It was dry when He created it; there were no trees, no water, there was nothing. What happened for it to turn green, for water to fall and oceans to merge?

He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together. (Surat ar-Rahman, 55:19)

SubhaanAllah, after the Earth was dry, Allah brought it back to hayaat, life, but how? When Allah sent Sayyidina Adam (a) from Paradise to Earth, as soon as Adam’s feet touched Earth everything became green because they had walked in Allah's Paradise. Everything changed from dry to living, because in Paradise your whole body is alive--there is no sickness or impurity, everything is pure--so everything became pure and green, but we destroyed it. May Allah (swt) restore the Earth to green and rejuvenate us. To raise your hands and make du`a, one dhikrullah is better than all their conferences and million dollar environmental programs! May Allah change our hearts, minds and bodies, and rejuvenate them to do good for Akhirah. Dunya is now passing; where are people (what is their position)?

Grandshaykh (q) told the story of when Alexander the Great was near death, he told his generals, “When I die, put my hands outside the coffin, not inside it.”

They said, “ O our master! We cannot do that, you are the king, the emperor.”

He said, “No, you must do it.” Then he wrote his last testament and said, “When I die, place me in the coffin and read this to the people.” Although he was the most powerful man on Earth, he left dunya, just as we will.

His final words were read: “O my nation, my soldiers, my government, my kingdom! This is Alexander the Great, who conquered the world. Now my hands are uncovered to show you that just as I came into the world naked, I am going naked. I take nothing except my memories.”

This is what we need, that when people see us they remember Allah is Ghafoor ar-Raheem, The One Who Forgives. His people understood that Allah wants us to be happy. He tests us so that we make dhikrullah and tasbeeh, but He doesn't want us to go empty handed. What are the best treasures He will give us from His Generosity which never ends, as He is “al-Khaliq,” The Creator: He created generosity and His Generosity continuously comes on everyone! He certified that you are from Ummat an-Nabi (s), that you did well when you said, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah,” that you deserve to be certified.

Allah certified our left and right hands: on the left hand is (the mark of the Arabic number) “81” and in the right is “18,” is it not? Add them, it indicates the Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names. How will your hands be in Hellfire when the Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names and Attributes are certified on them? That is enough for you on the Day of Judgement! Yaa Rabbee! This is our ticket to Paradise, these are Your Ninety-Nine Names. May Allah (swt) open the secrets of His Ninety-Nine Names for us and dress us with His Rahmah, bi jahi habeeb al-Mustafa wa bi jahi sirri asraari Surat al-Fatihah.

Dear viewers, this is a Ramadan Series. May Allah (swt) accept your and our prayers and inshaa-Allah grant that we will be His servants and good representatives on Earth, glorifying His Name, and the name of His Prophet, Sayyidina Muhammad ` alayhi afdalu 's-salaatu wa 's-salaam, bi sirri asraari Surat al-Fatihah.

We are weak and helpless! Nothing comes from our hands. With His Generosity, Allah gives us a lot. May He forgive us, bless us, and keep giving without end to the whole Universe, inshaa-Allah! Whatever Allah created and gave to Prophet (s), may He grant us a share. Everyone worships Allah (swt): an ant, any animal, any insect, any bird is making tasbeeh, so let us also praise Allah! Taqabbal-Allah.

And there is not a thing but celebrates His praise! (Surat al-Israa’, 17:44)

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
