Do You Curse the Disobedient Ones?

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

22 September 2024 Fajr Allen, Texas USA

Especially with the intention of the ones who are sick, to come out of that unit. Whoever is sick in the hospitals, we are asking for the sake and honor of Rasoolullah (s), for Your love to him and for his love to You. The ones who are sick, give them shifaa, yaa Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen, quick shifaa. Take them out of the critical conditions they are in, to stable conditions and discharge them from the hospital, yaa Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen, from the spiritual hospital and from the physical hospital.

Also, we are asking for an abundance of rizq. Yaa Rabbee, You can give as much as You want. We are asking from all the khair that You have the treasures of, yaa Rabbee. We are asking You to shelter us from all of the evil of the people of what You have created in people, yaa Rabbee. We are asking khayru ‘l-rizq wa khayru ‘-d-darayn, Yaa Rabbee. We are also asking for the honor and sake of Rasoolullah (s) to grant our children iman, to grant them Islam, to allow them to be raised up in this country according to what You like, according to what Rasoolullah (s) likes. Don’t let us go astray. It is very easy, yaa Rabbee. Our egos keep taking us astray but with Your hifz, protect our children, protect us as well, yaa Rabbee. Make us firm on Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah (s) in our life, upon our death, in our qabr and also on the Day of Resurrection when You resurrect us. Make us firm on, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah, make us from the ahl of, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah, from the owners, from the family of, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah (s). Ameen.

May Allah (swt) grant you. You are coming to majlisu ‘l-Awliya, you are coming to majlisu ‘d-dhikr. Allah (swt) certainly knows what happened to you, certainly knows what’s happening to you and certainly knows what will happen to you. You are not out of His `ilm. Always come back to Allah (swt) in your du`a. Of course, Allah (swt) has said and Rasoolullah (s) has said that if the Muslim brother asks for his brother, Allah (swt) will accept. That’s why in the Fatiha we say, iyyaka na`buda, “We worship You,” wa `iyyaka nasta`een. Even if you’re praying by yourself, you don’t say, iyyaka `abudu, “I worship You,” no. You still say, “`iyyaka na`buda,” we worship You.

One of the wisdoms is that among the people in jama`ah, when he is asking for Siratu ‘l-Mustaqeem for his honor, Allah (swt) might guide everybody to Siratu ‘l-Mustaqeem. You are gathered in the du`a of that saliheen. That’s why it is preferable to pray in jama`ah because among jama`ah, you might have Waliyullah. The barakah of that Waliyullah will save all of the people who are praying. This is one of the wisdoms of why it is plural, “We worship You,” even when you are by yourself. May Allah (swt) always make us with Awliyaullah.

Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Inshaa-Allah, a few words that I have heard and understood from our shuyookh. Imam Haythami (r) has mentioned this in his book, Majma adh-Dawa’ib. It is said that one night Rasoolullah (s) had two visitors--angels. They came and said, “Yaa Rasoolullah. Close your eyes but open your ears and understand what we say with your heart.” It is not for him, it is for his Ummah to understand the value of Rasoolullah (s), the value of that person by the name of Muhammad (s). He was a Nabi like all the others. All the Anbiya that have come are all perfect ones. They’re all correct. They all called to Allah (swt).

They said, “Let your eyes close. Let your ears hear and let your heart understand what we are saying.”

There is a sayyid, master, who has built a mansion. He made a table with a feast. He has sent a caller, “Hear ye, hear ye. There is a master who has prepared a big feast for you in his mansion. Come. He is calling you. RSVP.” The ones who RSVP’d with the caller and came to the mansion and ate from the feast, the master was happy with them. The ones that did not accept the invitation, did not RSVP, did not come to the mansion and did not eat from the feast, the master was upset with them. The master is Allah (swt). The dar is Jannah. The feast is the pleasures and delights of Jannah. The caller is Rasoolullah (s). Rasoolullah (s) is da`een il-Llah. He is calling you to Allah (swt).

If you want to give a simple example of what Rasoolullah (s) is, he is somebody who is inviting you for your pleasure. It is for you. He’s inviting you to a place that you will delight in, that you will have pleasure, that Allah (swt) has prepared for you. As Sayyidina Isa (a) was, he said and it is mentioned in Surah Saff:

Wa idh qaala Musa li qawmihi yaa qawmi lima tu’dhunanee wa qad ta’lamoona inni Rasoolullahi illaykum falama zaghu azaa Allahu qoolubahum wa ‘Llahu la yahdi ‘l-qawma ‘l-fasiqeen.

And remember, Moses said to his people: "O my people! why do you vex and insult me, though you know that I am the apostle of Allah (sent) to you?" Then when they went wrong, Allah let their hearts go wrong. For Allah guides not those who are rebellious transgressors. (Surat as-Saff, 61:5)

Also in Surah Ma’idah:

Wa idh qaala Musa li qawmihi yaa qawmi idhkuru ni`matAllahi `alaykum idh ja’ala feekum anbiya’a wa ja’alakum malooka wa atakum malam yu’ti ahada mina ‘l-`alameen.

Remember Moses said to his people: "O my people! Call in remembrance the favor of Allah unto you, when He produced prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given to any other among the peoples. (Surat al-Ma’idah, 5:20)

“O my nation! Why are you harming me with words and you know I am Rasoolullah for you.”

Rasoolullah (s) was every Nabi that has come to deliver that message but the original Rasoolullah, and all of them have taken from him, is Sayyidina Muhammad (s). His example is as such. He has invited you for your Eternal happiness. He has invited you for your Eternal pleasure and delight. Why don’t you accept? Because Shaytan says, “No, no, come with me to the other side. The other side is nicer. Look at how beautiful it is.” At the door of Jahannam are all the desires.

Get to desires and you are knocking on the door of Jahannam as Rasoolullah (s) has said, the Fire has been encircled with human desires. Your human desires may give you pleasure but might hurt others. Every desire that you crave, if you do not control it, it will either hurt you or it will hurt your family or it will hurt your community. That is why Allah (swt) has restricted these desires. If you let loose your egoistic desires, you will burn everybody in your way because you want to get these desires.

The mu’min is the one who accepted. The mu’min is the one who has curbed their enthusiasm and has curbed their desires. They have done what Rasoolullah (s) told them to do in order to get there. If you ask, “What are the directions? Sayed bhai, I want to come. How do I get there?” The Qur’an al-Kareem, the Injeel, the Holy Torah. These books have come with directions on how to get there. You want to come to the feast and you’re interested in what’s there, but how do I get there? It is simply directions.

Allah (swt) Himself is directing you through the Qur’an al-Kareem, “Come to Me. I will show you the way.”

“What happens if I take the wrong turn or the wrong exit?”

“That is why I have sent you a guide. Go with him and you will find your way. You will not understand the directions incorrectly.”

Mashaa-Allah, so many people read directions and end up on the other side of town. Isn’t it true? How many times has it happened to you? If you don’t take one, you might find your way by yourself but if you take a guide, certainly he will get you to that door. That is Rasoolullah (s). Inshaa-Allah, we can follow his teachings to the tee.

It is said that the angels who are writing on your right and left side--and of course the angels of the mu’min are busy on the right. What happens when the mu’min passes away? They apply for unemployment benefits. The angels have no work anymore. The mu’min is dead.

It is said that they say, “Yaa Rabbee. Our friend died. What do we do now? Can we come up to Heavens to praise You?” Awliyaullah have narrated that Allah (swt) will tell them, “No. My Heavens are full of angels praising Me. There is no need for you to come up here.”

“What do we do?”

“Go to the grave of My servant. Praise Me there and write it for him.”

Your angels that are busy writing your hasanaat are never jobless, whether you are alive or dead. That is for the mu’min. They write everything that is good for you and the one on the right tells the one on the left, “Hold off your pen until I tell you to do so.” If you make a mistake, you have six or seven hours. Actually, it is lifelong as you might repent from that sayyi’ah. The angel tells him, “Don’t write anything yet. Our friend might regret what he or she has done and might ask forgiveness from Allah (swt).”

They only want to write the good things. When they write one, it is multiplied by ten, twenty, a hundred, thousand times. That is how much Allah (swt) loves you. When you do wrong, you think that angel writes it down quickly. As soon as you don’t or even if you don’t do it, it is written because you had that intention. Your angels are busy writing good deeds for you. When you pass away, your angels are also writing. Whatever they do of praise, it is being written for you.

On the Day of Judgement, for the mu’min again, Allah (swt) will say, “Read your book.” As Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) has explained, the mu’min will look at his book and will say, “O my Lord. I don’t think this is my book. There are so many things in here that I have never done.” He said, “But you made the intention and because you made the intention, I have written it for you.” In your book you will find Allah (swt)’s Mercy that has filled up your scroll with good deeds that you intended to do but lo and behold, something happened and you didn’t do it. But it was written for you.

It is also said that when you say, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah, it will be written in your scroll but when it comes to your book, it will only be written next to another, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah you have said. That is why it is said, jaddidoo imanikum. Repeat your iman. Repeat the Shahadah. Repeat Kalimah Tayyibah. It’s scanning, it’s looking for its match and when it scans over the sayyi’ah, it erases it. It is said that when Laa ilaaha illa-Llah comes to take its place on your scroll, whatever it passes over from bad deeds, it erases all of them until it finds its equivalent which is another Kalimah Tayyibah and sits next to it. When you say, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah, all of your bad deeds are being erased by that Kalimah Tayyibah coming to take its place in your book of good deeds. These are all glad tidings from our shuyookh from the kalaam of Rasoolullah (s). That is what he has revealed and told them. That is all the Mercy of Allah (swt) that is for you, O mu’min.

How about the `aasi, the disobedient one, the non-mu’min? What do we do? Again, Awliyaullah have said that when Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) was shown Heavens and earth and he understood as he could from the Greatness of Allah (swt), `Azhamatu ‘Llah, from the Beauty, from the Rahmah, from the Blessings of Allah (swt), he understood that Allah (swt) should not be disobeyed. Sayyidina Ibrahim (as) saw a disobedient one and said, “Yaa Rabbee. This shouldn’t happen. Take him away.” Allah (swt) took him away. He saw another `aasi and said, “Yaa Rabbee. This one too, take him away.” Do you also do that for the Texans that are not mu’min? Do you do that for the Americans that are not mu’mins. Do you do that for the Europeans that are not mu’mins? Do you do that for the Asians that are not mu’mins? How many Muslims pray against them? How many mu’mins say, “Take them away. Take them away.”

Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) was teaching us a lesson, “Take them away. Take them away.” The first one, second one, third one, fourth one and Allah (swt) revealed, Ibrahim, stop. If We take away every disobedient one, there will remain nobody from khalq because sooner or later, everybody will be disobedient. But We give them time because if they repent, I forgive them.” Look at Allah (swt)’s Mercy. As we said, there are so many things for the believer. For the non-believer, Allah (swt) is giving them time, giving them a break. “We give them mughlat, respite. If they ask for forgiveness and repent, We forgive them. If they don’t, they will never be out of Our Hand. Sooner or later they will come back to Us.”

Allah (swt)’s teaching for us is, don’t make du`a, don’t pray, don’t ask for destruction of these people. Give them time. Inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) will guide their hearts to understand their mistakes and repent. If they don’t, fa laa yafootuna, “They will never escape Us. We have them in Our Hand.” Instead of making prayers against the bad ones, make prayers for them to be guided as Rasoolullah (s) has said. If they are guided to faith, you will see from them what pleases you. They will become your brothers in Islam. The Americans, the Europeans, the Africans, the Asians will become your brothers and sisters. They might be better than you.

Mashaa-Allah. You say, “I’m a good Muslim. I’m a good one.” If they become Muslims five years later, maybe their Islam and iman and `amal will be better than yours. How many non-Arabs have become perfect in `ilm and `amal, knowledge and deed? Non-Arabs. I’m not saying Americans. I’m saying Bengalis. How many Bengalis were perfect in `ilm and `amal? How many Indians? Indian `ulama, perfect in `ilm. How many Awliyaullah are there from the Indian Subcontinent? How many Awliyaullah are there from Punjab or from Kashmir or from Faris or Ajam or from Afghanistan or from Turkistan? They’re not Arab but they’re better than the Arabs. They have reached much higher levels than what some of the Arabs have reached.

Allah (swt) will allow the non-Arabs that have come after to reach perfection in `ilm and `amal. You never know. They say Gengis Khan was a butcher or killer or whatever. What happened to his generation, the Turks? They have so many Awliyaullah among them. You never know how it will take shape. Instead of making du`a against them, the adab is to make du`a for them. That’s why Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) learned his lesson. It’s always about learning. The next time he invited a hundred Zorostrians for a big feast. They all came and they ate and they said, “Thank you, Ibrahim. Do you have anything to ask us? We want to do something that pleases you.” He said, “I have one thing.”

“Say what you want.”

He said, “I want you to make one sajdah to my Lord.”

They talked amongst themselves and said, “This made us so much food. He honored us. We can make one sajdah to his Lord and then we will go back to our lords, our gods. It doesn’t matter. Let’s please him and make him happy.”

So they said, “Okay, we will make sajdah to your Lord.”

He made sajdah. The minute they made sajdah, it is said that Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) opened his hands to the sky and said, “Yaa Rabbee! That is all I could do. There is nothing else that I could do. I convinced them to make sajdah to You. Yaa Rabbee, guide them.” It is said that when they made that sajdah, Allah (swt) opened that iman to their hearts. When they came out of sajdah, they all accepted Islam and they followed Sayyidina Ibrahim (a).

With that one prostration, they saw Jannah and that is the sajdah of Saharatu ‘l-Musa, the sajdah of the magicians of Moses. As Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, in one sajdah they saw their maqam in Jannah. They became Ahlu ‘l-Kashf. Kashfu ‘l-Mahjoob. Whatever was veiled was unveiled in one sajdah. That is why when Fir`awn said, “I am going to chop you up and kill you and all of that stuff,” they said, “We don’t care,” because they had seen their maqams in Jannah.

That is the same thing and these people can become Muslims at any time. You don’t know. Why did the magicians of Musa (a) accept? Why did Allah (swt) honor them with faith? Because of their adab as Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) has explained. What was their adab? They saw Musa (a) and they said, “He looks like an honorable man. O Musa. Why don’t you go first?” That was their adab. “Sir, you start. Sir, here, you go first.” They kept adab with Sayyidina Musa (a) and because of that little act of adab, Allah (swt) honored them with Jannah and iman.

Keep adab with Allah (swt). They are all His servants, even Shaytan. Don’t curse him. Awliyaullah say that he will get what he deserves. You don’t know. Leave it like that. That is the highest level. Allah (swt) has cursed Shaytan in the Holy Qur’an.

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Wa inna `alayka ’l-la`anah ila Yawmu ‘d-Deen.

"And the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgment. (Surah Al-Hijr, 15:35)

Again, he said, ila Yawmu ‘d-Deen, until that time. After that, we don’t know. That is the secret of destiny, sirru ’l-qadr. What Allah (swt) will do even with Shaytan we don’t know. So, what Allah (swt) will do with His servants we don’t know. Keep adab with Allah (swt) and say, “Yaa Rabbee. As You have guided me, guide them. As you have bestowed Your Mercy and Favors on me, bestow Your Mercy and Favors on them. It doesn’t matter what they are. It doesn’t matter what language they speak. It doesn’t matter what they do. You are the One to guide and they are Your servants.”

Rasoolullah (s) stood up one night only reciting this one verse and it is in Surah Ma’idah. Asta`eedhu billah.

In tua`dhibhum fa innahum `ibaaduka wa in taghfir lahum fa innaka Anta ‘l-`Azeezu ‘l-Hakeem.

"If You dost punish them, they are your servant: If You dost forgive them, You art the Exalted in power, the Wise. (Surat al-Ma’idah, 5:118)

“If You punish them, if You give them a hard time, they are Your servants. But if You forgive them, certainly You are the Majestic King, the Wise One. You are able to do that.”

The adab of Anbiyaullah is this ayah. Yaa Rabbee. They’re Yours. If You give them a hard time, they are Your servants. If You give them a good time, they are Your servants. You can do whatever You want. Certainly you are Al-`Azeez. You are the Majestic King, the All-Powerful, the Almighty King. Al-Hakeem, the All-Wise One Who doesn’t do anything except with wisdom.” That is the adab of the Muslim and the mu’min.

Don’t curse anybody anymore. Don’t ask for their destruction anymore. Rather, ask for their guidance and that Allah (swt) guides them. If some of them are not guided during your lifetime, they might be guided later on. That is something different. I think it’s enough.

May Allah (swt) allow us to follow suit on the way of Anbiyaullah, and to follow suit on the way of Rasoolullah (s) and allow us to be from the good ones. Yaa Rabbee, correct our spouses, correct our children and make them do what pleases our eyes.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
