Recitation of “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah”

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

29 April 2011 Lefke, Cyprus

Jumu`ah Khutbah

May Allah (swt) keep us with our shaykh and give him long life, him and his families, and all of us. If he permits me, today I will give an example which everyone can see in front of his eyes, of which he may not be aware. Everyone of you has one, two or even three computers, and you are downloading and uploading information from east to west and from north to south. All computers are connected to one main server in the world that is in San Francisco, California. That means every email you send or receive, and every text message, and every phone call you make, goes through that central computer. That means they are able to analyze … every email by itself without it being lost between these emails, because they use acute electromagnetic waves.

If that is for a human invention, what do you think about Allah’s Creation, which He gave to Sayyidina Muhammad (s), whom He sent to three different places?

Inna arsalnaaka shaahidan wa mubashshiran wa nadheera.

Verily, We sent you as a witness and a bearer of good tidings and a warner. (al-Ahzaab, 33:45; al-Fath, 48:8)

Shahidan `ala man, witness on whom? When Allah say in general it means “I am sending you Shahid”, and it means the Prophet (s) can see everyone in an instant and no one will overlap the other and he can see each one by one, wa mubashshiran and giving good tidings, “giving My messages.” Therefore, everyone has to receive that message! No one can say “I didn’t receive that message.”

Fa alhamahaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa.

He inspired the self of its good and its bad. (Ash-Shams, 91:8)

He delivered the message, good or bad, through His Prophet (s) and he is mubashshiran wa nadheera, “A bearer of good tidings and a warner” to every one, and the Prophet (s) has warned everyone.

If the European countries can make these kinds of computers and internet and carry pictures from east to west, does not the Prophet (s) have a heavenly server that can see and can hear.

O Muslims! We have to open our minds to learn that what was given to Prophet (s) is to see us.

Qaal: maa qaala `abdan laa ilaaha illa-Llah mukhlisan min kulli qalbihi illa futihat lahu abwaabi ’s-sama’i hatta tafdiy ila’l-`arsh ma ’jtunib al-kabaa’ir.

The Prophet (s) said there is no distinction; anyone who says, “laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” (which also implies, “Muhammadun Rasoolullah,”) if he says it one time with sincerity, all doors of Paradise are opened to that person if he didn’t do any kabeera (major sin).

So what do we need better than his good tidings? Yes, we do sin, we sin, but according to this hadith, say, “laa ilaaha illa-Llah” and Allah will change (the sins to goodnesses)! This is hadith of the Prophet (s) who is as-Saadiq al-Masdooq, “the Most Trustworthy Person,” (and this is his promise to us)!

Say, “laa ilaaha illa-Llah;” that is enough, that is in front of our shaykh, and from him that is conveyed to the Prophet (s)! laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah!

Anyone who says, "laa ilaaha illa-Llah” with sincerity, all doors of Paradise are open to them. According to that hadith of Prophet (s), say, "laa ilaaha illa-Llah" and that is enough! Laa ilaaha illa-Llah, Muhammadan Rasoolullah. (...)

Because he didn’t say, “laa ilaaha illa-Llah” which he was reciting in dunya and he says

yaatee al-`abd yawma ’l-qiyaamati wa lam yajida laa ilaaha ill ‘Llah fee meezaanihi. The servant comes on Judgment Day and he finds all the sins in his scale but he doesn’t find laa ilaaha illa-Llah in his Scale.

Awliyaullah assigned us recitation of "laa ilaaha illa-Llah" a thousand times daily. Are we doing that?

Fa yaquloo yaa rabbee laa ajiduhaa fee meezaanee! Fa yaqool. He says, “Where is it. I don’t find it in my Scale.”

They will say, "O my Lord! We cannot fit it!" The angels say, "We cannot fit (the barakah of that recitation) on the Scale!" Wa laa tassa`uha as-samawaati wa laa al-ard. It means of its greatness, “laa ilaaha illa-Llah” reflects the greatness of al-Khaliq, The Creator, and “Muhammadan Rasoolullah” refers to the greatness of “al-`abd,” the status of which cannot be put on a Scale as there is no room for it!

The proof of this is, subhaanAllahi wa bi-hamdihi tamla’u maa bayna samawaati wa ’l-ard w ’alhamdulillah tamlau ’l-meezaan. If you say, “subhaanAllahi wa bihamdihi,” the whole universe will be filled with that recitation, that all angels will ask forgiveness for you up to the Day of Judgment. As the meezaan is carrying the whole universe, where are you going to put, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah?”

Fa idha ’mtalla al-meezaan wa ’l-hamd lam yas`a maa ba`adahaa. This means Allah (swt) wants to tell him, "O My servant! Already your Meezaan is full; you don't need it, go to Paradise!"

Qaala ibn `AtaAllahi Sakandari, “Wa kayfa laa yafrahoonaa wa qad qaala Ta`ala ‘wa yustaghfiroona liman fil-`ard.’”

Ibn `AtaAllahi Sakandari said, “How can you not be happy when Allah said, ‘The angels are going to make istighfaar on your behalf, (42:5) and bring you to the Day of Judgment clean?’”

Wa fee Kashfi ’l-ghumma, kaana Rasoolullahi (s) yaqool, qaala Musa, 'Yaa Rabbee! `alimnee shayyan adhkuruka bihi wa adu`ka bih,' Fa qaal, 'qul Yaa Musa, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah!” Qul, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah!” Qaala, ‘Yaa Rabbu, kullu `ibaaduk yaqooloona Laa ilaaha illa-Llah!' Qaal an-Nabi (s), "Qul yaa Musa, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’!" Qaala, 'Yaa Rabbee! Innamaa ureedu shayyan takhusanee feeh' Qaala ‘Yaa Musa! Law anna ‘s-samawaati saba' wal ardeen as-saba` fee kaffah, wa ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ fee kaffata malaat bihinna laa ilaaha illa-Llah.’”

Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “O Allah! Teach me something with which I mention You, and when I ask through that which You taught me I make du`a through it.” Allah tells him to say “laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” and Musa says, “All Your servants say, ‘laa ilaaha illa-Llah.’” Allah said, “O Musa! Say, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’!” Sayyidina Musa (a) says, "O my Lord! I want something special just for me that I don't want to share with anyone else."

Look at the difference! Prophet (s) shares with everyone, but Sayyidina Musa is not sharing as he wants something for himself.

Allah is saying to him, “If all the Heavens and universe and the seven Earths are on one side of the Scale and ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ are on the other side, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah will be heavier than everything you have put on the right side.”

More than the universe and Heavens and Earth; even one time “laa ilaaha illa-Llah” is greater than everything else.

Maa min `abdin qaala laa ilaaha illa-Llah fee sa`atin min laylin aw nahaarin illa tumissat maa fi’s-saheefata min as-sayyiaat hatta taskun ila mithlihaa min al-hasanaat.

Prophet (s) said, “whenever you awake at night and say, “laa ilaaha illa-Llah,” and also during the day, that recitation will close and lock the notebook of all your sins and destroy it, as if there are no more sins, and it will change all the sins to hasanaat (good deeds)! That is the reward Allah (swt) gives when someone says “laa ilaaha illa-Llah.”

Qaal al-Imam ar-Raazi inna al-`abd yaati bi-sayyi`aatin amthaal al-jibaal wa yajidu lisaanahu qad hadamahu min kathrati dhikrillah ta`ala.

Al-Imam al-Razi said, ‘Allah's servant comes on the Day of Judgment with sins like mountains and he will find that his tongue has broken down those mountains.’”

Now you need cranes and explosives to break down a mountain; how does his tongue do that? Min kathrati dhikrullah, because he was a dhaakir, “He was always making dhikrullah, ‘laa ilaaha illa-Llah,’ dhikrullahi Ta`ala wa maa tasala bih, and any other of the Beautiful Names.”
