O believers! Allah (swt) Is in full control In His Hands are the Dominions of heavenly and earth. In his Hand is your heart, your mind, your organs, your spiritual being, your physical being. And He is the One above His servants able to make them do whatever He wants, ta`awn aw karhan, whether they like it or not. It is all in the hands of Allah (swt).
وَهُوَ ٱلْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِ
Huwa al-Qaahiru fawqa `ibaadih.
He is the irresistible, (watching) from above over His worshippers; (Surat al-An`am, 6:18)
He is the One that is above His servants, able to with them whatever He wants.
Whether you like it or dislike it, Allah (swt) is the One that is making this world and this entire universe move. May Allah forgive us.
What does Allah (swt) want from you? We are not able to do everything. For example, some people are sick, so they cannot fast Ramadan and they cannot go on Hajj. They cannot perform what Allah has decreed. What do they do? Some people are poor. They cannot give the Zakat that Allah has ordered. What do they do? If Allah does not enable you, you cannot do it. Insan, human beings think that they are powerful. Human beings think that they can do anything they want. They think they can change their destiny. “You're in control," they say. “You can change your life. You can change things.” Ay, if Allah does not enable you to do that, you cannot you cannot move an ant.
The other day, somebody sent me a message from the UK. A 30 year old or thirty-five man was just fine, eating, speaking, walking, moving like the rest of us. Then suddenly he dropped to the floor for 50 minutes. His heart pulse came back but now he is in a wheelchair, intubated and trapped within his body. He cannot speak. He cannot shake hands. He cannot look at you and talk with you. He cannot do anything. When you are 30 years old, you think you are powerful. “I can change things.” Then in 3 minutes you are down and if it was any longer than that you get brain damage. What do you do then? You're هnside this body trapped. What is worse than that? You're in prison, a jail, and cannot speak or communicate with anybody. What do you do?
These lessons to human beings teach us to be thankful. “O Allah, you have given me some power.” Not all of it. That is for Allah. Allah has all the power and might. So we have to say, “Thank you, O our Lord,. You have given me some power and enabled me to do good and to pray and to fast and to make Umrah or Hajj. It is Your Favor upon me, Ya Rabbee. It is not with my effort, my cleverness, my money, my power, or my brain that I can do this.”
وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ لِى وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ
ashkuroo lee wa la takfuroon
be grateful to me and (do) not (be) ungrateful to me. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:152)
O Insan! Allah says, “Thank Me and don't be dis-thankful” if that is a word. Don't be unthankful to Allah (swt). Be thankful to Him. And we are asking His forgiveness.
So what happens to these people that cannot complete the pillars of Islam? That falls under the hadith:
إنما الأعمال بالنيات
innama’l- `amaalu bin-niyyaat
truly actions are by intentions.
Look at Allah's door of Mercy that Rasulullah (s) has told us about. Allah will count your good intentions as the deed. “I want to do good. This and this and this and this but I couldn't.” Allah has already written it for you.
Rabbukum `alamu bima fee nufusikum in takoonii saaliheen fa innahu kaana li ’l-awaabeena ghafoora
Your Lord is most knowing of what is within yourselves. If you should be righteous [in intention] - then indeed He is ever, to the often returning [to Him], Forgiving. (Surat al-Isra, 17:25)
If you are good ones and intend goodness, Allah swt is forgiving and merciful to the ones who turn to Him. Always intend to do good for everybody. Allah loves that character. If you are like that when you do something wrong, He will forgive.
We are asking and we are coming to the door of our Lord asking Him forgiveness for those things He has ordered which we could not do. Our Lord, we are asking Your forgiveness. Then Allah will write it as if you have done it. Allah forgives humanity.
It is said that upon death a human being will see what Allah has prepared for him or her. If you have done goodness, you will see it, even if it is an atom’s weight. Our teachers have said, “You will see one goodness as mountains.” You have done something so small. A small goodness. Allah (swt) will show it to you as Mountains.
وَٱللَّهُ يُضَـٰعِفُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ
W’allahu yuda`ifu liman yasha’u w’Allahu wasi`un `aleem.
And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:261)
So Allah the Creator is saying “if you do an atom’s weight of goodness, taraahu you will see it.” But our `ulama and Awliyaullah have said you will see but you will see it as mountains. Mountains.
So do good, Ramadan is coming. You need patience in Ramadan. Allah says you need patience on sinning, that is the first step. Then you need sabr, patience, on the mubaahaat, the permitted. First leave sinning and desires and then leave what is permitted. Why? Because He wants you for Himself. Allah created you for Himself, O Insan! And Ramadan is the biggest lesson of that. Allah said, “Leave what I have allowed you to enjoy. You leave forbiddens, you leave permissible things and come to Me only.”
He is teaching you and those who comply are Ahl al-Irada, the ones that have wanted only Allah (swt).
فَإِنْ حَآجُّوكَ فَقُلْ أَسْلَمْتُ وَجْهِىَ لِلَّهِ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَنِ
Aslamtu waj-hiyya lillah wa manittaba`an.
So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to Allah [in Islam], and [so have] those who follow me." (Surat Aali-`Imran, 3:20)
It means, “I have surrendered myself to Allah and not to my desires.”
Allah (swt) said to Rasoolullah (s), “Tell them: I have surrendered myself to Allah as have those who follow me.”
It means, “I don’t follow my desires, not what I want.” That is why Allah (swt) said, الصوم لي as-sawmu lee, “fasting is for Me.” You are leaving everything, not just physical things, like food and drink, but you are leaving cheating, lying, cursing, quarreling, fighting and gossiping. You're leaving all; you are leaving dunya as it is. Where do they see the fasting person? If he or she is truly fasting they are with Allah enjoying His company.
They say, “Ramadan is coming, it is time to learn Quran.” How many times have you heard that? “Enjoy Quran for 30 days!” And after 30 days we no longer enjoy sitting with Allah? It's His Holy Book and you are conversing with Him. That's why Ramadan is important.
May Allah give us that love of ta`at, of worship and place the taste of worship of our Lord in the hearts of our children, in the hearts of our families and in our hearts as well.
Shaytan is after you to take it away. He says, “Don't fast. It's too hard. Don't fast. It's too long.” How long is it? 16 hours maximum or 17.
We read Suratu ’l-Kahf every Friday, alhamdulillah. It is said when As-habul-Kahf, the People of the Cave were in Allah's Presence their bodies did not require food for 309 years. Then, when they left the presence of Allah and woke up, the first thing they said was “get us some food.” The People of the Cave, As-habul Kahf were in the cave for over 300 years not eating and not drinking. How did their bodies survive? It is in the Holy Quran, it is not fairy tales like Cinderella, and Snow White. Quran is reality. How did their bodies survive 300 plus years without eating or drinking? Do you ponder upon it? Do you think?
Allah (swt) is asking you to leave your food and drink for 12 or 14 hours. And you say “I can't.” How about them? For 300 years their bodies did not ask for food or drink and they continued living. Is Allah (swt) capable or not? He can make you not eat and not drink for centuries and Allah (swt) is able to keep that body living..
Increase your Iman with Allah. Ask Allah (swt)! But people say, “I cannot fast 14 hours.” Say, “O Allah! Help me!” He will help you. That's why we say iyyaka na`budu wa iyyaka nasta`een. I am worshiping You but I need Your help. And Allah will give you His help. We are asking His help all the time. That's why in prayer every raka`t you are asking the help and support of the Creator: “I want to be with You but help me. Guide me.”
Guide you to where? To the way that others have taken: Awliyaullah, `ulama have taken that way. Ask: “Ya Rabbee, make me take that way. Show me that way.”
That way starts with leaving other than Allah (swt). Train yourself, O human beings, in Ramadan. It is the Shahru ’s-Siyaam wa ’l-Qiyaam, the month of fasting and worshiping at night. Train yourself to be from the good ones and Allah (swt) will accept you. When He says “Fasting is for Me and I will reward you,” it means He will reward you personally. When Allah gives He doesn't give like you and I. We count everything that we give. He (swt) gives bi ghayri hisaab, without accounting.
Everything is registered, especially the patient ones. Allah (swt) will give without any counting. That is the generosity of the Creator, the Lord of Heavens. So come, come to Him. Come to Him and ask His forgiveness. Ask His love. Ask for His mercy. And Allah will make you like As-hab al-Kahf. May Allah forgive us.
