Suhbah at Ghawthiya Masjid
Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem…. We are today in a place that the name of it is enough to say what that place is, we are in Ghawthiya Masjid, means the “Sultan of Sultans”, the “Masjid of the Sultan of Sultans”, the masjid of Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir Jilani (q) amadanaa bi madadihi, wa amaddanaa bi madadi mashaykhinaa jamee`an inshaa-Allah. Allah support us with all mashaykh, from different silsilas and specially from salaateen, not kings but salateen ad-dunya wa ’l-Akhirah, the sultans of dunya and Akhirah, they are under the protection of Prophet (s).
I don’t know what to say except that we are in a holy day and tonight is an important night for Muslims around the world, and not only for Muslims it is an important night in all Paradises and it is not something that has to pass without recognition. Allah said in Holy Qur’an, as our imam recited, may Allah give him long life, he is a very good imam that teachings are coming through the heart and going to the hearts of students and he is doing his best, may Allah compensate him and give him what he likes. Tonight is a night that many people don’t recognise but we don’t say that...its up to them, we say may Allah guide them to recognise it.
Allah said in Holy Qur’an:
إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَارَكَةٍ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ
Inna anzalnaahu fee laylatin mubaarakatin, inna kunnaa mundhireen
We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). (Surat ad-Dukhaan, 44:3)
“We have sent the Holy Qur’an in a blessed night.” Might be some people will say “Oh! But we know that Allah said in Holy Qur`an also:
إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
inna anzalnaahu fee laylatul-qadr
We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power, (Surat al-Qadr, 97:1)
So it is two places that the Qur’an has been revealed in total, completely in one revelation in Sha`aban and in Ramadan. They might ask, “Why? We understand that Holy Qur’an has been revealed in Laylat ul-Qadr, it never came to us,” and it never came to me except when he was reading that ayah, inna anzalnahu fee laylatin mubaaraka something came through that, “Yes, of course, it is in Sha`aban and in Ramadan!” as Prophet (s) said in the hadith:
رجب شهر الله، وشعبان شهري، ورمضان شهر أمتي
Rajabun shahrullah wa sha`baanu shahree wa ramadanu shahra ummattee.
Rajab is Allah's month, Sha`baan is my month and Ramadan is the month of the Ummah.
(Abul-Fath ibn Abi Fawaris in his `Amalee from al-Hasan, mursalan)
We have to be careful and to understand Rajab is the month of Allah in which all `amal of Bani Adam go to Allah directly! The angels do not carry them because it is the month of Allah and in that month He rewards Ummat an-Nabi (s) with rewards that cannot be described. That’s why He takes the `amal of the ummah directly, no need for angels to carry. Angels carry for all of us, they are carrying our `amal and cleaning it... You know when you do something, let’s say you pray, but our prayer is not complete, not incomplete in rukuذ or sujud or qiyaam, but it is not perfect, it is not 100% clean because there are too much whispers in our mind when we pray or do something of good `amal, so Allah made the angels to clean that good `amal before it comes to Him. But in Rajab the angels (do not carry). Allah (swt), with the tajalli, with the manifestations that He is sending on the ummah and the Muslims and the ummah that are observing Islam, their `amal will come pure--whatever they pray or they do, it’s completely perfect even if it has been blended with gossips in the mind or bad inspirations, or thinking here, thinking there--all this, when that `amal comes in Rajab it will go without purification by angels as it is purified on the way to where Allah wants it to be.
That’s why Rajab is a special month, that the `amal of the ummah are completely clean and that’s why Allah put Laylatu ’l-Mi`raaj in Rajab because Prophet (s) went, and not only “went” but he is still going in Mi`raaj as Mi`raaj never stops, Ascension continues, because no one can reach the Divine Essence; you can reach the Divine Presence, but that Presence is always of different levels, so Ascension is still going on and going on, it never stops. So in that Ascension, Prophet (s) didn’t go by himself, he took his ummah with him.
That is the greatness of Prophet. If someone asks about the greatness of Prophet (s), he went and he is still going and he took his ummah to Qaaba Qawsayni aw adnaa, whether we know or we don’t know, as it is a reality that Prophet (s) will not leave his ummah behind and go by himself! When he was born he was saying, “My ummah! Ummatee, ummatee!” and in his life he called, saying, “My ummah, yaa Rabbee!”, in his leaving dunya he said, “My ummah!”, in the grave, in the holy grave of Prophet (s) he says, which is not a grave, rather it is a Paradise, he says, “My ummah!”, in the Day of Barzakh, in the Day of Resurrection, he says, “My ummah!” So is he going to leave his ummah behind? No! He is taking the ummah with him.
