Praise of Prophet (s) Will Plug You to Heavens

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

18 January 2013 Leyton, UK

`Isha Suhbah at Waltham Forest Islamic Center

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Alhamdulillah rabbi’l-`alameen was-salaatu wa’s-salaam `alaa sayyidi ’l-kaamileen Sayyidina wa nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ashaabika ajma`een.

(du`a.. )

Fa yaa sayyidee yaa rasoolullah, yaa habeebAllah min hadha ‘l-makaam, min hadha ‘l-masjid, natawassalu bika ilaa rabbinaa, yaa rabbee bi habeebinaa ‘l-mustafa, an-tanzur `alayna nazhratun, tahdiyanaa ila al-imaani ‘l-haqeeqi wa ‘l-islaami ’l-haqeeqi wa mahabbata ’n-nabiyy (s) wa mahabbata 's-sahaabah, yaa rabbee arzuqnaa min mahabbatak lahum, wa ashriknaa fi mahabbatika li-nabbiyika, wa ashriknaa fee mahabbati ’n-nabiyya laka yaa Allah, innaka `alaa kulli shayyin qadeer wa bi ’l-ijaabati jadeer.

I look and I don’t know where to begin. It is very difficult to speak on such occasions where the name of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is there. If you are in a public speech speaking about politics, speaking about spirituality, psychology, physics, it’s easy; you can blend things together and mix things together, and you can bring something from the east and mix it with the west, or something from the south and mix it with the north, it's no problem. You speak politics, you lie. Politicians around the world, one day they are nothing and with a big lie they become important. One person came to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah (swt) give him long life, and long life to every shaykh, especially awliyaullah because they are the stars for people.

He said, "O my shaykh! I would like to go into politics." He was from a very famous family, all of them were politicians.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, “Yes, why not?”

He said, “Do you agree to that?”

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, “Yes, of course.”

He asked, “What do I have to do?”

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, “You must not lie!”

He said, “O my shaykh! Politics is about lying. How am I not going to lie? I have to lie!”

`an `abdillah ibn jarraad annahu sa’al an-Nabi (s) faqaala yaa Nabiyyullah hal yazniyy al-mu’min? Qaala: qad yakoonu min dhaalik. yaa Rasoolullah, hal yasriq al-mu’min? Qaala: qad yakoonu min dhaalik. Qaala: yaa Nabiyyullah! Hal al-mu’min yakdhib? Qaala laa.

They asked the Prophet (s), "Does a Muslim make adultery, zina? He (s) said, "Might be." They said, “Does a believer steal?” He said, "Might be.” They asked, “Does a believer lie?” He said, "This one, no way!

You cannot lie to Allah (swt), may Allah forgive us. How you are going to lie to Prophet (s), to praise Prophet (s) on one side and to lie on the other side? So that is why when people do qaseedah, all of us including me; I am not saying that I am out of it, but everyone when you are doing something it has to be pure. You go to a president and you dress very nicely in order to get an interview with him and you are happy they have cameras and everything there, and people say, “O! He met with the president.”

However, everytime we say, “Muhammad (s),” he is present! "Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah!" he is present. How then do we have to be in his presence, the way we have to be? If we care, calling on him, he won't answer? It's impossible (that he won’t answer)!

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ

Wa maa arsalnaaka illa rahmatan li 'l-`alameen.

(O Muhammad!) We have sent you not except as a Mercy for all the Worlds. (Surat al-Anbiya, 21:107)

So it means, "If anyone speaks or asks your name, yaa Muhammad, you be present for them, don’t let them down.” So how we say, “Yaa Muhammad! Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad,” and we are not clean? It is not clean in the meaning of having ablution or wudu, but to be clean from many things that we do during the day, sins; that is the most important matter. Why do people or someone says, “My shaykh sees Prophet (s) in a dream.” Yes, he can see him in a dream. Another says, “I see Prophet (s) in reality.” Do awliya see Prophet (s) in real life? Yes, it depends on their levels. For some of them, you know sometimes you watch TV and there is a fuzzy picture, there is something but you cannot see the image, it's fuzzy; there are dots everywhere, but between these dots you can see some movement. If you have a better quality receiver, you see a better picture. If you have a higher quality receiver, digital, not analog, you see a nice picture! High definition, you will see a clear picture.

Don’t awliyaullah have that? If not, then why are they awliya or why to follow shuyookh if they do not have the power to see? This is what is important! Give me this microphone. (Mawlana takes a second mic and removes the power cord.) As I said yesterday, if you speak here you will never hear anything. I can speak day and night without this (with power cord detached) and there is no sound; I am speaking to myself, and this is like `ulama of books. Sorry if there is any `alim here! `Ulama of books, as Ibn `Ajeeba (q) said, there is `Ilm al-Awraaq and `Ilm al-Adhwaaq, Knowledge of Paper and Knowledge of Taste. Knowledge of Paper is like you speak with a microphone and you have some papers in front of you and some footnotes and you speak, and you only reach yourself, you cannot reach the hearts. But awliyaullah cannot talk if they are not plugged. Where are they plugged? In the plug of Prophet (s)! If you have not plugged from your shaykh, he plugs you in from him to Prophet (s), you are not able to reach everywhere. That is the difference between a scholar and a wali. A wali, his teaching reach everywhere: it reaches the heart, whereas a scholar’s teachings reaches the tongue and outside the tongue it is finished, you will forget it, but awliyaullah work on the hearts.

So plug your plug! To plug it is by salawaat on Prophet (s) as it plugs you into Heaven. Do you want Allah (swt) to be happy with you? Make salawaat. If you don't make salawaat, your plug is not working and then day and night, don't expect anything. These qasaa`id--Urdu qaseedah or Arabic qaseedah or English or any language qaseedah--the authors, for example Imam Muhammad al-Busayri (q) who wrote al-Burdah ash-Sharifah, these qasaa`id do not come from Muhammad al-Busayri, it is coming from the `ishq and the vision that he was seeing the reality of Prophet (s). From the birth until the end he was able to see and put it in a book al-Burdah ash-Sharifah, expressing what he was getting opened directly from the Prophet’s heart to his heart and coming out as a qasaa`id. Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad hattaa yardaa Sayyidina Muhammad (s)!

I was thinking about the hadith of the Prophet (s), are there awliyaullah? Of course there are awliya. Where are they? It’s a simple question: where are awliyaullah? A wali is the one that can see Prophet (s) and if you don't see Prophet (s), you are not yet in the level of awliya; you might have this title but you didn't pass your PhD in the realm of awliya, for the understanding of the young ones here. There are materials that they have to follow, there are experiences that they have to pass through in order to get to that level of wilayah and when they do they are speaking from the heart of the Prophet (s).

Are there awliya that can see? Yes there are. People might come and question us, not from this masjid but in other masaajid, without mentioning their names. They say, “What is ‘awliya’? All of us are awliya, every mu’min is a wali.” Yes, every mu’min is a wali; if he is mu’min he is a wali, and if he is not yet a wali then he is just a Muslim, he didn’t yet reach the level of wilayah, sainthood, to see Prophet (s).

When we say these qasaa’id or these salawaat are being put, they say, “No way! What ‘awliya’?” They make salawaat on the Prophet that you cannot imagine the meaning or the way they put it. I said to myself simply to compile these salawaat for people to get benefit. Can a person get from the Prophet (s), where Prophet (s) dictates to him and he writes? Yes, of course, and the evidence is so simple: who was the best sahih from the sihah; from the eight Sahih hadith transmitters, which one is the highest? Al-Bukhari (r). Why? Is al-Bukhari different from the Sahaabah (r)? Of course. Who is higher, the Sahaabah or Imam Bukhari? The Sahaabah (r) are the highest, but Imam Bukhari (q) is not a Sahaabi, he is an `alim, but he compiled ahadeeth of Prophet (s) in a very exact way. When he heard of a hadith, even if it would be a three months’ journey, he would take his horse and travel for three months or walk to hear from the person who heard and related it, that goes back to the Prophet (s) and he wrote it. At night, he took a shower and prayed two raka`ats and slept making istikhaara, “Yaa Rasoolullah! Authenticate for me this hadith,” and he saw Prophet (s) in a dream, about which the Prophet (s) said:

من رائني في المنام فقد راءني حقا

Man ra'aanee fi 'l-manaami faqad ra’aanee haqqan.

Who saw me in the dream saw me in reality. (Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

So he saw Prophet (s) in a dream and so he saw him in reality! He said, “Yaa Rasoolullah! I have this hadith, is it correct?” Either Prophet (s) said it is correct or not correct. “Which chapter do I have to put it under?” And Prophet (s) told him to put it in this chapter or that chapter.

Is Imam Bukhari a Sahaabi? Is he an imaam with the four a’imma? No, he was a pious mu’min, a wali to whom the Prophet (s) talked directly and recommended to him where he had to put the hadith. Many awliya, like Muhammad al-Busayri (q) when he used to write al-Burdah ash-Sharifah, he didn’t write it all in one time. He used to sit by the Nile, putting his feet in it and closing his eyes, dreaming and seeing Prophet (s) dictating for him what to write in the poetry of Qaseedah al-Burdah, “Yaa rabbee bi ‘l-mustafa balligh maqaasidanaa wagfirlanaa maa madaa yaa wasi`a ‘l-kaarami!” and on and on. And the Nile was boiling from the `ishq, the love of Muhammad al-Busayri to Prophet (s). Those words that were coming to his heart from Prophet (s) was making him so hot that where he was sitting, the piece of the Nile in that area was boiling!

That is one wali! What you think of 124,000 awliya that have to be on Earth at every moment? If one dies another replaces him. (Mawlana reads salawaat from a book.)

Salawaat adh-Dhaatiyyah, Prayer of His Essence

Who can write that? If you know Arabic, you will be amazed. We translated it in English and also included the transliteration. For an Arab person, it is impossible for any author to write like that without getting from Prophet (s). Listen to this, Jawharat al-Kamaal:

Words connected in such a way that you cannot imagine in the Arabic language! Not one single person can write this, `alim or not, unless he is a wali! (Mawlana reads the translation.)

O Allah! Exalt and salute the Source of Divine Mercy, the True Ruby which Encompasses the Center of Comprehension and Meanings, the Light of the World, which is in fact the Son of Adam, the Possessor of Divine Truth, the Most-Luminous Lightning in the profitable rain clouds which fill all the intervening seas as receptacles, and the Bright Light with which You filled the universe and which surrounds the places of existence!

O Allah! Bless and salute the Source of Truth from which manifestations of realities are manifest, the Source of Knowledge, the Most-Upright, the Complete and Most-Straight Path! O Allah! Bless and salute the Advent of the Truth by the Truth, the Greatest Treasure, Your Overflowing that is coming from Itself to Itself, and the Circle of Mysterious Light! May Allah bless the Prophet (s) and his Household, a prayer that brings us to knowledge of him!

No one can write what the awliyaullah wrote, not in Arabic or in Urdu, nor in any language and there are many of them everywhere. So we go back to where we began.

O Muslims! We cannot come and express our love to Prophet (s) with a normal speech. Check your love of Prophet (s) against your love for your child: if you have love for Prophet (s) like you have love for your child, you will see Prophet (s)! If your child is sick, you don’t sleep at night, correct? You will stay awake all night looking after your child, giving medicine in order that he will become strong and stand up, and return to normal. It means we need medicine in order that we will be able to inject it in our bodies to be able to stand up, and this medicine that we need is the different behaviors towards Prophet (s)!

Prophet (s) does not like the people who lie. First of all, we must stop lying; if we stop lying, that is a good beginning, because then our prayer will be okay, our fasting will be okay, our sadaqa will be okay, our zakaat will be okay, our life will be okay. Then, we need to increase our love for Prophet (s). What is the opposite word for “love”? Hate. You have to hate your ego, you have to hate your bad desires, because then you cancel the negative and move towards the positive. When you cancel the bad the good appears in you, the Light appears in you, because you are cancelling what is bad and getting what is good.

O Muslims! The Prophet (s) is seeing what we are doing. Don't be ghaafil, heedless of what is going on around us. Everyone knows. Do you get angry, yes or no? (Yes.) Anger is the trunk of all bad behavior. Anger is to be like a drunk person, (because when you are angry) you cannot think. Why do husbands and wives fight, and there is too much of that everyday.

They come to you and say, “Oh! Oh!”

“What happened?”

“We are fighting.”

“What happened?”

“We have black magic, solve it.”

“Ay! There is no black magic on you.”

(...video cut... Account of a 95 year old man in California who took shahadah from Mawlana Shaykh Hisham.)

What do you want more, to do Hajj? At least say the Shahaadah, and he was ninety-five years of age, coming every week and saying, “I want to pray like you pray.” Okay, pray. They prayed `Isha behind us and he left. After a week, he didn’t come and another week he didn’t come and the third week I sent someone to check on him, and they said he died. So what you think will happen to him, does he go to Heaven or to Hellfire? Heaven! Which is better, the convert or us? He has less sins because, mashaa-Allah, as Shaykh Ahmad is sixty-five, he became Muslim twenty-five years ago, so forty years from his age is gone. And Suleiman, how old are you? (Forty-four.) So how many years now? (Fifteen.) So thirty-five years of his age are gone, he is free.

O Muslims! Converts! Come take Shahaadah. We have to say, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah.” The Shahaadah in jama`ah multiplies like an atomic reaction or like a nuclear reaction, it is very quick and all different atoms multiply. How many are here? Everyone will get on that number. How many Shahaadah did we recite just now? Two. Let's say there are five-hundred people here and multiply it by two, so it will be as if everyone did one-thousand Shahaadah! That is fadeelatu ‘l-jama`ah, the reward of the jama`ah, and every hasanaat is multiplied by ten, so now it is ten-thousand Shahaadah! When we do it in jama`ah, and we are witness on each other and we convert it back from where Iblees took us outside with sins, we came back to our Islam inside here! Don’t think we are not converts, leaving them alone to go to Paradise: we go with them, so say the Shahaadah!

That's why we say the Shahaadah in salaat, which contains all the Five Pillars: the Shahaadah, zakaat, Hajj and siyaam. First you do Shahaadah, then you make salaat; then siyaam, because you are not talking to anyone else, you are talking to Allah (swt). Which is better, talking to yourself or talking to Allah (swt)? We say, “Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem,” and He says, “Yaa `abdee! What do you want? I will give you.” As soon as you begin by saying, “Allahu Akbar,” you are there. If you see it or you don’t, it’s not your responsibility. Allah might show you or might not show you so leave it to Allah (swt), but you get it. So in siyaam you are not talking with anyone; in zakaat, you are giving from your time in which you can make money, you are running to the masjid to pray; and in Hajj you are directing your face to qiblah.

I am positive that as soon as everyone says, “Allahu Akbar!” close your eyes before the salaat and look at the Ka`bah in front of you, and everyone can see Ka`bah, you can imagine it. So the Five Pillars of Islam are where? In salaat: you are entering Islam with Five Pillars in salaat and in the Holy Qur’an, Allah (swt) says salaat is the most important, is it not? Maa bayna kufri wa ‘l-imaan tarku ‘s-salaah, between kufr, to be kaafir or mu’min, if you leave salaat, you are kaafir. The importance is salaat. Where did Allah (swt) mention salaat?

Inna-Llaaha wa malaa'ikatahu yusalloona `ala 'n-nabiyy, yaa ayyuha ’Lladheena aamanoo salloo `alayhi wa sallimoo tasleema.

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him.

(Surat al-'Ahzaab, 33:56)

Yusalloon to `aalameen, yusalloona `ala ‘n-nabiyy. “Yusalloon,” to send a special salawaat. You can not fabricate a salawaat. Everything in Heaven is systematic; therefore, you cannot move one atom. It’s not like dunya. It means every single word that comes from your mouth has to be regulated, balanced, not a digital or electronic balance, but it has to have a heavenly digital balance, it is a very rigid balance, so you cannot say anything that is not on the Right Way.

When Allah says, “O My angels! Make salawaat on Muhammad (s),” it must be balanced! So what kind of salawaat do they recite? How do the angels make salawaat? We don't know. What we know is “Yaa ayyuha ’Lladheena aamanoo salloo `alayh,” and they asked the Prophet, “How to make salawaat on you, this way or that way?” This is how Prophet (s) made it easy, but for awliyaullah it is different, it is difficult; their salawaat is so complicated, so condensed of materials, so condensed of Light that we cannot (compare). And we have this book available outside, The Salawaat of Trememdous Blessing, so you can read it.

Salawaat on Prophet (s) is more important, as Allah (swt) said, Inna-Llaaha wa malaa'ikatahu yusalloona `ala 'n-nabiyy, “O My Angels! Make salawaat on Prophet.” Why Allah (swt) asked angels to make salawaat? He knows best, but we say it is because Allah loves Prophet (s); He created him first and put him there and loved him. Is Allah (swt)’s Love to him like that? It’s like you have a child and you put him there and say, “I love him, I love him, I love him.” Allah (swt) doesn't have a child, Allah is the Creator! That is why the hadith of the Prophet (s):

رواه عبد الرزاق بسنده عن جابر بن عبد الله بلفظ قال قلت: يا رسول الله، بأبي أنت وأمي، أخبرني عن أول شيء خلقه الله قبل الأشياء. قال: يا جابر، إن الله تعالى خلق قبل الأشياء نور نبيك من نوره،...

`An Jaabir ibn `AbdAllah qaala: qultu yaa Rasoolullah, bi-abee anta wa ummee, akhbirnee `an awwala shayin khalaqahu ’Llaaha qabla’l-ashyaa? Qaala: yaa Jaabir, inn Allaha ta`ala khalaqa qabla al-ashyaa noora nabiyyika min noorih...

When Jaabir (r) asked, “Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Prophet of Allah! What is the first thing that Allah (swt) created?” the Prophet (s) said, “The first thing that Allah (swt) created is the Light of your Prophet from His Light, O Jaabir.” (Musannaf `Abdu ’r-Razzaq)

What Allah (swt) created first was the Light of Muhammad (s) from His Light, so there is a connection: the Light of Prophet (s) is coming from nooru ’s-samawaati wa’l-ard, from the Light of Heavens and Earth, which means from the Light of Allah!

________________

اللَّهُ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

Allahu nooru’s-samawaati wa’l-ard.

Allah is the Light of the Heavens and the Earth. (Surat an-Noor, 24:35)

From that Light, from the Beautiful Name an-Noor, Allah (swt) created the Light of Prophet (s). From the Names “al-`Alim,” “al-Jaami`,’ “al-Jamaal,” and all these beautiful things that Allah (swt) expressed and described by Himself to Himself, He dressed Sayyidina Muhammad (s) as His Servant. With these Beautiful Names he was shining and Allah (swt) was happy with the Light from which He created Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and immediately He said to the angels, “Make sajda (of respect) to that Light!” when there was nothing else.

The first light was this Light (s), and from that Light Allah created the angels and they make salawaat on Prophet (s). We can keep on talking about this subject, but people get tired and we have to stop somewhere. So what we can say is that the angels are doing salawaat and it is an order. How many angels? Uncountable. Okay, we understand the past, but Kalaamullah is not only past, it is present and future, so it means the angels in the past, the angels in the present and the angels that will be created in the future, as Allah is creating in every moment. It means every angel is under order from his first created moment, and they are ever-lasting so they are still doing salawaat on Prophet (s)! And this salawaat is done with real love! Allah (swt) made it easy for us when He said, “Salloo `alayhi!”

من صلى علي مرة صلى الله عليه بها عشرا

Man salla `alayya marrah, salla ’Laahu `alayhi bihaa `ashara.

Whoever prays on me one time, Allah prays on him ten times. (Sahih)

Do one, two if you like, one thousand, ten thousand, twenty-four thousand, but it will only be one way, one seegha: “Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi Sayyidina Muhammad. Allahumma salli `alaa wa sahbihi wa sallim. Allahumma salli `alaa noori ‘l haqqi ‘l-mubeen.”

There are different ways of salawaat, but angels are not like us; every angel makes salawaat from the moment he was created. If he is created now, and there is not only one angel to be created in every moment, but an infinite number of angels will be created because Allah is al-Khaaliq; if you limit, you cannot. Every angel from one salawaat to the second salawaat is different, it is not the same. It cannot be the same as it' is according to Allah's Greatness, it is not a photocopy machine. One salawaat in this moment, a second salawaat in the second moment and a third salawaat in the third moment, and every angel’s salawaat on Sayyidina Muhammad (s) will be different from the other angels. It means, laa tumanninu rabbakum bi-annakum salaatun `ala ‘n-nabiyy, “Don’t claim that you did favors for Allah by making salawaat on Prophet (s)!” Your salawaat are in limits and angels’ salawaat have no limits. Allah is creating and creating and creating and will continue to create angels in every moment, and they are making salawaat and they are not asking for any favors! Angels are infallible and have no sins, but for us Allah (swt) said, “O! Don’t claim you are doing something. I tell you to do one time it’s okay, and five times I am making you to do salawaat in the five prayers!” What Allah (swt) is asking is five times and if you pray sunnah you get more.

May Allah (swt) forgive us and guide us and support us, because this dunya is going, leaving and Akhirah is coming. I mentioned today in the prayers for jumu`ah that Allah will judge on the Day of Judgment three different groups of men: shaheed, martyrs; `ulama, scholars; and the last is kareem, the wealthy men who are generous. These are the first three to be asked and I am not going to repeat the explanation, but it's a scary hadith and it has a way out because Allah (swt) will forgive Ummat an-Nabi (s) with the shafa`ah of Prophet (s). He says to the shaheed, “You are a liar! Send him to Hellfire.” He says to the `alim, “You are a liar! Send him to Hellfire.” He says to the one who helps masaajid and the poor and needy, “You are a liar, go to Hellfire!” But they will be interceded by Prophet (s).

There is a meaning there: don’t claim that you are doing it for Allah; any of these three groups, don’t claim that you are doing it for Allah because you are doing it for yourself. For the shaheed, to be put on banners everywhere, “This one died in the way of Allah,” but he did suicide bombing, he killed many innocent people and they put this on the news around the world. In previous times and in this time, shaheed must be only for Allah, like the Sahaabah (r). And secondly, the `alim says, “I studied knowledge for You, yaa Rabbee! I am teaching for You.”

“No! No! You are teaching people so they say, ‘You are `alim,’ you didn’t do it for Me. Go to Hellfire!” He did it for his ego.

And the wealthy man? He says, “Yaa Rabbee! I did it for You.”

“What did you do?”

“I gave to everyone.”

“No, you did it for yourself, you gave it for people to say, ‘You are a wealthy man.’ When they want to put you on a table they give you a good chair.”

Check the chair on which you are going to sit because if you sit on a humble chair in dunya, Allah will give you a good chair in Akhirah. If you sit on a good chair in dunya, Allah will still give you a good chair in Akhirah. It means, “Don’t be proud of yourself. You do it for Me, not for people. You don’t do it for people to say you did something.”

Don't ask favors for what you are doing, do it fee sabeelillah, finished, for the love of Allah (swt) and love of Prophet (s)! May Allah forgive us. May Allah bless us.

Bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

I would like to thank you because every time I pass here on this road, I never asked, but I used to think that this mosque must be a masjid of the other group because it was fancy and big like that, and our people can do something like this in London. Alhamdulillah, it is an Ahlu ’s-Sunnah wa ’l-Jama`ah mosque. May Allah give you hundreds like that and give every Muslim, inshaa-Allah.
