People of Tariqah Are Flying to the Divine Presence

Shaykh Nour Mohamad Kabbani

Thursday, Feb 29, 2024, Fenton, Michigan USA,

May Allah keep us at the door of Awliyaullah. May Allah keep us at the feet of Anbiyaullah for ourselves for our children and for our ancestors inshallah. May Allah bless the soul of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani (q) and raise him higher and higher.

This book is from the collection of Mawlana Shaykh Hisham (q). I haven't opened it for awhile but today I thought I can open this book and read from it a little bit. And of course Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) always has ‘bombardments’. Mawlana Shaykh Nazam (q) was always opposing the badness of the egos. First, he used to say, “I am against my own ego that calls for evil, that calls for bad actions, bad things, bad speech. Also I am against the bad egos that we have.” He was teaching us how to get the bad ego under control.

So, I opened the book today and he was talking about the different Turuq, Sufi Paths. That is the path of the people first of which is the Shari`a of course. Tariqah is not outside of Shari`a. Tariqa is the `Azheema of Shari`a, the highest standards of Shari`a. It's applying all what Allah has ordered. Applying what Rasulullah has ordered and done, but to the most, to the utmost. That is Tariqah. It is the `Azheema, which means the zeal and the determination of Shari`a.

So, Mawlana said, “That readiness to be on the way of Allah is present in most people.”

That readiness to turn away from what is leaving us and turning towards what is going to be with us for eternity is ready. It is in the hearts of people. All they need is ihtiqaaq, contact. He says he they need a little match to light up that fire in their heart and that's why Awliyaullah and Anbiyaullah go around. Because when they are around people the heart of some people gets lit by the Nour, light that is in the hearts of Awliyaullah, the ones who only have Allah (swt) in their hearts.

Why do you get attracted to them? Because they have something special. That special thing is not earthly. It's Divinely, it's spiritual and it’s angelic. So, the hearts and souls go towards it. As we have experienced with our masters as others have experienced with Awliyaullah, when you come in contact with them in closeness with them, you want to be like them. Why do you think we put this vest? Because we have become something? No. Why do you wear the vest, the Turkish vest? You're not Turkish. Why do you wear it? Because your Sheikh has worn it. So, you want to be them.

When you come in close contact with them, the light that they have in their heart attracts your heart and your soul. So, you start coming to them so that fire can light up.

And he said, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani is saying that the people of Tariqah wherever they are, they are our brothers. Any Tariqah, whatever it is, what is the Algerian one? Buchichiya? All the people of Tariqas are approaching, as much as they do Dhikrullah they are approaching the Divine Presence.

If you go to Owen Road, you see a sign where they are seeking donations up to a certain target. Did you ever see it? So the more they announce it, the more they talk about it, the more people give. So, the more you do, the more the people of Dhikr, when they sit together and make mention of Allah’s (swt) Holy Names they are approaching Him, until you reach that goal Until you become fully red; fully lit up and on fire.

So, Turuq are like that. So, they have haraka, movement. The others move but very slowly. As Mawlana Shaykh Nazim is saying, “Some cars cannot go on the highway.” Some vehicles cannot go on the highways like mopeds or farm vehicles, whatever it is. Race cars are on the highways. So, the people of Turuq are moving fast. The others are moving through the back roads or through the little roads, slowly. But they are moving towards their target. But Turuq are much faster. So that's why we are in Tariqa.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim is saying the people of Tariqa, munshi`oon al-majaalis, they are setting up associations. So they can get people into their way. May Allah make humanity to taste what the real Turuq are about. The real Turuq are about saying la ilaha ill ‘Llah. That is the best Dhikrullah, afdal adh-dhikr.

Allah (swt) has said in Holy Qur’an fa`alam annahu la ilaha ill ‘Llah, as if there is no need to know anything else, know la ilaha ill ‘Llah and if you know la ilaha ill ‘Llah you know everything. If you reach la ilaha ill ‘Llah it means nafiyy, expelling, exiling.

Exiling. Means you are getting rid of it. When you say ‘no other god’ it means no other deity visible or invisible. You are getting rid of everything other than Allah (swt). You are getting rid of anything that claims to be master upon you, internally and externally. When you say “no one to order me and no one to give me life and no one to take life from me and no one to give me sustenance and no one to take away my sustenance” then you are not believing in any one, any entity that has power. When you say that you are rejecting and illaAllah is affirming Allah (swt) as the only One to do these, that is ithbaat. Ithbaat means affirming, and confirming. That is the way of tariqa to say as Allah told Rasulullah (s) in Surah Muhammad:

فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ

fa`alam annahu la ilaha ill ‘Llah.

Know, [O Muhammad], that there is no deity except Allah (Surah Muhammad 47:19)

In Surah Muhammad it says, “know for certain, surely la ilaha ill ‘Llah.” That is the overarching reality. Everything is under it. What is missing if you know Allah? Nothing is missing.

So that is they do. In all Turuq that Dhikr they make. So Mawlana is saying that nowadays Turuq are setting up associations to bring people to say la ilaha ill ‘Llah and that is the goal. That is the true and most perfect `ilm, true knowledge: to know that there is no deity but Allah.

Who is in existence? Do you sometimes think to yourself, “O insan, oh, human! I am going away. Am I going to come back again?” It is one chance in this life. Can you bring yourself back again? Did you bring yourself here? It wasn't in your hands.

Suwari, in externality it was your parents that brought you here. Allah (swt) created you in the womb of your mother and sent the soul into that womb. So, it was not you who made yourself nor put yourself in this world.

You have a chance. What is your chance? What are you supposed to do in this world, O insan? Run after elections? Ok, run after elections and then if you die the next day, you're gone. You cannot bring yourself back. Isn't that a big loss? Nobody thinks about it. How can you bring yourself back to reach perfection? Allah (swt) has taken you out of non-existence. And He (swt) made you appear by Bismillah, by His Holy Name. You have appeared. He is saying, “You have to praise Me and thank Me because with My Mercy you are going to reach a place that you will see Me.” That is the meaning of al-Fatiha.

You read Surat al-Fatiha, but what is it? It is Nuskhat al-Akwaan, the perfect example of how these worlds are working. Allah is taking you from non-existence and by His Holy Name, you are appearing. He is telling you, “Turn towards Me and praise Me and I will take care of you with My mercy here and Hereafter. I will give you the general mercy, from the Holy Name al-Rahman and the special Mercy from the Name ar-Rahim so you can appear in front of Me and you can address Me. You are saying show me the way to go to his Bahru ’l-Wahdaniyya, the Divine Ocean of Oneness and Unity. There you will stay forever. You have gone from non-existence to eternal existence. That's how it starts. May Allah forgive us and allow us to understand Dhikrullah and Fatiha ash-Sharifa.

So Mawlana Shaykh Nazim is saying in the in the Turuq, Sufi ways and in the Naqshbandi ways, there are several مأذونين ma’dhooneen, those given permission, ijaza for tabarruk, transmission of blessings. That permission is not to reach to take you up to perfection. But most of the people that are assigned as khalifa nowadays in many Turuq are authorized shaykhs who have permission. They have authority but not for discipline, tarbiyya.

You have to reach the perfect saint, Sultan al-Awliya to take you to perfection. That means that most of the authorized ones in different Sufi paths are not perfect saints who can raise you up, but they are there to get the blessings of that Sufi path.

As an example, sometimes they bring you something from here or from there like the other day they brought me something from Baghdad ash-Sharif. So you may go to Aleppo or Homs or Daghestan and find many who have permission but not for tarbiyya, discipline to take you up the road they have gone.

One day they brought me a bead from Baghdad, for what? What does it mean? You get the blessings from it. So, when you are coming to this and they are telling you that we are connected through a chain through this one and that one and that one until you reach the Pir of the tariqa, you get the blessings of that Pir and that path. That is the situation of most of the tariqas nowadays, they are for tabarruk. The Shaykh to get you to the level of Awliyaullah is no longer present. The Shaykh at-tabarruk is present, the one that is ma’dhoon, who is given authority of blessings can also give permission to others for a few things. That is where it stops.

Most of the shuyookh today are for tabarruk. May Allah gather us with the correct one. How do you know the correct one? Shaykh Abdus-Salam bin Mashish (q) was a big saint who is buried in Satta, Morocco. He was the shaykh of Sayyidina Abul-Hasan ash-Shadili (q). Because Shaykh Abul-Hasan ash-Shadili (q) was a perfect shaykh it means his shaykh must be perfect.

So a mureed came to Shaykh Abdus-Salam bin Mashish (q) and said, “Give me a wazeefa.”

Today everyone comes and says, “give me a wazeefa.” So Shaykh Abdus-Salam bin Mashish (q) said, a-rasoolan anaa? “Am I a messenger? The best thing you can do is the faraa’id, they are well known, and ma`siyya, sins are well known. Kun li’l-fareeda hafizhan, be keeper of the obligations, wa kun lil-ma`siyya rafidan and be to the sins a rejector.”

Look at that Shaykh. You don’t need anything else: keep the fareeda and leave the forbiddens. But there is one more thing: you must guard your heart from the dunya.

So the advice of every perfect Shaykh is “keep your obligations, leave the forbiddens and protect your heart from dunya and it's love and be content with what comes to you from dunya.

He was continuing that advice, “If goodness comes to you from dunya, be thankful and use it in thanking Allah. If difficulty comes to you from dunya, be patient on it.”

Whatever comes from this dunya from goodness, use in whatever Allah likes. And for whatever comes, be thankful and use it in thanking Allah (swt). Whatever comes that is difficult, be patient on it. So your way is between thanking and patience.

So, how do you get dunya out of your heart? It is said and and I heard this from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim so many times

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: جددوا إيمانكم، قيل يا رسول الله: وكيف نجدد إيماننا؟ قال: أكثروا من قول لا إله إلا الله.

jaddidoo imaanikum bi la ilaha ill ‘Llah.

The Prophet (s) said, “Renew your faith by saying la ilaha ill ‘Llah.” (Imam Ahmad)

Because I heard from Mawlana you have to renew your iman by saying this because Rasoolullah (s) has said that Iman withers. Iman, faith weakens. It weakens, it weakens, it weakens until you have no love of Allah in your heart; you have no love of the Prophet (s) in your heart and you have no love of saints in your heart. So Rasulullah (s) said you have to replenish iman and strengthen it with saying la ilaha ill ‘Llah because the more you say la ilaha ill ‘Llah the less you say ‘dunya’ and the less you say ‘dollar’.

Is that not right Shaykh? Everyday you are looking at diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds. It's all over you in your heart. Gold, gold, gold. So, when you mention Allah (swt), that is the way to cleanse your heart from dunya. The more you do Dhikrullah the less remembrance of dunya is in your heart, the more remembrance of Allah is in your heart. The less remembrance of dunya in your heart. That is the way. The way is Dhikr. So Shaykh Ibn al-Mashish was telling his mureed, احفط قلبم من “Keep your heart from wanting dunya.” How? When you continue with la ilaha ill ‘Llah, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, with nafiyy wal-ithbaat.

بنفي ما سوى المعبود و اثبات ما هو المطلوب تصل إلى كمال الشهود

Nafiy maa siwaa al-Ma`bood. So, you expel other than the Worshipped One and ithbaat maa huwa mawjood, you confirm what is sought, which is Allah’s (swt) Existence, then as Awliya Allah have said, you will reach Kamaal ash-shuhood, “the perfection of viewing of your Lord.” Where? In your heart. You don't see Him. He's not a human. You cannot see Him. But within your heart, you can see His Nour, Light. Allah’s Light is within your heart and that paradise is in the heart waiting for us to enter.

So you see Allah's Beauty as he wants. That happens by being with the Sadiqeen, the Truthful Ones, the Awliyaullah. Therefore Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) would always repeat that verse:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ

O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true. (At-Tawba, 9:119)

“Be with the be with the Truthful ones” means “be with the saints.” Be with them physically and when you are sitting with them and accompanying them and by heart you are with them as well, connecting with them and that is Rabita. By connecting your hearts with their hearts spiritually you are with them and by being physically in their association you are with them. What happens? They will transfer that Nour that is in their heart. Because we started this sohba saying that Awliyaullah have Nour. You get attracted to them because of that Nour. When you are so close to them and you want to be like them what happens? Why do we wear this turban? Because we want to be like them. The more you become like them and the more you become a mirror image of them. That Nour at-Tawheed starts to transfer from their heart to your heart, the one who connects with them physically and the one who connects with them spiritually.

We have heard Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) say so many times, Min al-qalb ila al-qalbi sabeela, “from heart to heart there is a pathway.” That Nour will start entering your heart, the one that is connecting with them physically and to the one connecting with them spiritually, which means becoming a mirror image of them.

So, you have to find Shaykh at-Tarbiyya, the Shaykh of discipline and upbringing. Just as Shaykh Ibn al-Mashhish was the shaykh of Shaykh Abu’l-Hasan ash-Shadili and through his following him to perfection he was able to see visions of the beauty of Awliyaullah; of the beauty of Rasulullah (s) and of the beauty of Allah (swt).

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said one time and I always remember that, “If you go to Ka`aba and greet the Ka`aba and if you don't hear Ka`aba saying salaam back to you, you have not reached that level yet.”

Awliyaullah when they go to Kaba`ta ’l-Mu`azzhama, and say Assalamu `alaikum ya Baytullah, as-salamu `alaikum ya Kaba`ta ’l-Mu`azzhama, they have to hear Kaaba, giving salaam back.

وَإِذَا حُيِّيتُم بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّوا۟ بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَآ أَوْ رُدُّوهَآ

“ And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return it [in a like manner].” (Surat an-Nisa, 4:86)

“If you are given a greeting return a better one or equal to what you were greeted with.” Who is “you” here? Allah (swt) kept it general. You, how is ‘you’? Ka`bat al-mu`azhzhama cannot address you, but bricks and stones have life. When the Prophet (s) put the stones in his hand the Sahaba heard the tasbeeh of the stones, praising Allah (swt) So Kaaba is alive and it is making tasbeeh in its own way and it is surah of the Divine Presence in this earth. It makes tasbeeh and it has a life.

It is a picture, an image. It makes Dhikr because it has a life. If you are not hearing Ka`bat al-mu`azhzhama saying salaam back to you, you have not reached the level of Awliyaullah. so they have all these big people that go there. Masha Allah, big masters, big shuyookh, go to the Holy House, but can any one of them hear Ka`batullah replying to them? They cannot because it didn't happen. So they have not reached and we have not reached.

I always heard Mawlana Shaykh say that. He said you can go to Hajj 20 times and you go to Umrah fifty times. And every time you say if you do not hear Ka`bat al-mu`azhzhama giving salaam back to you don't go another time. There's no need. Allah knows best. But of course you have to do Hajj and you have to do `Umrah. This is a teaching for us because we are imperfect. We have to keep going there for Allah to forgive our sins.

But they go there to to chat. To talk. With Awliyaullah that at that time.

May Allah forgive us. May Allah always make us with true Awliyaullah and may He make us Keep your obligations. Get away from the sins and keep Dhikrullah in your heart, when you put in your heart, the remembrance of Allah (swt), everything else starts to go out. Slowly, slowly it goes out until you reach perfection. There is nothing in your heart except Allah (swt).

So Adam continues in your room. Yeah, I know you do. One time you will be able to see what we don't see. Inshallah all of us can be can reach that level that Allah is happy with us. That there is no when you reach the level of saints the two signs are that you do not you do not fear anything any more. You are not concerned and worried about anything anymore. And you are not sad or saddened and have sorrow about anything that passed. So for your future you have no concern, no worries. For the past you have no sadness and no grief. That is the the sign of Awliyaullah that is the sign of Awliyaullah:

أَلَآ إِنَّ أَوْلِيَآءَ ٱللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Alaa inna Awliyaullah laa khawfan `alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon.

Lo! verily the friends of Allah are (those) on whom fear (cometh) not, nor do they grieve. (Surah Yunus, 10:62)

If you want to know a true saint, that is the one that is not worried about the future. That is the sign. And he or she is not saddened about the past. If you still worry about the future and about your tomorrow, you are still on the way but you have not reached. If you still feel sad and grieved about what happened in the past, you're still not on that way. You still have a long way to go. Awliyaullah are not sad for what they missed and they are not afraid of what they do not have. They will have what they want. Allah will give them everything they want. So these are the signs. Inshallah He removes the worry about the future from our hearts and removes the sadness and grief from what happened in the past from our hearts. “There is no fear for them and they will never be saddened or grieved.” May Allah forgive us.

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq, bi-hurmatil-habeeb bi-hurmatil-fatiha
