A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani ‘r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`'een, nawaytu 'l-`'itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta'ala al-`Azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.

أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ

Atee`ullaha wa atee`u 'r-Rasoola wa uli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

From Allah's Generosity, al-Karam al-Ilahiyya, it is said that any verse of Holy Qur’an you read, all what Allah has put in that verse of manifestations and secrets in every letter of that verse, He will dress you with it, regardless if you are understanding or not, that is something else. We are saying, from Allah's Generosity, Al-Karam al-Ilaahiyya, when the servant reads a verse of Holy Qur'an, that verse is naatiqee, every verse is alive, every word of Holy Qur'an is alive, there is rooh in it. Since there is rooh in it, that manifestation of life that Allah has put in Holy Qur'an--because Holy Qur'an is Kalaamullah, which cannot be dead, it is always alive--so what Allah put in every word, every letter, every verse, every surah, there are secrets coming from Bahr al-Qudrah, the Ocean of Power from which universes appear, because universes appear from the Ocean of Qudrah, al-Qaadir, al-Muqtadir, He can bring whatever He wants. That verse is naatiqee, alive, it has life and Allah physically dressed that dress from Bahr al-Qudrah, the Ocean of Existence, for things to appear: for human beings to appear to come to dunya, for branches, trees, universes, skies, animals, everything appears from Bahr al-Qudrah through the Light of al-Khaaliq, the Creator. But Allah (swt) does not dress you with that, He adds on it to continuously give you from the secrets. When Allah dresses you with the secrets of the Dhaat al-Buht lillahi ta`ala, the Divine Presence, the Divine Essence, whatever comes of Realities appear to be dressed on human beings and to angels and to whom Allah wants to be dressed.

So this Light of Holy Qur’an--because every ayah, every word has two meanings: the literal, outer meaning and the hidden meanings--hidden meanings come from Bahr adh-Dhaat, the Ocean of the Divine Essence, and the literal meanings come from Bahr al-Qudrah, but the literal meanings also have meanings within them that can be interpreted. The same ayah and the literal meaning has secrets, it’s alive, and that ayah that can give interpretation to common people like us. But Awliyaullah understand also some of the appearances of the ayats that come in Bahr al-Qudrah and they understand some of the secrets that come from Bahr al-Dhaat.

That is why Allah (swt) made five different levels in human beings. The first level is what you are doing in dunya, what concerns you in dunya, which is Maqaam al-Qalb and that is the only thing we are doing, manifesting, the others are hidden. What is for dunya remains in dunya and those for Akhirah you will take with you, you don't leave it. Whatever you do in dunya you are going to leave in dunya. To Akhirah you can take only what is not dunya, but the rest, and what are these "rest"?

One of them, after the first level of dunya, is the second level: Maqaam as-Sirr, the Ocean of the Secret. So that is what we take. So when we say “atee`oollah”, that is what we take to Akhirah, to Paradise with us. In dunya, when we say “atee`oollah” what is the meaning? It is “obey Allah”. As soon as you say that word you enter into the secret of at-taa’i`oon, “those who obeyed”, whether you did it or not! That is the importance of reading Holy Qur'an: you make these oceans appear from every letter, from every verse, and you will be dressed with it!

So Allah (swt) will open for you to quench you thirst and dress you, like in sajda, He allows you to reach through that verse, once you say “atee`oollah”, it is as if you completed all 500 orders of worship and obedience with their secrets that come with them!

يا ربي اطعني اجعلك ربانيا

O My servant! Obey Me and I will make you Lordly.

Finished! “O My servant! Obey Me!” Yaa Rabbee, we are obeying You, but we are weak, heedless! You grant aja`luka rabbaaniyyan, “I make you Lordly.” So when He makes you Lordly, taqoolu li shay’in kun fa yakoon, “Say to anything “Be!” and it will be.” So when you are able to reach the second level of the heart, which is the Secret, the first level will never know what is in the second level, and you will not know until you come to the door of the second level by ‘itaa`a. When everyday you say, atee`ullaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum,100 times a day or 10 times a day, you are preparing yourself to open these secrets within you, it is not something outside you, it is still within the Six Powers: Haqiqat al-Jazbah, Haqiqat al-Fayd, Haqiqat at-Tawajjuh, Haqiqat at-Tawassul, Haqiqat al-Irshad, Haqiqat at-Tayy. We are still talking from within the Six Powers, we didn’t go up yet. You will be dressed with that, because when you keep making dhikrullah as Allah said to Prophet (s), “Say to them”:

أَنَا جَلِيْسُ مَنْ ذَكَرَنِي

I sit with him who remembers Me. (Hadith Qudsi. Ahmad, Bayhaqi)

“I am with the one who remembers Me.” When you remember Him, saying “Yaa Rabbee, I am obeying you, atee`oollaha, yaa Rabbee, ata`ana wa sami`ana wa ata`ana,” then aja`lka rabbaaniyyan, taqoolu li shay’in kun fa yakoon, “I will give you the Lordly Secrets that are in the second level,” not in the dunya level, dunya level doesn’t need to enter. So anyone whose heart is connected with dunya he will get that, he will get dunya things, as long as he prays and fasts and is doing his prayers, his obligations, he is getting it. But the level of Secret will get more, because as you are ascending. They give you a turbine, muharrik as Mawlana Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, said. Inna haadha ‘l-maqaam huwa al-muharrik ad-daa'im li ‘l-insaan. In this level, when you begin the second level from these levels, second, third, fourth, fifth, the muharrik--there is a heavenly engine that is continuously running human beings: bi maa khayrihi wa sharrihi min Allahi ta`ala, according to “everything is from Allah (swt)” and this is our Shahaadah and belief in Islam.

So that secret that Allah gave, and I give an example: that one time Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q)... look at the different levels, passing with his mureed, by the river of Dajla and Furat (Euphrates), and when they were on the cliff and a lake, big lake like an ocean is there, Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) pushed his mureed to fall into the river. As soon as he reached the river and was going down, and the mureed didn’t know how to swim, Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) extended his hand and raised him up to the cliff and he gave him the talqeen of what we know today, at-Tariqah al-Qadiriyya or al-Jilaniyya, he gave him the secrets because his mureed was in that level. He opened to him the Six Powers by moving his finger, Haqiqat al-Jazbah, the Power of Attraction, like Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q), moving his Shahadah finger [in a small circular motion] and he was passing, like a laser, the secrets that are from Maqaam as-Sirr, where you can do ajaa`ib, miracles. Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) and the mureed sat facing each other, touching their knees together, and Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) moved his finger, reciting the same as Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) did with his mureed (that is another story) and in this way he passed the Six Powers to his mureed.

I was witnessing one day how Awliya pass secrets to each other. I saw it with these two eyes. It was when Grandshaykh (q) was on his deathbed in the hospital and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Adil (q) flew from Cyprus to see him, and they closed the doors, but when they close one door Allah opens another door. I saw how he was passing to him and Shaykh Nazim (q) was shaking! I did not see what he passed, but I saw he was gripping Mawlana’s arm up to his elbow, and as soon as Grandshaykh (q) held his hand, and I was watching, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) was shaking for half-an-hour! I was worried and wanted to go inside, but I was also worried that Grandshaykh (q) would say, “Why did you come inside?” Mawlana was shaking, shaking, shaking; after half-an-hour it was as if nothing had happened: no more shaking, calm, tranquil and peaceful, and that noor was on his face, that he has been dressed with noorun `alaa noor, he has noor, more noor. That I saw one time.

Where were they to claim things? That one makes this tafseer and this one makes that tafseer, or this group or that group, and Awliya have their own world; they are not looking at the mureeds’ world, they are looking how to purify him. I heard from Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, “Awliyaullah have a very hard task, so don’t say, ‘I want to be Wali,’ as it is not easy!” They have to make sure their followers are purified in every 24 hours, and every day to present them to the Prophet (s), because he said, and no one can deny it:

تعرض علي أعمالكم

I observe the `amal of my Ummah. (al-Bazzaar in his Musnad)

So every Wali, Naqshbandi or not Naqshbandi, has to deliver their mureeds to the Prophet (s) and present them clean. So many times Mawlana (q) said, advising, “Put them,” as if speaking to someone, but he was speaking on his behalf to himself, “Put them,” but he edited it out because he wants to get these fountains of knowledge out, so he is speaking from himself to himself. “Get them an anesthesia, numb them.” They numb our hearts, because they want to do the operation, because if they do not hide what they are doing Shaytan can go in and disturb what they have done and the mureed will still be with dirty sins on him, so he numbs them, he gives his mureeds anesthesia according to their level. The doctor of anesthesia has too much difficulty to keep everything balanced. Awliyaullah want to keep everything balanced so they numb you, not allowing you to see what they put in your heart, and on Judgment Day you will appear with the light they have put in your heart

Awliyaullah are not children, speaking without putting inside! If the awliyaullah don't numb you then your mind will interfere in the spirituality that comes with the Six Powers. So awliyaullah are like that.

Grandshaykh (q) passed that secret to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) in half-an-hour and he was shaking.

Similarly Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) passed to his mureed by only moving his finger and Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) did the same. Grandshaykh (q) was touching the arm of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim was shaking.

So what do we want? We are not interested in backbiting. Our focus is how do we make Allah (swt) happy, how to make the Prophet (s) happy and Awliya happy, in order for them to pour into our hearts more of their Light, then the Prophet (s) will pour on you His Light and then when you have so much Heavenly Light, Allah (swt) will be happy with you and pour Manifestations of His Beautiful Names and Attributes!

So Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) raised his hands and saved the mureed from falling into the river and dying. Because of that, the mureed made tasleemiyya, not shouting, not saying anything, going peacefully in the water. SubhaanAllah, how these Awliyaullah work! When the mureed was falling, he said to himself, “Alhamdulillah, my shaykh is happy with me,” and then the hand came. As soon as Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) passed to him these secrets, one shaykh appeared from the Golden Chain where it meets with Sayyidina Ja`far as-Sadiq, and that is the joining of Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) and Sayyidina `Ali (r). He was a very strong, heavy shaykh. There was no Naqshbandi name at that time. He looked and as soon as Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) saw him, he was shaking from the haybah, from the majestic appearance of that person. It is not easy when Awliyaullah want to make a majestic appearance, you run away. So Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) knew there is something about that shaykh, who said, “Yaa `Abdul Qadir!” without saying, “yaa Ghawth”. Awliya know each other and how to address, either with or without titles.

So that shaykh said, “Why did you pass the secret to him?”

Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) said, “Yaa Sayyidee! Did I make a mistake?”

He said, “No, but tell me why you passed the secret?”

He said, “Because he was in complete tasleemiyya; he said ‘I am happy with my shaykh. I love my shaykh,’ when he was going down.”

That shaykh said, “From the higher level, we saw he still had objections, that he didn’t surrender completely, which will prevent from getting the secret, because he will lose it; he might lose these diamonds that you gave him because he did not yet reach the maqaam that you are giving him and he cannot carry it. Although he is a big Wali, but for us he did not yet reach the level we need so we can pass the secret.”

Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) said, “What is that, Sayyidee? I did not hear that.”

He said, “Yes, from our meezan, scale, an inspiration, a khaatir, a thought came to him when he was falling, he questioned, ‘Why my shaykh has pushed me into the river and he knows I don't know how to swim? I’m not complaining, because I love my shaykh, but I want to know why.’ “

That is not accepted in Tariqah; therefore, he cannot get his trust. See how very delicate it is to pass the secret, it is not very easy! That is only the second level, above dunya level. That is for 40 Tariqats and the 41st Tariqat is coming from Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) and Sayyidina `Ali (r); that is why it is called ‘Golden Chain’ because it has the Family of Ahl al-Bayt directly.

That is the third level, which is the Secret of Secrets. As I mentioned two days ago, the circle is the Secret, and the Secret of Secrets is the center of that circle. At night you see five or six stars with your eyes, but if you use a telescope you see dozens of stars. If you go to Google Sky you can navigate and zoom in on that constellation, and there are thousands of stars, it never ends. Who is there? Why can Google Sky see and we cannot see? One time a physicist, the inventor of the Hubble Telescope, told me the mirror they invented that can see in the sky was like, if I remember, they polish it and polish it and the smaller one is 100 meters wide. If they left the normal mirror to do the same work and did not polish it completely, very fine, and this took lot of time, it will be like the distance from California to New York, about 3000 miles!

So Awliyaullah have such huge mirrors that they see with, but Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q) was not able to detect his mureed’s question when he was falling down. That shaykh came from nowhere and was able to detect it and said, “There is still [something there].” There might be an angel that came hiding himself from Sayyidina `Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (q). Also Allah gave Awliyaullah tough tasks. He said because that mureed had that hidden thought, he cannot get his Trust, so if that is the case, where are we in Tariqah? And this is still from the second level.

In the third level, Annihilation, Maqaam al-Fanaa’, in the Shaykh, in the Prophet (s), in the Divine Presence, After that is Sirr as-Sirr, we won't go into it now, the Secret of Secrets is the center of the circumference, as if you have a camera and zoom in all these start coming out. What is the camera? It is yaa `abdee ati`nee. “O My servant, obey Me!” What is the mirror? Yaa `abdee ati`nee. Atee`ullaha wa atee`u 'r-Rasoola wa uli 'l-amri minkum. “Obey Allah, obey Prophet and obey those who are on authority.”

عبدي اطعني أجعلك ربانيا تقول لشيئ كن فيكون

`Abdee at`inee aj`aluka rabbaaniyyan taqool li-shay’in kun fa-yakoon.

My slave! Obey Me and I will make you Rabbaani, Lordly, so you say to something “Be!” and it will be (exist). (Hadith Qudsi)

Aja`luka rabbaaniyyan taqoolu li shay’in kun fa yakoon. This is the teaching of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and Grandshaykh. So when you read that verse, atee`oollah wa atee`oo ’r-rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum, Grandshaykh said there are 500 obligations on every person from the Day of Promises when Allah took a promise from everyone:

أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَىٰ

Alastu bi-rabbikum qaaloo balaa.

[Allah asked] “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes!” (Surat al-Araaf, 7:172)

Fee yawm, on the Day of Promises, that they will observe the 500 Obligations and leave the 800 Forbiddens, even the forbiddens in the mind. When you recite the ayah “atee`oollah”, Allah will dress you with that itaa`at because the Qur’an is alive. So when He dresses you with itaa`at, from that burning light can any sin remain? So say atee`oollah, yaa rabbee sami`naa wa ata`naa ghufraanaka rabbanaa wa ilayk al-maseer. If we say “atee`oo ’r-rasoola”, Prophet will dress you from his itaa`at as 'abd to the Creator, which is Maqaam at-Tawheed, even if you don’t know it, because it entered in the meaning of that ayah. And then if you say “atee`oo ’r-rasoola”, obey the Prophet (s):

وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا

Leave what Prophet (s) forbade and take what he ordered. (Surat al-Hashr, 59:7)

Whatever the Prophet (s) came with, take it. So he gave us Maqaam at-Tawheed, to say muwahhideena lillahi `azza wa jall, to refresh our memory every moment, saying “Laa ilaaha illa ‘Llah Muhammad rasoolAllah!” Even if you say it one time a day, they dress you with Maqaam at-Tawheed! And if you say, “Wa ooli ‘l-amri minkum”, the Awliya will guide you through your hearts to ita`at ar-rasool.

إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاء وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ

It is true you (O Muhammad) you will not be able to guide everyone whom you love, but Allah guides those whom He wills and He knows best those who receive guidance. (Surat al-Qasas, 28:56)

Allah is saying to Prophet (s), “Don't guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wishes.” So that means Allah will immediately guide that person, yuzzakiyy dhaalika ‘l-`abd, when the Prophet (s) presents that person to the Divine Presence!

All these five levels, Maqaam al-Khafaa wa Maqaam al-Akhfaa, Prophet’s level and then Allah’s Divine Presence, the Most Hidden, these we will not speak about. They are the engine of human beings. When that engine stops, you move. So what do you take with you? You take that, however much the engine will take you to a destination. In a car, what does the engine do? If you are not working it will not move, you stay where you are in your place, but when you have petrol it takes you to your destination.

Our destination is Akhirah! So we are not taking dunya with us to Akhirah. They say, “Sorry, no ticket, [you cannot board].” Our `amal is “atee`oollah wa atee`oo ’r-rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum”. Yaa Rabbee! Keep on our tongues “atee`oollah wa atee`oo ’r-rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum, `aqaa’id Ahlu ’s-Sunnah wa ’l-Jama`ah and `aqaaid Ahlu ‘t-Tasawwuf, `aqaaid Awliyaullah!

May Allah (swt) forgive us, bless us and keep us.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah. Taqabbal Allah.
