May Allah (swt) accept our minute worship. How many minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes? And the whole day we were busy with nonsense, watching YouTube. May Allah (swt) forgive us. May Allah (swt) forgive all of us.
A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen wa ‘s-salaatu wa ‘s-salaam `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa alihi wa ashabihi ajma`een wa man tabi`ahu bi ihsanin illa Yawmi ‘d-deen wa `alaa sa’iri ‘l-Anbiya wa ‘l-mursaleen wa ‘l-Awliya wa ibaadillahi ‘s-saliheen wa alayna ma`ahum ajma`een, yaa Arhamu ‘r-Rahimeen.
Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, yaa Sultan al-Awliya. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi wa Mawlay. Madad, yaa RijaalAllah.
As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
Mashaa-Allah, all of us are sinless. All of our sins have been erased. All of our mistakes and shortcomings, whether we knew it or didn’t know it, are forgiven, our khataya. Rasoolullah (s), the one gives us the glad tidings. That is why he is Basheer, the one who gives the glad tidings. All of our sins were forgiven, erased. They’re gone and our levels have been raised up to `Alaa `Illiyyeen, to the level of angels and higher.
The level of Bani Adam is higher than the level of angels because of `ilm. How did Adam (a) go above the angels? Allah (swt) said, he is My deputy. The angels asked, “Why not us? Why is this one Your deputy?” Because of `ilm. Wa `alama Adam.
And He taught Adam the nature of all things; then He placed them before the angels, and said: "Tell me the nature of these if ye are right." (Surat al-Baqara, 2:31)
He taught Adam (a). He gave Adam (a) `ilm. He did not give the angels `ilm as he gave to Adam (a). He gave them whatever they needed but Adam’s (a) `ilm has no ending. That is the value of a human being, his `ilm increases. It doesn’t stop. The value of Adam (a), the value of a human being is above angels due to their spiritual knowledge, heavenly knowledge, Divine knowledge. Who gives you that knowledge? Where do you find it? In Rasoolullah (s). Where else do you find it? Nowhere. Rasoolullah (s) has brought the pure knowledge, the untainted knowledge, the uncorrupt knowledge, the purest of pure knowledge. Ruhu ‘l-Quddus, the Pure Soul, the Holy Spirit as they call it, the pure one. He is the one who brought it. Pure only gives to pure. Pure doesn’t give to impure. I heard that so many times from our shuyookh. If your heart is impure, you will never get that pure knowledge.
Ruhu ‘l-Quddus, the ruh that is purified, absolute purity. He brought that pure `ilm to the pure heart of Rasoolullah (s). That is why Adam (a) and the Children of Adam have the potential to rise above all creation in the highest level.
We were brought up. How? It is simple. A little knowledge that you act upon is better than vast learning that you never act upon. A little knowledge that benefits you and you use is better than vast learning that remains unused.
Mashaa-Allah, I was watching YouTube. I ask forgiveness. They had something in the UK I think at the beginning of April. Does anybody know? There’s no `alim here. Alhamdulillah. I didn’t know about it but actually there is khatmu ‘l-Muwatta in Ashton, the Central Mosque. We have two `ulama, alhamdulillah. They said there were `ulama in the hundreds. I thought we had a lot of people at our gatherings. It is nothing. I was humbled by that congregation. And there were over two thousand Hadith and many people were there.
What benefits a human being is the Hadith or knowledge of Rasoolullah (s) that can be applied, lived by, acted upon and practiced. Knowledge without action is incomplete. It is not going to benefit you. Knowledge with action is what is necessary, even if your knowledge is little. One, two, three Ahadith from the knowledge of Rasoolullah (s).
What did Rasoolullah (s) say to his Sahaabah (r)? Alaa adullukum ‘ala maa yamhu Allahu bihi al-khataayaa wa yarfa’u bihi al-darajaat. “Should I direct you to the way that Allah (swt) will erase all mistakes, all sins and elevate your darajah? Take wudu at home, walk to the masjid, and wait for the next prayer.” Make sure your wudu is complete with everything done correctly, even if it’s difficult. Now we’re getting older. I cannot bend down to wash my toes anymore or raise it up. May Allah (swt) forgive us. Even if it is difficult, you are trying your best to make it correctly.
Mashaa-Allah, these two shuyookh came from Toronto. I know they were in the car but again, a vast distance. After we pray `Asr, what are we waiting for? Maghrib. We took wudu at home. We walked to the masjid. This is a masjid, a musallah, a place where you perform sajdah. Any place you perform sajdah you can call a masjid. Jami` is different. Jami` is the place that gathers everybody. It is bigger.
You came to a place where sajdah is made. You took wudu at home. You walked, drove, flew or whatever. You came to the masjid and now you are waiting for the next prayer. Rasoolullah (s) said by these three things, Allah (swt) erases all sins, so you are pure. When you’re pure, you receive. You are pure and your levels have gone up. Also the people who attended that conference in the UK, they also walked to the masjid because it was in the Central Mosque. May Allah (swt) accept from them and forgive them and accept from us and forgive us.
We cannot be at that calibre. We are not `ulama. We are not people who spent their lives in the Muslim libraries. We are easy ones, we come and go. We want something simple. This is the bisharah of Rasoolullah (s). He gave you a Hadith. If you do it, you will never have any sin. If you go from prayer to prayer, if you walk to the masjid if you can. If you cannot walk to the masjid, at home, whatever. Allah (swt) is promising, Rasoolullah (s) is promising, all sins will be erased. Yamhu Allahu bihi al-khataayaa. He did not specify which khataya. Khataya means mistakes, sins, disobediences. He didn’t specify. Allah (swt)’s Rahmah is vast. He can forgive anything He wants. We are asking with this simple Hadith that we know, with this simple practice that we do that Allah (swt) elevate our darajat. He said, yarfa`u bihi al-darajaat. He will bring your darajat high. How high? We ask more. He said: Wa ladayna mazeed. We have more.
There will be for them therein all that they wish,- and more besides in Our Presence. (Surah Qaf, 50:35)
The levels are endless. With one `amal, Allah (swt) can put you all the way up. With one `amal, He can bring you all the way down.
Faman ya`mal mithqala dharratin khayran yara.
Then anyone who has done an atom's weight of good shall see it! (Surah Az-Zalzalah, 99:7)
Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it. Whoever does an atom’s weight of evil, they will see it. With one `amal, Allah (swt) might multiply that khayr. What is barakah? It is ziyadatu ‘l-khayr. When they say, “There is barakah in this,” it means the khayr of this is multiplying, it is increasing. One dish, mashaa-Allah, is feeding a hundred people. There is too much barakah. What does barakah mean? It means it keeps increasing, khayr keeps increasing. Tabaaraka ‘l-ladhee bi yadihi ‘l-mulk.
Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion; and He has Power over all things. (Surat al-Mulk, 67:1)
He has all the barakah. He can increase one `amal or an atom’s weight of a good deed into a mountain. Who can say, “no”? He is Kareem. Look at the beauty of Islam. Islam is not difficult. Turning to the Lord of Heavens is not a difficult task. You don’t have to pray one thousand raka’ats like some saints do. All you need to do is one, two, three, or whatever you can from Sunnan and faraa’id. Of course, we have to do the faraa’id as much as we can. Actually, you have to do it. Allah (swt) knows best. It’s easy. Allah (swt) will give you higher stations. Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it.
I heard this from our teacher in his suhbahs. A man came to Rasoolullah (s) and he said, “O Master. Teach me from what Allah (swt) has taught you.” He sent him to someone to teach him the Qur’an. Isn’t that what Rasoolullah (s) was taught? `Allama ‘l-Qur’an. Allah (swt) taught him the Qur’an. That someone opened, starting with the short surahs like our imam does with the kids, the beginners. They read, asta’eedhu billah:
إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ زِلْزَالَهَا
Idhaa zulzilati ‘l-`ardhu zilzaalahaa
When the earth is shaken to her (utmost) convulsion. (Surat az-Zalzalah, 99:1)
They came to the end of that surah.
Faman ya`mal mithqala dharratin khayran yara. Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it. Wa man ya`mal mithqala dharratin sharran yara. Whoever does an atom’s weight of bad will see it. The man said, “Hasbee. This is enough for me.” They told Rasoolullah (s) what happened. He said, “This man truly understood. Leave him.” What did he understand? This man grasped the essence of accountability before God, hisaab. This man understood the meaning and grasped the reality of standing in front of Allah (swt) for accounting. He said, “This is enough for me. I don’t need anything else.” He only took this little knowledge but for him it was enough to go to Paradise.
No matter how tiny the actions are, he understood that Allah (swt) is looking at that, so he became mustaqee, straight, not doing any bad because he knows he will be accounted for. Rather, he was doing every goodness that he could. Simple. He took one verse from the Qur’an and that one verse transformed his life.
There are three levels: knowing, understanding and living. First you know: memorizing, reading, quoting. Second, you understand. You grasp the meaning. Third, living. What is living? Your character and behavior changes. As they say, information, comprehension, transformation. The Qur’ani ‘l-Kareem and all Heavenly Books have come with information for you to understand and to have a transformation. Where is the transformation? They say almost everybody stops at the first level, knowing, memorizing, quoting, reading two thousand plus Hadith. “Okay, we know.” Did you understand it?
Most people stop at the first level. They know vast information. Mashaa-Allah. Did you grasp the meaning? Some get there. Some understand the meaning. What is the third level? To live, to act, to be that meaning. Very few reach that level. That is the transformation where your behavior and character changes.
That man, with the two verses he read, “Whoever does good will see it. Whoever does bad will see it,” his life transformed. He knew the information. He understood the information and then his life transformed. That’s what you need. You need one Hadith, two Ahadith, okay, five Ahadith to fully understand and implement.
If we don’t know anything and alhamdulillah, we don’t know much, what we do know is take wudu at home, walk to the masjid, increase your steps to the masjid and wait for the next prayer. Allah (swt) forgives all the sins. Allah (swt) raises you to the highest stations. You don’t need more than that. `Ulama are the guardians of the deen. You cannot tell them, “Don’t study. Don’t read. Don’t quote.” They are the guardians of that sacred knowledge. Alhamdulillah. May Allah (swt) give them more power.
But we are not. We take what they gave but we try to implement. That is tahaqquq, realization, when you become it, when it becomes you. It’s not one to one or two entities, basically you have become the same. It is you. That’s why Hazrat `Aisha (r) said, “The manners, the conduct, the character of Rasoolullah (s) was the Qur’an.” They were one. They became one, inseparable. That is the ultimate or the highest level of a human being, when your `ilm is basically Kalaamu ‘l-Llah. How high is that? In Surat al-Kahf Allah (swt) says:
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ ٱلْبَحْرُ مِدَادًا لِّكَلِمَـٰتِ رَبِّى لَنَفِدَ ٱلْبَحْرُ قَبْلَ أَن تَنفَدَ كَلِمَـٰتُ رَبِّى وَلَوْ جِئْنَا بِمِثْلِهِۦ مَدَدًا
Say: "If the ocean were ink (wherewith to write out) the words of my Lord, sooner would the ocean be exhausted than would the words of my Lord, even if we added another ocean like it, for its aid." (Surat al-Kahf, 18:109)
In another ayah:
And if all the trees on earth were pens and the ocean (were ink), with seven oceans behind it to add to its (supply), yet would not the words of Allah be exhausted (in the writing): for Allah is Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom. (Surah Luqman, 31:27)
If all trees were pens or pencils and I give them all the ink they needed, Qalamu ‘l-Llah would not end. It means your `ilm, your knowledge, your Noor does not end. Rasoolullah’s (s) inner reality became the Qur’an. He transformed from a human being to Allah (swt)’s most beloved servant. May Allah (swt) forgive us.
One, two, three Ahadith are enough for us. May Allah (swt) be pleased with those who are collecting all that knowledge and trying to spread it. Ameen.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
