Jumu`ah Khutbah
A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
...without the lights of iman. When you are going to meet Allah (swt), what do you have to do? We are traveling in this dunya. Rasoolullah (s) said, renew your ship. Alhamdulillah, we are renewing our ship five times a day at least. We remember to say, Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah, in our prayers and, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah. We are renewing the ship. This dunya is deep and the journey is long. Who do you meet on the other side in Akhirah? Allah (swt). Allah (swt) is saying, man kana yarju liqaa Allahi fa inna ja ala ‘Llahi ya’ma amalan saliha.
For those whose hopes are in the meeting with Allah (in the Hereafter, let them strive); for the term (appointed) by Allah is surely coming and He hears and knows (all things). (Surat al-Ankabut, 29:5)
Do we read Surah Kahf? Yes, we read it every Friday. O Muslim, if you want to meet Allah (swt) and every Muslim knows that’s the end of their journey...you are not staying here forever. They’re not going to give you a residence permit in dunya. Everybody will go. When your time is up they will say, “Your ticket is due today. This is your boarding pass.” You are going.
You will go to Allah (swt) in Akhirah. Allah (swt) is saying, if you want to meet Me, I want a nice, pious, pure amal, a deed that is done only for My Pleasure, for Me. What you did was not to please anybody, it was not done to please your ego, it was not to gain a position or to gain more dunya. All of us have the love of dunya in our hearts. Allah (swt) is saying, be sure when you cross this world to the other world that you come with good amal. Allah (swt) has given you time.
What does He say? Wa ‘l-Asr. Allah (swt) takes an oath by the time He has given you, your lifespan. Inna ‘l-insaana laa fee khusr. Human beings are certainly at a loss. A loss of what? His lifespan. Every day you are going down. Mashaa-Allah, when I was 12-years-old, I was playing soccer like crazy. For seven hours a day I was out in the street with other kids, hitting these Pepsi cans. What happens when you are 50 or 60? You go down. You lose your health, your strength, your memory, your breath and your life. Allah (swt) says, human beings are losing time except? Where are the Muslims to remember? When we read the Qur'an, it shouldn’t just be hifz. Mashaa-Allah, be from the carriers of the Qur’an but understand what it says.
Inna ‘l-ladhina amaanu, except those who believe they will meet their Creator, those who believe and follow the books sent by their Creator, those who follow the prophets sent by their Creator. When we believe in that, Allah (swt) will love to meet us as well. When they don’t believe that human beings are at a loss, what are they doing? They’re in their bazaars, stock markets, offices, corporations, they’re here and there. What are they doing? They’re losing their breath, their days and their lives. Who are they doing the `amal for? When you’re in a corporation, are you working for Allah (swt) or for your boss? You made the bosses so rich. They love you to death. They will make you work to death if they can. When you go to Allah (swt) and say, “Yaa Rabbee. I spent my life working for Mr. X, Y, Z.” Mashaa-Allah. Bravo. Good job. Did your boss give you your rizq? No. If you say, “My boss gives me rizq,” you are doubting Ar-Razzak. You can’t. Did your boss give you your wife? No. Did he give you everything that Allah (swt) has bestowed on you? No. If you say, “Yes,” then you have made partners with Allah (swt). Wa la yushrik bi `ibadati Rabbihee ahada. Do good work but don’t associate anyone with the worship of your Lord.
Qul innamaa anaa basharun mithlukum yoohaa ilayya annamaa ilaahukum ilaahun wahidun faman kaana yarjoo liqaa rabbihi fal-ya`mal `amalan saalihan wa laa yushrik bi `ibadati rabbihi ahada.
Say, "I am but a man like yourselves, (but) the inspiration has come to me that your Allah is one Allah. Whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness and in the worship of his Lord admit no one as partner. (Surat al-Kahf, 18:110)
O insaan. Take heed. You are a traveler. The more white hair you see on your face, the more you should understand that you are going. What do they do? They have, “Just for men.” “Who’s aging? We’re not aging. Dye it.” Better yet, do botox. Take away all the wrinkles. They are afraid of wrinkles. They botox to be smiling permanently. If you look at them, they don’t look like human beings anymore. They look like mannequins. No, you’re not aging. “We’re going to make anti-aging clinics.” At the end, they drop and go.
May Allah (swt) forgive all of us when we are on the way out. We are all sinners. I’m not saying we are better than them. All of us are in this dunya as travellers. Understand that Allah (swt) has given you time to find Him. How do you find Him? What is time?
It is said that time is an envelope that contains al-ayat al-`Ilahiyya. It is basically a platform where you observe Divine Signs and phenomenon. Like what? Al-layl wa ‘n-nahar, the night and the day. These are all signs of the Creator, signs of the Designer. You see the moon, the sun, the clouds and the rain. When a human being is going throughout the day or night, he will understand that Allah (swt) is making events unfold. Time is where the events unfold in front of your eyes--events, circumstances, whatever. That is for the common people.
What is time for the special people? They see the Manifestations of Allah (swt)’s Attributes. For example, the rain. You see a cloud coming, you see the rain coming down and, Mashaa-Allah, you see all the vegetables and fruits growing in your garden. How nice. Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur’an, asta`eedhu billah:
Fanzhur illa athari rahmatillah. Look at the traces of Allah (swt)’s Rahmah. Kayfa yuhi ‘l-arda ba’da mawtiha. How does He make this earth come back to life after its death?
Then contemplate (O man!) the memorials of Allah's Mercy!- how He gives life to the earth after its death: verily the same will give life to the men who are dead: for He has power over all things. (Surat ar-Rum, 30:50)
The mu’min sees that Allah (swt) has sent His Rahmah. He’s not looking at the rain anymore, he’s looking beyond. The normal person sees rain coming down. The mu’min sees Rahmatullah manifesting itself. The mu’min then sees hayat that is given from Allah (swt) manifesting itself. That `Ismu ‘l-Hayy, that `Ismu ‘l-Muhiy, The Alive One, the manifestation of that comes down on earth and gives back life.
A mu’min sees SifaatAllah in action. A mu’min sees Allah (swt)’s Work and Play. He doesn’t see the moon, the sun, the rain and the clouds. He sees SifaatAllah, Allah (swt)’s Noor. The Heavens and earth are Noor of Allah (swt). The mu’min observes Allah (swt)’s Existence in time. There is definitely somebody creating all of that and there’s definitely somebody with Allah (swt) of these attributes creating all of that. That’s why Allah (swt) made an oath by the time.
In your time you have to observe Allah (swt)’s Signs. In your lifespan, you have to observe the Manifestations of Allah (swt)’s Beautiful Names and Attributes. That is the job of the mu’min. It’s not to be heedless. It’s raining today, so they say a curse word. It’s snowing today, a curse word. You are not like the ones who don’t see. Allah (swt) gave you the Noor of iman so you see His Actions at play.
What else is in time? Why is time so honored? Because time carries the Risaala of Rasoolullah (s). It is honored by the message of Rasoolullah (s) continuing in time. From when? Before Adam (a) was created. Kuntu Nabiyyan, “I was a Prophet from the beginning of time.” The honor of time is that it carries the Nubuwwat, the Risaalat of Rasoolullah (s). That’s why time is honored. His Risaala continues throughout time. Allah (swt) makes an oath by something very honorable, very important: the Nubuwwat of Rasoolullah (s). His message is flowing through time: from the beginning of humanity to the end of humanity. Find him. Who’s finding him?
All they are finding out is, “How do I make more money with bitcoin?” Everyday with crypto coins, crypto currency, gold, silver and I don’t know what. They spend all their days looking for clues on how to make more and nobody is looking for clues on how to get closer to Rasoolullah (s), to follow him correctly to reach Allah (swt). Very few and we are from the few lucky ones. Allah (swt) bestowed on us the love of Rasoolullah (s), the `ilm of Rasoolullah (s), the guidance of Rasoolullah (s).
What does Rasoolullah (s) say? Renew the ship. “Yaa Aba Darr. O my beloved companion. Renew your ship.” Don’t allow there to be a hole in that boat. Don’t allow there to be a hole in your heart to take on the water of hubbu ‘d-dunya. Seal it. How do you renew the ship? They bring the ship up to shore, they paint it and clean it every year. You too, every day you have to renew your ship. You have to say, Allahumma inni asbahtu. “Yaa Rabbee. I entered this morning making You my Witness.” Witness of what? Laa ilaaha illa Anta. There is no `ilaa except You. Wa ana Muhammadan `abduhu wa Rasooluh. Muhammad (s) is Your servant and he is Your messenger. Say the same thing at night. “I entered into the night. I’m making You a witness. Laa `ilaaha illa Anta.”
Does nobody wonder, “How does the day go away and the night comes? What power is that? Who can make the sun go away?” Mashaa-Allah, they have so much AI and AGI and LGI and I don’t know what “I.” There is so much “I” in the world. Now everything is intelligent. “I” this and “I” that. “E” this and “E” that. Make the sun go faster. “We can’t.” Make the sky rain. “We can’t.” Make the snow come down. “We can’t.” Where is your power? Who does that? It’s dark at 4 a.m. At 6 a.m., lo and behold, it’s all light. Who did that? Which AI? Everyday Allah (swt) shows you His Power. Who can change that?
Who pulls the moon up in the sky? Does the International Space Station have a hook on the moon to pull it up in the sky? I look at the moon at night. Mashaa-Allah, every hour it’s higher. Who’s pulling that? Who’s pulling the stars? They are not in place. The stars start to rise. Who’s pulling the clouds? How come they don’t fall down? They’re always in a straight line. That’s why it’s called “sahaab.” It comes from “sahaba,” which means “pull.” Sahaab is the one that is pulled. Who’s pulling the clouds? They don’t ask. They’re not interested in that because they’re not look at nature. They’re looking at their screens. “Oh a message came through. Crypto is down. Let me buy. Crypto is high. Let me sell so I can make money.” That’s what they do.
The mu’min does not look at the screen. The mu’min looks at Allah (swt)’s Manifestations of His Holy Names and Attributes at play. The mu’min looks at what Rasoolullah (s) has told him, You’re going to meet Allah (swt), so meet him in the best attire, in the best Noor. You’re going to leave this world. No matter how much you stay in it, you are leaving. As we said yesterday, live as long as you want. In the end you will die. Live one million years if you can. No, one trillion years. And then it will finish.
There is no age in Jannah, as I heard from my teacher. If Allah (swt) said, you're going to stay in Jannah for three trillion years, nobody would be happy. Everybody would be crying. Jannah would be the place of crying. Why? Because the days are getting less and less and eventually you will get kicked out. Three trillion days will disappear.
If the same thing was told to the people of Jahannam, “You are going to be in Jahannam for three trillion years,” they would be happy because at the end it’s going to finish. Day by day, year by year it’s going to finish. Jannah would be the dar of sorrow and Jahannam would be the dar of happiness. That’s why there’s no time, no age, no years, nothing. Forever.
Try to be from them, O mu’min. Don’t forget. Don’t open a hole in your heart for this dunya. Float upon it. Take what you need until you reach the other coast which is Akhirah. May Allah (swt) allow us to meet Him in the best of ways, in the best of shapes, in the best of forms so that we are all enlightened with the Noor of Rasoolullah (s) so he will be happy with us and water us from his Hawd and inshaa-Allah, all of us enter with him. Inshaa-Allah all of us are from ashaaba ‘l-Jannah.
Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
