Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

24 March 2013 Fenton Zawiya, Michigan

Suhbah before Zhuhr

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani ‘r-rajim. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Dastoor madad yaa Sayyidee. As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

They said to speak about something nice that will make us happy and not something frightening, because it makes someone expect some attack on them. Yes, if there is no attack you feel peaceful, you might fall into the trap of Shaytan and you consider what you are doing within the range of peacefulness. But, Shaytan always tricks one. He tries to come in different ways to attack you, so instead of being defensive you have to be offensive; you don’t wait until the danger comes on you and then you try to defend it or push it. But before the danger comes you must always be in readiness completely with your mind, your brain, your heart, with your arrow so that if any kind of attack comes from Shaytan, you throw on him. So it is not necessary that we have to speak every time about petting. Allah (swt) is happy to pet His servants and make them feel happy. But sometimes Allah (swt) sends strong messages, He said, “Verily We sent verses of Holy Qur’an to make people aware, to fear of what is coming.”

We are not aware, and everyone of us is doing what they like, and we don’t know the consequences. So as much as you are aware, Allah will be happy with you. I used to hear every time from Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, that always after aayaat al-`adhaab, verses of punishment in Holy Qur’an, come aayaat ar-rahmah, verses of mercy to balance. Because an `abd has to be worried and afraid and at the same time when he is afraid, Allah sends him a verse of rahmah. That is why He said:

وَمَا نُرْسِلُ بِالآيَاتِ إِلاَّ تَخْوِيفًا

wa maa nursilu bi ’l-ayaati illa takhweefah,

We only send the Signs by way of terror (and warning from evil). (Surat al-Israa, 17:59)

“We do not send verses except to scare you.”

It means in the hidden, “We are happy with you. Our Rahmah is there to take care of you and balance what you are afraid of, but, you be ready.”

So what did Prophet (s) say in a hadith?

`ani ’l-Hasan qaal qaala rasoolullahi sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallama yaqoolu ’Llahu ta`alaa idhaa kaan al-ghaalib `alaa `abdee al-ishtighaalu bee ja`altu na`eemahu wa ladhatahu fee dhikree fa-idhaa ja`alta na`eemahu wa ladhatahu fee dhikree `ashaqanee wa `ashaqtahu fa-idhaa `ashaqanea wa `ashaqtahu rafa`ta al-hijaaba feemaa baynee wa baynahu wa sirrtu mu`alliman bayna `aynayhi laa yas-hoo idhaa as-haa an-naasu oolaa’ika kalaamahum kalaamu’l-anbiyaa oolaa’ika al-abtaala haqqan oolaa’ika’Lladheena idhaa aradtu bi-ahli ’l-ardi `uqoobatan wa `adhaaban dhakartuhum fa sarafta dhaalika `anhum.

If My servant with all his mind and heart remembers Me, I will make his pleasure, to continuously remember Me through his heart and I avoid Shaytan from that person because of what he is doing; trying to make his own pleasure in remembering Me... (Abu Na`eem in his Hilya, from al-Hasan [as]).

So that is why awliyaullah went through that road and they found that dhikrullah is important in our life. And I was looking at this statistics, for example to balance everything Allah gave everything a balance. As we were saying before, everything in the Holy Qur'an is in balance; there are verses of `adhaab and aayaat of rahmah; aayaat al-fasaad and aayaat al-nafa`,verses of corruption and verses of benefit; aayaat us-sayf and aayaat al-shitaa ; aayaat ar-rusul and aayaat al-anbiya; aayaat ad-dunya and aayaat al-Akhirah. There are verses about this life and Akhirah, and there are verses about benefit and harm.

This is a schedule. SubhaanAllah, look at how much greatness you see in the Holy Qur'an! For example, aayaat of jazaa, about Allah’s punishment, occur 117 times, and aayaat al-maghfirah, for Allah's forgiveness, are mentioned 117 times. Aayaat al-maseer, destiny, are mentioned 28 times, of what is going to happen to the believers, and about living forever, aayaat al-abad, are mentioned 28 times. Allahu akbar! Allah is telling you, “I am punishing you, beware! I send verses of the Holy Qur'an to make you aware and afraid and balanced, while on the other side are verses of forgiveness; punishment is mentioned 117 times and magfirah, forgiveness is mentioned 117 times. If you find a way to balance, Allah gave you an opportunity, balance the verse of jazaa and maghfirah then you go to Paradise. If you gave more to aayaat al-maghfirah from aayaat al-jazaa then you will be going to Paradise with no account. If you make istighfaar daily then you can overcome the verses of punishment.” Therefore, the mashaayikh give a wird of istighfaar 700 times daily or 300 times or 100 times, or 10 times or 70 times daily, to ask Allah's forgiveness in order to cut aayaat al-jazaa.

We mentioned aayaat al-maseer, verses of destiny, where you are going to go if you follow that line or this line, which occur 28 times and verses of abad, living forever, are mentioned 28 times. Verses about dunya are mentioned 115 times and the verses of Akhirah, rabbana atina fid ‘d-unya hasanat wa fi ‘l-akhiraati hasanat are mentioned 115 times. SubhaanAllah, alhamdulillah! Is it manufactured by human beings? Is it written by human beings? Impossible! Aayaat al-hayaat, verses of living or life, are mentioned 71 times and aayaat al-mawt, verses about death are mentioned 71 times, balancing. Allah is saying, “I am balancing them for you, I am not punishing. I am punishing, but you have a chance for maghfirah. I mentioned dunya 115 times and I mentioned Akhirah 115 times.” It means there is a balance between both of them; rabbana atina fid ‘d-dunya hasanat wa fi ‘l-akhiraati hasanat between both dunya and Akhirah.

How many times is sayf, the summer, mentioned in the Holy Qur'an? Even summer is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an and it is mentioned five times. When we say, “sayf,” for an example here, it means anything from the time of Sayyidina Adam (a) up to Judgment Day; sayf is a season that is warm, which is summer, so anything happening in that summer or the summers from Sayyidina Adam (a) is mentioned in these five places in the Holy Qur'an. Awliyaullah can dive into these five verses to know all their secrets, to know the history and pull out everything they want about summer and what is known about summer, what Allah has given to dunya in summer, they can dive in and get that knowledge. “Shitaa,” winter, is similarly mentioned five times. So with this, we ask Allah (swt) to forgive us. May Allah forgive us and bless us with His endless blessings. That is a miracle by itself and there is no need to continue, but we continue the Hadith Qudsi, we began relating earlier. The Prophet (s) said:

If the servant of Allah is overtaken by remembering Allah always, [Allah says], “I will make all his concern and all his pleasure and joy in My remembrance....

This what we have just explained about how many times there is mention of the numbers and repetition of words in the Holy Qur'an, and their opposite shows how much by dhikrullah you will be saved and dressed with these characteristics, Allah (swt) will dress you with His Beautiful Names and Attributes.

The hadith continues:

...When I dress him from My pleasure and remove from him the veils between me and him, that person will not be heedless when people are heedless; he will always be alert! The words of these people, who I dress from My pleasure and who are always in My pleasure, are like My prophets' words.

That is why the Prophet (s) said:

علماء أمتي كأنبياء بني اسرائيل

`Ulama ummatee ka anbiyaa Bani Isra’eel.

The scholars of my ummah are like the prophets of Bani Israel.

`Ulama as-saaliheen, those who are pious and sincere and Allah called them:

أَلا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاء اللّهِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Alaa inna awliyaaullaahi laa khawfun `alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon.

Behold! Verily on the Friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Surah Yunus, 10:62)

Their words are like prophets’ words. And he repeats it, oolaaika kalaamu kalaamu ‘l-anbiyaa, “Those people, their words are like words of prophets.” And he said, “Anbiya means prophets of Bani Israel.” They are the Abdaal, Substitutes. Allah is saying, “If I decide punishment for people on Earth, I will mention these servants of Mine, whose concern is My Pleasure, and I will take their punishment away.”

May Allah take punishment away from us and keep our hearts always with dhikrullah. (Ameen).

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
