Mercy Can Not Be Limited

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

30 May 2015 Potomac, Maryland

Suhbah at Private Residence

Grandshaykh (q) used to say dhikr can send blessings over 70,000 people in the area, in different homes, different un-Islamic gatherings, the baraka of the dhikr will take all their sins away. It’s like a washing machine clean your clothes, dhikrullah makes you clean.

أَنَا جَلِيْسُ مَنْ ذَكَرَنِي

I sit with him who remembers Me. (Hadith Qudsi. Ahmad, Bayhaqi)

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta`ala al-`Azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.

[Khatm al-Khwajagan.]

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

Alhamdulillahi wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa Sayyidina wa nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. Ammaa ba`d, fa ‘l-hamdulillah `ala maa hadnaa ila ‘l-islam wa nawwaranaa bi noori habeebihi ‘l-Mustafa `alayhi afdal al-salaatu wa ‘l-salaam wa ayyadana bi ‘l-qur’aan wa ghafara lana fee shahri ramadan fa lahu ‘l-minna wa lahu ‘l-`izzah subhaanahu wa ta`alaa rabb al-`aalameen

O Muslim brothers and sisters, alhamdulillah in this month is Sha`baan, the month of Prophet (s), where he said:

رجب شهر الله، وشعبان شهري، ورمضان شهر أمتي

Rajab is Allah's month, Sha`baan is my month and Ramadan is the month of the Ummah.

(Abul-Fath ibn Abi Fawaris in his `Amalee from al-Hasan)

Rajab is the month of Allah (swt), and Sha`baan is the month of Prophet (s), and Ramadan the month of the Ummah. Allah made them holy months in order that we will benefit and will attain His Pleasure, His Acceptance of us, which means anyone in this month may do something that attracts Allah’s Happiness, and that `abd will be rewarded. For that reason He made that month, to reward His servant in order to prepare him for something great.

Now when He says on the tongue of His Prophet (s) that “this month is My month,” it means a lot, it means it is the month that Allah (swt) will raise His servant to different levels of Ascensions because the whole message that Prophet (s) and all other prophets came with is Allah al-Khaaliq, Allah is The Creator, and huwa al-`abd, “You are the servant,” which is Maqaam at-Tawheed. Those today speaking about Tawheed, they only understand the term itself, but in reality their or our Tawheed is not perfect, unless we see in everything as a sign of Tawheed. That’s why the sign in this month that He made holy is representing you: if you do good in that month, your `amal in that month will represent you in the Divine Presence. The Allah is happy from you and raises you, but if you do something He is not happy with He will not bring you down, He will keep you in your level.

The reality of Tawheed can be understood from Shahr Rajab, because Allah (swt) said, “It is My month.” What does Allah want to do with this month? He wants to dress the servants with the Reality of Oneness, for them to see everything coming from Allah (swt) or pointing to Allah (swt) or making people to keep their attention on Allah (swt) as The Creator. So that month is a preparation for your acceptance and declaration of Tawheed, and therefore, Allah dressed you with the Secret of Laa ilaaha illa-Llah.

من قال لا اله الا الله دخل الجنة

Whoever says ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah’ enters Paradise. (Mustadrak of an-Nisaburi)

That’s for sure, but which Paradise? The Paradise for the whole Ummah, `ammat al-Ummah, but khaassat al-Ummah, the ones who observe Rajab, Allah dressed them to understand the Reality He sent with His Prophet (s), the Message of Islam, to say as He ordered the Pen to write Laa ilaaha illa-Llah for many, many years, scholars differs as to how many years, but most agree it was for 70,000 years the Pen was writing Laa ilaaha illa-Llah. That’s why Rajab gives you understanding of the relation of what the Pen wrote and the Yaqeen, and what the `amal is about.

When we say “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” we don’t say anything, but when a sincere person says it they can see. In many Ahadeeth Allah says He will give the sincere servants to see what other servants cannot see. So Maqaam at-Tawheed is in everything and it shows you that Allah (swt) is The One and no other one is there. Allah created us from nothing! Maqaam at-Tawheed is to believe in kun fa yakoon. If Allah opened the meaning of that to His servants, they can do miracles!

Allah (swt) gave us that month to prepare us for what is coming in front of us. So from Maqaam at-Tawheed, where he said laa ilaaha illa ‘Llah, He takes us to Shahr Sha`baan, where he said sha`ban shahree. Why He said? Because He wants to perfect his Ummah. To give him Allah’s space in order that he can prepare the Ummah, perfect them, complete them. Allah gave them that month. He didn’t say any month is my monthexcept Sha`baan. What is in that month? That month carries a lot. It carries what Allah said to the Pen after 70,00 years write Muhammadun Rasoolullah, and the pen was wondering, “Who is that Muhammad that You said to put his name with Your Name?” Allah answered. A voice came saying: Law laa Muhammad ma khalaqtu ahadan min khalqee, if not for Muhammad I would not have created any of creation.

So Sha`baan takes you to travel in the Reality of Sayyidina Muhammad (s). Before Islam Sahaabah (r) were seeing the Prophet (s) according to their levels. Everyone was seeing something that they were attracted to, although they were not yet Muslim and the Prophet did not yet receive the message. They were seeing on him signs. That’s why they loved him. You have a child you love him and you take care of him. What do you think about Prophet (s)? All of us are children of Prophet (s). He has to take care of us; if he doesn’t take care of us we are lost. So in this month, the month of Sha`baan and we are still in it, and on Tuesday it is 15th of Sha`baan, the night before, Monday evening, is Laylat al-Baraa’ah.

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ

In it (the night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom. (Surat al-Dukhan, 44:4)

In that night as the Seerah says Allah descends to the First Paradise and looks at what the servants are doing. As it came to us, from one to another until today, Surat Yaseen. Why Surat Yaseen? Because Yaseen is Muhammad (s). It is the month that we are travelling in the Reality of Muhammad Rasoolullah. He opened for his Ummah to enter and that Yaseen is a Surah in the Holy Qur’an, and it is mentioned that Yaseen is Qalb al-Qur'an. The Qur'an is not a book, the Qur'an is Allah’s Words, it’s alive. Every letter of it is alive, it talks and speaks. If you are able to meditate well on every letter of Holy Qur'an, Noor comes from it, meanings, realities come out, because it is Kalaam Allah al-qadeem. Allah’s Word is not created. It is Allah’s Word sent to Prophet (s) alive. We are not reading it alive, but Prophet (s) was receiving it alive, the Words speak to him, the Letters speak to him, the Verses speak to him, every Surah speaks to him.

So we enter, when we observe Sha`baan we are entering into the alive meanings, the meanings that are living, that the Sahaabah (r) were hearing from Prophet (s). The evidence is when Sayyidina `Umar (r) knew that his sister accepted Islam, he came to beat her up, and she was hiding some of the Holy Qur'an, some papers written in that time on leaves of trees or on animal skin. He read, he said, “Where is Muhammad?” Suddenly, no preparation, because the words talked to him, the Noor from these letters came into his heart because they are living letters. He went to Prophet (s), knocked the door, entered and he said “Yaa Rasoolullah I want to become Muslim!” Of course that is the du`a of Prophet (s):

اللهم أعز الاسلام بأحد العمرين

O Allah! Strengthen Islam with one of the two Umars. (Tirmidhi)

“Yaa Rabbee, give me one of the two `Umars!” `Allah gave him Sayyidina `Umar al-Khattab (r) because `Umar's (r) heart was ready, like a patient ready for a doctor to fix him, rehabilitate him, cure him, operate on him with a laser you cannot see. It is a light moving in 300 thousand kilometers per second, reaching every organ to fix it, but if you don't use in proper way, it will not give you the reality of goodness. So the words of the Holy Qur’an were giving the light of the reality of Prophet (s) which he drowned the Ummah with. So quickly Sayyidina `Umar (r) said Shahadah in the presence of Prophet (s). We are not saying it in the presence of Prophet (s), we are saying it in the presence of the room, in the presence of each other. We are not witnessing that we have seen and heard `ilm al-yaqeen, `ayn al-yaqeen, haqq al-yaqeen. You have to know it, you have to see it, then you reach haqq al-yaqeen, the reality of certainty. We are not. Sha`baan prepares you to receive these lights from the Holy Qur’an that the Sahaabah (r) were receiving and seeing from Prophet (s). That’s why they are different, not anyone can reach their levels. So in that month, at the capacity and level of every person Prophet dresses them. Prophet (s) can dress the whole Ummah at the same time and at the same moment, and not one overlapping the other, everyone will get their share. Look at the power Allah gave to Prophet.

They prepare us to reach shahru ‘l-Ummah, the month of the Ummah, after receiving the Reality of Tawheed in Rajab, and in Sha`baan the Reality of Muhammad, and the Noor of Holy Qu'ran that Jibreel (a) brings to Prophet (s), we are ready to enter the month of the Ummah. That is why he said:

أوله رحمة وأوسطه مغفرة وآخره عتق من النار

The first ten days of it are Rahmah, the second ten days are Maghfirah and the third ten days are freeing from the Fire. (Bayhaqi)

The first ten days of Ramadan, for those that are fasting, they will be dressed with Rahmah. Rahmatullah will be dressing us and forgiving us. When you are dressed with Rahmah it means you are dressed with Muhammad (s) cause he is Rahmah. When awliyaullah look at you they will know you have been dressed by Rahmah, by the reality of the Prophet, and Maqaam al-Tawheed. They are ordered to look at you until the Day of Judgement. Even you are not doing the same next year or another year, you will still get that Rahmah because it goes until the Day of Judgement. Rahmah cannot be limited. When Allah gives, He doesn't take. Allah orders His angels to throw the sayyi’aat, but the hasanaat are there.

وَمَا أُوتِيتُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

What you have been given of knowledge is little. (Surat al-Israa, 17:85)

What you have been given from knowledge is limited. So you enter in the ocean of the first ten days of Ramadan, the Ocean of Rahmatullah, and Allah (swt) dressed his Prophet (s) with Rahmatullah, that’s why He said:

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ

(O Muhammad!) We have sent you not except as a Mercy for all the Worlds. (Surat al-Anbiyaa, 21:107)

So we will be dressed with that Reality. What comes after it? Maghfirah. If your clothes are dirty you wash them, you take dirtiness out and you wear it. Prophet (s) dressed the Ummah, he took the dirtiness out and left the purity as if you are newly born. After that is maghfirah. When they throw your sins away in Ramadan, Allah (swt) will give you maghfirah. If he gives maghfirah then will He give adhaab? No, because he planted in your heart the Reality of istighfaar and since Allah put it you, no one can take it out! In every moment your heart is saying “Astaghfirullah.” No way Allah (swT) gives something and then takes it back!

إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ

Indeed, the good acts remove sins. (Surat Hud, 11:114)

“Goodness takes out sin.” When you say “astaghfirullah” it takes your sin and for every hasanaat, Allah gives you ten and for every sin, he gives only one. And when you say “astaghfirullah” you get ten hasanaat.

Allah makes the heart of the sincere person to always make istighfaar, to always say “alhamdulillah”, “shukran lillah” to always say four words Allah loves: subhaanAllah, wa ‘l-hamdulillah, wa laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ‘Llahu Akbar. When you say them they rejuvenate you like Sayyidina Zakariya (r) and his wife became rejuvenated. When Sayyidina Maryam (a) was worshipping in that niche, it became `ibaadah. Make your heart to say “astaghfirullah, subhaanAllah, alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illa-Llah” and Allah will rejuvenate your heart as he did in the case of Zakariya (a) and his wife and He gave them a boy.

His father died, his mother died, Allah gave him a high place and he was called “Yahya”. Allah gave him hayaat. When sitting in dhikrullah, will He not rejuvenate your hearts? ....

The third ten days is for release from Hellfire, so anyone observing Rajab, Sha`baan, he will benefit from the Reality of Tawheed and the Reality of Muhammad (s) and Holy Qu'ran and then the Reality of the month of Ramadan. May Allah guide us and those on the fringe, those who don't love Prophet (s) and do not observe love of Prophet (s). You are lovers of Prophet (s) and Allah (swt)!

We are looking for Allah to be happy with us. May Allah bless us and this house and moving dhikrullah from the center to here so we can have good food! (Joking.) No, you keep it in the center!

One last thing: when you promise you promise, so you can’t break your promise. The signs of a mu’min are three: if he promises he has to keep it, even if the Heavens come on the Earth he keeps his promise, because if he promises and then he breaks his word he is munaafiq, hypocrite, who only keeps his promise when it is according to him. A mu’min will keep his promise either way. Prophet (s) kept his promise. When we promise, we keep our promise.

May Allah bless us all and may Allah make your house a place of piety. Grandshaykh (q) said, “When you are sick, don't go to doctors all the time, go to a generous person and even if they don't answer the door, break in and go eat some food.” So you are generous, so we break the door and eat! (Laughter.)
