A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi, yaa Sultan al-Awliya. Dastoor, yaa Sayyidi wa Mawla. Madad, yaa RijalAllah.
We were speaking a little before about Mawlid and we decided to put the camera on. I asked my brother Shaykh Taher about the Hadith that I heard from Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and Mawlana Shaykh Hisham:
عند ذكر الصالحين تنزل الرحمة
When the pious are mentioned, Allah’s Mercy descends.” (Sufyan ibn `Uyayana in Imam Ahmad’s Zuhd)
Those pious ones are Awliyaullah, Anbiya, Shuhada, Sahaabah, Ahlu 'l-Bayt. That’s why we are here tonight: to ask Allah to cover us with His Mercy by mentioning the pious. If only mentioning Saaliheen opens that Door of Mercy from the treasures of Allah (swt), what about mentioning Rasoolullah (s)? So that’s why we recite poetry written in his praise, describing his birth and life, because when we mention his name mercy descends on us.
Some people object to Mawlid, yet it mentions Rasoolullah's features and character so our children and we can all learn how to behave like him (s). He is awake two-thirds of the night, sometimes all night. Do you do that, O Muslim? Why don’t you follow the Best of Creation? Did he come just to give a book and leave, or did he come to show us how to follow that book?
That's why Allah sent a human being with special powers. Rasoolullah (s) is a human being, but he said, Yoohaa ilayya, “I have a niche, something extra: my heart is open to Heavens and receives Allah's Kalaam, Words, through angelic means.”
Rasoolullah (s) came; otherwise Allah would have just given us a book and said, “Here, follow him.” He came to show us in person how to follow Qur’an Kareem. So when we read about Rasoolullah (s), his holy birth, his virtues, qualities, moral excellence, behavior, actions, it means we can follow that.
It is said that in oodhiya ya’foo, when he is harmed or hurt, he forgives. So when I read that, I learned that when you are hurt physically or verbally, you forgive because Rasoolullah did.
Wa in khoosima yasmutu wa laa yujaawib, when people argued with him, he kept silent and didn't answer back. These qualities are high indications of patience, sabr. O big Alim, Muslim, mu’min talking about Rasoolullah (s), can you restrain yourself like he did? That needs sabr. You cannot. Why? Because his sabr is by Allah.
وَٱصْبِرْ وَمَا صَبْرُكَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِ
W 'asbir wa maa sabruka illa billah
And be patient, [O Muhammad], and your patience is not but through Allah (Surat an-Nahl, 16:127)
Your patience comes from Allah,” which means it is endless.
That is the difference! He is open to Heavens, so whatever he wants Allah gives him; wasbir, be patient, his patience is by Allah. But you cannot restrain yourself, even from your own family you explode in their face. He restrains himself from enemies, but can you?
That’s why we read the Shama`il, Holy Qualities and Features of Rasoolullah (s): to be like him! To be kind, loving, tender, and strong like him. You have to be strong on Baatil, injustice, you cannot let it cover the world, you must stand firm for justice. That’s why Rasoolullah (s) fought against injustice, devils, bad and wicked ones, to correct them.
So alhamdulillah, we start to mention our Beloved Prophet, his birth, features, qualities, the poems written in his praise, and inshaa-Allah we will receive that Rahmah, inshaa-Allah it will descend on all of us and cover our children, elders and deceased, also. We will give part of the rewards (thawab) to their souls inshaa-Allah. We’ll pray for them as well, and also for those asking du`a. I received a few calls today about people who are sick or troubled by family and medical issues, so we will also pray for their shifa and for their affairs to go easy, that for the sake of Rasoolullah (s), inshaa-Allah, Allah will make it all easy for them, especially those in DC and Michigan. Ameen.
